Bills 30, Buccaneers 27

October 22nd, 2017

Can anyone tackle or cover out there?”

Joe will keep this extra real. Finally, finally, finally, your Buccaneers showed up to play with a big pair of balls for a road game against a hard-hitting and motivated football team.

And it didn’t freakin’ matter.

Your Buccaneers’ defense is such hot garbage right now, they just let a rotten Bills offense bury them. (Anyone see Arizona get clobbered by the Rams today?)

Nice job allowing 434 yards to the Buffalo Bills. Buffalo!!

America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, grabbed his team and played a hell of a spirited and strong game against a defense that had largely stymied every team it faced this season. Jameis finished 32-of-44 for 384 yards, three touchdowns and one interception. Not bad for a bruised shoulder and a garbage running game.

The balanced attack with DeSean Jackson, Mike Evans, Cameron Brate and O.J. Howard, saw them catching five or more passes each. That’s the #WeaponsForWinston attack Bucs fans pined for all offseason at work, but it didn’t matter a lick.

The Bucs’ defense was its 2017 sloppy and porous self. They squandered a dominant play by Lavonte David, a Derrick-Brooks-want-to strip and recovery, which turned the game completely in their direction in the fourth quarter.

Adam Humphries fumbled after that and the Bucs couldn’t tackle or cover and contain Tyrod Taylor to save their souls.

What a sorry, sorry team the Bucs are right now. Shameful.

This is a badly coached team with a losing mentality. They act like they don’t even care if they win or lose.

    That fumble though……

  7. Kevo Says:

    Time for Jon gruden

  8. Season Is Over Says:

Gerald McCoy absolute no-show. He wasn’t double-teamed hardly all game. Loss is on him and his inability to be a factor at all.

  9. Blake_Bucsfan Says:

    Mike Smith effing sucks.

  10. NJBucsFan Says:

We need to purge this team of all Smiths. Mike Smith can’t coach and Donavan Smith can’t pass block.

  19. Rojas Says:

Only person who played good on defense was LVD.. no one else showed up.

  20. D-Rome Says:

Meanwhile, the mouth breathers around here are confident in Dirk Koetter and Jason Licht.

Hope you guys enjoy being the worst team in the NFC South again.

    Top 5-8 pick in the 2018 draft….

Im guessing Barkley 1st, Eric Dungey 2nd….all D the rest.

  23. Rob Says:

    1. We just weren’t ready to play today
    2. I have to do a better job of coaching. It’s on me.
    3. We just need to execute our gameplan better.
    4. They didn’t beat us, we beat ourselves.
    5. We just need to believe we can win. Some guys haven’t bought in yet.

  24. Dean Boring Says:

Jameis play a great game as did our receivers. How can our secondary be this bad? And we were so glad that Smith decided to stay?

  25. Mike Johnson Says:

There are no moral victories in this NFL. You are what your record says you are. 2-4 means…YOU SUCK!!

  26. denjoe Says:

The bills have the 31st ranked offense and a first year coach! FIRE LICHT!!!! He’s a joke! that will send message to dirk and fire smith too soft.

  27. Ocala Says:

Fire Dirk Koetter and Mike Smith

    They are awful.

This team should have one of the best records in the NFL
    But instead they suck.

  28. westernbuc Says:

As atrocious as the Bucs defense was, they didn’t let the Bills score off of Jameis’s two turnovers. Report the facts

  29. BucsFan90 Says:

Cut Humphries! Another overrated hypejob turned bust

  30. dexterOHMAN Says:

Tank seasonnnnn atleast the draft is only in 6 months

  31. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Dave Says
“This is a badly coached team with a losing mentality. They act like they don’t even care if they win or lose.”

Offense wants to win. Not enough on the defense wants to wim…but what do you expect? It’s filled with aging free agents.

  32. Buc believer Says:

I am DONE F..ing caring!! I have better things to do with my time and money!

  33. mark2001 Says:

    Call Gruden…. precisely.

  34. ChanEpic Says:

We don’t know how to tackle. It’s just that simple.

  35. Blake_Bucsfan Says:

Honestly not sure what was worse tho.

The defense giving up a touchdown 45 seconds after we finally retook the lead.

    Humphries fumble.

Or the 5 missed tackles that gave the Bills a first down when we absolutely had to stop them.

    Probably all 3 are tied.

This defense is soft. And this whole team is snake bitten.

  36. Rossta Says:

Mike Smith needs to go along with Defence! I’m sick of losing year after year

  37. unbelievable Says:

    Koetter called a great game.

