Buccaneers 25, Giants 23

October 1st, 2017

“I swear I’ll use white-out on the goal line pitch play to Jacquizz Rodgers.”

It was 2017 Bucs football the way we all sort of imagined it to be — except for the Aguayo-like kicking game.

Balanced attack. Spreading the wealth among an arsenal of weapons and a defense that contained the big plays and suffocated the run.

And how about that home field advantage. Six in a row!

It wasn’t pretty today, largely because of two Nick Folk missed field goals, a shanked extra point and Dirk Koetter with ugly playcalling on 1st-and-goal from the 1 yard line. And, as usual, the Bucs had no pass rush.

But the defense was good enough. Rookie Kendell Beckwith was a man in the middle, along with Gerald McCoy. And Brent Grimes returned and played like a Pro Bowler.

America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, did a great job protecting the football, and the receivers had another strong game, while Jacquizz Rogers looked like a No. 1 running back.

What a big sack Dirk Koetter had at the end of the game, basically taking two knees to set up a Folk field goal to win it. Now that was speaking softly and carrying a big mother f’n stick, like Koetter says. If Folk missed that 35 yarder, hell would have broken loose across the Tampa Bay area.

Great game for Jameis….I don’t think any offensive penalties…..solid offensive balance…..

    Still zero pass rush.

  12. Bucs fan #7423 Says:

So happy to be a bucs fan! 😀

  13. Kstoges Says:

Guys I might need open heart surgery LMAO

  14. JohnBoy Says:

Winning ugly in the NFL is still winning.

But, my Lord, the Bucs missed 2 field goals and could not score a TD inside the 2 on 1st and goal. And, where is the pass rush?

Have a feeling they will be 2-2 on Friday.

  15. JonBuc Says:

Gritty. Jamies won in spite of Koetter. Is there a Gramatica nephew or something hanging around town these days.;)

  16. RayJameisStadium Says:

    JOEL
    JOEL
JOEL 6th home win in a row!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Go Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  17. unbelievable Says:

Just think how much easier that game is (and many many others) if we had never gotten rid of Matt Bryant?

Might have been a worse move than Letting Michael Bennet walk..

  18. Jeagan1999 Says:

Great win! Growth for Jameis and the offense!

  19. Gencoimports Says:

Folk was one yard away from being cut.

    Welcome back Doug Martin.

  20. Bucamania Says:

Happy to get a W! Gotta find a way to get pressure on the QB. Grimes came up huge today.

  21. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

Got to bring the ugly babies home from the hospital too

  22. BuccoDav Says:

Great job protecting the ball today, Jameis!

  23. Blackmagic00 Says:

This is a huge win. Idc about them being wiinless. Tthiis win is our 2-1, and beating a team who has had our number for the last decade. We’re better, and we’re building. TAMPA!!!!! Scot, I’m not even from or in TAMPA! GO BUCS!!!!

  24. SteelStudBuc Says:

Much better play today. Jameis was cool n calm today. Thought the defense played well minus the pass rush (yikes). Grimes was lights out.

  25. Gencoimports Says:

Winston is now 6-2 after throwing multiple INTs in the previous game.

  26. Bucs Fan Since '76 Says:

    Win!

  27. AlteredEgo Says:

LOL…Dusthty Rhothdes….I was listening on the radio and bless his passion Gene Deckerhoff ….but geesh….you can never tell what is going to be outcome of his play until it’s over

  28. bucnut2 Says:

    JW was REALLY good!

  29. Roy T. Buford Says:

It was nice to get a win but they (as I predicted):
    – Made new RB Wayne Gallman look like a pro-bowler in his debut.
    – Made NYG look like they have no problems running or passing.
    – Could not get pressure on Manning, even with a twice-shuffled O-Line.
    – Could not defend Manning’s passes (DBs).
    – The lower bowl was full of NYG fans…despite 85% of it being sold as season tix.

