It’s Over

November 5th, 2017

Time to move on.

Joe knows this won’t go over well with the Doug Martin fanboys, as they will react to this post like drug addicts during an intervention.

What does the date Nov. 22, 2015 represent? It was the last time Bucs running back Doug Martin ran for over 100 yards. That’s damned near two calendar years ago, folks.

In what world does a team bank on a guy to be a No. 1 running back who cannot cut it any longer, who has blinders over his eyes, who has no vision, who can’t move the pile, who cannot move the chains?

Not to mention, paying a guy $7 million a year to be unproductive? Yet that is where we are with Martin. He cannot cut it any longer.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, blame the offensive line, a lazy knee jerk reaction. Well, how is it Jacquizz Rodgers running behind the very same offensive, has twice as many 100-yard games in less time than Martin last had his? How is it today Peyton Barber found holes and running room behind the very same offensive line that Doug Martin struggled behind?

If, at this point, one still lays all of Martin’s ills on the offensive line, then that is saying the offensive line is laying down for Martin, which Joe thinks is unadulterated baloney.

Joe told a fellow member of the Bucs’ credentialed beat writers corps this week that he thought Martin was done. The scribe looked at Joe and said he wasn’t ready to go there yet.

Joe is, and today sealed it for Joe.

Doug Martin is done. Turn the page. At least give Rodgers and Barber more carries than Martin.

Oh, and the Bucs are 0-5 this season with Martin as your starting running back.

  1. Cometowin2 Says:

This is on Koetter. He did not even try to win this game. He’s a lame duck at the least. He deserves to be fired now.

Gruden, Gruden, Gruden. Just don’t let him pick the players for God’s sake.

  2. DallasBuc Says:

Oline was great but damn that Martin sucks!
    So delusional

  3. Season Is Over Says:

Waiting on the Mr. Magoo coming in from the sideline thread. He will now be America’s Bone-headed QB, Jameis Winston when they play the replay nationwide all week.

  4. John Says:

Guys, Gruden is not coming back. Can we move on please? Please!

  5. Bucs fan #7423 Says:

    Trade the house for belichick!

  6. AceofAerospace Says:

Told you. Never ever rely on a druggie.

  7. Bradentonbuc Says:

    What a year

  8. Tb601 Says:

Doug is done , Dirk has lost the team and its time to see what we can get for aging players that dont want to be here .

  9. Cometowin2 Says:

Jameis shld workout this off-season with Drew Brees. One of the most accurate QBs of all time. The off-season that Josh Freeman did that was just before his best 2010 season.

  10. Not there yet Says:

Hello they should have turned the page in the off-season or before brining him back after a suspension. It’s called throwing away other people’s money. Licht can’t justify this. He put his faith in Martin, this defensive and offensive line and he lost. No reason to get a new contract bye bye Doug, bye Martin and bye koetter. Ayers gone and Grimes too. Gholston had a serious neck injury, it’s time to rebuild the right way

  11. Waterboy Says:

Might be over for a lot of people after this season. Hopefully they won’t bring Gruden back he was fired for a perfectly good reason. 0 playoff wins after the Superbowl season and a lot of mediocre offenses (Look up the offensive rankings while he was the coach).

  12. Lamarcus Says:

    Dm is done
    Ayers is done
    Baker is done
    Djx is done
    Gmc is done
    Grimes is done
    Esmith is done
    Tandy is done
    Ward is done
    Dsmith is done
    Sweezy is done
    Dotson is done
    Conte is done
    Hawley is done
    Fitz is done

  13. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Koetter’s playcalling killed us today…..and yes the standard, expected default run up the

  14. SteelStudBuc Says:

I think Koetter and Smith are both fired this offseason

  15. dexterOHMAN Says:

its 2014 all over again. clean the house, new QB, and start over. we can trade Jameis and most likely watch him play well for an actual coach while we will pick high in the draft over and over again. u see jacoby brisset today? looked better than jameis has this year

  16. Season Is Over Says:

You know you suck when your leading receiver has 2 catches for 25 yards.

