Can’t Buy QB Pressure

November 25th, 2017

“Guys, the quarterback hasn’t been to Madagascar. He doesn’t have The Plague.”

The Bucs can’t rush the passer with their front line (outside of an accident like against the Jets) and they can’t get pressure on the quarterback with a blitz.

We all know about the lack of sacks and pressure from the front line. But blitzing? BSPN has it tracked.

“BSPN NFL Matchup,” which heavily leans on data from the NFL Films’ football junkies, noted the Bucs are one of the worst teams to get pressure on a quarterback from the blitz. After their 10th game of the season, the Bucs are fifth-worst in the NFL. Only 30 percent of the time can a Bucs blitzer breathe on an opposing QB.

Joe has to guess defensive coordinator Mike Smith is just about at wit’s end. And here comes Matty Ice.

Joe isn’t sure if Smith is a Johnny Walker-kinda guy or a Maker’s Mark sort of fellow.

I am still trying to figure out how he still is our DC. Surely DK can see it

  2. Tampabaybucfanr Says:

We lost both of our speed defensive ends…..the subs for them are ineffective….LVD & Kwon have speed….perhaps we are down to CB & Safety blitzes as the only answer…..
Receivers are wide open anyway and if they are going to play 10 yards off….may as well bring them up to the line and instead of jamming the receiver….blitz.

    ‘And here comes Matty Ice.’

    🙁

In the off season all the talk about the eventual return of Jack Smith tempted us but I never bought into his health. I thought he would have been a nice addition if he returned to past playing form but I didn’t count on it.

But the injury to Noah did catch me off guard. Given the off season attention and rest I thought his shoulder would heal. Now I’m not sure it’ll ever be the same and won’t always present a limitation.

And that has cost the Bucs if Noah doesn’t play to his potential. He flashed some genuine talent and was getting rave reviews from former Bucs and other players in the know.

If we drafted a true stud DE…one capable of coming in immediately and starting…and playing well!!!! And IF…Noah’s shoulder healed…and GMC stays healthy in the middle….our pass rush goes from anemic to potentially special in just ONE off season.

  5. Buc believer Says:

OH but Gerald Mcjoke is such a BEAST!!!

  6. Blake_Bucsfan Says:

Oh but we definitely could have bought an edge rusher. Like Calais Campbell.

  7. Destinjohnny Says:

How can you blame the coach when we don’t have anyone who can rush the qb?
And that’s with a really good dt giving the rest of the line shade.

Funny if we had 2 other pass rushers who could get 14 sacks a year mike smith would then be a great coordinator right?

  8. tmaxcon Says:

It’s simple why there is no pass rush the Smiling Doll playing POS quitter does not make those around him better. You guys keep nuthugging the smile and I’ll keep hoping the bucs find a driven winner in the offseason to man up.

So Joe when your boy leads another blowout against Atlanta on Sunday are you going to be pimping for immediate entry into the ring of honor or petition for a waiver so that your girl can be the first active player in the hall of fame that has NEVER WON A SINGLE MEANINGFUL GAME in his PATHETIC CAREER IN THE BASEMENT!!! Even Joe has been infected by cancer93. The way you pounded your chests over a good game against a lousy miami team with their 4 or 5th quarterback. you would of thought that they beat a winner or playoff contender. he finally did his job against another basement dweller and you guys get all worked up. beating miami on their 5th qb is kind of like the Yankees beating a clearwater little league team and celebrating like they won the pennant. I am sure Joe is also that guy that thinks baseball teams should hang up wild card pennants too. Love the entertainment you guys provide but please seek help you have been around cancer93 too much and have lowered your expectations and standards to a substandard level.

  9. Kgh4life Says:

We already know the Bucs can’t rush the passer, just dont have the talent to do it, simple as that Joe.

  10. orlbucfan Says:

Get lost, tmax. An ant has more brains than you!