Also, they almost lost. It was terrible play. Sadly, Brady is coming in and he never loses two in a row.

The good news is Mike Evans stood up for the anthem like a team captain and American should. So I will resume attending Bucs games.

  30. pit Says:

Does this count towards Winston winning Drives?

  31. Nole4JabooANDdBucs Says:

In the game I was watching Jameis did a whole lot more than protect the ball. Not perfect, but an exciting, heart pounding football game. GO BUCS☠

  32. RayJameisStadium Says:

    117 rushing vs. Chicago
Vicking’s game we had to leave the running game because of the score!!!
    111 rushing today

Joel WE DON’T HAVE A RUSHING PROBLEM!!!!!!!

  33. JohnBoy Says:

It’s at least interesting. This season can still go about any way.

  34. TeddyTB Says:

@unbelievable we definitely should’ve never gotten rid of matt bryant. Honestly game wasn’t even that bad when you factor the injuries, kicking, and refs. The giants had only one flag on offense at the end of the game but we all know that’s bs

  35. Cgmaster Says:

Yes pit and he now has 7 game winning drives despite what some clowns on here think. The Jameis haters will be quite this week and the mariota fans can morn him leaving another game with an injury.

  36. LakeLandBuc Says:

Congrats to the Bucs for beating the giants

  37. Reach87 Says:

Great NFL win against a team that did not mail it in. Where are the rats?
A shot of scotch for those who kept the faith. We will get better. Go Bucs.

  38. LakeLandBuc Says:

But I still say the Bucs go 7-9, that haven’t changed.

  39. gracelivin Says:

This should have been an easy win, the kicking and defense were atrocious but on offence Jamies misses so many opportunities of letting guys run after the catch by not being accurate, so many passes behind the receiver that they must make contorted catches and cannot run. Or he throws into triple coverage with guys wide open. He is a good qb but must clean up his game if we are every going to win championships. Still a win is a win.

  40. orlbucfan Says:

I’ve seen/listened to a lot of weirdo games being a long time/suffering Bucs fan. But how do you pull off a win missing 8, count them!!, 8 ST points??????!!!!!! I have been hollering that it is time for this DK offense to win. I know, NYG stink. So what?! I will be G##############!!!! GO MIGHTY BUCS!!

  41. Bucfanbf Says:

Been getting pounded all day here on the coast from rain and having DirecTv I missed the last three minutes of the game so I had a heart attack for a different reason. Signal is still out damn it…

  42. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

“as usual, the Bucs had no pass rush.” – J0E

You must be blind. There was consistent pass rush, just the sacks didn’t show up. McCoy was a beast today, bad ankle and all. And yet…the sacks were not there. Further proof that he cannot do the work of the entire dline.
Why insult Joe? And yes, the Bucs’ pass rush is poor and inconsistent. –Joe

  43. TeddyTB Says:

Um we most definitely have a rushing problem. The giants aren’t super run stoppers

  44. firethecannons Says:

awesome! Jameis played an excellent game, extremely controlled and dynamic–wow! Very well done by Jameis, defense tried but could not get any pressure on Eli–koetter called a good game, running game was good too! go Bucs!

  45. Cgmaster Says:

I love it when our qb played well against a real good defense with three tds and over 300 yards people still complain. He missed some throws, so did tom Brady and Matt ryan today. Seriously it’s becoming comical.

  46. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

worst OL in football and ZERO sacks, no DL

  47. NCMike Says:

Hey Roy….. 11 rushes for 42 yards and 2 catches for 8 yards doesn’t scream pro bowler by any means. Guess that means Rodgers is a superstar with 16 for 83 yards and 2 catches for 25……. Trolls everywhere

  48. tnew Says:

Great.. Much needed win. Hats off to every player and coach. This was not an easy off week. Now, back to work because this is a short one. Pats will be focused.