  17. Tom Edrington Says:

Doug Martin is the LEAST of their problems, this team is done, physically and mentally and season is only half over……

  18. Mike Johnson Says:

And now..KC’s hits from the 70’s presents…A tribute to our TB Bucs by Tom Petty……..”FREEFALLING”

  19. Howard Cosell Says:

Lol…you were so right about Doug.
Sorry for ever thinking I knew better.

  20. JimmyJack Says:

Is this the least competitive team Tampa Bay has ever seen?

And that say a lot given the history of this franchise………..This era of Bucsball is one of the worst that I can recall…….I liked it better when Dominick was in charge because at least we all knew the team had huge voids of talent.

    Embarassing

  21. BucsFanInChina Says:

Blow it up. Nothing left to see here.

  22. Cobraboy Says:

    Like Martin is the problem.

    Hilarious.

There isn’t one position on this team that isn’t a mess. Winston included.

  23. Buc15 Says:

We have the worst play calling in the league. Too much talent to be so horrible

  24. Mike Johnson Says:

look at the Bright Side fellow Buc Fans..We still got a shot at the no 3 pick!!

  25. Mike malarkey Says:

Stop being a Winston fanboy Joe

  26. Rob Says:

Koetter has absolutely no idea how to right this titanic. Fire him and his staff tonight

  27. Bkbuc Says:

The sky is falling! The sky is falling!

  28. Bear_4_Ever Says:

Can’t believe how bad this Bucs team is. 2-6 and one of those two wins was against Mike Glennon lead Bears.

Bears have beaten Ravens and Panthers since.

Bears 3-5. Bucs 2 -6. NFL is weird.

Dirk Koetter is not a HC material. And Winston has not looked good at all. Mariota better from that QB class.

  29. DallasBuc Says:

[B!tched one too many times. Goodbye. Permanently. — Joe]

  30. LargoBuc Says:

It looks like Koetter is losing this team and fast. Our guys cant wait to get this year over with. That’s the one thing that a coach will not survive in this league.
If we cant beat the Jets at home next week then we seriously may not win anoth…no I don’t even wanna go there yet.

  31. JimmyJack Says:

Doug Martin represents to me how bad this coach truely is…….It took him over a month to know that Barber was the better runner.

A real coach has a run attack ready to go and gives us pro level football. Dirk don’t know his own team……..got his nose stuck in his precious playbook. I’m starting to think he didn’t even make the call to take Martin out. I think he was told.

  32. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Everyone missed tackles today except for Mike Evans….the only problem was that the play was over and the NO player didn’t have the ball…..other than that…..solid Mike!!!

  33. Howard Cosell Says:

No. The sky really is falling if you work for the Bucs.

  34. bucster Says:

After that crap show, Joe leads off with an article about Doug Martin? LMAO!

  35. JabooBuc Says:

Joe, really? That’s your first take on this abomination? Doug Martin? First, your premise is totally wrong. Not the same exact line as last year. Marpet moved to Center, Sweezy playing and Smith at LG. Actually, it’s a totally different line which Ian Beckles pointed out earlier this week.

I’ll cut you some slack as I bet you’ve put back a few after watching this sh*t

  36. JimmyJack Says:

Nobody on this roster cares about Dirks team…..They know what’s going on. They are playing for film now.

Nobody is going to rally for this coach

  37. Welcome Back Koetter Says:

The entire franchise is in disarray, and the 1st headline is an “I told you so” about Doug? Someone needs therapy.

  38. Rojas Says:

Lol how about a D Smith article..

  39. Season Is Over Says:

Martin can’t help Ali Muppet allows him to be tackled in the backfield.

  40. Tampabaybucfan Says:

We killed drives early today with the classic throw short of the marker and the classic low-percentage downfield 20 yard pass when we needed 5 yards…..

If this is playcalling…..shame on Dirk…..if this is Jameis…..well, I guess he will
    simply have to play better…..