  11. tmaxcon Says:

    granny

maybe you had too much turkey yesterday. all your pathetic doll playing career loser does is quit and disappear when it matters most. he has accomplished absolutely NOTHING meaningful or of substance in his entire failed buc career. Captain Blowout will lead the bucs defense to another embarrassing performance on Sunday…. The excuses made for these soft losers have become far more entertaining than the actual games.

  12. Bob in Valrico Says:

McCoy has 25 solo tackles ,10 tackles for a loss and 5 sacks. You would have to be one the three blind mice to think that was a problem.

  13. tmaxcon Says:

    Bob in Valrico

there is a lot more to be a team captain and highest paid player than meaningless numbers you quoted. how do those pedestrian stats overcome the blowouts 93 has captained or coming out flat half the games. not to mention the loafing. I get it those don’t count because it does not fit the agenda of the apologists and excuse makers. the dude is a joke

  14. tmaxcon Says:

Relaists buddy Adrian slowburn has more sacks in one game than captain blowout has all season.

  15. Lamarcus Says:

    Man……gmc is garbage

That whole dline is a reflection of him.

  16. Mike Johnson Says:

Every game we have won, there has been Defensive line pressure, a couple of sacks, and a few hurries. DEFENSE guys. This franchise got away from it chasing illusions of offensive highlights. When all we needed was men..who played hard, dirty and nasty in the trenches..who wanted to rip a QB’s A.s off his body. You Buc fans see where this beautiful Offense has gotten us huh? Go back to stockpiling a great Defense. Do this, and everything else will fall into place. It did for our Superbowl team.

Madagascar is experiencing a severe drought and FAMINE right now.

People are starving. Children are dying from malnutrition.

Please American people. Help with agriculture and education.

Madagascar is truly suffering. Its not funny.

    Please care.

  18. Capt.Tim Says:

I feel so bad for Tmaxipad, db(IQ)55,and lamuncher.
To love someone so much. And to have them reject your advances.
McCoy is never gonna like you guys”that way”. Instead of feeling bitter and rejected- the 3 of you should just move on.
This ongoing pouting is really annoying the rest of us.
Try Kaepernick- I bet he would appreciate being your love interest!

I believe the Bucs should Sponsor a “ Understanding Football” clinic for guys like these 3.
They have no idea the difference between a DT and a DE.

Not all of us played football. Some posters, like these guys, may have been cheerleaders, in the glee club, or the Pep squad!
The may have been able to go to many games- because they had to stay home and do their hair and nails

If they understood the game better, it might help them overcome their man crush on McCoy.
At last, they would be able to but aside their bitterness- and just enjoy the game

  19. Mike Johnson Says:

Teacherman..I got news for you. People are dying everyday, everywhere, everplace, and everysecond. Its called the circle of Life. When its your time to dance with the reaper, you shall not escape. People are starving all over the world. And being killed as I write this now. So..Knock it off. This ain’t the forum my man!

  20. tmaxcon Says:

    Capt.Tim

you keep supporting losers and I’ll keep hoping for a winner. I will never lower my standards to the level the gmc nuthuggers have to make excuses for the POS quitter.

  21. Capt.Tim Says:

Ahh, the ole”a woman Scorned” chestnut!
    Get over it it Tmaxipad!

He’s not interested in you. That doesnt make every intelligent person, who knows football, Wrong.

Ill trust my Eyes, Plus every player/Coach in Pro football, over the opinion of a few man crushing bitter trolls.

We know your bedroom in yer moms basement is covered in McCoy posters and candles.
When Labutmuncher, db(IQ55)55, and you get off work at Burger King- you gather down in your room. Staring at McCoy Posters, and complaining that ge refused all your love letters.
I guess you figure, that if you keep trolling our best player, you might get some fool to start listening to you.
    Meybe.
But all of us that actually know football, will be fooled by your nonsense.

Weve seen love struck trolls on this site before.