  49. Saskbucs Says:

I wouldn’t even say the D was bad except for the pass rush … again.. which makes the whole unit suffer. What a difference Grimes makes! Jameis was good except when targeting DeSean. Missing on deep shots is one thing but throwing behind him time after time on slants and crossing routes 10 yards out is unacceptable and DJax had good reason to be pissed about it. They better get real creative this week scheming on D otherwise Brady is gonna carve them up!

  50. dmatt Says:

No pass rush in three games is embarrassing n not accepted on any level of football. Someone plz tell MEvans to catch the ball n quit pushing off n complaining. Marpet need some snap repetitions. Koetter took a chance on letting folks kick the game winning td. McCoy n Baker clogged up the middle to stop the run n Grimes balled out. No excuses for our injuries cause the giants were hurt as well. Brate is “Great”

  51. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Dusthty Rhothdes Says
    “Worst OL in football”

How many sacks did our offensive line give up?

    Yeah, I thought so.

  52. BucFamous Says:

The Jameis haters can SMD. I am so disappointed that every time we lose we have to read a barrage of TB Times “Jameis is the devil” articles. Its just disrespectful and ignorant…

  53. Mo_Downs Says:

    Good Win.

Perhaps we should check the Florida high school waiver wire for a kicker.

Folk, despite the winning FG should retire now and start a dry cleaning business. He hung the Bucs out to dry and gave a pathetic Giants squad momentum and hope on several occasions. We should have won by 300 points against this team.

Brady, Inc. will not be so generous. Let’s hope most of our wounded will be able to suit-up Thursday. Let’s also hope that Koetter has the good sense to let the wounded rest another week and bring them back close to full speed and ready to contribute the rest of the “16-straight” season.

Offense – Game Ball: Brate, Winston, Mighty Mouse
    Defense – Game Ball: LB’s

BTW, Waaaay to many Marvel series on TV.

    Go Bucs..!!

  54. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Let me clarify something. Other than the botched snaps the offensive line played extremely well.

You cannot blame the oline for the lack of run game. Not today. Blame the plays. Our RB is getting no lead blocking and Dirk had the smallest guy going in on 3rd and short.

That’s not the way to do it.

Get a good lead blocker and a big back, then run up the gut. You’ll get it more times than not.

  55. Bob in Valrico Says:

We got a lot of key plays from almost every receiver and tight end. And one big
running play set thew tone on offense. Its just what we needed, a quick start.
Good effort by the defense to slow Giants down early.
Jameis was in command today. No turnovers, and accurate ,timely connections
    for big plays.

  56. MadMax Says:

Congrats. How much of a role were djacka$$$$and evans involved?

  57. Dreambig Says:

It was an ugly win but it counts. Even those kinds of wins can help build momentum. 2-1 is a lot better than 1-2, particularly since we have to face Brady on Thursday. Hargraves gets a few more days to remember how to play corner.

  58. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

So, as cool as it would be to win against the Pats this Thursday, in a scenario where we don’t, is 2-2 good enough for our first quarter?

    I say yes.

We would have beaten the Phins, which would have put us at 3-1 for the quarter, but everything shifted a week later. We’ll still beat the Phins, just it will be later.

  59. Ocala Says:

Bucs won but that should’ve been a blow out
Mike Smith coached much better but that was a very poorly coached game by
    Coach Koetter.

I’m a fan of his but I thought play calling was not great
He missed challenging a fumble on the Giants final drive and he didn’t trust the Bucs offense to finish the game but instead trusted Nick Folk whom was kicking at 25% accuracy at that point.

  60. DB55 Says:

    Bonzai

    Barely beat an 0-3 team.

  61. Blackmagic00 Says:

Ugly…..I’ll take the win no matter what. Our guys played balls out, against a team who is trying not to go 0-16. We got This! Howard finally got this feet wet and we didn’t implode like years before. Love my team no matter what!!!!!