Offense failed to execute multiple times.

    Defense was just horrendous.

    See you guys next week

  38. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    @BucsFan90

    You are an idiot, lol.

  39. NJBucsFan Says:

BucsFan90. Saying it on multiple posts won’t make it true

  40. Dirty Bucs Says:

Bucs still have a losing culture. Losing mentality. I don’t know how they get rid of it, but it’s so frustrating to watch.

  41. Q Says:

Time to fire mike Smith…..and trade these non tackling overrated players….once again our defensive line could not stop the run ….thank you baker and GMC…missed tackles…thank you mcclain grimes and VH3 ….the defense is our down fall…and it starts with the coaches …and then the captains “GMC” ….overhaul this garbage ass defense top to bottom along with McCoy big ass contract

  42. Lamarcus Says:

    Cancer 93?

  43. Blade Runner Says:

After we finish 5-11 or 6-10, I think with the exception of our LB’s: David, Alexander, and Beckwith, this whole defense needs to be gutted and replaced! I’m including McCoy as well, I get tired of seeing him moping around everytime the Bucs fall behind during games! The whole defensive line sucks! Secondary isn’t much better 🙁 we need playmakers and leaders that make big plays in crunch time like Sapp, Lynch, and Rice used to make when we were contenders!

  44. Patrick Says:

I NEVER bought the hype this team received in the offseason. Never did. But honestly, I thought we’d have a better record than 2-4 right now!

  45. dirkdiggler Says:

we all knew beginning of the year that the defense wasnt going to be good. Shame on coaches and GM for not doing more about it. they had 8 faking months to work it out. yikes.

  46. Born again Bucs fan Says:

FIRE THIS WHOLE COACHING STAFF IMMEDIATELY. THE WAY THIS GAME ENDED IS ABSOLUTELY INEXCUSABLE. DO NOT LET MIKE SMITH ON THE PLANE BACK. THIS DEFENSE IS SORRY AF!!!!

    SINCERELY,
    ONE P*SSED OFF FAN

  47. Ocala Says:

    Jameis played outstanding
bills had the #1 scoring defense in the NFL

Unfortunately the Bucs have the worst defense in the NFL

  48. Tb601 Says:

Really could have kick a darn field goal .But no we punted

  49. tmaxcon Says:

slow down people don’t worry. I am sure CANCER93 has an excuse for you guys….he will make it all better and give you talking points for yet another pathetic defensive performance by a Cancer93 captained team. you can’t overcome the losing culture when the leader of the losing culture is wearing a C

  50. Rob Says:

I don’t care about Jameis “loser” Winston’s stats either. If we could have scored touchdowns instead of stupid field goals in the first half, we would have won this game. Excuses excuses. all this suck a$$ team has is excuses. Now we have lost twice as many games as we have won. That means you suck. Cellar dwellers again. Thanks God for the Lightning. That is a team with heart and skill

  51. Cometowin2 Says:

Another sh!t a$$ season. Defense sucks!!! Even Kwon was invisible. Fire everyone!!!

  52. Rico Says:

Pure trash. Another wasted Sunday afternoon watching these losers.

  53. mike10 Says:

2-4, three straight losses and basement of the division. How did it come to this?

  54. Bucsfan107 Says:

Winston not getting a groove until the second half shoots us in the foot by the second half our defense is winded and beaten up with nothing to show for any of it because the offense won’t just go score a td when they can stop teams. A joke we need an overhaul starting with qb and hc.

  55. JonBuc Says:

Time for the token Rudy The Cutie Humpleg to clean out his locker. He is no longer feel-good.

  56. Buc813 Says:

How can we regress this badly on defense? I can’t with this team 434 yards to the bills? We’re a joke right now

  57. g720 Says:

Koetter had a decent offensive game but the reason he needs to be fired is because he won’t get rid of Smith.

  58. Greg Says:

Very happy with the offense outside of the turnovers, but something needs to be done about this defense

  59. Blake_Bucsfan Says:

    @Rob

I understand you are angry. But blaming this loss on Jameis is just stupid and misguided.

Bills are the best defense in the league right now.

  60. Ndog Says:

People will blame coaching but when the players can’t tackle or due their jobs in coverage what ate you supposed to do? I mean they missed about 40 tackles and blew at least coverages.

  61. BUC_40 Says:

Move on from Mike Smith….Go get REX RYAN and have him run a real defense!

  62. Mike Johnson Says:

ALL ABOARD!! The GRUDEN express is gathereing steam like a bullet train. Gruden as HC and father Dungy as DC. ALL ABOARD!!

