Do You Move The Patriots To The Win Column?

September 8th, 2017

Tampa takedown

The vast majority of Bucs fans are demanding at least a 10-win season.

That represents improvement from 9-7. And when you have an emerging franchise quarterback and add serious firepower with DeSean Jackson, O.J. Howard and T.J. Ward, and return a veteran coaching staff for its second season, then you better become a double-digit winner immediately.

Anything else would be flat out depressing, especially with one of the older rosters in the NFL.

So what games do you circle as wins on the calendar? Nearly every fan does it. It’s a long-standing NFL tradition before opening day.

Before this hurricane debacle, Joe was adamant that Tampa Bay had to open 3-2 with games against the Dolphins, Bears, Vikings, Giants and Patriots. Anything less would mean the Bucs were pretenders until they proved otherwise.

But now the game has changed. The Dolphins matchup was pushed back and all of a sudden the Patriots look loaded with weaknesses after getting thumped 42-27 at home last night. They were shut out and flat out embarrassed in the fourth quarter. Stunning stuff.

You think the Chiefs offense is that good? Joe highly doubts that.

Joe can’t wait to see what the Patriots defense looks like in New Orleans next weekend. The Saints led the NFL in scoring last season.

The point is do you now circle the Patriots on the calendar as a must-to-get-to-10-victories win in Week 5, in Tampa, on Thursday Night Football? Joe is sure leaning that way. A short week at home is the best way to get New England.

We’re being led to believe the Bucs will suffer in December because of their eliminated bye week. Well, if that’s the case, then the Bucs should be primed and sharp and and ready to pounce on a questionable Patriots team on Oct. 5.

If this team is a contender, then go win that home game.

    No

  2. NewTampaChris Says:

Yup, nothing like making a snap judgement based on one game.

  3. mike n Says:

KC’s offense is damn good. Andy reid is almost unbeatable off a bye, so 6 months to prepare with tyrek and their new rb i was expecting a shot out. KC has a great O line so the pats couldn’t bring much pressure… I’m guessing they don’t have that problem with the Bucs o line.

  4. unbelievable Says:

LOL, no it doesn’t change my thoughts at all.

We CAN beat them, but it will be one of the hardest games we play this season.

  5. NOSBOS Says:

“but will be one of the hardest games we play this season”huh??? Did I miss something. They gave up over 500 yards last night. I told y’all all summer that dude will be 40. He looked as much against texans, falcons and chiefs opening night. Not only should we win,we should do so impressively.

  6. darin Says:

    Mike
Yessir reid is vreat off the bye. I took kc against the spread knowing that. And no Ira you dont count a win against the patriots yet. Dont count one against anyone yet. One game at a time.

  7. Lord Cornelius Says:

lol this makes me want to pull up a bunch of week 1 storylines from last year to show how silly this is

It is crazy that a Pats team gave up 42 points tho. They gave up an average of like 16 PPG last year. People tend to ignore or not realize the Pats typically field top 5 or 10 defenses every year

  8. NOSBOS Says:

I’m fearfull for tom brady,my beliefs is he knows he has no business still being on that football field. There were times last night chiefs players could have leveled him but they clearly pulled up and simply shoved him backward.

  9. NOSBOS Says:

Lord C they have what looks a bunch of no names on defense now.

  10. NOSBOS Says:

I watched Aneius Williams level Steve Young,I saw Lavar Arrington steam roll Troy Aikman. Can’t recall his name but that d linemen decleated Kurt Warner. If he ain’t careful someone is going to crush tom brady and that will be the end of his chapter. Would have been too easy to ride off into sunset after this last chip.

  11. BuccaneEric75 Says:

NosBos, our defense gave up 2 500 yard games in a row and we bounced back quickly. I remember a couple of seasons ago Brady looked bad in a loss against the Chiefs very early in the season and people were saying he done. He may be old, but I won’t judge off of one game against a team that seems to have his number. He will drop off, but when is just a guess.

  12. NOSBOS Says:

We were learning a defense last season he 40 bro. His wife said he was concus last season. His response “its nobodies business if I was”. You tempting fait tom.

  13. LouisFriend Says:

If the Bucs win ANY Thursday night game again – ever – I’ll be shocked. I’m still having nightmares about last year’s Falcons game.

  14. Dooshlarue Says:

Brady plays well when he’s pissed.
They weren’t prepared and had all the pre game hype last night, but I have no doubt they’re the same Patriots.

