Frightening Matchup

September 29th, 2017

Smelling victory or Swaggy Baker’s belly shirt?

You may not need a cup of coffee after reading this. Or, this will make you want to go back to bed and bury your head in a pillow.

It should have tipped Joe off two weeks ago when Mike Glennon of the Bears often marched the Bears down field on the Bucs defense until he decided to play Santa Claus. You know, winning is the best deodorant.

And then there was last Sunday in Minneapolis. Ugh!

Well, per the research of data-driven, limousine-ridin’, jet-flyin’, kiss-stealin’, data-analyzin’, Bucs-film-studyin’ Thomas Bassinger of the Tampa Bay Times, that sets up a very ugly matchup for the Bucs Sunday against the Giants.

@tometrics: #Bucs opponents have completed 71.8% of their passes (third-highest rate).
#NYGiants QB Eli Manning has completed 73.5% (second-highest).

It was bad enough the Bucs got carved up like a meatloaf last Sunday against the Vikings by the likes of Joe Montana Case Keenum, the Bucs also got the tar beat out of them, physically, like a rented mule.

Now, it is one of the worst NFL defenses on third down trying to stop one of the NFL’s best quarterbacks on third down.

Joe needs a beer already.

No suprises here. And the Bucs will do it before throngs of NYG fans.

  2. Fire the glazers Says:

Why do we pretend we have a talented defensive line? EVERY year we are hopeful, and every year our patience is rewarded with overhyped free agent signings at defensive tackle and undersized defensive ends who are too quick around the edge but not quick enough when corners are playing 10 yds off their receivers and the QB can dink and dunk all game and barely get touched. I am soooooooo tired of being hopeful of this team. TOO EARLY IN THE SEASON? Bull crap. This is the beginning of the end for mike smith, and if he stays, then koetters leash will get significantly shorter.

  3. RayJameisStadium Says:

Everybody forgets about the Chicago game….SMH

    2-1 Baby!!!

Koetter will hold the Lombardi next to the Glazers next February in Minnesota!

Barber, Jameis and the Stick Carriers are going to bring some WOOD this Sunday!!!!

    Go Bucs!!!

JoeL the 6th home win in a row.

  4. FortMyersDave Says:

Time to put down huge coin on the Giants? Strange how the betting lines have not moved too much despite all the mismatches apparently in the Giants favor. Reading many of the JBF articles and you’d think the Giants should be the 3 point favorite and the -160 on the moneyline not +140…. Yet I hate to admit it but it is probably more likely for Eli to exploit the Bucs weak secondary and pass rush than the Bucs running game exploiting the Giants D-line or Jameis having a mistake free game, thus advantage Giants but perhaps I am being a bit over pessimistic…..

  5. Rrsrq Says:

We will need 30+ to win this game, not sure a injury riddled defense can contain their receiver weapons, imo, this team has the similar weaponry as the Bucs, but I’m trusting Jameis to shine and outplay Eli.

  6. Since '76 Says:

I don’t see OBJ being a problem for Ryan Smith to cover because I just read where Smith said he has to play better. Jameis said he has to play better too. Gerald McCoy said he has to play better too. Coach Kotter said that the team has to play better too.
I think the problem has been solved. The Giants must not be sleeping too soundly because the Bucs said they have too play better. Scary team these Bucs.

  7. RayJameisStadium Says:

The Cannons, Stick Carriers, Grimes, Spence, J. Smith and the Baker effect are back.

But above all that the story will be Dr. Winston and Giant killer DeSean Jackson.

Barber will get a game ball for his 78 yds. rushing in 16 carries.

Sims will bring back his deadly screen passes to life with 48 yds.

JoeL will have to check his pants after the 6th win in a roll at Ray Jameis Stadium!!!

    2-1 folks!!!!! Expect Different!!!

  8. Waterboy Says:

Close to the same completion % as Lovie Smith’s defense a few years back.

  9. Guzzie Says:

The only way the Bucs win this game is if BAD ELI shows up, Winston isn’t smart enough, or patient enough to win a shoot out, besides the Giants actually have a talented defense, expensive Dline that produces, an expensive free agent CB who also produces, 2nd round Safety that produces, Giants are not going 0-4, sorry d!ck carriers, what a stupid nickname (stick carriers), acting like we actually did something or should be feared because 5 games last year our defense played well, and our QB preaches about family, then goes out and throws the game away, whatever

  10. Maze Says:

Sounds like Guzzie needs to call an escort and take a load off

  11. Easy Denman Says:

We know Eli is gonna throw slants like crazy if the DBs keep giving 6 and 7 yard cushions. Gotta press them and make Eli throw into tight windows (if Hargreaves and Smith decide to play this Sunday).

