Declining Time For Keith Tandy

Despite the Buccaneers’ beating at the hands of the offensive juggernaut knows as the Vikings, safety Chris Conte might have a satisfied grin on his face this afternoon.

Yes, in Joe’s all-Bucs world, Tuesday lunchtime means Abe’s Place feasting and studying snap-count totals and other data from Sunday’s game.

Pro Football Reference numbers show Conte took 73 of 74 defensive snaps, one behind team leader Kendell Beckwith. Also at safety, starter Keith Tandy was in on 38 percent of the snaps, while newcomer Pro Bowler T.J. Ward took 62 percent.

So Joe’s simple analysis concludes that Tandy is getting phased out. And it’s only a matter of time before Ward starts.

Nothing too unexpected. While Tandy had four interceptions in the last five games of 2016, that apparently wasn’t enough street cred to earn a ton of playing time early this season.

Second-round pick Justin Evans is the No. 4 safety. Joe’s not quite sure how much he’ll develop without seeing the field, but that’s just how it goes for rookies not ready — or not given a chance — to make an impact.

For now, Evans can focus on special teams and staying in the field of play on coverage teams.

tandy was never the answer at safety. nice story. he had great run of six or seven games but he is what he is. great team guy adequate backup. just like cancer93 except tandy has actually made a play or two when it matters most.

  2. Rodney Says:

I see this happening also. I actually thought Conte would be pushed out. Guess the coaches know something we don’t.

  3. BucAllNight Says:

Tmax-Are you gonna go talk to Gerald?

  4. tmaxcon Says:

i would not waste my time on that fool. he needs to shut up and do his damn job and see if he can go 5 plays without getting hurt. he’s a soft thin skin good not great player that does not make anyone around him better. NO KWON-NO DEFENSE simple as that

  5. teacherman777 Says:

Actually, its not that simple moron.

Brent Grimes was a top 5 CB last year.

    Without Grimes, we got killed.

Yes Kwon is essential too. However, so is LVD, GMC, Beckwith, Gholston and every other starter.

    We are not deep enough.

Without Grimes, our two 2nd year CB’s got torched by one of the best WR duos in the NFL.

Thielen and Diggs have the best hands I have seen by a WR combo in many years. They simply don’t drop balls and they make many acrobatic catches.

My hats off to Thielen, an un drafted superstar. And Diggs, an overchieving 4th round WR.

    And

    @joe

    I was wrong about Cook.

He is a legit RB. He is deceptively strong. He breaks a lot of tackles.

  6. rashad Says:

LMAO at bucallnight. I love my team but i’m not sure about anything in regards to this defense. The cowgirls sacked Palmer 2 times maybe more with a three man rush. We cant even get there with a four man rush. I’ve been thinking about that since last night.

Tmax-Are you gonna go talk to Gerald?

You say you wont waste his time but you’ll waste ours with your GMC rants?! You di@k LOL

  8. NOSBOS Says:

Don’t feel bad teacherman, many here were wrong. Budding star in this league he is.

you are just butt hurt that I am 100% correct on my analysis of your little man crush. being called names by anonymous posters is pretty funny thanks for the laugh. now go tell mommy it’s time for your nap

without kwon the team is lead by the soft mentally weak proven losers in lvd and mccoy who are the face of the buccaneer basement years PERIOD… Missing grimes hurt terribly no doubt but let’s not forget to mention the wasted first round pick vh3 stinking up the joint yet again. team plays with no heart or passion when led by lvd or the walking injury gmc… licht blew both first and second rounders last year that is undeniable and the defense is suffering for it. out with old in with the new it’s the only way to bury the basement years and kill the losing culture… the career soft losers must be purged they simply do not know how to win and play with no heart.

all those bs excuses you make are just that excuses for a soft mentally weak defense when kwon is missing.

  11. Baz Says:

tmax is the troll of trolls who, when confronted with an actual opportunity to speak his mind to the object of his ire, chooses not to even comment or post on that article. But boy, he sure jumped on other articles to spout his BS.

not even a JAG (Just Another Guy), more like a POS

  12. tmaxcon Says:

accurate POS and that pissees you off

  13. Warrenfb12 Says:

Why though? Didn’t we hear all the communication issues were the reason the defense was getting torn up? Seemed like Conte and Tandy put together some good performances against good teams last year. I don’t understand.

  14. unbelievable Says:

Lol Not accurate at all, bud.

But your blind hatred of McCoy has become quite amusing.

  15. 813bucboi Says:

I wouldn’t conclude that joe….theres still plenty on time for conte to be conte and tandy is thrown back into the mix…..

