Approaching Sullivan Impotence

November 27th, 2017

Rough first acts

Once upon a Schiano, the Bucs earned an impotence score of 83.

That’s the total number of points Tampa Bay scored in the second halves through the 2013 season.

Mike Sullivan’s offense went from stud (2012) to dud in a hurry, averaging just 5.2 points through all third and fourth quarters of 2013.

It was brutal, Mike Glennon, Tiquan Underwood, Bobby Rainey and Tim Wright. That’s hardly DeSean Jackson, Mike Evans, O.J. Howard, Cameron Brate and America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, or Ryan Fitzpatrick.

But you know what the Bucs are averaging this season in the first halves of games? 8.2 points.

Yep. Take away the opener against the Bears, and Tampa Bay is averaging just 6.4 points in first halves through their last 10 games. That’s less than a touchdown, folks.

There are many problems with the 2017 Bucs, but if you want to pick one easy target, this first-half impotence is Exhibit A.

No excuse.

    impotence is the correct word

  2. AlteredEgo Says:

It ain’t the coaching.. it is to some degree the talent… but to a greater degree the attitude and passion of the players… that have given up on the game and are satisfied cashing checks and reading articles such as this pointing blame at everything but themselves.. coaching is always a better scapegoat than looking in the mirror

  3. DB55 Says:

Who is this O.J. Howard you speak of, does he play football for the Bucs? I think you meant to say Adam Humphries, no?

  4. Guzzie Says:

The main problems are our offensive gameplans and defensive game plans! If only we had a competent OC and DC, even if we had a good OC or DC, we might get by, but we don’t, is it draft season yet

  5. Bucnjim Says:

This goes back to being able to motivate NFL players. Gruden had a knack for it and so did Monte Kiffin! Held each one accountable and called them out individually when mistakes were made. Neither was a player favorite but they shouldn’t be. Being friends only means being taken advantage off. Whether you are a parent, teacher, manager, or coach there needs to be that respect factor that is really what is missing in society. You can hate The Patriots and their coach but he commands respect.

  6. cmurda Says:

@DB55. OJ Howard? He was a solid tight end for Alabama in his college days. He was projected to go early in the draft. I wonder what ever happened to the young fella.

  7. bucs_365 Says:

OJ Howard is a rookie and doesn’t need to be called upon to be the focus of the offense. His usage in the passing game is NOT one of the main reasons for the overall impotence. It’s hard to say specifically what the deal is. Seems the running game is reason #1. And the failure to execute in the passing game for reasons that are unclear is reason #2.

  8. Tackleblockwin Says:

That high huh. Way to go O.

  9. brooks55hof Says:

Next coach up. Next GM up. SLUMPBUSTERS

  10. Rob Says:

2nd and 2 from the Atlanta 19 and down by 7 and we crap the bed three times in a row. Line up and POUND THE FLIPPING ROCK! I say. My gosh, we have two stud tight ends and we can’t run for two yards. Pathetic. Be professional and do your flipping job. Coaching failures, players dropping the ball, jumping offsides multiple times, holding. The true ineptness of this team is amazing. And people are patting them on the back saying we played them close…Screw that loser mentality. Hold these clowns accountable. Someone has to pay for this crap. Thank God I didn’t buy season tickets for this hot mess. My heart goes out to people who pay money to watch that minor league play. Tampa doesn’t deserve such a crappy football team. Go Bucs!

  11. Defense Rules Says:

Altered ego, I’m sorry but it’s BOTH … Coaching AND Talent (or lack thereof). This Bucs team has a plethora of talent at certain positions, but they’re REALLY deficient at certain other key positions. Our problem is largely that coaching on BOTH sides of the ball is too rigid. Square pegs in round holes, etc..

  12. martinii Says:

Every year when the Buc’s make their slide South and the replace coaches argument starts circulating, I wonder WHO is available and who is up to the challenge? Someone out of the college ranks? Schiano? A DB coach? Raheem Morris? A seasoned HC? Lovie Smith? A former 1 trick pony Jon Gruden? Been watching football a long time and “Musical Coaches” is not the Answer. Consistency is a learning process that often takes more than 2 seasons. A lot of what we have is new and deserves the time it takes to become a winner.Next Coach up rarely works. We have some talented players, lets take the time to make them Winners.

  13. Gencoimports Says:

If Dirk Koetter returns as HC next season, the Glazers should mandate that he name someone else as the playcaller. His playcalling was much better when he was OC. that. and our OL sure misses Logan Mankins.