  63. Lamarcus Says:

Also note. Jw will never have a decent development study w that defense

  64. Tb601 Says:

Idk tired of this team not living up to the hype.

  65. Rojas Says:

Lol some people blaming this lost on Jameis. That’s funny.

  66. gotbbucs Says:

Every single year they design this defense around the notion thMcCoy will be the X-factor on defense and set the tone….and every year many of us say that it’s a bad idea.

He needs to go for this team to truly change the identiof this defense. He is not an effective 3-tech, which is absolutely what you need if you want to sit in a one-gap four front base defense. Move on already, Jesus..

  67. Rojas Says:

    Loss*

  68. D-Rome Says:

What name will the Stick Carriers use moving forward?

  69. mark2001 Says:

Blake…please…not “snake bitten”. We could have also lost that Giants game. We have only had one game that we won convincingly this year…and that was by the Mike Glennon lead Bears. Thank God they didn’t make the QB change earlier or we didn’t play them later in the season….or we might not have beaten them.

  70. Bighck61 Says:

Thank god for the USF BULLS 7-0 GOOOO BULLS

  71. DB55 Says:

Jaime is Winston was 70% to Evans. 100% to O.J., Rodgers and Goodwin. 66 to Brate, Martin, hump and sims. And 62% to Djax. Hmmmm

  72. Zhills Says:

Worst defense in the league. Something needs to change if they want fans to keep supporting the team.

  73. Capt.Tim Says:

No pass rush- you cant win in the NFL

  74. mike10 Says:

Rob agreed. I do not enjoy watchin Winston play, stats aside, I feel like I have to wait a half of football to watch him actually do anything. I’m so sick of his inaccuracy downfield and odd decision making.

  75. dmatt Says:

The Bucs had fair gain to get a pass rusher but as koetter said, they’ll play with what they have. Spence doesn’t have the strength to play de, he continues to get thrown all over the place, Gholston moves like a big peace of lead/robot. Let’s b real we only have linebackers, that’s not a full defense. Also koetter was out coached. He’s full of Lovie with his conservative decisions by taking a field goal over a chance for a td in the red zone.

  76. mark2001 Says:

Blake…please…not “snake bitten”. We could have also lost that Giants game. We have only had one game that we won convincingly this year…and that was by the Mike Glennon lead Bears. Thank goodness they didn’t make the QB change earlier or we didn’t play them later in the season….or we might not have beaten them.

  77. bucsnorth Says:

I used to be a fan of koetter thinking he had it in him to be a good coach. Not anymore. Some people are meant to be assistants because they cant handle all the responsibilities of the top dog. Koetter definetely cant handle it. From poor clock management to horrible play calling. Might be a nice guy and all but horrible coach. Ya I’d say give John Grudden a call. How many times this year after a loss have we heard “we need to get better” “this loss is on me”. That dont make it right or acceptable. Worst part is I could accept these losses if we showed noticable improvement but we’ve gotten worse.

  78. B Coburn Says:

Good teams find way to win and bad teams find ways to lose… just like ours

  79. Buccaneer Bill Says:

@Buccaneer Bonzai I will also be avoiding this site. I don’t know more than the coaches, and I can’t read tea leaves. I will be watching the Bucs next week, no matter what is written here.

  80. Cometowin2 Says:

Lets’ start talking draft and new coaching staff. This season is done. Good news is losses from this point forward are actually better for the team and cease to hurt.

Bucs obviously don’t care this year so I don’t either.

  81. Rob Says:

This succaneer team will not recover from this one. Free fall from here on out and get ready for a top five pick in next year’s draft. And to think we were talking playoffs. What a f ing jock of a suck a$$ team we are. to crap the bed after taking the lead is unexcusable. Someone should get fired over this one. Mike Smith can’t make the tackles but he coaches these bafoons

  82. Ndog Says:

Did G McCoy play today? I saw Ayers, Spence, Goldson and Baker!

  83. tmaxcon Says:

jameis is not the reason two struggling back to back weeks had career games. Jameis did his JOB against the number 1 scoring defense in NFL…. The denfense plays with NO heart or passion. They simply can not overcome the mopping cancer93 and his love of losing.

if gmc was HALF the men you nuthuggers think he is he would walk up to Koetter after the game and turn his C in… This team will never ever take the next step until the face of the basement years and his losing ways are polluting some other locker room.

  84. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Mike Smith is working with what he has. Mostly aging free agents, outside of a few spots.