  41. playerunknown Says:

“A badass football team” Evans is the only one that listened to Dirk

  42. Destinjohnny Says:

Been saying it and saying it and saying it.
Our drafts have been pedestrian and the roster vision has been shockingly bad
Ae don’t have the right team make up with our players and for sure the talent isn’t there

  43. Arealbucsfan Says:

Time for a change after the season. Hate to say it but it’s time to clean house. And don’t be surprised if Gruden does actually come back. He loves Tampa. We mite even get Bill Polian as our GM

  44. Joeypoppems Says:

I mean I agree with you on Martin, Joe. This is definitely not the biggest issue tho. The whole team is a dumpster fire right now.

  45. JonBuc Says:

At least Martin got a 7 million dollar severance.

  46. Chris Says:

Joe will not attack those who are colorful and always talkative in front of a microphone.Winston, terrible, D Smith, terrible, Mccoy, terrible, OJ Howard, terrible pick.
Joe has been critical of 23-year-old Jameis. Joe recognizes that 24-year-old, D. Smith is average among NFL left tackles. Joe knows McCoy is among the best D tackles in the league. –Joe

  47. JimmyJack Says:

I defended Doug Martin and I’ll admit I was wrong……I think Joe is entitled to showcasing Martin in his last chance with this team. He has taken a lot of ridicule for his opinion on Doug…….The thing that grips me is that Joe knows more about this team then the coach…….No offense, but it should be the other way around

  48. Matts17 Says:

Any talk of firing Koetter (which I’m totally fine with) must include Licht. He’s as much of the problem as anyone. He’s been a complete disaster.

  49. Chris Says:

This is the same team that quit on Raheem, quit on Schoano, quit on Lovie, quit on Koetter.

  50. lurker Says:

and the bucs are 2-6 with winston as a starter.

  51. Getaclue Says:

It’s not going to get any better, time to send a message to the players and fire the coach mid season this time and Gruden hasn’t been a realistic choice till now till after he buried the hatchet with the glazers and paraded himself around one buc. Time to get some big balls and do what’s right for the fans and the franchise

  52. Kgh4life Says:

Just because you fire a coach doesnt guarantee the next one will be a success. Look at the bucs track record: three yrs Raheem, two Schiano and two with Lovie. Just be carefull what you wish for. I even read that people want to get rid of Jameis.

  53. Season Is Over Says:

Martin is not the problem. He hasn’t forgotten how to run the ball. What are you guys looking at? Lol. This OL is beyond horrible.

  54. unbelievable Says:

Well, that didn’t take you too long Joe!

Martin was the biggest problem today, right?

  55. Chris Says:

Mccoy got blown off the ball all day today, single blocked. He stated on Hard Knocks that it gets harder and harder each season. This one, he has quit.

  56. Buccaneer scotty Says:

Well it’s also time to move on from Winston period !

  57. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Our D couldn’t tackle a grammar school ballerina today….

    Martin wasn’t our problem……

  58. Bobby M. Says:

The entire team is done….You could see it in that pregame speech when their “leader” ate his fingers. People will buy into that nonsense if you’re leading them to victories but he’s not.

  59. SOEbuc Says:

SO MANY SAYING GRUDEN IS NOT COMING BACK AND NEITHER IS KOETTER. WHO’S IT GONNA BE THEN? I’D LOVE TO HEAR SOME NICE NAMES FROM THE JBF CROWD THAT COULD BE HEADING TO TAMPA NEXT YEAR.

  60. Mojiska Says:

So is the koetter, smith, gmc experiment.

  61. passthebuc Says:

    @TBBF
Jameis aka the Molasses Man will never have it. It’s not a knock on the guy he just isn’t up to the challenge.

  62. JimmyJack Says:

You look at every young player that Dirk has coached……..Every one of them……..every freaking one has gotten worse.

This guy has been an awful coach. It shouldn’t take so many blowouts and chokes to prove it.

If an old player gets worse is one thing but not younger players. This offensive guru has a terrible offense and an uncompetitive team.

Honestly I don’t know how he survives this season…..Somebody’s going to get hurt playing for this guy…..oh wait, that already happened.

  63. I'm tired and 87 is right Says:

Joe you thinking this is on Martin is all wrong. Don’t even go there. The issues are in the mirror for this team. Go check yourself fool!

