Grimes, Humphries Sidelined, Jameis Winston Throws Freely

Good news and bad news and other news on the Buccaneers’ injury report today.

First, America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, practiced and threw on a Wednesday for the first time in a few weeks. Obviously, team doctors believe Jameis’ sprained shoulder and bruised shoulder muscle are making some level of progress.

Officially, Jameis was “limited” in practice.

Brent Grimes (shoulder) and Adam Humphries (rib) did not practice. Grimes missed Sunday’s game against Carolina with the same injury. Humphries was injured against the Panthers. Joe saw Humphries’ ribs iced up in the locker room after the game.

Good news is cornerback Robert McClain and Josh Robinson were back healthy from the NFL’s concussion protocol.

Kendell Beckwith (knee) and Chris Baker (ankle) were limited in practice.

  1. LakeLand Says:

Brent Grimes isn’t motivated to play for these Losers!

  2. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Brent Grimes doesn’t need motivation….I’m quite sure he wants to play.

Silver lining on injuries is that other players get some snaps…..maybe Godwin will be a benefactor with Humphries.

Off subject but what’s up with Kelvin Benjamin being traded?……a 3rd & a 7th…..with Carolina’s record and Olsen out one would think that wouldn’t happen…..maybe he was unhappy at Carolina or they were unhappy with him…..we’ve already played Buffalo so we don’t have to face him in Charlotte.

  3. PRBucFan Says:

if Jameis indeed is going to play on Sunday I better not hear a damn word about his shoulder causing him to struggle anymore.

They need to rest him for however long necessary if it’s going to be a detriment to his production.

  4. GhostofSchiano Says:

One thing I do not quite understand here. This team has no pass rush, our DT’s are double teamed and our DE’s are handled in one on one matchups week in and week out. You currently have Jared Odrick and Mario Williams unsigned and looking for work. You mean to tell me that either one or both could not come in here and generate some much needed pressure on the quarterback? I know there is a reason they are unsigned but you would think being a professional athlete once you find yourself out of work you put forth the effort to fix that deficiency or get the medical treatment to resume play at a higher level. Then you tryout / workout for teams in hopes of landing a job. We need a pass rush, we really need some opposing QB pressure.

  5. Tom Edrington Says:

Fact is Jameis is very vulnerable with that shoulder and the other teams know that……

  6. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    PR

I agree….if Jameis is hurt…he needs to sit…..we can lose with someone else perfectly well….

As far as these older players, I always thought that until we can prove we have a pass rush, we should have been signing players like Freeny, Abraham, Peppers & Williams……we certainly have the money.

  7. LakeLand Says:

Carolina has a Interim GM. They fired Dave Gettleman before the season started. The new GM made that L&L move.

    Kobe the Realist

Kobe is reading alot of gloom and doom and the sheep jumping off the bandwagon

Who did we just play against?

The best defense in the NFL. Carolina Panthers

Team that allowed 4 out 7 completions vs chicago bears. And then unfortunately vs us, the top 3 defensive player and smartest def player luke K with a elite saftey coleman completed their roster and shut us down

Watch what the pantthers defense does to the atlanta falcons. The panthers defense, which was the reason they went all the way to the superbowl, is reminding me of that same dominant defense.

“We suck, but dont suck that bad”

    Kobe Faker

*Put OJ on the slot and Kobe Faker will forgive Koetter the Klown for renegeing on our handshake promise of 6 targets for OJ per game

  9. Waterboy Says:

    I agree with PRBucsFan.

  10. LakeLand Says:

Kobe.. what will the Saints do to the Bucs defense?

  11. LakeLand Says:

Tampa Bay ranks in the bottom five in seven defensive categories:

    Total Yards Per Game 29
    Yards Per Play 29
Passing Net Yards Per Game 30
Passing Net Yards Per Play 30
    Sacks Per Pass Play 32
    First Downs Per Game 29
    Thirs Down Efficiency 32

  12. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Oh good. Chris Baker is going to be alright.

    I was scared for a minute…

  13. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

If Grimes is not healthy for the game, they may as well sit Jameis…because we’ll lose anyway.

  14. Kobe Faker Says:

Our defense is going to get smoked!