  85. Zhills Says:

When will the defense offense and special teams all show up to play st the same time

  86. tval Says:

    I feel for any Florida st/bus fan..those defenses..lol…what a joke

  87. Cometowin2 Says:

I will watch every game but at least it won’t hurt as much when they inevitably lay down.

  88. Bucn' Enough Says:

    Joe,

You were spot on when you said that we should have hired Jim Schwartz instead of Mike Smith for DC.

This team NEVER blitzes and we do not have the talent along the line to compete.
Thanks ( LICHT my balls ) for drafting a kicker, in the second round last year, a worthless running back in danc’n shoes Simms and ASJackwagon.

Hell you can even say we should not have drafted Godwin this year…they should have drafted or tossed more money at the D-Line.

Also, one of the posters mentioned enough is enough, trade McCoy already and and maybe even LVD, get some more draft choices…maybe hopefully for a new GM.

  89. Brad Isherwood Says:

It’s over for Koetter /Rand Paul channel Aqua Buhhda and Mike Smith.

    Atlanta dumped both of them…..Cuz they can’t, can’t, can’t, ….make adjustments during a game!

Heavy sigh. …..In know all of you hope our Bucs can overcome,….
The problem is coaching, consistency and Heart.

Fitzpatrick could better coach JW on read defence and throw.

  90. D-Rome Says:

People will blame coaching but when the players can’t tackle or due their jobs in coverage what ate you supposed to do? I mean they missed about 40 tackles and blew at least coverages.

That excuse wasn’t good enough for Lovie Smith. It shouldn’t be used for Mike Smith either.

  91. Lamarcus Says:

    Gmc is garbage

  92. BUC_40 Says:

    “Cough”….. REX RYAN FOR DC……”Cough”.

  93. Defense Rules Says:

That’s it Joe, praise praise praise for the offense (except for Doug Martin of course) and then beat down the defense. No question in my mind now that this team won’t be going anyplace this year, but for the personnel this team has on defense, they did quite a bit better than they did last week. The 3 turnovers by the offense IMO is what really cost us the game. And Martin may have only gotten 49 yds on 20 carries, but guess what … based on the way our OLine was run blocking, I’m surprised that he got any. Also good to see Jameis use the short passing game for a change (it was really quite effective). Congrats BTW to OJ … glad they finally decided he can do something else besides block.

  94. James Walker Says:

The Bucs need to gut the defensive line and the defensive backs. Next year perhaps we can make a run.

  95. Ocala Says:

    Jameis played incredible
I can’t stand idiotic fans that post on here that no matter what blame the QB

    Obviously the defense is awful
And that is why the Bucs lost.

Bucs still have looser mentality with Koetter.
Koetter was hired by Lovie and Lovie is a looser.

  96. bucfan999 Says:

I have 6 words for all of you……..

    DEFENSE TOTALLY SUCKS!!!!!!

    FIRE MIKE SMITH

  97. Brooks55hof Says:

How can we get excited to watch this crap show week after week, year after year. I’m done spending my money and gas and tolls and food money on this horrific franchise. Just feed us a crumb, throw is a bone and show some improvement. It’s not happening. 5-11

  98. tmaxcon Says:

maybe a new batman doll was released and she was distracted again.

  99. Lamarcus Says:

Whoever blames jw is trash. Jw carried this team. As he been doing since he been here.

  100. HooliganSixx Says:

This reminds me of the Sam Wyche era Bucs. Time to bring back Jon Gruden in 2018! Right the wrong of letting Jon go. Go Bucs!

  101. Broy34isNowonTheSideOf theComplainers. Bye Koetter Says:

I’m done with this team I’m done with this website. IDGAF if they win five straight or 8 straight because they will lose out with the playoffs on the line. On second thought I wanna stick around and soak in the negativity. I’m officially on board with trading gerakd even though it won’t happen. I’m sick of no running game and sick of no pass rush. I’m sick of rooting for a team and putting my heart and soul into this piece of garbage product. To the fans who can clap and say good job we fought i salute you. I’m 26 and tired. Exhausted of reading bcus articles and comments filled with negativity and defending this team. What I saw occur within 45 seconds is absolutely positively inexcusable. To Lee who predicted them to lose I must say you look stupid and smart at the same time. For this team to not draft a running back or defensive end in that last draft is absolutely inexcusable. I’m done rooting for a team I could run better than the millionaires in charge of it. The locker room will be lost and they will get curb stomped on out of their own stadium. The boo’s will begin and the coaching search as well. Punt it twice from the fourty on 4th and mid to short is ridiculous. You need a win in the worst way. I can say this – I’m glad the worst has happened because now I can honestly say I don’t care anymore. I can now watch next week’s game and laugh without being nervous or pacing. My brother wonders why im so pessimistic idk maybe because I’ve seen one too many of these games. Until Koetter and Mike Smith are out of town I won’t actually cheer for this team again. I swear on everything I hold sacred this isn’t me being in the moment. This is me being officially and completely over it and checked out.