The Rookies are doing great. Ryan Smith is easily our #2 CB now. Hes big and fast. Auclair has been on the field alot lately- and will start catching passes soon.

But due to their refusal/inability to get a DE- both Koetter and Licht should both be fired immediately, at seasons end. Spence is way too small for a DE.
If they thought Jac Smith would stay healthy, then their judgement sucks.

    There s just no excuse.

  22. Capt.Tim Says:

    * will Not be fooled by your nonsense

  23. tmaxcon Says:

    teacherman

they have plenty of natural resources to fix their own problems. it’s time for the US to stop supporting all the freeloaders throughout the world. thanks to obama and his policies we have enough free loaders in our own country that are entitled to help. I never thought I’d see the day in my life when Freeloading and being a victim were more respected than hard work and integrity.

  24. Bob in Valrico Says:

Anybody that truly knows anything about football would know that the above quoted stats describe a A DT that has improved his run game defense along with
the other aspects of his game. Look it up, McCoy leads the NFL in two of these important measures of an NFL DT. McCoy is in no way responsible for all the woes
    of this team.

  25. tmaxcon Says:

    capt tim

what is nonsense is all the flat performances and losses led by captain blowout cancer93… you can’t rewrite history because you like the guy. the face of the basement years will be the legacy that cancer93 leaves behind.

  26. Capt.Tim Says:

See Tmaxipad, thats what Im talking about!
You and your Co-workers think Greald McCoy is a Quarterback
    Q U A R T E R B A C K
A Quarterback is the guy who has the football every play. He has the most to do with winning or losing. But even he depends on other people.
The Quarterback is an OFFENSIVE PLAYER. They score points!

Your romantic interest, Gerald McCoy, is a Defensive tackle
    D E F E N S I V E T A C K L E.
Defensive tackles dont win or lose games
    Ever
Their job is to clog up the middle, and stop the running game up the middle
If you have a great DT- Like Gerald McCoy, then he can actually collapse the pocket, forcing the QB to scamble into your DEFENSIVE END .
Tampa doesnt have one of those.
    Which is too bad
A Great DEFENSIVE END( see Simeon Rice), Teamed with a great DEFENSIVE TACKLE, results in both of them getting sacks. The QB had no where to go!

But DEFENSIVE TACKLES have no real influence on the overall outcome of the Game, unless they have help. Even then, its still up to the QB.

Now, do you understand? No matter how much you drool over him, McCoy is the Game controlling God you make him out to be.

But I dont want that to dampen your love for him

  27. BucEmUp Says:

Your right coach the qb doesnot have the plauge ….you ARE the plauge. Do your bff a favor and quit before you get everyone fired

  28. cmurda Says:

Tmax. We get your agenda. Even the first time posters are like, man this Tmax dude can’t stand McCoy. I’m in the middle on McCoy. I tink he does what he is supposed to do and remains a top 5 DT, just like he should be. McCoy is the least of the problems for the Bucs. In fact, the biggest problem, Mike Smith should be castrated for not trying new things to create pressure. I don’t mean a simple LB blitz. How about mixing it up and lining up McCoy as a DE and stick McDonald in McCoy’s typical spot. See if McCoy can generate pressure off the edge. With his strength, it wouldn’t surprise me if he could. I don’t mean full time but it’s worth a few snaps to see the potential.

  29. BigMacAttack Says:

So McCoy93 has had 40 good plays in 10 games. The other 90% of the time he’s pretty much been ineffective, and half of that he’s sucked. Licht needs to trade him after the season. But Swaggy was a good pickup lol not.

  30. BigMacAttack Says:

Or move McCoy to DE for the remaining games and see what he can do.

  31. godzilla13 Says:

If the Bucs beat the Dixie Chicks and win next weeks game they are back at .500 and in the playoff hunt. Just think of that. All would be forgiven. Don’t turn the ball over, keep Jones in check and get Matty Ice to play an average game.