  14. gotbbucs Says:

This coaching staff is scheming as if it were 1998. I think the coaching staff and front office are trying to build two separate styles of teams here.

  15. D-Rome Says:

It’s absurd for anyone to suggest the Bucs aren’t talented enough on offense. I’ve heard people try to make this argument here and other places.

  16. DB55 Says:

Should we put out a APB or file a missing persons report? Damn shame too the kid was projected as the best TE in the draft. Too bad he’s MIA now. Shucks.

  17. cmurda Says:

On offense, there is no doubt about the talent on this team. Mike Evans and D Jax are proven. Godwin has been great given the chance. OJ is everything we expected. Brate is a proven solid TE and JW’s play didn’t really fall off until the injury. We have no running back and I put that on Licht especially when a guy like Kareem Hunt was out there for the taking in Rd 3 or Marlon Mack in Rd 4. Anyway, this is not about our offense not being talented enough. Dirk has been awful. Look no further than the 2nd and 2 debacle that we are all talking about. I get your position Joe but if you take a confidence poll on Koetter now, many of the confident people will be in the little or no confidence choices. How could you ignore the playcalling and decision making and feel comfy with Dirk?

  18. Issic Haggins Says:

@ Bucs n Jim, Grudens game with the players only lasted two years and by the third they had been deceived and lied to enough to last them a career

  19. Roy T. Buford Says:

Next preseason I’m going to heed the warnings. At 1-3 that was short on getting TDs, especially in the Game 3 “dress rehearsal” against the ZERO AND ELEVEN FREAKING BROWNS who beat us….should have seen warning flags all over. Headed to 5-11 at BEST.

Our regular season again has looked just like the pre-season. “Oh now” I told myself, “they are just keeping Winston-to-Djax under wraps to let it rip during regular season.

What’s funny…Doug Martin, Ali Marpet, Robet Ayers, VHIII all with very good chane of being out in Green Bay…I don’t think it will make a difference in the overall play quality or score. No question, I’d bet some other players on this team suddenly are hurt before gametime on the tundra…forecast for freezing weather this weekend with highs in the mid-40s.

I hope you are joking DB

    https://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/G/GonzTo00.htm

Seems as Howard is FAR ahead of Gonzalez (at this time) with less targets. Dude does work in the foxholes too! He was No.2 on our draft board for a reason. No way we should have landed him.

  21. SB Says:

Sorry for the links Joe that are keeping my last comment in mod mode

  22. BucThis Says:

IT IS THE COACHES!!!! Incompetence!!!!!! OUR BS COACHES DONT EVEN MAKE ADJUSTMENTS!!!! EVEN JULIO JONES SAID IT HIMSELF!
    http://thefalconswire.usatoday.com/2017/11/27/julio-jones-on-bucs-they-didnt-make-any-adjustments-so-we-kept-throwing-the-ball/amp/

JOES QUIT DEFENDING THESE INCOMPETENT COACHES!!!

  23. SB Says:

Anyway, the point I was trying to illustrate to DB that is currently in moderation is that Howard already has as many TDs as Tony Gonzalez had in his first Two years.
    Just sayin.

  24. SB Says:

And Houston should get RID of those Cancers JJ Watt and Jadaveon Clowney.
Those guys can’t win any games and get their team to the Playoffs or a SuperBowl! Frickin Losers

  25. Maze Says:

    Gruden is the dream now

  26. DBS Says:

And the Crap we have listen to.
    “But all we need is”.
    “# Weapons For Winston”
So what’s the excuse for next season?

  27. America's Groper Says:

Clowney has 8 sacks this year, before tonights game. I would hardly count hjm as a loser. In tonights game he is wrecking some havoc. Maybe get off the internet a catch a game tonight

  28. Erik w/ Clean Athletics 'The Kwon Alexander of Bucs fans' Says:

Maybe it’s about to give Koetter a new moniker (other than losing Bucs coach).

Lame Duck Bucs Coach Dirk Koetter

His offensive scheme makes me want to wretch.

  29. DB55 Says:

Oh god SB why you triggered i didn’t even mention the ice cream man. #IceCream🍦

My point is simple if you have two 6’5″ TEs and. 6’5″ WR wtf are you throwing it to a 4’3″ munchkin? You got 2 first round picks on the field but you call a play for the udfa. Furthermore you have one of the fastest guys in the nfl why not throw the screen to him? Why is hump even in the rotation? That’s my point but of course, wtfdik.

