“I Obviously Did A Horrible Job Of Getting These Guys Ready To Play”

October 15th, 2017

Takes blame.

Winning Bucs coach Dirk Koetter pulled no punches in his postgame presser today. And he squarely stood in front of the firing squad and took full blame for the utter debacle of a Bucs loss.

The gutless Bucs defense coughed up 31 points before the Bucs had an answer. And Koetter put the bulls-eye right on his own chest.

“I can’t tell you how disappointed and embarrassed I am at the way we played through the first two quarters and the first two series of the third quarter,” Koetter said. “That starts with me. I obviously did a horrible job of getting these guys ready to play because that was the worst half of football I have ever seen in my life.”

Given the years of football under Koetter’s belt, that is a damning accusation and Joe appreciates Koetter’s candor. No need to do Mickey Mouse high school crap looking for positives.

The is one of the biggest turds the Bucs have ever dropped in the middle of a cathedral.

    Now that’s an honest man!!!!!

  2. Roy T. Buford Says:

Is Dirk taking “excuse lessons” from GMC? You can use this excuse ONE time. When used a SECOND time it looks like you don’t know what you’re doing.

  3. Mr. E Nigma Says:

We hear the same excuses each week.

WHICH GAME DIRK? MIN, NE, or today? Where are all the weapons? Why such risky, low probability passes so early when we KNOW Jameis thrives on quick pace, slants, and short cross routes to get wamred up? Why not coach and let someone else cal the plays? As I thought last year and confirm now, you are too task saturated to do it all.

    APB for GMC…………

……where is a fearless leader of our defense at??????

He miss be doing his normal disappearing act as usual again.

I watch the dolphins game and atleast Suh was noticeable ALL GAME long with disruptions………….GMC…….I didn’t even know he was playing for the first three quarters..

  6. I'm tired and 87 is right Says:

    And you should!

  7. Born again Bucs fan Says:

You’re doing a horrible job in general Dirk… step up or step down.

  8. Roy T. Buford Says:

Know what’s worse than coaching the worst half of football you have seen in your life?

It’s being a season ticket holder who travels to see the Bucs a couple times a year and actually PAYS to see it. At least Dirk gets paid a few hundred grand per game. Plus his airfare and hotel are paid…

Getting triple teamed and making a one armed sack. But it’s his fault I could get more of an edge rush than our ends. And its his fault that we weren’t in our run gaps. I think it’s even his fault Jameis got hurt.

  10. SOEbuc Says:

THIS IS RIDICULOUS!!! HE SAYS THIS EVERY TIME WE LOSE AND IT’S OBVIOUS THAT IS WHAT HAS BEEN HAPPENING. WAIT TILL THE END OF THE SEASON, BUT GET ON THE PHONE WITH CHUCKY RIGHT NOW GLAZERS!!!

  11. Roy T. Buford Says:

Here’s a silver lining. I was worried about the Bucs being able to win today, against BUF, AND come back home and beat CAR. Problem solved. I don’t have to worry about it anymore. I actually think they’ll work hard and more seriously this week (for a BUF team coming off their bye), and maybe play well for the second time this year. Then maybe come home and show us how they’ve improved.

They’ll still be in at least third place, but I think we may avoid a beat down in BUF.

  12. University of Seffner Says:

I still believe in Dirk, Mike, Jameis, Licht, and the rest of the crew. If the team got shut out today, I’d start to get concerned. I’m still optimistic about the team because they didn’t have a “we give up” attitude. There were some things in the 2nd half that were good to see.

  13. Roy T. Buford Says:

In a back room of the enormous Sean Payton household, Sean high-fived Drew Brees about an hour ago. Plan A accomplished. Success. Got a draft pick for an unused aging QB…but rested him up well to trade to ARI and use as a surrogate this week to sling the Bucs down into the cellar. WOO HOO!

  14. Roy T. Buford Says:

    Aging RB….

  15. jimmyjack Says:

We left 14 points on the field vs the Giants, got dominated in TOP vs the PATS who threw a turnover and a 3and out to start the game last week…..Meanwhile, the Eagles just wrote a book on how to destroy the ARI defense yet Dirk give the same gameplan that didnt work against a horrible NE defense.

There is no players we can give to Dirk here people. He has plenty of talent and is just flat out wasting it.