  64. BUC MAN Says:

TIME TO DISMANTLE THE TEAM , STARTING WITH McCoy, ON DOWN , COACH’S HEADS SHOULD BE ROLLING , LICHT NEEDS TO GO ALSO , THIS TEAM SINKS …….TO MANY DIRTY DEALS THAT DIDN’T PAN OUT !!! I’M DONE WATCHING THEM THIS SEASON…. BETTER THINGS TO DO…….

  65. SOEbuc Says:

    Peyton Barber for starting RB

  66. Chris Says:

And 23 year old Carson Wentz is an MVP with less weapons, Alshon Jeffery better than Evans, no, Nelson Agholor better than Desean Jackson, no, he has 4 or 5 legitimate receivers he can’t hit. The difference is ability, Wentz has more than Jameis. He and the defense is the maon reasons this team has quit.

  67. ClodHopper Says:

I really thought we’d have good Doug this year. We don’t. Time to move on

  68. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

Licht needs to be first to go, the OL is garbage and if bucs needed an RB their were friggin 20 rbs available that licht passed on…blow team up send licht out doir first

  69. passthebuc Says:

    @SOEbuc

first, the gm needs to go. then a new director of scouting.
as far as smith and Koetter, Well, it’s not going to be, Welcome back Koetter, and or Smith. If I were the Glazers I would do the best thing for the City. Sell the team and move to London. First I would fire a bunch of coaches and sell a bunch of players

  70. Getaclue Says:

We could of had Jim Schwartz but Koetter wanted his buddy. Play calling and scheme is the problem on both sides . We have enough talent this team has no heart. We should of got blown out worse

  71. I'm tired and 87 is right Says:

Also Joe when I talk about the mirror I challenge you. I sometimes question why you look for Martin to fail. Why is this your second post about? Way bigger issues then this but it’s almost like you need to prove a point that you were right. Kinda like everyone else on this team in which is why we still fail. I love you Joe but sometimes I wonder. Why is it that we we put ourselves first before the bigger picture? I will die with this team.

  72. BucFan4Life Says:

Goodbye Martin. Overpaid and underperforming will get you a ticket out.

He’ll probably end up with the Patriots and hang 21 points on us in the next meeting.

  73. SOEbuc Says:

Every year since he has been here coaches and people continue to try to say D. Smith is improving. These repeating Jameis injurers that this genius team has kept JW on the field are literally THE EXACT same plays of the edge rusher getting around D. Smith and Jameis ending up on that bad shoulder. DONAVAN SMITH IS GARBAGE!

  74. darin Says:

I was never on board before joe, but i am now. Time to move on from dougie. I was still calling for bucs to take kamara in rnd 2 in the draft, hoping him n doug would make a great combo. Instead we got a backup safety. N today we saw kamara up close. This whole season is beyond words. We have a hc who quit and now a team that followed his lead. N yes sit jameis for the rest of the year, based on his play. That pregame act was disgusting too. Fire them today glazers!!!!

  75. Carolla Says:

Can’t wait to hear all the Doug Martin talk on the Ira podcast this week. Once he’s gone, the Bucs are sure to make the playoffs!

  76. SOEbuc Says:

    @passthebuc

Selling the team could be a very large possibility. $250,000 stadium TV renovation and brand new indoor practice facility with a large amount cap money that is very likely to increase by trading and dropping a lot of these garbage old big money players next offseason.

  77. Dano74 Says:

Good Lord the whole team STINKS! It is a CRIME that Winston cannot throw deep to DJax! I’m a Winston fan saying this! I don’t care what you say Joe, this Oline does NOT run block well and hasn’t All season long. The missed tackles, the play calling, the penalties! I could go on and on and on!

  78. bigblock690 Says:

Give me Josh McDaniels right now this offense is not creative to many long developing plays not enough quick passing plays to settle down your QB and offense or go to Michigan and give Jim Harbaugh the keys to the castle..

  79. SOEbuc Says:

    @passthebuc

And a 2021 SB. Glazer’s could get some dough fa sho.

