“You Want To See Great Blocking?”

October 4th, 2017

“My blocking is looking almost as good as my hair.”

There were a lot of bubbles burst Sunday.

Though it didn’t happen a whole lot Sunday, usually, Joe’s mentions on the JoeBucsFan Twitter timeline during Bucs games are filled with fans outraged by the offensive line, even though they don’t normally know what they are outraged about. Joe is convinced folks are programmed to whine about the offensive line just because.

Well, former NFL offensive lineman Brian Baldinger, who now works for NFL Network, posted a clip on his Twitter demonstrating how the Bucs had superior blocking up front Sunday.

He burst a bubble as well, a myth that a week ago Bucs fans were beginning to kvetch about.

Tight end O.J. Howard has been an asset to the running game. Baldinger highlights Howard taking out Giants defensive end Mr. Three Fingers, Jason Pierre-Paul, on a block that helped spring Jacquizz Rodgers for a big gain.

So it seems many Bucs fans will have to invent something else to grumble about Thursday night.

Cant say I heard too much complaining about the Oline. Jameis had time and the run game was working. We did have some snapping issues but that will get better with time.

Now, the Dline…. somebody has to step up and touch a QB.

  2. Wright in Montana Says:

The offense of line is playing much better this year than last so far.

  3. SOEbuc Says:

Ali just gotta get better snapping the ball. I know he will in time.

  4. ChiefInspectorClousseau Says:

Certain the Joes have lots of folks yelling in their ears that we would never know about, because, you know, how could we?

  5. Blake_Bucsfan Says:

Yeah, The entire Oline looked fantastic on this play.

And check out that stud to the left of your screen. Just look at the way O.J. seals off J.P.P. like its nothing.

Being able to do that week in and week out against the best of the best DE’s in the league is a huge asset to this football team for many years to come.

It also doesn’t hurt that the kid can flat out fly for being a 251 pound behemoth.

We’ll win a lot of games this year if O.J. can Average 31.5 yards per catch and a touchdown per game.

I thought it was just 4 pr 5 butthurt FSU homers who were complaining about OJ?

Joe, are there really that many complaining about OJ?

The o-line I could understand more cuz they were not very good at run blocking last year. This year they seem improved in run blocking (and pass protection). They’ll get some bigger tests in a few weeks,

  7. Roy T. Buford Says:

How well will the line play on color-rush throwback night? Orange pants with a red inset stripe, red and orange socks, orange jerzeys with red and white letters…and the normal helmets. And some think the uni’s are ugly now…

  8. Easy Denman Says:

I miss watching the Playbook show on NFL Network with Baldy and Bullock. Now it’s all fantasy crap

  9. The Buc Realist Says:

Really, the O-line complaints that I heard was when Joe was about AM74 moving from guard to center!!!!!!!

Moving the pieces in the interior of the O-line was and is paying off!!!!!!

But do not discount all the hard work to get the )-Tackles penalties down!!!!! Both DS76 and DD69 were in the top 5 of most penalized players in the NFL!!!!!!! And this year, that problem has been corrected!!!!! Great Coaching Indeed!!!!!!!!!

    Go Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!

  10. Buc4lyfe79 Says:

People these days are just programmed to whine Period. Participation trophies all around right?

  11. Matthew Says:

Before everyone runs off patting each other on the back regarding the OL play, is no one going to address Marpet’s continued 3-4 gastly snaps per game. He nearly threw the game away on that critical 3rd down throw Winston made to Brate in the 4th with a HORRIBLE snap. I get it Marpet is still learning on the fly but he’s now put 3 consecutive weeks with multiple bad snaps per game; that won’t fly in college let alone Pros. I’m hoping he fixes it ASAP but I haven’t overly impressed with his move to center; at least so far.

  12. Jdr Says:

Howard has been our most efficient run Blocker on the line. Game 1 most of our positive yards by running backs we’re behind Howard
He has also been awesome and pass protection when they have held him back

  13. Joe Says:

    Amen, easy.

  14. CautiousOptimism Says:

If the oline can start blocking better on run downs you can expect to see a big year for Doug Martin who had atrocious blocking in front of him last year. Good blocking that leads to good rushing from Doug Martin is bad for false narratives but is great for the Bucs and it’s fans.

  15. DB55 Says:

Outstanding blocking now just needs to work on his snap.

  16. Rads Says:

Funny how so many were whining about Rodgers not scoring on this play. Juking that safety out of his cleats extended a play that should have been over, but ruined the chance of keeping his speed up. Beautiful blocking and run.

  17. DB55 Says:

Honestly joe after watching the game again last night I must admit the O-line doesn’t completely suck but I wonder if it’s just the giants.

He11 even Evan Smith is killing it.

  18. BigMacAttack Says:

Best O line we’ve had in years

  19. Brandon Says:

OJ was a steal even if his catch totals don’t show it right now.

Now with Cook tearing his ACL we can hopefully put the SHOULDAs and COULDAs to bed now… this is why you don’t draft a RB high, people. It’s a disposable position.

  20. Kobe Faker Says:

    To the Buc Sheep

Putting OJ Stocker on the slot against a linebacker will remove the stacked box on the line and automatically open space/holes for the runner

“OJ Stocker is unstoppable as a redzone target with the right play design”

    Kobe Faker

    #FREEOJSTOCKER

  21. webster Says:

Again i ask where are all the arm chair gms crying for cook? Oj’s skillset is unique yet the uneducated arm chair gms still cried for cook.

    @ kobe

Very disrespectable to call oj ojstocker. While stocker was the bucs best blocking tightend, he was never an elite blocking tight end. The bucs know what they are doing. Oj will get his targets in due time. Kill that oj stocker nonsense. It only adds to the nonsense i see you are known for on this board. You should want to represent yourself better than that.

  22. Lord Cornelius Says:

The O-line has been great. There were a ton of posters who talked all sorts of sh1t about what we did or didn’t do for the O-line in the off season. I guarantee none will admit it; and will move on to some other gripe. sigh

  23. The Buc Realist Says:

Lord Cornelius is right!!!!!! and most of those posters are selecting new screen names!!!!!!

It reminds me of when we told the sheep months ago!!!!!!!……….OMG Its a Realist Repost!!!!!!!!!!!!

“You remember correctly!!!! And word on the street is that DS76 has lost weight and is bending very well!!!!! They are working on keeping the clock for pass blocking a little longer!!!!!! Also, the play calling will help setup the O-line for success this year!!!! They were put into a predictable box due to all the injuries to WR, RB and TE!!!!

Really, the Tackles just have to cut down the penalties, ( which I am sure is another point of emphisis!!!) and this unit will be more than fine!!!!! They will just need a little time to get the communication down and AM74 squared away will the line adjustment calls!!!!”

    Go Bucs!!!!!!!!!!