  12. CautiousOptimism Says:

Pass rush problems are squarely on the shoulders of our highly overrated GM Jason Licht. This is not a function of Mike Smith’s coaching or game plans. He is doing everything possible to gin up a pass rush in other exotic ways because this defensive line is full of a bunch of soft, inept and fat players that all collectively can’t make a damn play.
When will the bloom fly off the Jason Licht rose around here?

  13. Tampabaybucfan Says:

It’s time for our offense to show up (because it hasn’t)……not even last year…..game after game it underperforms.

We don’t have to worry about Eli if our “weapons” are deployed.

  14. Dreambig Says:

Lol CautiousOptimism, Jason Licht must have banged your mom or something. You might want to consider a name change because there is nothing optimistic about your recent posts. I suggest your new name be something like BrokenRecord or StuckOnJason

  15. CautiousOptimism Says:

Dreambig- you are not interested in defending your fairy tale GMs record so you go after me for pointing out how much he sucks. Why no defend the war machine of a pass rush that your hero GM has fielded for us this year? That might be difficult I presume so you are going to attack me instead.
Be optimistic but use caution because this team deeply flawed.

  16. sorryitriggeredyou Says:

@RayJameisStadium I’m starting to get hyped for this game. I love JW in his own house and I think the atmosphere is going to be electric. Prolly the best game of the season, not counting the super bowl in mini. HA!

  17. stpetebucsfan Says:

Let’s be honest…we’re not going to beat anybody if we’re missing…our best defensive player..our stud MLB…our best cornerback…a solid DL who helped keep Chicago’s running game in check.

You just can’t gut a defense like that and expect success. And we don’t even know how GMC’s ankle is holding up…a player whose skill set is that first quick step needs his wheels.

The offense will have to carry this team untll we get our defense back.

  18. wes Says:

You need to remember that most teams need a running game in order to be successful. The Giants have NONE, hence the 0-3. Sure Eli has completed 73% of throws… what good does it do if your offense has stunk like the Giants have? And also a lot of those are short passes. The longer the drive and slower they move down the field (All throws) the more potential for a mistake and turn over.

Just look at what happened vs. Chicago

  19. cmurda Says:

The injuries are a huge factor but let’s be honest here. Our D Line is a joke. I don’t put the blame squarely on Licht’s shoulders although I think D Line and/or RB should have been addressed before safety (Justin Turner). The fact of the matter is our LB corps is extremely banged up and we were without Grimes last week. grimes was the biggest factor. Everyone will chew up VH3 and Ryan Smith but their aim is off. It should be targeted on this D Line. Other than McCoy, there is no pass rushing talent at all. Ayers has been done for 3 years now, Jaq Smith is a good rotational guy but nothing more, and Gholston is a ghost. I like Noah Spence and think he has been pretty good so far but his shoulder worries me. We are really missing that stud DE which I could definitely see us targeting in next year’s draft.

  20. CautiousOptimism Says:

    Justin Turner?^^^
    He’s a “beast”, right?
    Go Licht!

  21. stpetebucsfan Says:

Yeah Cautious Optimism…his career is TWO games old so let’s just write him off..

I mean why wait to see if he learns and grows when TWO games is a very large statistical base.

  22. 813bucboi Says:

I think the atmosphere is going to be electric.

It will be….I just hope its full of bucs fans….I know tons of giants fans going to the game….GO BUCS!!!

  23. CautiousOptimism Says:

stpetebucsfan- he has such potential that they panicked and overpaid for TJ Ward at the last minute and won’t let him near the football field for any consequential downs.
I don’t know, sure can take a lot from TWO games played by a number of other picks in that 2nd round. Guess ours is a late bloomer, a bust or whatever because Licht is gonna get a pass anyway so who cares, right?

  24. LakeLandBuc Says:

Eli Manning 5-0 against the Bucs

Tom Brady 3-0 against the Bucs

  25. Gencoimports Says:

The Bucs need to run the ball, slow the game down and limit Giant possessions.

  26. 813bucboi Says:

    @Lakeland

    0-5 without kwon…GO BUCS!!!