Dirk is so lost that he is resorting to calling read options and putting Simms in the slot. We deserve better then another horrible HC. Theres too much talent here for Dirk to have any excuse. He needs to hire 2 legit coordinators and get the he!! out of the way.

The thing that really bothers me is there is no hope to see us show any different. If that were possible we would still be looking at the same problems that have gone unaddressed since Dirk got here. We will never contend with this guy. He is not NFL caliber

  16. Roy T. Buford Says:

    @Seffner. I admire your optism…
But consider the team has to TRY in the first half in order to NOT GIVE UP in the second half.

The problem is, for the second if not third game this year of five, the Bucs didn’t show up at the time printed on the ticket.

  17. Ed Says:

Everyone has a job to do. When the kicker’s didn’t do their jobs they were replaced. I guess the knife you placed in the back of the Coach, that hired you is coming back to haunt you. It’s the curse of Lovie Smith, until you resign this team will continue to loose. You have no idea what you are doing as a head coach and trying to redirect the real problem, which is you and the GM with the excuse.

  18. Cwis Says:

I agree with Roy. Play to your players strengths. Help them. Don’t repeat the same mistake week after week without trying to fix it. Winston needs easy throws. Slants, screens, etc. our offense is dated and needs some creativity (coaching).

  19. dirkdiggler Says:

the whole game was bad Dirk. obviously youre trying to hang your hat on garbage time stats. youve lost the team and the fans confidence. The seat is RED HOT NOW.

  20. Pelbuc Says:

we’ve seen this movie before. This is the sequel to Raheem/Dominick.

  21. Dewey Selmon Says:

Dirk the OC was down, 7-0 before the 1st snap, 14-0, then 21-0. I said early you can’t pin this on Jameis, just like Dirk. His game plan went out the window early. real early.

  22. Architek Says:

Why is every anomaly observed and or absorbed at the hands of Tampa? I’m so tired and embarrassed.

  23. Architek Says:

130 rushing yards to a washed up old RB???

  24. Captain Big Stick Says:

The seat is not red hot for Dirk Koetter, but I do question not kicking extra points, those four points plus a fg before the half changes that game down the stretch. None the less, the defense didn’t come to play until the second half today. We just need to put it all together and this team will get on a roll. Hopefully Jameis is alright though, my heart sank after seeing his face following the hit by Jones. I was having flash backs to the Packer game, I wasn’t all that surprise when I saw Fitz getting ready to play.

We shot ourselves in the foot today, repeatedly. Can’t keep doing that..

    Go Bucs!

  25. Ocala Says:

It’s hard to disagree with Dirk,

I’m a realistic fan but if this roster of the Bucs does not end up with a winning record with this roster the Bucs need to move on from their Head Coach

He has proven to be a questionable play caller, often doesn’t have his team ready and does a poor job with clock management.

  26. orlbucfan Says:

It wasn’t just you, Koetter, it was Mike Smith too. No wonder the Dixie Chicks got rid of you 2!!

  27. Captain Big Stick Says:

Also, props to the team for making a game out of today.. I almost gave up and I just watch, those guys stuck in there and dang near pulled it off

  28. Bucsfan951 Says:

He’s good as an offensive coordinator… He’s good as a head coach… JUST NOT BOTH! Pass me the crown, my liver hurts!

  29. NJBucsFan Says:

It is criminal that we are wasting our first round pick on blocking only.

  30. Roy T. Buford Says:

I’m past the Crown. Pass me the jar…for my liver.

  31. Kevo Says:

    Two words. John Gruden

  32. playerunknown Says:

Koetter should just resign just like Bruce Arenas did for the USMNT after their horrific display.

  33. Big Stinky Says:

So tired of the excuses with this team underachieving ALL the time. Maybe the players aren’t as good as we think they are, too much blowing smoke going on. Other than the 2 INT’s old Fitzy looked better than JW3 has ALL year. That’s SCAREY! Really don’t know what to say about that because Fitz is NOT that good. Maybe Jameis should just watch for a couple weeks and let his shoulder heal. This season is going to be over in a couple weeks the way they are playing anyway. Don’t know what to do to change what’s going on either. Is it players or coaching? Why can’t we stop the run? Why did JW3 throw deep on the first play after ALL the misses last week? Play call or decision? Why do you keep going for 2 points OR even try that early in the game? Will Winston EVER be a franchise QB? Why do ALL these younger QB’s look better than JW3 already? Who do we blame for sucking so bad so often? Can we do better with a different coach? Why do I care? No more excuses! Playoffs or Bust! Go BUCS!