Vh3 another first rd pick should be returning punts, have you seen him return kicks? He’s nastier than hump. Godwin should be in the rotation over hump. And if all these draft picks are otherwise unavailable then Bobo should play but wtfdik.

  30. DB55 Says:

    SB

Correct me if I’m wrong but the Texans reached the playoffs 4 times since JJ Watt was drafted and twice since Clowney was drafted.

JJ Watt is NOT ice cream! he’s more like Steve Austin (take your pick). This man has reconstructed his entire body and plays with blood gushing from his face.

So to your analogy I see CHILD PLEASE, KISS THE 👶 🍼

  31. cmurda Says:

I’ll tell you is returning kicks. Kaelin Clay, that’s who. This dude was cut from this team before given much of a chance and he’s probably the most dangerous guy returning punts and kicks in the NFL. This has been the way of the walk with our GM’s. Dominic set this franchise back who knows how many years and Licht is looking decent at drafting but not much else.

  32. Duke Says:

    DB55,

Hold the phone! You’re suggesting that the coaches put all the best playmakers on the field at the same time! Dude that’s just wr………….oh wait just a second.
    Damn, that is genius!

  33. DB55 Says:

    But wtfdik!

  34. stevbobucfan Says:

I think if Koetter make better play calls or let someone else on the staff call plays, I like M Smith but he need to be replaced I think the Bucs should be able to win. Bucs have plenty of talent on both sides of the ball. it just seems like there is a lot of bad play calling on both sides of the ball we could also use a RB I thought for sure they would have taken Mack from South Fl being that he was still there in the late rounds at least to accommodate Martin

  35. Pelbuc Says:

Glazers please fire everyone 10 seconds after the last game starting with the GM and then get a no nonsense type like Jacksonville did with Coughlin. Good coaches can turn it around in one season like the Rams and Eagles. Draft Dline, Oline, DB and RB and let Griffin play out the remaining games to see what you got. Trade GMC to get more picks and make it more of a business atmosphere like Patriots. It starts at the top!

  36. Mike in LOL Says:

As much as I hate your ice cream snack talks DB, you’re right on the money on this one. I like Hump, he was serviceable last year when our receiving depth was embarrassing.

But ya man pretty much anything Humphries did or has done, I’d rather see either DJax Evans or OJ do now… we’ve got some stars and some blossoming players, let’s feed em frequently and see how it grows.

  37. Lamarcus Says:

Jw is not even part of the problem. How can u say that? When u have 1 successful year of out 41 and missed the playoffs the last 10 years the Buccaneers organization should be public enemy number 1. Enough to make u believe that any player gets here they falloff. And they have. Losing culture!!!!

  38. Mike in LOL Says:

And Godwin of course. Really sad we haven’t been using him all year, you can just tell from this guys personna he wants it bad and I believe he’ll be a great success, hopefully in TB.

  39. THETRUTH Says:

It’s not lack of talent , ITS COACHING !

Coach doesn’t put players in best position to make plays

Julio Jones goes 4 games without scoring is. It due to his talent and than they make a plan to get him touches and he blows up.

How come Howard not being used like Tony Gonzalez was in ATL ??

2 and 9 and you run a sweep left after you have tried 6 prior times and it resulted in no yards. Coaching

  40. Lamarcus Says:

    The truth

Coaching must be disposed. In a age where Bilacheat can muster the best of what he got and yes buccaneers have better talent than them outside of brady. But msith can’t scheme up absolutely nothing kinda baffles me. We fans on here Joebucsfan (about a good 70 percent) could of drew up something better than that bs Sunday within a day.
Msmith probably got early onset dementia from those repeated pounding from jj. Msmith probably thought he was coaching altanta. But anyway joe. U say u pound martin for non production? What about msmith? He is perhaps the historical coach of the weakest defense I ever saw in tampa. This defense is the letdown of year. This defense is only good against weak competition. This offense had its drag thru great defense from there schedule:

Bears, viking, patriots, cards, bills, panthers, saints, dolphins, jets, falcons all have some kinda defense. Our defense vs those said above teams are not that good. Ok saints have a good offense not unstoppable. This defense is shocking. I think if we had to 2 freak de’s it wouldn’t even matter. Smith should get the dm treatment for sure.

  41. PRBucFan Says:

    Been saying it all year.

    But noooo lol

  42. 813bucboi Says:

horrible coaching!!!!…with all this talent and we cant score…..but yeah, blame the players…GTFOH!!!….GO BUCS!!!

  43. Tom Says:

I agree with dangling Evans as trade bait. I think Godwin would be a more than adequate replacement.