Milii vanilli Vh3 always plays decent vs a big body wr. Vh3 and ryan griffin will get smoked by the speedy wrs of the saints. Panthers offense sucks

If koetter does his run run deep playcalling again, we will get blown out…

Only way to win is get OJ involved in the short passing game and win in a shootout

  15. Seminole Bill Says:

Sit Jameis and let him heal, completely. We’re not playing for a playoff spot, that’s gone. Now we are playing for next year’s draft.

  16. Lord Cornelius Says:

lol Kobe thank you for being entertaining.

I’m just happy that it sounds like Winston is OK.

My wife & I’s only FSU game we ever have been to was a baseball game when he was pitching; and only because we were in town for a show that night for my band. I told her that guy was supposed to be really good; and then history played out.

We’re going to New Orleans for our 2 year anniversary this weekend and bought tix a while ago. I really thought with how f*cking cursed this season has been; we wouldn’t even get to see Jaboo on the field. That would be the very sh1tty cherry on top of a very sh1tty football year. But it sounds like we’ll actually get to see him play; which would be great because we’re going with a couple of my best friends from FSU as well

  17. Bucballbaby84 Says:

If our defense doesn’t get a hell of a lot better on thirds downs our season is doomed no matter what. Plain and simple. One of the worst third down defenses in the league if not the worst.

  18. Defense Rules Says:

Bonzai, I really hope Koetter decides to sit Jameis. He’s looked terrible in these last 4 losses and something’s wrong. He doesn’t have the same zip on the ball that I’ve seen in the past, and he’s come close to getting several of his receivers decapitated with some of these lame duck, off-target throws.

I have very little confidence that we’ll beat the Saints in their stadium, but stranger things have happened I guess. Saints defense has improved considerably since last season it looks like. Saints offense is on-track to pile up well over 6,000 yds on the season. They’ve got excellent balance, running it 28 times a game & passing it a tad over 35 times a game. If their run game is working, I’m sure they’ll just run & run & run some more. If that falters, hello Drew Brees. There’s only 1 significant stat where both teams are roughly the same (38%) this season: 3rd down conversion rate. Not much to hang your hat on, but hope is hope.

  19. Joeypoppems Says:

If Jameis reinjures his shoulder again im gonna lose my mind.

  20. Joeypoppems Says:

    @Defense Rules

The 2 offenses might be similar in 3rd down success but the Bucs defense sways it way into the Saints favor

  21. Kobe Faker Says:

    LC, enjoy the tennis match

    Saints win 42-28

    “Your wife have a sister?”

    Kobe Faker

  22. LakeLand Says:

The Saints are 12th in scoring defense. They are 6th in scoring offense. The Bucs has their work cut out for them.

  23. AlteredEgo Says:

    Yeah….”throwing freely”…is part of the problem….? Vern

  24. JimmyJack Says:

Does it even matter that Hump is injured? We had him in the perfect role last year. Now this year he has been a basic nonfactor……I wasn’t surprised that he was the one who fumbled the game away at Buffalo.

But what does that matter. Dirk has his precious Djax. Who needs a possession reciever when you have 4.3 speed………I swear, this guy pieces together offenses the same way I build my fantasy points. only difference is that it works in fantasyland while it’s leading an up an coming 9-7 team to a 2-5 record and a laughing stock.

This “weapons for winston” was a cute fan cry from silly fans(no doubt the same fans who think a top 5 draft pick is worth a salt) but I’d expect my coach and GM to have more a a clue how to run a football team.

  25. Not there yet Says:

I like Adam Humphries but I hope you don’t play this week because I’m tired of you getting more looks than our first overall pick and our stud receivers

  26. Defense Rules Says:

Joeypoppems, isn’t it nice that we help so many other teams pad their stats? Our offense has gone against Chicago (#14 defense), Vikings (#4), Giants (#17), Pats (#18), Cards (#30), Bills (#3), and Panthers (#5). And still our offense is rated #18 in points scored and oh ya #4 in yardage (Joe’s so proud of that stat I just had to include it, even though it’s pretty meaningless). We’ve played some tough defenses … #3, #4, #5 plus #14, #17, #18 and oh ya #30. Unfortunately our #24 defense is far too erratic, thus far at least, to keep pace with the better teams.

  27. RandomBucFan Says:

It’s interesting to hear Koetter second guess himself on his PC about the very issue I said before his PC–an issue that required no second guessing: JW should’ve sat before the start of the 4th quarter. Koetter is proving to be a very mediocre coach, good with some decisions, bad at many others

  28. Wewantgruden Says:

Jameis back to practice on Wednesday is BAD NEWS. HE PLAYS AND WE LOSE IN A BIG WAY.