@rashad hit it on the head….the cowboys were able to get pressure with 3 lineman….not because the linemen were that good, but because they had 6 db in coverage!!!….no one was open!!!…every time a wr entered a zone someone was right there….that forced palmer to hold on to the ball much longer than he wanted to….

my question is why didn’t smitty try something like this….6 dbs 3 linemen and 2 lbs….obviously the blitz failed…we already had VHG and ryan smith playing soft coverage as if they were in a zone scheme…GO BUCS!!!!

  16. BUCLUV55 Says:

    Tmax,
All this talk and venom of you calling out gmc, now you’ve got an opportunity to let him have it…..and, surprise surprise, you choose to stay and hide behind your keyboard. Shut your ass up with the endless bitching….. or go stand up and stand behind your words.
    Clown.

  17. Lord Cornelius Says:

    I don’t get it personally.

Tandy = better in coverage than Conte imo and it isn’t close. He made the most splash coverage plays last year and has great breaks on the ball.

Tandy should be the FS and Ward should be the SS imo

  18. LakeLandBuc Says:

2nd round draft pick is the 4th Safety…oh boy.

  19. LakeLandBuc Says:

Dalvin Cook wouldn’t average 3 yards per carry, running behind the Bucs pathetic line. I’m glad for Cook, I’m even more grateful that the Bucs didn’t draft him. The Bucs destroys RBs careers, Dalvin is where he belongs. And thank God it’s not with the Bucs.

  20. Bucamania Says:

The more TJ the better. Tandy and Conte have beed dreadful. You’d think they’d know how to play in this defense by now.

  21. I'm a Tandyman Bucs Fan Says:

Tandy gets phased out and Bucs get there ass handed to them… Loyalty my ass. Conte is not better. Ward is not better. Bet the Giants spank that ass also if Tandy is on the sidelines watching. Better get the 800 grand on the field instead of the 8 Mill if they want to win. Tandy has already proved himself….Damn shame!!!

  22. Buc4Lyfe79 Says:

Let’s keep things in proper perspective here fellas. Ive been calling out tmax’s Mo Love man crush on #93 for weeks now. It’s so obvious, and if you give it a thought, ian big mouth beckles shares the same love for #93. Probably is jealous that he can’t go strap on some pads and get some quality up close and personal time with him that the guys who swing both ways crave. That being said, here’s tmax in this column trying to call out someone else for having the same kind of love but is still in utter denial as to his own man crush?? C’mon max, just “man” up about it, be brave and bold, take that first step outta the closet, proclaim your Mo Love man crush for #93 to the rest of the world already and we’ll all support you. To each his own right? But don’t try to pawn off ur secret on somebody else just because you’re too afraid to come outta that closet yourself. I understand, you’re yearning for him, yet scared all at the same time, but don’t you think the object of your affections deserves better than for you to remain in the closet with your unbridled passion for him? Just remember, and you know it’s true tmax, “you’ve got it, you’ve got it bad.”

  23. Rich Sauers, Jr. Says:

Tmax: you’re about as clueless as they come in football talk and keyboard plunking. You do realize GMC gets doubled notoriously? Now explain to me why any soft player who isn’t worth anything would be constantly doubled by opposing nfl teams? The man stayed out there even late in the game on that ankle and gave it all he had. Do you understand that? How is that soft? I think you’re real problem should be those other guys on the line who aren’t handling the single coverage. What about them? GMC goes out there and does stuff even while being double teamed. Haha… you aren’t right about anything? Why? Cause you say so? It’s not his fault those other guys on the line aren’t getting through. You go ahead and cuss rant your teenage level garbage like your some kind of tough guy behind your keyboard. GMC is the man. You go ask any player in the league and see what they say. As far as I can tell the only ines who blast this guy are supposed Tampa fans like yourself who think hes gotta be as perfect as can be against double teams and still get 3 sacks a game while making all the tackles on the line. I saw this guy run down a guy out of the backfield cause no one else was bringing him down late in the game on that ankle. You’re keyboard plunking chump couldn’t even begin to act like you know anything about his heart. He has every right to be disheartened about stuff man. I know, you’ll just type back, I’m just butt hurt. Go ahead… cause you’re a big boy. A tough guy with the intelligence level of another cuss out. Oh and slamming David too. Haha…. clueless. He was another one doing a lot of work until someone fell on him from behind. Haha…

Pain in the arse to constantly dig out your comments out of the spam filter multiple times a day. Joe’s explained this process many times but you don’t learn. Well, now you’ve got something to really b!tch about. But hey, your comments aren’t filtered any longer. Problem corrected.– Joe]

  25. Rod Munch Says:

Rookie safeties rarely step in and play early – safety and TE are the two positions in football that are the hardest for rookies to step in and play, and that’s been the case for as long as I can remember.

