Damning Word From Adrian Peterson

October 20th, 2017

Salt in the wound.

This will make you want to wing your coffee across the office.

As if last week’s baseball-bat beating by the Cardinals wasn’t bad enough for Bucs fans, Cardinals running back Adrian Peterson had a galling comment about the Bucs’ defensive effort.

Or, Joe should more correctly type, lack of effort?

Reporting from London where the Cardinals are to face the Rams — nothing like two NFC West division foes traveling halfway across the world to play each other — NFL Network reporter, and a favorite of Joe’s, Stacey Dales spoke off camera with Peterson and she asked what it felt like to carry the mail for the first time year over a year against the Bucs.

Per Dales, Peterson told her toting the rock in the first half against the Bucs that his legs felt “heavy.”

Think about this for a second: Peterson ran through the Bucs defense as if he was Walter Payton in his prime. Yet, the 32-year old was pulled out of mothballs and ran like he was 22-years old, boat-racing the Bucs defense for 134 yards and two touchdowns. And he said he didn’t feel 100 percent!

Joe would like to know what the hell kind of strip club or night club the Bucs go to in Phoenix the night before games? My God, this is disgusting!

2 things I’ve learned to accept: We can’t win in Arizona and we can’t beat Case Keenum.

so the bucs were unprepared to stop “heavy legged” AP!!!!…wonder how we’ll fair against a fresh well rested shaddy!!!!…GO BUCS!!!!

Yeah… we had no use for that washed up old guy.

  6. Bradentonbuc Says:

Definitely concerning, it’s moments like these where the wheels can start to fall of for an organization/coaching staff.
At what point do we stop wasting our time with trying to develop pass rushers and just go get one via trade or Free Agency.
I’ll be killed for saying this, but I believe Clinton McDonald and picks could net us someone worth while. I’d hate to see Clinton go but I believe he’s in the last year or his contract and is on the wrong side of 30. For whom, well I am not making the calls but it wouldn’t hurt to dangle someone with good production
Yes, for all of you dopes out there I know this is not madden.

    Uh, huh. #NodsHead

I don’t expect AP to reproduce what he did against the bucs for the rest of the reason….when are you folks going to realise our defence are their to make washed up players feel young again and turn bum players into HOFers. We were so bad in Minnesota that we have created a qb controversy out of Keenum ‘FFS’ in Minnesota. Marinade on that while you rock back and forth on your porch with a bottle of bourban in one hand and a lighter in the other.

I’ve noticed there are positions we can coach/scout… And ones we can’t. Organizationally.

    Qb
    Cb
    DE

All of these positions players seem to regress/underperform/not live up to hype.

Jameis has gotten worse it seems in fundamentals every year. In the first quarter where he is trying to do what he has been coached… whether it’s footwork or windup, he sucks. When he is in panic mode in the second half and he regressed back to Florida State fundamentals, he thrives. Now think about Jonathan banks and Vernon hargraves. Then Adrian Clayburn daquan bowers…

But on the other hand, we seem to be quite good at getting water from a stone at the running back position, the linebacker position, and on the online.

We need to evaluate the difference in how we treat these players or we are doomed.

  11. Pickgrin Says:

It really bothered me that the Bucs did not seem to have any interest in taking a look at a Peterson – a 1st ballot HOFer who WANTED to play for the Bucs and was in great shape and looking fantastic according to the reports that trickled out when Jameis and some Bucs receivers went to work out with AP in the off season.

AP signed with the Saints for only $3M for 1 year. Its beyond me that the Bucs would not bring him in for that price and let him compete considering we all knew DM would be out for the 1st 3 games and the backs behind Doug are average at best.

Licht is doing a great job overall IMO – but not bringing in AP for a small amount of $ when he wanted to be here is a head scratcher to me. Would love to know his reasoning on that one.

  12. Joe Says:

    Pick:

Pretty sure AP fooled a lot of folks, not just Licht. Not only was New Orleans only team interested in signing him, Sean Payton saw him every day in practice and had him buried on the bench.

We will find out in next few weeks if what AP did to Bucs was a fluke or if he really does have gas left in tank.

  13. ruggyup Says:

Beware of the Bills’ offense and defense so maligned on this blog. You don’t go ito Bills’ Orchard Park stadium and find apples(TDs) dropping off trees.

  14. TheBucsAnthem Says:

Hey Mr GMC aka “Mr Softie”!!!!!!!!!!!

…stop playing with your batman dolls in your batcave and read what this old man RB said about you and your defense since you are the self-appointed leader of these lazy bums who couldn’t even show up last sunday.

I hope you get em’ fired up and then atleast show up on the field against the Bills.

  15. Lamarcus Says:

    Ap=fluke

It will be even more embarrassing if sucks the rest of the way

  16. GoBucYourself Says:

AP is just hyping himself by saying his legs felt heavy. If he truly feels heavy, it’s because he’s full of sh*t.

  17. Eric Says:

He could barely make the endzone after he ran through the New Jersey sized hole in our line on the first touchdown.