  29. yrbndr Says:

There is no way the Buc’s braintrust is going to put JW ‘s shoulder at further risk. He obviously is hurt but they feel he is best option and ok to go forward. No whining about that as an excuse. Execute dang it!

  30. Lamarcus Says:

Jw is good. So we have a chance? This is good news. Last thing I want to see is Sunday being ruined while Bucs are playing with FITZPATRICK Jw is the franchise and should play

  31. Buc1987 Says:

Good lord…who are all you new posters running your mouth?. wewantgruden and such. Get a real name then we’ll talk. No really…. AlteredEgo?…you’re an a-clown who bashed Winston from the start. From the the day he was drafted…

This team needs UMMMMPH. There’s only TWO players on the entire team that I see that has UMMMMPH. That care too.

    TWO. Jameis, and Kwon.

To be a FAN… an unabashed fan of THIS team it takes HEART and nerves of STEEL. The nerves…. I see in only a few posters. TBBF, PRBucfan, BucBonzai, me of course…sorry if I missed a few. I grew up a RED SOX fan pre-big world series win and all. Became a Buc fan in 87. Stick by your team and all. Stick by the BUCS! Stick by the SOX! It is what it is. Eventually good thigs will come. People move around in this great country, I came from Mass and became a Bucs fan fro no good reason. I will always LOVE the Bucs. I don’t know why…especially as I get older. I just do. I don’t HAVE to see another SB win, but it’d sure be nice. I’m only 47. I got that ONE though…. sure did. Cousin even played in it. IT was DAYUM special. Never taken away from ME and the rest of you that suffered.

I’ve always said it’s tough being a Bucs fan. Well I don’t expect that to change anytime soon. Even if they…. someday make the playoffs. I hate being complacent, but it is what it is. When they win they win. I’m happy. Try being a Lions fan….living in that shyte city and never seeing a SB berth.

Okay I’m done rambling on. B*tch and moan all you want, the true blue ones will always be there. Go Bucs and but damn DO SOMETHING!

  32. Buc1987 Says:

    typos sucked sorry but…

    g’nite.

  33. FortMyersDave Says:

Buc1987: yeah I think those 2 are the one’s with heart as well and probably the closest thing the Bucs have to any form of leadership on this club….. Grimes is probably going to be inactive, not surprising though if the team was 5-2 instead of 2-5 he’d probably tough it out and play. I am not concerned about Humphries, still a bit angered over his fumble in the Bill game that set up the game losing FG. Bucs probably still would have lost that game, especially if it went to OT and the Bucs lost the coin flip but…… Anyhow as many posters have stated Licht and Koetter have numerous offensive weapons that supposedly can get results, its supposed to be the one area with depth so Koetter just needs to get his crayon out and develop a gameplan that involves Godwin, both tight ends, Sims, Barber,Dj etc and give the Saints some wrinkle that might catch them off guard. Tell JW to quit throwing to Brate alone in certain 3rd and long situations which burned the Bucs in the Carolina game, in other words Koetter needs to adapt and adjust, isn’t that what he WAS thought to be good at???????

Great post Buc1987, the board should be for Buc fans: new fans of the franchise who have jumped on the Pirate Ship recently as well as those who have been around since the days of McKay, the creamsicle unis and Hugh Culverhouse strolling around in that obnoxious orange blazer that even Don Cherry or Craig Sager would not touch. Instead I see a ton of posts from trolls who have never said one positive thing about the franchise, for example quite a few of these posters seemed angry that the Bucs beat the Giants; they are happier when the Bucs lose like they are surrogates of certain local media outlets….

  34. Bucsfanman Says:

Preach it ’87! FortMyers, sometimes it seems as though posters gleefully await a loss. I’m as frustrated as the next guy, but I’m not throwing away my allegiance.
    Go Bucs!

  35. 813bucboi Says:

    @Lakeland
    @PR

    I agree…..

I think grimes and others have lost faith in this staff and this season…

and like you said @PR, no more excuses….I don’t want to hear about Winston being injuried….it being windy…it being too loud….hard knocks…still need time to gel….lack of communication because of kwon….none of that….GO BUCS!!!!
