Fitzpatrick Makes A Special Call

November 25th, 2017

Undefeated as a starting quarterback this year, Ryan Fitzpatrick hasn’t forgotten his humble beginnings in the NFL 12 years ago.

Joe saw this cool story at NewYorkUpstate.com and thought it was worth sharing.

As NFL fans know, rookie Nathan Peterman started at quarterback for Buffalo last weekend because Tyrod Taylor got benched. It was an epic fail. Peterman threw five first-half interceptions.

And then he heard from Fitzpatrick.

“He told me about his rookie year and stuff,” Peterman said. “That was helpful to see.”

Fitzpatrick started three games as a rookie for the St. Louis Rams. In one of those games, he threw zero touchdowns and five interceptions. But Fitzpatrick wouldn’t even have to go back that far to offer advice to Peterman. He had a six-interception game for the Jets in 2016 after having played in over 100 games.

How nice was that of Fitzpatrick, who has 12 years on Peterman a busy schedule as the Bucs’ temporary starter.

Sure, being a good guy doesn’t win football games, but it still counts for something.

We are extremely fortunate to have FitzMagic as our backup QB

    #PlayoffsWithFitzMagic? 🤔

“Temporary starter”? We’ll see. Dudes been pretty damn good. Free…uh…hum…Winston has been super quiet and battling a cough…..cough interesting shoulder injury with a little bit of off field drama and a bestie who I think might be trying to save his own arse by coming into the picture. I’m absolutely behind this guy till’ all comes to surface. And I’m very happy he’s reaching out to younger guys. Go bucs!

More I think? More I wonder! Is Darby saving his own butt? Or is Darby really trying to help? Either way, this all stinks. In the meantime, we have a qb who hasn’t been great over his tenure, but has been exactly the qb for the job here. I embrace Fitz! And for number 3? Make it right or just go! GO bucs!

    Fitz is driving the car.
Driving better than #3 was doing.

Fitz is spreding the ball around, hitting Godwin and Howard and getting them in the game.
hes hitting Desean, and letting him run.

And hes not tossing the ball up for grabs, when pressured.

I’m not saying Fitz is more talented.
    But hes definitely playing better.

Kinda sucks being on the west coast and knowing there won’t be any response to any comments in the morning. All good. I’ll watch my bucs in the morning.

Good for Fitz. –I liked what Beckles said on his podcast, that Jameis will be a better player when he comes back (whenever that might be). He now he gets to watch things from a new perspective. Beckles said he came back a better player after having been out for some games. If there’s a silver lining to Jameis’ situation, that might be it. But if the worst case scenario develops with the accusation, no silver lining. Just head to the storm shelter because it’s all going to blow.

Fitz has a better head on his shoulders. He’s keeping the Bucs calm. You are watching aren’t you Jameis?

I’m with you…I hope #3 is paying attention.

I do not compare Fitz’s skill set with #3 who is clearly better equipped to be a franchise QB…at least from the neck down.

But if Fitz somehow manages a good game today and the Bucs beat Atlanta as much as I admire and respect #3 it just goes against my nature to suddenly bench a guy who stopped a five game losing streak with a three game win streak.

It just isn’t fair. Might be different if #3 was Peyton Manning or Aaron Rodgers but he’s far from it at this point!!! While I concede his obvious talent advantage over Fitz…again from the neck down…he’s got a lot of growing up to do before he becomes the kind of elite QB that gets to start regardless of recent history.

If Fitz wins today I hope they let him continue to play. If he wins and they start #3 next week and #3 loses the spit will hit the fan. Most fans know #3 is the better QB but a significant % are not yet sold on #3 long term and if he comes in and ends a 3 game win streak including a victory over Atlanta in Atlanta…his detractors will become beyond ugly.

Of course I do not think this is going to be a problem as I don’t see how we’ll even slow Matty Ice without any pass rush.

Fitz thus far has been probably Licht and Koetters best player move!!