  15. Lamarcus Says:

No especially Thursday night games. We get blown out on those days

  16. Lord Cornelius Says:

Pats D had quite a bit of turnover so I think they’ll need time to adjust. They really just couldn’t do anything in the red zone whereas the Chiefs were dominant. That; and the 2 huge plays given up (one just a huge breakdown in coverage); was what doomed them.

If not for those 2 75 yard pass TDs (lol we didn’t have ONE of those last year!!!) then Alex Smith has stat line that shows it took him 33 passes to get 215 yards; and even those 215 yards were full of lots of YAC.

Alex Smith’s supporting cast made a game manager look like an elite QB last night. This excites me for Winston.

  17. R.O. Says:

Seriously going to overreact to a week 1 loss by the Patriots… Seriously?

  18. RayJameisStadium Says:

No win against BillyCheat the first time. We will blast them at the Super Bowl!!!

    Chi – W
    Min – W
    NY – L
    NE – L
    Ari – L

Arizona will be the last game we lose this season.

    13 – 3

DK will hold the Lombardi next to Glazer Brothers at the Super Bowl!!!

    Winston will shock the world!!!!

There is a new sheriff in town!

  19. unbelievable Says:

NOSBOS you think suddenly Billcheat is no longer a mastermind because they lost 1 game? gimme a break.

We can beat them, but again, it will definitely be one of the toughest games on our schedule, I don’t give chit how old tom brady is this year.

  20. Ptwalk Says:

THey were always beatable, I felt confident in us beating them before last night.

  21. shouldhavedraftedeifert Says:

You guys need to stop with this Brady apologist BS. @NOSBOS <—- fearful for Brady? GTFO this board and go back to Boston man! 🙂

  22. NOSBOS Says:

Never said that unbelievable, but like I’ve said all summer the dude is 40. Ion care about your avocado diet and your hyperberic sleeping chamber. Your 40. And ain’t ever seen anyone whip father time. As for Belichess’s defense, I don’t see any Seymore’s,Samuels, or Mayo’s over there now bro. Hard to stay top ten wit no names man. They are the hunted now.

  23. BuccaneEric75 Says:

NosBos, I’ll say it again. Everyone was calling Brady done when they lost early to the Chiefs two years ago and Tom looked old. The Chiefs have his number. We’ll see how it plays out, but don’t rush to judgment.

  24. James Walker Says:

Doesn’t it really depend upon how nasty the Giants game is?

  25. BuccaneEric75 Says:

All I know is that I hope he looks old against us. He won’t have Edelman or Mitchell, and Amendola is already banged up. They don’t have a big time running back and the D shouldn’t gel bye the time we play them. We might actually celebrate after a Thursday night game after all!

  26. NOSBOS Says:

eifert go f+$! ya self dude,I was being a smart @$$. I’ve been the only poster on this site critical of the golden boy dumb@$$. Ima Florida boy homie born and bred.

  27. NOSBOS Says:

5436 Eugenia ct. Orlando,Fl. 32811 is where them folks took me after I was born homeboy. The neighborhood name is Carver Shores. West Orange county is where I earn my bones dudes. F@$! you mean talkin bout boston.

  28. Doctor Stroud Says:

Before we start talking about the Pats (Oct 5), I say let’s focus on getting through Irma first (Sept 9-11) and then focus on da Bears (Sept 17)! Be safe out there!

  29. unbelievable Says:

haha NOS I like that attitude man! (I lived in o-town for about 6 years btw)

We can go toe to toe with anyone in the league, I just think it’s going to be one of the harder games we play.

  30. Rrsrq Says:

No team scares me (though I’m an optimist), if Jameis is hot and doesn’t make mistakes, I still think our defense is a bend but don’t break, we stay healthy, I always thought we could beat the Pats. Jameis is young enough to tell his team F your circumstances. Go Bucs

  31. NOSBOS Says:

I mean they do have a championship pedigree. But if they show up looking uninspired like they did late in the game last night we should handle them fairly easily. And I’m basing that off the talent level of our team bro.

  32. NOSBOS Says:

What I came away thinking after last nights game was this league is wide open for the taking. There is no clear cut notch above the rest of the pack team present in this league right now.

  33. SB Says:

I have a buddy up here who was born in Boston. He said he though one of the BEST chances his team had of losing this yr was week 5 to us! He wouldn’t even bet me $100.

  34. BigMacAttack Says:

I’d like to see 10 wins or better but if not, be competitive and exciting. So much depends on staying healthy. Even if they only get 4 wins, don’t pull the plug on Koetter or Licht. Stay the course and they will get there.