  34. Ocala Says:

    Kevo

    I agree
The one place JOHN Gruden would coach is the Tampa Bay Buccaneers

  35. cgmaster Says:

Big stinky, other than those two interceptions he looked better? DO you even read what you just typed? In that case, outside of Jameis’ 3 picks in a game, he’s been perfect on the season. If the defense didn’t give up 24 points in the first half, they played ok. That’s what it sounds like.
And ofcourse Fitz looked good against cover 4 and peters out.

  36. LakeLand Says:

Dirk Koetter had 10 days to get this team ready for Arizona. No excuse, especially after that beat down last year in Arizona.

  37. TrollSlayer Says:

pewter report is already writing articles about koetter needing to step up with gruden lurking lol hilarious im trying hard not to bash this team right now we showed great effort in the latter half of the game i dont know where to begin tho we have way too much talent to look like this and im with joe now on the RB situation i tried so hard to root for martin and company but we need better stable of backs and winston im still on his side he IS improving this year but the playcalling seems to regress him dirk needs to take off the training wheels let jaboo make some risks run more no huddles and let jameis read the defense and determine calls at the line this kid has tremendous football IQ he doesnt need to be looking to the sideline after every play waiting for one of dirks exotic looks and koetter should hire an efficient QB guru for an OC i like monken but hes just not cutting it in my opinion

  38. BigPoppaBuc Says:

At least he knows. This game plan on both sides of the ball was waaaay off. I would have fought fire with fire and let Doug try and match Peterson. Send a message. Free up D-Jax deep. On defense, stuff that box and blitz Carson Palmer. This coaching staff needs to step up. This roster is not terrible.

  39. 813bucboi Says:

Sounds like the same song every week Dirk…GO BUCS!!!

  40. D-Rome Says:

Who cares about his honesty and candor? Lovie Smith said the same kind of stuff after losses too.

  41. Mr Ed Says:

Dirk may need to quit trying to be head coach. Let Mike Smith try. He can’t coach defense so why not? At least he had some success as a head coach once.

Candor is nice. Reality is tough. Dirk -you’re simply not head coaching material. Try, try again — then quit. No sense being a total fool about it.

  42. Mike Johnson Says:

Well I’ll be a monkeys A..! You admit you did not have our Bucs ready to play. Well Dirk..Fire Yourself! You were Outcoached today. Bruce Arians jumped on you like a cheap searsucker suit! I like the way he complemented you and Jameis all week and then..walloped the hell out of you. Midway thru the 1st qtr, my wife (who usuually never curses) said, what kind of Sh.. is this?!! We got so pissed and embarrassed, we left after the 1st half to go see Blade Runner 2045. It was better than our Bucs. Nobody feels sorry for you Tampa Bay Bucs. Ruck up..win some game..Or there will be more laughs and paper bags!

  43. Matt B Says:

Yes, Coach. You obviously did a horrible job.

  44. Shane Says:

Our great WR’s got locked up when Patrick Peterson was in the game. Looked like they were jogging that first half. No fire no intensity.

  45. darin Says:

When i said that was the worst coached game Id ever seen, I didnt even take into account not having them ready. I was talking about all the other huge rookie mistakes, in game management. He had no clue. The players didnt wana give up, i respect that. The coach gave up, before halftime. That hardly leaves hope. Terrible.

  46. jeff chick Says:

Wow This coach and gm need help . reality is setting in

  47. Negative Jeff Says:

Dirk – ask for help!!!!!! Stop calling the plays. You are not Jon Gruden. Only the great ones can do both. Worked for the Giants.

  48. Mr Ed Says:

It will be interesting to watch what corrective action, if any, ensues from this monstrous humiliation. The comeback?! Bwahahahahaaaaaa. What a laugh. That was prevent defeat 101, with Big Bruce knowing he could just target Hargreaves any time he wanted to cash in on another big play.

That was despicable. I find myself thinking the Glazers should say something publicly, apologizing for the disrespect their team showed for themselves, their fans, thei team’s owners, setting the standard of acceptable NFL football back 60years, and last for firing Jon Gruden. They brought thismall on themselves, and us.

All the people that knee jerked to want Gruden fired? Live with it. You asked for it. You get what you deserve.
