Position Battle Still Brewing

Still evaluating

For the bottom-of-the-roster junkies, this post is for you.

Joe asked winning head coach Dirk Koetter today about where second-year tackle Leonard Wester stands after a strong preseason and making the 53-man roster.

Koetter said Wester is in a battle with Caleb Benenoch to be the official “swing tackle,” aka backup tackle, on gameday. One would be active every Sunday and one would be inactive.

Second-year man Benenoch, Koetter noted, can also play guard, if needed. But the Bucs have plenty of guard options and Joe suspects the gameday call will come down to who is the better tackle.

Benenoch was praised for punishing run blocking this preseason but also took a beating for too many penalties. Wester looked pretty solid.

So there you have it. There’s a still a fierce position competition in place.

    Speaking for Pablo

“Pablo prefers Anthony Munoz”……but if Pablo can’t have Munoz….Pablo likes Caleb…”

This has to be one of the most solid rosters top to bottom in franchise history. Some positions are deeper than others, but there are no holes. We’re discussing which of our 2 promising young tackles will dress out on Sundays. Our 10 man practice squad is made up of all Buc cuts. Top free agents want to play for us. These are good times to be a Bucs fan.

    Easy
Swing tackle will see about 1/4 of plays,at least. He will be the one that spells either tackle when winded , or need to come out a play. Also will play on all special teams.
He will be an important part of the Team.

While I believe Benenoch will soon be our Staring right Tackle, Webster is probably a better swing tackle right now.

Granted I’ve paid little to no attention to the preseason at all, but I think Wester gets the nod

Pretty much what the Bat said..

  11. Mike Evans GOAT Says:

Bennenoch gets the nod. More versatile, can play left and right tackle plus guard

  12. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Given how fragi!e Demar is…I say dress both. One of them will be our starting right tackle within a few weeks, so get them reps now.