  102. B Coburn Says:

Mike smith has some talent…. yeah the dline sucks… corners have issues.. although some of that is talent and some, coaching… there are defences with less Talent that aren’t the worst in the league

  103. HooliganSixx Says:

    Ocala it is loser.

  104. bucfan999 Says:

I’m mostly happy with the offense, Winston, Evans, Jackson, Brate, Howard & Humphries (1’st bad play by a pretty reliable player) have all played good. Running game is still mostly non-existent, offense line is descent but not great. But the defense totally let me down this year. No pass rush at all, secondary can’t stop anyone and they give up a score today after we get the lead in what 36 seconds…….MY GOD THEY STINK.

  105. Ed Says:

What a disappointment to all TB fans that had optimism with the addition of Howard and Jackson this year but clearly every week now the weakness of our game plan and soft defense that has no idea what they are doing has doomed the season.

There was tremendous pressure on the Bucs to win today. Losing wasn’t an option as the front office shakeup is coming. Jason Licht put this team together and its Koetter and Smith’s coaching that is getting less out of their players than last season.

How many more times do the Bucs allow mediocre quarterbacks to make big plays with games on the line?

I can’t believe that these players cannot tackle or force below average quarterbacks into making mistakes.

Everyone knows what the Bills were going to do and our coordinator never got his outside guys to force Taylor to stay in the pocket. Those huge gains to Thompson were because they let Taylor get out on the perimeter and just lob the ball to an uncovered target.

We have some really good players on a lousy team. Mr. Licht really blew the season up by putting faith in McCoy and Ayers and J Smith and not bringing in pass rushers and by the way can’t stop the run either.

It sucks to be a Bucs fan now.

  106. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Keep the coaches and GM.

Get Mike Smith some real talent.

Acquire picks in the coming draft.

  107. Rayjay1122 Says:

The defence cost us again. They are soft and can’t tackle. Winston was not to blame.

  108. orlbucfan Says:

Were the Bills ever called for holding? I listened to it on radio, and there was a boatload of holding going on. Still, the offense and DK are finally getting on the same page. I have never been sold on Mike Smith, but it’s the offense that I’m waiting on to fully mature. Plus, WE HAVE A KICKER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It almost happened. DK and his offense are getting on the same page. Reason for hope!! Go Bucs!!

  109. JameisDungy Says:

Can someone please help me understand.

You fire Lovie (which I was ok with) to make Dirk Koetter HC simply because he did above average on a 6-10 team? Really?

The Bucs should have went OUTSIDE of someone Lovie hired. Such a shortsighted move from Licht. Ironically it was Mike Smith’s defense that saved our ass last year and not Dirk’s offense.

Offense played well today, but if you’re going to go with an Offensive minded HC go OUTSIDE of the coach you just fired!!!

  110. kgh4life Says:

The Bucs are 2-4, i know it sucks, however, they just can’t fire coaches every two years, its not how you build a winning program. Just ask the Browns. I would bring koetter back but they have to draft defensively next year and bring in some defensive talent through free agency.

  111. Q Says:

This is not the offenses fault…we are 2-4 because of the defense

  112. Adam Wade Says:

    Ocala…. learn how to spell.

  113. Eric Says:

Not over yet, we can still have a run. Haven’t faced division foes yet. Although no telling what Brees will do to us.

On the positive side the Panthers looked horrific today.

  114. Bills30 Says:

Team is done. Time for a new coach. Play calling sucks. Execution of any plays suck. Defense sucks. Team sucks. Im done with this team. I guess i will be a Rams or Chargers fan from here in out. I’m done with this team.

  115. TrollSlayer Says:

    #bringgrudenback

  116. dis Says:

Rob. Are you Tampa Tony? Just wondering. Anyway, Jameis won’t let this team fall apart. We are gonna need a run, but it’s still possible. Let’s go Pats tonight!