  62. The Anomaly Says:

    Mesean is worthless

  63. Doctor Stroud Says:

With all of the injuries on defense, the defense played well enough to win. Winning without Kwon Alexander and Lavonte David was huge!

  64. Buc1987 Says:

    Give Brady THAT much time.

  65. Buc1987 Says:

    The Anomaly Says:

    “Mesean is worthless”

Yes let’s go back to Evans getting doubled.

  66. JimBuc2 Says:

Note to Jaboo nutcases: no, he was not the reincarnation of Drew Bledsoe. he was just short of inefficient with all those missed throws. I, for one, am damn tired of singing the praises of a gunslinger who can’t hit his mark. To take a quote from the 2nd Amendment people: Gun control is hitting the target! Knock this spray-the-ball-all-over-your receivers crap out of the game’ plan. Give this over-hyped, emo a F’in calm down pill. For cryin’ out loud; please get the ball to the intended target accurately. Throw your guy open and let him get some YAC. I’m just sick and tired of watching passes thrown high, wide, short, or just damn uncatchable. Want that $100M contract Jameis? Wise up and hit your receiver. No more pregame speaches dude, just complete the damn pass. Rant is now complete, signing off and drinking whiskey ’til I pass out.

  67. orlbucfan Says:

DK is a brilliant OC. He put together this offense. Not sure why he’s got the play-calling heebie-jeebies as a HC. He needs to call games just like he did as OC. This offense is ready. Still can’t get over the curse of Buc Luck, only now it’s the kicking game. Ye football gawds!!

  68. JonBuc Says:

That 3 knees and a kick attempt gave me flashbacks to Dungy in Lambeau circa de 2001. That was literally an extra point length @ 34 yards…and he flirted heavily with the left upright. :0 All’s well that ends well.

  69. NFLNut Says:

    **********************

Dak/Stafford/Wentz averaged 189 passing yards & 1 TD vs. Giants this year – Jameis shredded them for 332 yards and 3 TD’s … I think he also had the highest passer rating against the Giants of any QB in the last 3 years!

    **********************

  70. NFLNut Says:

JimBuc2 … me thinks you already hit the whiskey hard BEFORE you posted your above comment as it’s entirely asinine.

  71. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

It is 8:30 and I am still tense!

  72. Big Stinky Says:

What an ugly game at times but way to protect the football Jameis, much better. Hope he learned from Eli how to keep the game close. Guess he has 7 game-winning drives now. It would have sucked to lose that game after leading 13-0. Way to go Bucs!

  73. Dave Says:

    ROY T BUFORD—— You said—-
    – Made new RB Wayne Gallman look like a pro-bowler in his debut.
    – Made NYG look like they have no problems running or passing.
    ————————

Gallmam was ok but overall the NYG struggled to run. They had 3.3 yards a carry. Take out Eli’s 14 yard scramble for a TD and they averaged 2.85 per carry.

As for the passing, you are correct. Until they get a pass rush, every QB will do good.

    Next years top priorities—
    Pass rush
    Another CB
    MORE O LINE

  74. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

NFLNut – If i were a betting man I would bet the house that JimBuc wanted Mariota and is hoping Jameis fails. Jameis had a solid game but he wont give him any credit ever.

  75. cgmaster Says:

To the trolls like JimBuc who drink too much before posting. Jameis won this game for the bucs. Was every throw perfect? NO. I mean we all know arm chair QB’s such as yourself expect 50-50 but Jameis outclassed every QB that has played the Giants this year. Find something new to get upset about.

  76. cgmaster Says:

Touchdown, yeah you can see the Mariota nut huggers a mile away. Maybe just upset that MAriota is hurt again.

  77. NFLNut Says:

Note to all sensible football fans:

The Bucs have some very ignorant, racist and just plain idiotic fans who have miserable personal lives and like to take out their frustrations on the greatest QB their franchise has ever had.

    That’s all.

  78. LakeLandBuc Says:

    The Bucs are going anywhere..geez

  79. LakeLandBuc Says:

What do it takes for you delusional fans to realize that your team stinks?