  35. NOSBOS Says:

Something different happen last night. When the pats went up 27/21 that’s normally when teams bow to them especially late in the 3rd. I’m sure eveyone in that stadium thought as much with the exception of KC they said “no” enough is enough and kept punching. Pats looked shook by that response man. They had no more fight after KC recaptured the lead.

  36. JWBUCS Says:

I believe we got a good look last night on how the Patriots can be beat… I am sure Mike Smith and Dirk will take apart and carefully study the all 22 from last night!

  37. stpetebucsfan Says:

Again can we put the bye in perspective. It represents a 3% advantage…53% of teams win coming off their bye. That is gone for us. But again as the blog optimist let me continue to point out reality.

It would have been wonderful to have a 3% edge going into the Falcons game in Atlanta. I think many of us…certainly me…thought the bye might let us steal a road win against the Dixie Chicks. But even with the bye what were the odds of us winning in Atlanta. They would have still been the favorites at home just as they will continue to be without our bye.

There is NO correlation between byes and the remainder of the season…some teams have gone on winning streaks…others on losing streaks at about the same rate.

So Atlanta…a long shot game for us…does indeed become longer. Isn’t that better than giving up that 3% against a bad team at home.

As for the Pats…it’s one game!!! I’m glad they’re going to be highly motivated against N.O.!!! I now believe after Atlanta the toughest game on our schedule will be Green Bay at Green Bay in December. And of course we’re a notoriously great cold weather team right?

  38. SCBucsFan Says:

We beat the Falcons pretty handily in the first game last season and they went to the Super Bowl. One game tells you nothing about how the season will go.

  39. unbelievable Says:

Just to bring some history to this conversation….

The Pats have lost the first game of the season 3 different times in the Brady / Billicheat era, and then gone on to win the Superbowl.

  40. NOSBOS Says:

Last night was different unbelievable, had a different feel. You know people tend to forget Iron Mike dropped Buster Douglas in that fight. Buster stood up said “no” looked across that ring and said to hiimself “I’m fina whip this dude tonight”. Mike was never the same after the world had watched a man finally han him his own @$$.

  41. stpetebucsfan Says:

    Unbelievable

How dare you bring facts to an opinion blog. LMAO

  42. NOSBOS Says:

Had muthaf@$!#s like Peter McNealy believing.

  43. NOSBOS Says:

Y’all can make excuses all you want they finish. Two reasons brady over the hill and they don’t diffrences makers on that defense. Stick around you’ll see. Brees fina kill them.

  44. NOSBOS Says:

What I find peculiar is how so many quick to defend other teams but down they’re own so called team. S@$! amazes me.

  45. NOSBOS Says:

Watch how this play’s out brees and co. gone get on they @$$ then everyone round here gone be like I think we can take them now. Ish funny man.

  46. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Everyone be safe during Irmageddon.

    And, Joe?

    Never a day off :p

    Lol

  47. Defense Rules Says:

StPete, speaking of facts … Everyone seems to be looking at Kareem Hunt today as a shoo-in for league MVP. The final score (42-27) would make it appear that the Chiefs dominated … but that’s not really the case.

Alex Smith (once he got warmed up) had an awesome game (25-for-35, 368 yds & 4 TDs) … and only 7 passes were deep (he ONLY connected on 3 of those … for 178 yards). Brady on the other hand had a rough night (16-for-36, 267 yds & 0 TDs). He threw deep 15 times but only completed 3 of those … but for 100 yds. Both teams had 30 mins TOP, both teams got 3 sacks, KC had 1 turnover while the Pats had 0, KC had 15 penalties (for 139 yds) to only 6 penalties for the Patriots (for 55 yds).

The real difference in the game was 3 big plays by the Chiefs in the 4th qtr … 2 by Hunt & 1 by West. (Patriots were actually ahead 27-21 starting the 4th qtr then blew it by giving up big plays: a 78 yd pass to Hunt (TD), a 58 yd run by Hunt & a 21 yd run by West (TD). Pretty good explosive plays it looked like. Dirk Koetter would be proud … or envious.

  48. Ptwalk Says:

    I feelya NosBos

  49. NOSBOS Says:

You left out the play of brady. 16 of 36 236 yards 444% completion percentage 0 ints 0 td. 7.4 average yard a pass attempt. Ungolden like hence me saying he’s over the hill. Now

  50. NOSBOS Says:

Now yall can go on saying stuff like if it wasn’t for two or three plays things might have been different. But to my eye KC imposed they’re will by attacking them with those two or three plays. pats were unequip to stop those two or three plays. They defense looks like its compose of replacement players man.

