America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, doesn’t want to hear about statistics.
The only number he gives a damn about is the one next to the win column. And with the Bucs struggling this season and much closer to a top-five pick in next April’s draft then they are a wild card berth, Jameis admitted he’s scrambling for a way to get things turned around, and he says the fortunes of the Bucs begin with him.
Talking yesterday at his weekly presser, Jameis sounded as if the entire responsibility rests on his wounded wing.
“Stats don’t really matter. Wins matter, especially at this position,” Jameis said. “I compete against everybody. … The ultimate thing that defines a quarterback is that win column, so it doesn’t matter how good someone’s looking or numbers – you’ve got to win and that’s what I’m not doing right now. We’ve got to win. That’s in my blood. I’ve got to find a way to do it.
“Sitting at 2-5 with the statistics that we have as an offense, we [couldn’t] even imagine that we would be sitting [in] this position. But if we were sitting at 5-2 and we had worse stats, it really wouldn’t be a conversation.”
Joe understands fans think the players have mailed it in, especially after the Shat Show last Sunday. Joe’s agrees some players are just out there for the checks. But there is no question one player is likely losing sleep he’s so upset by the mounting losses.
That would be Jameis.

He has only himself to blame. 3 bonehead turnovers and scoring only 3 points in an NFL game is a joke. Start Fitz and we at least have a chance. Look at what he did in Arizona with no 1st team reps all year. Preacher boy needs to take a seat in the pew with his clipboard and learn how to play the game of NFL QB

I would love to see Jameis use the pump fake. He doesn’t look off defenders and just goes directly to the first read at times on big plays (3rd down especially) makes it easy for the defense to pick him off.

If this team wants to be considered a legit playoff caliber team, they have to start beating playoff caliber opponents.
I put this season on Licht….he didn’t take care of the kicking position….it cost us early in the year. We moved lineman around…there’s no chemistry whatsoever which hinders Winston further from getting his motor going. He rolled the dice on TWO DEs coming off surgeries as starters…..neither are playing. Lastly the fascination with collecting safeties….what is that even about? The unit was playing decent in the 2nd half of last season, now its blown assignments and missed tackles every week while we try to appease our veteran free agent signing and recent draft pick….and the two existing safeties. #DeathByAThousandCuts

I know the backing of Jameis is vital to the website but you gotta take the blindfold off…He’s not progressing like he should…The stupid fumbles and locking onto one receiver are the things that bad QBs do…Patience is growing thin…Other young QBs with less talent around them are doing better…He’s not Americas QB by a longshot…More like Vinny Testaverde right now, ugh….

2 out of 3 turnovers were directly caused by pressure, on both he was being hit.
He ain’t got time to pump fake, he hardly has time to drop back before someone is in his face.
Last night you saw Mccown throwing under a clean pocket. Jameis don’t get clean pockets he gets defenders in his face.

I am a Bucs fan for life and only speak the truth. I have bucs tags on my cars, a buccaneers pimped out golf kart and nearly a 100K bucs man cave.
My comments are legit. JW is not leader material. He cannot lead a group of full grown men. Either you have “it” or you do not. You have to have it when you are in the huddle looking into your teammates eyes. His teammates are not fighting for him because they do not believe in him. The head coach cannot coach a player to have the fire in your belly to help the man next to you. You have to have a QB that can inspire this. Jameis does not. It does not help when he states that the team does not have an identity. Keeping it real yall

There are 53 players on the roster plus PS players. There are what…a dozen or so coaches. There is a GM…his assistants…scouting staff…bottom line…well over 100 individuals have involvement and fingerprints on this team.
But hey let’s do the logical thing! Let’s look for one or two scapegoats out of that 100 person mix and dump it all on them. Neat, clean simple and requires no nuance or understanding of the game.
So who do I SINGLE out for all the shame. I say it’s the Bucs cheerleaders. They just don’t whip our guys into a big enough frenzy. Yeah that’s the ticket. Better babes on the sideline and our team improves instantly. Makes about as much sense as much of the stuff I’ve been reading here.

Wewantgruden- interesting that his entire team considers him a great leader with “it” in spades. Also, he won a national championship in college as a freshman (red shirt) and took his team to the playoffs the following year. Literally every coach that comes into contact with him talks about his leadership.

I would love to be at the game honestly, was actually in New Orleans last weekend. Absolutely love that city.
Putting all this blame on Winston is misguided. While he has not played good enough, there have been failings on both sides of the team and up through the coaching staff and organization.
You guys that keep bringing up Wentz, Dak, Watson, etc., need to realize those teams have strong running games (cuz their o lines can actually run block!) and even more importantly, they have good defenses.