  80. daveman Says:

Nice to get a win, but..
For the second time in three weeks Jameis was not the best QB on the field. He will likely have a pretty good long NFL career, but I don’t see elite. He’s just too inconsistent. He really missed a lot of throws to guy who were NFL open. Just a lot of bad throws. He’s got a lot of intangibles to be sure, but he’s about average in the NFL. I’d take Mariotta if we could redraft.

Despite getting a lot of yards, our RBs still look like shiat.

The umpire must have bet the under on holding calls in this game. GMC was being blatantly held much of the game. I think that had a lot to do with lack of pass rush.

  81. Nole4JabooANDdBucs Says:

NFLNUT…you are a voice of reason and oh my gosh…facts…Thank you for the FACTS🤗

the problem when it comes to JW facts go out the window and people want perfection EVERY pass, no matter how many times the “eliteQBs” overthrow, miss or the ball is intercepted.

What we find here HATE TRUMPS FACTS …plain and simple!!!

  82. LakeLandBuc Says:

Fans of Perennial Losers like Bucs, get all excited after beating a WINLESS team. They act like they have won the Super Bowl. This is Pathetic, make the playoffs, then boast. When was the last time this Pathetic Team, made the playoffs? 2007, That’s a damn shame.

  83. NFLNut Says:

Daveman … Jameis is said to have just had the highest passer rating and QBR of any QB that has gone against the Giants in the past 3 years … you sir are idiotic.

And, Jameis is doing what he’s doing at an age where many QBs (Brady, Rodgers, Brees, etc) were HOLDING CLIPBOARDS as backups!

    That’s all.

  84. daveman Says:

NFL Nut. I can’t speak for anybody else, but if your only argument for Jameis is anybody who criticizes him must be a racist you must not have anything rational to add. I think he’s good not great. I think his plus intangibles make up for a lot of his issues. Unless he can be a more consistent accurate passer, he’s not going to get better than this and will remain about average.

  85. Ocala Says:

Dirk calling the toss sweep(slow developing play) on first and goal at the half yard line was the worst play call of the day.
But ultimately who cares the Bucs won.

  86. NFLNut Says:

Aaron Rodgers crossed the 4,000 career passing yards and 25 TD mark at the age of 26 … by the age of 26 Jameis will likely have 26,000+ yards and 170+ TDs …. barring any serious injury Famous Jameis is going to be the Wayne Gretzky of NFL QBs and re-write the record books … and all if you idiotic haters will have missed out on all the good times you could have had by acting like lunatics … I feel sorry for all of you (LakeLandBuc, Daveman, JimBuc2, etc)

  87. NFLNut Says:

DaveMan … go through the archives and read my old posts … I’ve backed up my statements with tons of stats … I don’t care about race but I do think many Jameis-haters are most likely racists …

  88. Buc_The_World Says:

Damn did we win the game or lose the game? I can’t tell by some of you whiney a$$ fans. They only an 0-3 we should have blown them out, they were 0-2 when they played the eagles so I guess the eagles are a bad team too even though the sit at the top of their division 3-1. All you fair weather hating fans weren’t even picking us to win this game. Now after we beat them their team sucks. You guys crack me up. I wish you f**kers would just go away!!!!!

  89. Reach87 Says:

Now we start to see who the real Bucs fans are and who the trolls are. Thanks to the rats for revealing themselves! Go Bucs!

  90. AlteredEgo Says:

    Why am I thinking…
    Bucs =Rays

  91. NFLNut Says:

Daveman … check the archives for my old posts … I backed up tons of my statements with facts … JW is the best & most accomplished QB of his age in the history of football and there isn’t even a close 2nd … keep hating … you’re just making a fool of yourself

  92. AlteredEgo Says:

JW is the best & most accomplished QB of his age in the history of football and there isn’t even a close 2nd”….well until he can place the ball like “the top QB’s”….he is a work in progress….love everything about him other than his Dilfer arm….