  18. Kobe Faker Says:

    LOL @Eric

after running 20 yards untouched, AARP had to suck on the oxygen tank before he passed out

  19. Alanbucsfan Says:

Most of Peterson’s big running plays and Cards pass plays over the middle were because Beckwith was out of position or “lost” most of first half- yes he’s a rookie and Cards obviously saw a weakness and took advantage- question is- why did it take Bucs so long to adjust?
Again- Kwon Alexander is key to D…

  20. Defense Rules Says:

Joe you still seem to be exerting great effort to keep everyone focused on LAST Sunday’s game. AP never said one word about the Bucs defense from what I read. It was all about him (‘heavy’ legs … really?). Today’s Friday … let it go. THIS Sunday’s game will tell us much, much more about this Bucs team. How will the players respond to last Sunday’s beatdown? What changes in personnel will the coaching staff make? Will our defensive scheme & tactics change? Will our offensive scheme & play-calling change? Do the fans even still care? And that’s just for starters …

  21. Erik w/ Clean Athletics 'The Kwon Alexander of Bucs fans' Says:

Total lack of intensity and execution by the Bucs…

Possibly a product of a nice cushy weekend of R & R (and maybe some partying) in San Diego in the 2 days leading up to the game????

We’ll never know, but it’s a noteworthy theory.

  22. Lord Cornelius Says:

Cool. We’re currently a top 10 rushing defense through 5 games allowing an avg of 3.7 YPA. But let’s focus on a comment by AP and his legs after our worst rush defense performance because it’s realistic to project the worst performance of the year out to every game for the season.

We also held Jorand Howard / Tarik Cohen to nothing all game. Both younger and more explosive than AP.

    Just sayin.

  23. Joe Says:

Sorry, Joe is not one to bury his head and “let it go.”

AP told the NFL Network that this morning as Joe wrote. If this season spirals, that game will be talked about for years. It could spark job changes. So why should Joe “let it go?”

Joe should write a story each day about this game it was so jarring.

  24. JonBuc Says:

AP looked somewhat slow to me…even Ira mentioned that Joe Lee D. would have averaged 5 yards/carry with the holes AP lumbered through. I would love to see the Next Gen stats on AP’s runs. I predict he won’t rush for 100 yards again in a game this season.

  25. Bobby M. Says:

This team isn’t ready to win yet….still holes to fill and guys to develop. Best thing to do is salvage this season with draft picks and developing chemistry. I would attempt to trade the following: McCoy, Jackson, J. Rodgers, one of our safeties….Possibly Fitzpatrick if Griffin can return.

I know McCoy will be unpopular but McDonald, Baker, Ayers, Golhston are serviceable and frankly the DL is getting gashed with or without McCoy there. He’s a proven commodity that we might snag a top pick with or possibly proven CB. As for Jackson, I think less is more in the huddle for Jameis right now. If we were built to win now, Jackson puts us over the top but we just dont seem even close.

  26. Bucsfanman Says:

@Lord C.- Short-term memory dude! That Az. game just has people raw. This Bills game will give us a better barometer of what this team is going to look like moving forward. If it were me, I’d want to crush the will to live out of whatever comes my way this week, and next, and………
    We’ll find out Sunday!

  27. SOEbuc Says:

Funk GMC. Kwon is our new defensive captain working constantly and producing before he got hurt. Now that he’s gonna be back on the court this week the defense is gonna be fired up. GO BUCS!!!

  28. Mike Johnson Says:

Did’nt the Bucs have a shot at Ap long ago? And turned him down because of surgeries? What a shot across the bow…My legs felt real heavy against the Bucs. And then to pile insult on, The Bills coaching staff said this week, Its not hard to prepare for the Bucs? Man……Low Blows!!

It was neither. Our defense didn’t respect AP and he lit them up. Then, they overcompensated and allowed Fitzgerald and Palmer to play catch the rest of the game. The fact is AP isn’t the AP of old but our defense, most notably, our vomit-inducing defensive scheme is just that bad. I specifically remember myself and DB55 on here not that excited about a return of Mike Smith and Mike Smith has given me no reason to change my stance.

  30. BucsFanaticAZ Says:

We haven’t won in AZ during the Jameis era YET, but lest we all forget on Halloween in 2010 Blount hurdling a Kerry Rhodes on his way down the field to ice the game in the 4th quarter.

I’m hoping our annual humbling on the west coast fine tunes us for the rest of the season.

  31. Joe Says:

Then, they overcompensated and allowed Fitzgerald and Palmer to play catch the rest of the game.

    Ain’t that the truth! 🙁

  32. LakeLand Says:

I’m not buying this BS that Adrian Peterson is a solid RB at his age. What I am buying is that the Bucs has one of the worst D-Line in the NFL.

  33. volbuc2 Says:

@Joe-Joe should write a story each day about this game it was so jarring.

Wow! this game wasn’t that Jarring Joe. Sure we fell apart the first quarter, but you must not be a life long Bucs fan if you think this game was jarring. I have seen a lot worse.

  34. darin Says:

His legs looked heavy. He looked like he was going in slow mo, yet going for long runs. He actually looked like he was quicker in the 2nd half. Thats the main reason i threw up my fruit loops. He looked slow, yet he gashed us over and over. There was no defense in that first half. Throw in the fact dirk threw in the towel and what a disgrace. Every other week we will get effort it appears. This is the week. Go bucs

  35. Mike Johnson Says:

    Spot on there Lakeland!

  36. 44is88 Says:

Yep agree with you Volbuc2. This was a bad game but it was almost the biggest comeback in Bucs history too. Joe just needs something to write about I guess. I loved how he describes a 5 point loss on the road with a backup QB. JARRING! Wow talk about making drama.

  37. yrbndr Says:

@kobe Why aren’t you out of here like you said you would be? You are an embarrassment to anything football related!

  38. Joel Says:

He won’t have a game that good the rest of the season. He played a defense full of individuals who don’t play as a team.