  80. Defense Rules Says:

As several others have already said Joe, Martin is the least of our problems. Doesn’t matter who’s back there at RB, they’re not going anywhere with an OLine blocking as poorly as this one is. Impossible to tell just watching on TV, but I saw a number of missed blocks that could’ve been by design or just plain woeful blocking. Too many Bucs today just looked like they were going through the motions just to collect a paycheck. Guys weren’t blocking worth a hoot, others couldn’t get off blocks, more abysmal tackling … it was just sad to watch. Jameis now looks like a puppy that was beaten up by the cat.

I’m afraid Dirk Koetter either has or is about to lose this team. Any more displays like last week & today and he’ll be lucky to finish the season. Got a hunch that Jason Licht isn’t feeling much more secure at this point. Nor should he.

  81. Sauerpickle Says:

Martin apologists are soproud tgey can’t even admit they’re wrong. Digging any hole they can to prove themselves right. Can’t even see with their own blinders on. Bout as blind as Martin.

  82. Pelbuc Says:

Deciding to keep Martin after he screwed the team last year is just one of many examples as to why GM Licht is horrible and needs to be fired ASAP. From picking the wrong QB to picks like Aguayo, blow it all up again, draft a QB ( like Cheifs did) and draft all defense. Trade GMC, Martin, Baker, Ward, Gholston, and DJax.

  83. JJ Says:

DR- he lost the team, he lost them when he went to the press and called out his players including JW. And then his idiot buddy M Smith did the exact same thing including David and McCoy and Baker and Ward. Koetter and Smith are like a couple of grifters, moving from team to team and fleecing the owners. I like Licht but he has to go. We needed a young RB, DE, DT, he chose a TE, one position that we had solid players at. 18 other teams had the balls to pass on this TE. If he is a true 1st then throw him the GD ball. Get rid of all of them, do it until you get it right.

  84. Wesley Says:

Your flat out blind if you can’t see there is nowhere to run the ball. Whatever Doug did to you let it go man.

  85. Wesley Says:

If Doug was on another team, he’d be killing it.

  86. The Anomaly Says:

    Waste of 8 mill.

DUD martin. He will not be here next year.

    Bucs are a mess.

  87. Njbucs Says:

First off we don’t need a qb. Gmc is one of the best dt in the game we can blame players who does what his coaches ask. its the scheme and lack of players at key spots like lt and rt on offense or every d end plus small slow corners. And yea take injury prone And fumble prone Mariota over jw smh you guys arent fans

  88. Tony from Los Angeles Says:

I’ll agree on Martin if you’ll finally agree on D. Smith.

  89. Matt B Says:

I had to listen to this one on the radio so didn’t see it with my own eyes but Barber only had 34 yards on 11 carries. Again, no holes to run through it seems. Lazy knee-jerk reaction, right. Clearly no back can run behind this line. I’ve watched every play of every other game this season and that’s been the pattern. Doug played well last week, took more than o-line gave him, and you lazily looked at his 3.9 yards per carry and dismissed his performance. Yet, in this post you say Barber, and his 3.1 yards per carry found holes today and running room.

  90. Matt B Says:

How about post some video of Martin’s runs and show us the holes he didn’t see? Show us the mistakes he’s making, please. Educate me.

  91. lambchop Says:

    @Matt B

Totally agree with you bro. Martin has had more explosive positive long yardage runs in his limited time back, with us passing more than we should be in the last 4 games due to being pitifully behind early in games, than anyone else on this team. Quiz is a bowling ball that just crashes straight and falls without any vision (he had one run that I actually thought oh snap he shifted into the right gap). Sims is only good at catching, he also has limited skills as a runner. Martin, I’m not saying he is the ceiling at RB that we should hope to have on this team, has definitely done as much as expected given his limited snaps and limited opportunities with being down early in games and a haphazard run share among the other RBs. Give him the load and let’s see how he does for 1 stinkin game. I’m ok with drafting a RB next year or getting one in FA, but we got bigger problems right now.

  92. Jon Sklaroff Says:

Didn’t the wins this year correspond with Quizz as Starting RB? Didn’t his starts last year yield good Bucs offense? So why the benching? just giving him 2-4 touches a game ain’t going to get the guy in a rhythm. Give him the rock. Plus, he’s a GREAT 3rd down back, and has been his whole career. Even with same coach in Atlanta. Very strange dealings and decisions from Coach.