  117. Broy34isNowonTheSideOf theComplainers. Bye Koetter Says:

Lamarcus I whole heartedly agree. I am beyond furious but one thing I will do is not blame the one man who cares and puts every thing he has into it. He’s not perfect but played a great game only to let the putrid lazy pathetic defense and adam “Rudy is a better player than me” humphries choke the game away. Absymal playcalling defensively all game long. Hargreaves shows up and nobody else can cover go figure. Offense shows up and nobody can drop them go figure. Licht thanks for the guys you have drafted time to leave now. Glazers are having a family meeting to find a new gm and a new coach. Never have I said we shouldn’t resign licht but he had three holes to fill- offensive weapons and dline and running back. His solution was to sink a 5th round pick into the running back. What an absolute moron. Should’ve drafted a running back and two d ends. Imsick of watching people have all day to throw and watching our gm bank on mediocre veterans. Corner isn’t a worry if Grimes is back and Hargreaves keeps pressing but d end is so bad it’s frightening. Noah is a lost cause unless he goes on a mcdonalds diet and gains 39 pounds and while Doug did what he could you need more. Run blocking is absolutely atrocious. Swing Donovan to right tackle and find a real tackle. But oh wait we r the bucs and we’ll probably draft a linebacker or safety.

  118. Jim Says:

Luckily, able to watch it all from here in Costa Rica. The Bucs deserved to win, but lost to a sloppy Bills team that left six points on the field in the first half. The Bucs actually executed well, but somehow everyone forgets what that means: #weapons4winston gave the Bills fits the entire game. They couldn’t cover all the receivers, period. But #weapons4winston also means little if anything for the defense. Bucs lose.

  119. AlteredEgo Says:

    enother enabling storee

  120. Rrsrq Says:

Can’t blame Jameis for starting slow, got down the field, but two penalties, hands to the face by Marpet and false start, moved them back. Yeah, should’ve had 7 but can’t hurt yourself, this is on a porous defense. McCoy not touched til in the secondary, Tyrod does that to everybody as far as not getting hit cleanly, but wide open receivers, ridiculous, is that players or scheme. Bring back Tandy.

Maybe next year.. Hope they get a good draft pick maybe number 1 the way they are all playing and we can finally get some dudes that can rush the qb.

  127. jb Says:

Ya wonder how much time these guys work on as something as simple as tackling.
Every single one of the so called “STUDS” we have on defense were whiffing on tackles, and is there even one single player that can cover? We have virtually no defensive line….NONE! Other than Howard breaking out there’s nothing positive to take away from this game…..AGAIN!
Although it looks like we may finally have a kicker. But I’m sure the mediocrity that is One Buc Place will start rubbing off on him and we’ll start our next search for a kicker……and a corner, and a safety, and just about every other position. The Buccaneers may find themselves with a class action lawsuit for lacing all that kool aid they fed fans since last season with high grade LSD. I’ll admit….I drank more than I should’ve……..but they never told me it was laced with hallucinogenic drugs!!!

  128. Swanee Says:

The Bucs are now a 9 percent chance to make the playoffs . So the season statically is done . Should not spend anymore time and money on supporting this team. The talent was overrated by several AM local talk radio personal. As I said before time and time again our scouting employees do a poor job in advising the GM during the draft. Especially selecting defensive players. A change in this department would make a difference in the 2018 draft . Realistically they will finish the season in December at 6-10 record. Should get a numbers 7 overall secondary or defensive line draft pick.

  129. Bob in Valrico Says:

A lot of things contributed to this loss. We definitely have to tackle better
defensively. Jameis had his best half of football but that was it. But fumble and an INT hurt us early .Easily could have been 3 INt’s,Both jackson and Evans prevented INT’s .Jameis needs to take them out for steaks.
Koetter called a good game but shaky decisions in first half hurt us by Jameis.
He proved in the second half that we have the potential to play well offensively.
Great to get OJ in the game and unwrapped. Djax showed he is willing to what in takes in the intermediate game. That takeaway from the defender was exceptional.
Hump’s fumble was only one of series of mistakes that hurt us. Donnavan Smith also had a couple of mistakes.

I hate rooting for a team that just disappoints you. I hope each player looks themselves in the mirror and admit how bad they are. The coaches need to do the same. Weak offense and defense calls. In a year where people, like myself, are disgusted with the NFL as a whole when these slap millionaire players kneel for our flag and anthem; I can’t even stand to watch my terrible team. Good bye NFL forever. Thank God it’s Hockey season.

This team woke up today I know we lost but this was the #1 ranked defense in the league! Yes we lost but we learned how to use Howard who went 6 for 98 yards JW through for 400 yards! Wake the future is bright we will win the next 3 games!!