For Conte he was his awful normal self out there on Sunday, the stack of him and Ryan Smith are the worst duo of DBs in football. I just can’t believe with as bad as Conte was last year they brought him back – AND he’s playing. It’s unbelievable – just as unbelieve as they watched Ryan Smith get burned again and again and again in preseason and they kept him on the team, he’s terrible and not an NFL talent.

  26. N.flbuc Says:

This will be the last time I tune into your web sight and NFL till they respect our country, that we are so lucky to live.

  27. Buc Fan in NC Says:

Tandy is better than Conte. Way better

  28. LakeLandBuc Says:

Bradley McDougald was our best FS for the past 3 years, and we let him go for peanuts.

  29. LakeLandBuc Says:

Well, we let him walk for NOTHING, Seattle is paying him peanuts

  30. BaldBuc Says:

Maybe Gerald McCoy finally took his obsession with superheroes too far and his psyche split in order to find a nemesis. Tampaxicon was formed. You’ve been outed Gerald, we all know it’s you… Lmfao

  31. SteelStudBuc Says:

    @Tmaxipad
You acting like a baby back b1tch
Go see McCoy and tell him how he should play

  32. Brett Says:

TJ Ward may have to play corner if injuries continue. Wow. i don’t think I would be writing about competition at safety right now.

  33. yrbndr Says:

    tmax

Be a man and talk to GMC! I understand that you may have to roll up your nap mat a little early but your mother will understand!

  34. THETRUTH Says:

TMAX is exactly what McCoy called out, no knowledge of game just rant all day sitting in his trailer stealing neighbors WIFI signal to get a message out once a day..

get off the couch and see if you can fit out your door and meet GM..

  35. Buc1987 Says:

    tmax…you’re famous now…welcome aboard.

Look at all these posters barking up your tree….

Bark bark bark…enjoy it. I know you are.

  36. Buc1987 Says:

Goodness gracious they’re attacking…you DO have a right to your opinion. No matter how many times you post it. Freedom of speech and all. Have fun with it. Egg them on or something. Man you’ve got peeps chomping at the bit. This is awesome man. Bigger than Jameis Watch.

  37. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

T.J. Ward is injured, isn’t he? This is late news then, because Tandy will get increased snaps as a result.

  38. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    tmaxcon Says
“you are just butt hurt that I am 100% correct on my analysis…”

I cannot believe you think that is analysis…

  39. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    @Buc1987

Yeah, too bad he never contributes constructive elements to the conversations.

  40. I'm a Tandyman Bucs Fan Says:

If Ward is injured and Tandy plays and plays well again when Ward recovers Tandy will be on the bench again because Licht spend all that cash on Ward. If I were Tandy I would ask to be traded if they dumped on me a 2nd time. He is smarter, more prepared and better than both Conte and Ward. Play who helps you win, not the one that makes more or that you like the best!!!! DAMN MAN!!! Need to get real… Move Tandy to corner bet he would excel there…Got to be better than what we have at that position.

  41. RustyRhinos Says:

N.flbuc, see ya around. Can’t say that I have enjoyed the banter between us buc fans. Because this is the only post I recall ever seeing you post. I am proud you have the right to leave and “protest” your beliefs, just Wish you where as open to others who have a different view on their beliefs and how they promote them.

  42. RustyRhinos Says:

If TJ Ward takes over one of the safety positions I think this is a fantastic opportunity for our Defense. All during the Bikes game I was watching to see who would make the bike pay a little to give us the whooping they put on us. According to my eyes watching the game the one player who took it upon himself to kick @ss and take names was TJ Ward. He hit the Bikes players hard every time he tackled them he didn’t try to push them or nudge them or blow them up and miss trying to get a fumble. He smashed his tackles into the turf with him on top and a shoulder in their chest. I like his attitude on Defense, he brings his attitude every play, not just occasionally. Sad to hear that Tandy is getting less reps and playing time, been a fan of his since he was drafted. But I also want the best and physically enforcing players on the field. Is it me or do most of the time our D looks like they are afraid to hit a opponent hard enough to make them think twice about coming their way again.
    Go Bucs!

  43. WesTampaBuc Says:

I’m with the Tandy Brigade, anybody else just shows your player evaluation sucks. We got beat because of the weak azz cover 4 because we’re keeping it simple because Ward doesn’t know the Scheme nor playbook yet. Any disagreement means your analyzing sucks

  44. I'm a Tandyman Bucs Fan Says:

Way to stand up West Tampa Buc!!! Let’s call a spade a spade here. 2nd string QB torched our ass. Same will happen this weekend watch and see. Yep I’m a huge Tandy Fan but his play on the field spoke volumes about his preparation, anticipation, character and ability. Don’t understand his benching. Maybe if he layed an egg but he didn’t!!! Damn Shame…Think I will take a knee!!
