Kwon Says Mike Smith Hasn’t Flinched

November 12th, 2017

Kwon speaks

Yes, those daily early-morning film sessions with Kwon Alexander and defensive coordinator Mike Smith haven’t stopped. It’s been over a year.

There Kwon and Smith have advanced study, but Kwon also has been studying Smith, who has come under a lot of scrutiny with his defense having too many brutal showings through the first half of the season.

Kwon told Joe after today’s victory that he’s been watching Smith for any changes, any sign of weakness.

It’s not there.

“Man, he’s the guy. If he showed anything, any doubt, I’d see it. It ain’t there. I’m always looking to see how Coach is reacting after a loss or a win,” Kwon said. “[Smith] is confident and grinding every day. We have the players. We have the system. We just have to not beat ourselves and everything will take care of itself. It’s not about what other teams are doing or us not having the talent.”

The Bucs locked down on stopping the Jets running game today, with New York averaging just 2.9 yards per carry. And don’t laugh because running back Bilal Powell got the bulk of the carries. He’s been having a heck of the year.

The defense was believing today — and after the game. Maybe, just maybe, they can springboard this in a big way.

Miami, the next opponent, has a bad offense. The Bucs can really build some momentum here in a hurry.

The players showed full confidence in the coaching staff today!!!!! Even when the Jets had 10 days to prepare for this team that the sheep claimed (wrongly) that this team had checked out!!!!!!! It was good to see leaders leading today for the Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Great job Bucs!!!!!!!!!!

    GO Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  3. SOEbuc Says:

Koetter almost cost us another loss. Y won’t he get creative with his play calling. How do u allow the defense to repeatedly bat down Fitzpatrick’s passes. Anyone remember in 05 when teams did the same to 6’5 Chris Simms. Play after play his passes were batted down. The dolphins n Sue will do the same if we don’t make some changes. I was waiting on koetter to have Fitz roll out to make something happen. How about a fake punt once in a while. We still need a spark on offense n special teams. Reedy should have scored on the punt, can u imagine a simple move a player like Antonio Brown or former player devin Hester would have done against the kicker who reedy allowed to tackle him…a good jump would have avoided the tackle. Could u imagine dak Prescott, Aaron Rodgers, or Andrew Luck guoung for the same two point conversion as Fitz…they would have dove in for the points. The Bucs need to bring some type of swag to keep the momentum going…it all begins with good coaching.

Would love to know what Kwon & Ayers were going at it about on the bench Joe.

Defense was much improved but I was still bothered by a few 3rd and long conversions where we sat back in coverage.

Keep up the agression Smith. I saw the difference and it payed off

    @dmatt
Are you kidding with Reddy’s return? Easy from the keyboard to say he should have juked the kicker! If you were there you would have seen no way! He did the best he could…

  11. Roy T. Buford Says:

Again, after seeing Koetter’s comments on DJax, and now Kwon’s comments gushing about his DC, it looks to me like they had a kumbaya meeting/moment this week…

This is how it was last year…and hopefully it’s back.

Today showed a lot. Can they take it on the road? I hope so. We’ll see.

We beat a 0-0 Falcons team. We beat a 1 win Panthers team, we beat a 1 win 49ers team. I don’t know if we have enough weapons to beat a 2 win team.”

This was the first game that ME13 “kneeled” so there were a couple of racist comments, But his first comment about football was……..

Let’s see the Bucs go to Arrowhead and beat down the Chiefs. Then they will get the respect of the league. Beating the Bad News Bears will get you no respect.”

I still contend..Mike Smith needs to be on the sidelines with his troops. Unless he has a medical condition we no thing about, His troops need to see and hear him urging them on. A defensive coordinator prescence sometimes can impact a defensive unit. He can drink coke and eat chips at home. He need to come down out of that press box and be on the sidelines.