  137. dis Says:

This is the NFL. Usually comes down to one or two plays. Today’s play was the Humphries fumble. Game was tied. Didn’t matter what happened before that. And 2-4 doesn’t matter. We are two games out of first place and we play every team ahead of us twice.

We went on a run last year. We can do it again this year.

Please don’t act like this season is over until the fat lady sings.

In a repeat of last week two punts well inside the must go zone, 4th and 7 at the opponent’s 37 and 4th and 4 at the opponent’s 40 when your QB is ballin’ and your defense is terrible. You only get so many chances to score when your defense is bad. Both punts were touchbacks for net 18.5 average.

    Ya Mon,

    Go Bucs..!!

  141. Tony from Los Angeles Says:

I agree with all the posters above that want to fire Koetter and Smith!!

Constantly changing coaches every two years has worked out wonderfully for the Bucs and all NFL franchises that continue to do this. Everyone knows the best teams throw away their coaches and GMs constantly in a revolving style of hire/fire that always leads to rings.

PLUS – young players do SOOO much better when they have to learn completely new systems every two years.

Fire them all!! Brilliant idea guys!!

  142. Bob in Valrico Says:

Steve great website but I will no longer follow this pathetic franchise and your website!

  145. Defense Rules Says:

Bob in Valrico, I was beginning to wonder if I watched the same game as everyone else. Saw pretty much the same things that you did it turns out. Plus … Tyrod Taylor’s rushing yardage (6 runs – 53 yds) really confused me. We know he’s a very mobile QB, so why didn’t we have a ‘spy’ on him the whole game to limit that? And almost all of the Bills best runs were either up the gut (where’s our MLB?) or around the outside (what ever happened to ‘containment’ by our DEs?). Beyond frustrating to watch that … those have always been Bucs’ strengths (until this year apparently). Will Gholston has always been one of my favorite Bucs players, but he seems to have just disappeared this year (previous years he was among the best in the league at containment IMO). Agree with you that play-calling was quite good (especially more use of the short passing game … it apparently worked because our TOP was over 33 mins for a change). Unfortunately this defense doesn’t have nearly as much talent as many fans think they do IMO. Licht needs to rethink a LOT of things on that side of the ball this next off-season. BTW, if you noticed, Chris Conte was all over the field today. VHIII played better, but I’m still quite unimpressed with his overall play on the outside.

    MY TAKE-A-WAYS:

    1. Jameis is a future first ballot HOF’er, period. The guy is now on pace for 4,807 yards passing, 30 TD’s and 12 picks … and the kid played an amazing game today with a shoulder injury …

    2. The defense, the entire defense, SUCKS

    3. We need to switch to a 3-4 next year … Gholston/GMC/Baker – David/Kwon/Beckwith/Spence – that should give us much more team speed and a much better ability to get to the QB

    4. VH had a nice bounce back game and played pretty well but we need to draft and/or sign at least TWO new CBs as Grimes is old & Hargreaves is still unproven and there is no real depth behind them

    5. OJ Howard is a legit WEAPON … I hope Koetter keeps using him!

    6. If we lose at home to Carolina next week, we will not make the playoffs, period.

    7. Take the long-term view on this team for as long as JW/Mike/Brate/OJ stay together this team will have a chance to win rings *IF* Tampa can field even an “average” defense!

    ********************

  147. Chris Says:

Oh, by the way, the Cardinals were shut out 33-0 by the Rams. And Peterson had like 20 yrds.

raise your standards. supporting a career loser and locker cancer is no way to win a superbowl… you either win or lose but I am assuming you are one of the losers who would be happy with year and year out 0-16 seasons as long as they had a team full of underachieving choirboys playing a conservative zone system led by some loser hypocrite from the dungy coaching shrub.

Mike Smith is working with what he has. Mostly aging free agents, outside of a few spots.
    I don’t know….
There are 5 borderline or actual Pro Bowlers on this team. Mccoy, David, Alexander, Grimes and Ward.
Stop making excuses for them. 5 out of 11 top tier players and we stink. Another rookie who is leading the league in tackles for all rookies in Beckwith…. Blame the coaches, blame the scheme, but at some point these guys need to play to their paygrade. I am sick watching this defense. A week after taking off the first quarter we decide to zone out with 3 minutes to go…Something has to change.