  93. Nole4JabooANDdBucs Says:

Don’t believe the hype those drum beaters can’t be fans! Give them hell NFLNUT with facts…they may not want to see or believe it but I love it!

It’s called keeping the haters honest!

  94. JameisDungy Says:

Mike Shula managed to find a way for the Panthers to score 30+ on the Patriots.
Going to have to score 30+ to beat the Patriots.

  95. JimBuc2 Says:

Racist? Really, me thinks thou dost protest too loudly. I stand as a proud Buc fan, since they became a team in 1976. I do NOT judge by color, but by result. Yes, we got a franchise QB, and I’m grateful Jameis is our guy, but, damnit man, I stand by what I’ve written. BTW, the RACIST card plays no more than FAKE NEWS about Russian collusion. Stop watching MSM and give Breitbart a try.

  96. Ed Says:

Very strange game. Bucs came out very physical and offense looked well oiled. As game wore on it seemed like Bucs were wearing down, there was a drop off before halftime and the 3rd quarter they were losing their battles.

I think all the great plays Brent Grimes made when he was one on one vs Odell Beckham inspired the team to pull it out at the end. Cam Brate is playing like a ProBowler and so is Grimes. Because of them we won.

Those 2 players were the difference, Winston made better decisions and three the ball away when he needed to. He makes incredibly difficult throws look easy and easy throws look bad. He’s so up and down but if he can learn how to give his playmakers a chance to make plays he’ll be fine.

Good win when you play a mediocre game and come out with a win.

  97. NFLNut Says:

JimBuc2 … I thought you said you were going to sleep … please do, your comments are asinine.

How about this … name me ONE, just ONE quarterback in the history of football that has accomplished what JW does at his current age … I can wait for months as you can’t name even one because NO ONE has ever been as accomplished as Jameis at Jameis’ current age. That is a fact.

If you’re hating on Jameis you would have been killing Rodgers, Favre, Brading, Peyton “100 INTs in 5 years” Manning, etc … you’re just a hater and on top of that your posts are boring to read, so please, by all means, go to sleep and try to wake up smarter …

  98. NFLNut Says:

    @NFLNUT
Please review Minnesota game tape, then pontificate. I don’t give a rat’s a$s about stats. I’ll take a well executed pass over a stat lines any day. Got something else to say?

  101. Buc_Lightning Says:

So how was Jameis not the best QB in the game today?
Lets see he had more yards, more Td’s oh and the win! Haters gonna hate, but it makes you look stupid!

    Passing CP/AT YDS TD INT
    J. Winston 22/38 332 3 0
    E. Manning 30/49 288 2 0

  102. unbelievable Says:

Roy T Buford sat here all week telling us how he was selling his season tickets to Giants fans, and then comes on here b!tching about how many Giants fans were in the season tickets sections of the lower bowl.

    Unreal.

  103. FortMyersDave Says:

Unbelievable: Roy T seems almost unhappy that the Bucs won and seems pleased that RJS was “full of Giant fans” if you read his post on this thread. I get boycotting the NFL but he seems to be on a crusade to hope and pray that no one but the opposition goes to Buc games, heck he probably would not sell his $250 club seats to fellow Buc fans as that would mute his protest, instead he unloads them to Giant fans and then brags about the money he made. Well, I am guessing that the bean counters at RJS are going to note if any specific seats are simply being sold to opposing fans for each game ala last season and simply not let the owner renew those seats next season….. Guy says he likes the Bucs butI have my doubts…. He almost as bad about trolling the winning club as that Lakeland poster who was guaranteeing a L all week and now simply says, oh, the Bucs will lose next week……

  104. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

Hey JimBuc, if you want to see a well executed pass why don’t you pull up his pass to Brate with 40 seconds on the clock to win the f***ing game yesterday. Don’t be such a troll.