  51. NOSBOS Says:

Seems we have more than a few brady/pats sympathizers amongst us. I love it,I’m going to enjoy every moment of them receiving they’re lumps this season. You can’t just continue giving good football players like Jamie Collins and Chandler Jones they’re walkin papers before it eventually comes back to bite you. Is he genius??? Ion know maybe, but even the best football minds require good football players bro.

  52. godzilla13 Says:

I see the Buccaneers going 11-5. Even with a slow start (2-3) they come back and finish strong.

  54. JameisDungy Says:

Can Dirk call plays as well as Andy Reid is the question.

  55. I'm tired and 87 is right Says:

So I was thinking. Since we go screwed out of our first game of the season we should get the stick carriers together and really make a point game one of the season. It’s called dotting your i’s and crossing your t’s. We should get all stick carriers together to march into Raymond James Stadium chanting something and then march all the way down to the 50 from the top levels and spread across the whole stadium making a point. That point is now. We have had enough and we will destroy everyone that comes in front of us! Go Bucs! It’s game time! P.S. Someone let Justin know.

  56. Rod Munch Says:

I had them winning the game before hand – this actually makes it less likely the Bucs get a W. RayJay should be absolutely rocking that night and going nuts, it should be a good game – I hope.

  57. Eric Says:

Brady won the super bowl just a few months ago.

Very likely to bounce back strong IMO

And give us fits soon enough

    Like Glennon.

  58. I'm tired and 87 is right Says:

Sucks when spell check gets your seventh word wrong. Totally kills the message. Go Bucs! Smash Smash Smash! Stick Carriers unite!!

  59. NOSBOS Says:

These dudes give up over 500 yards of total offense to a team we beat last season (in they’re house)but folks see us losing to them. Clearly you folks don’t think much about your so-called own team.

  60. NOSBOS Says:

brady won the superbowl a few months ago??? Poll america, most will say atl choked away the superbowl a few months ago. You people brainwashed by the none-stop media coverage of that organization.

  61. NOSBOS Says:

Wasn’t just over-the-hill brady and bad pats defense. Add inn poor O line play. He was dancing like jojo late last night. Don’t know what y’all saw but I watched a trash @$$ football team.

  62. NOSBOS Says:

If they without flaw super sunday I might understand some of you guys sentiment, but last time we saw them they played like trash. First time witnessing them this season they played like trash.

  63. NOSBOS Says:

27/21 they figured KC would bow down. Nahh, them boys knew they were better team an collectively decided “we fina whip these dudes tonight”. Salute KC.

  64. gulfcoast Says:

    ‘Emersom Biggins

  65. Rod Munch Says:

NOSBOS – Most people don’t even remember the Falcons were in the Super Bowl a few months ago. That’s what happens when you’re a loser, no one remembers you.

  66. NOSBOS Says:

Well why do I still keep hearing the most epic melt down in the history of superbowl.

  67. tnew Says:

you guys are forgetting. With the Pats or any NFL team in the modern era. When two of the top 3 receivers go down the QB will struggle. Amendola and Malcom Mitchell went out in that game. Plus with Edelman already out from the preseason knee. This is why I am so high on Jameis. What he did, which is win with such little around him was simply amazing.

Patriots looked good prior to the Amendola injury. That was the last straw to the receiving corps. Patriots will be scouring the practice squads for replacements. The Chiefs stopped the run, rolled the safety over to protect Cooks, played Gronk from over the top, then they could just get after the QB.

They will have all of this fixed by week 5. Always a formidable matchup

  68. unbelievable Says:

Hahaha NOS just so we’re clear I fukin hate the Pats and Brady. I’m just not ready to count them out after one game.

  69. Defense Rules Says:

tnew, I agree with you about Jameis. What he accomplished last year with marginal running game, OLine play and receivers was downright impressive, and this year promises to be significantly better in all 3 areas. Patriots already have a lot of players banged up and on IR. Still a threat obviously, but they’re beatable.

  70. Not there yet Says:

That’s kinda arrogant don’t you think. We’re a team that hasn’t been too the playoffs in a decade. Lots of new parts for that team I think they’ll adjust just like we had to last year. I love the pats for trashing Atlanta in the Superbowl. Yes I want the win but I want them to destroy everyone else in our division

  71. BuccaneEric75 Says:

NosBos, you’re so funny. A multiple post rant about a team you obviously hate. You take too much from one game. The Chiefs beat the Pats 2 years ago and Brady looked like trash. How’d that work out for you? I bet you hated Jordan’s Bulls too?