  151. Eric Says:

And the most ridiculous comment on this board goes to……First ballot HOF nut juggler NFL Nut Job! You are a complete moron dude! First ballot HOF my balls, I’m firmly convinced your last name is Winston.
Once again ANOTHER slow start for Winston, more inaccurate deep balls ( except for Jameis’s left testicle rammed deep down you throat). Another INT should have been 2 more but our Wr’s are bailing him out cuz they are so used to his inaccurate throws. I say we should try them out at corner, they defend more balls than our corners! And of course the horrible fumble trying to run when he should just throw it away.
Kicking field goals in the 1st half instead of throwing TD’S will always come back to get us. This guy is so over hyped it’s sickening. I keep hearing about his leadership all the time but all I see is him leading us to another losing season.

  152. Eric Says:

Freeman was twice the player Winston is. Imagine if he had half the weapons this bum has at his disposal. I doubt he even matches his 10-6 record. We should have drafted Deshaun Watson…smh. Stop blaming the coaching staff and assign the blame to the players. At least these coaches have had winning records where Jameis has a losing record as an NFL quarterback. Forget all the stats cuz we all know those are for losers except for wins and losses.
    #weapons for loser

  153. Bob in Valrico Says:

    @ defense
Gholston has gotten more attention lately. Last game I noticed three people blocking him on one play. Can’t say if this happened in this game . But on one of Tyrod’s runs they only had three downlineman. McCoy in the middle and huge gaps on either of him. McCoy was redirected when he tried to rush and there almost noone home after that. Conte is a hard nosed playerthat i respect.
I just thought Tandy and Hargreaves were better at communication last year
    and created some big plays.
Another point on the passing game ,a little more of an angle on the go route to DJAX for Jameis to connect. A post route to Evans and as you mentioned using OJ over the middle and finally a great rollout completion by Jameis
to OJ. Make the middle of the field our friend.

  156. Not there yet Says:

Not upset or surprised at this point. The expectation is not too expect anything of this team so that if they deliver you’ll be extremely excited. This is the bucs life we all know and doesn’t seem to matter who the coaches are certain players just won’t lift this team up to the next level.

We know the defense is bad but what I’m trying to figure is why this team offensive success is so erratic. Our defense is actually worse than the saints and the head coach can’t seem to score as easy as bills did on the last drive. Sometimes with all that talent it should be easy to drive down the field. We shouldn’t need to really on long drive every single score we get

    LOON

Mark my words, barring any serious injury, Jameis Winston will retire as the NFL’s all-time leader in passing yards and TDs and will be considered a top 10 QB even without a ring (ala Marino), and if he wins just one ring, a top 6 QB and if he wins 2 rings, a top 4 QB (with Brady, Montana and Manning)

JW’s post game pressers sound like a broken record…..we “gotta” get better. Well, I know enough dumb rednecks to know that when they use “gotta” it means they have already internally accepted that they cannot get any better.

  165. Jimmy T Says:

Hey Rob, Jameis “loser”? What game did u watch, Jameis wasn’t the idiot on On the first drive of the game that face masked the defense. That 15 yard penalty went to Ali Marpet. Jameis didn’t snap the ball at his ankles on the 2nd drive , that was Marpet again. 2 fg’s instead of TD’s, not Jameis’s fault. Was Jameis perfect No, but damn close. Completes 73% and nearly 400 yds w no running game. We have the offense to win, OJ now part of the mix and Djax & jameis making plays. The DEFENSE WAS THE ONLY REASON THIS TEAM HAS LOST THE LAST TWO GAMES, PERIOD. THE DEFENSE IS THE PROBLEM NOT JAMEIS NOT THE KICKER JUST THE DEFENSE!!!!!

  166. WesTampaBuc Says:

Ward has lost every contest he was apart of, trade him to the Cowboys for one of their back-up d-lineman

  167. daveman Says:

For all of the previous games where people said Jameis needs to be more consistent, this is what consistent QB play looks like. He still has a few bad throws and bad decisions, but for the most part, he was accurate with the ball.

Now, if we can have any one of six guys who were in position to do so make a tackle on their 3rd string running back on a 3rd and 10 jet sweep, might be a different ball game.

  168. daveman Says:

    JimmyT,
The snap looked good, that one was on Jameis. But I still think Jameis had his most complete game and was good enough to get a win. That is what good QB play looks like.

The D really played poorly today for most of the game. In fact, they looked a lot like Jameis in previous weeks. Spots of awesome mixed with long stretches of bad.

I know it’s too late for this year, but we practically have the personnel for a 3-4. Our front 4 is just not talented enough to get pressure and play coverage with 7. We need to mix it up and start blitzing. And tackling. And covering.
