Thank DeSean Jackson

August 11th, 2017

Iron sharpens iron.

Joe understands why some Bucs fans wrung their hands over the secondary. While Joe was bullish on cornerback Vernon Hargreaves, more than a few Bucs fans were impatient and wanted to sign another starter.

That simply was not going to happen to a guy who was selected 11th overall last year.

With a full season under his belt and practicing against some of the best talent in the NFL on a daily basis, Hargreaves is a new and better corner.

“I don’t think I have a lack of confidence, but one thing I did lack was patience,” Hargreaves said. “I was rushing, trying to be the best already, but I had to go back in the office, go back, get to work, work on my craft and it’s paying off for me. I feel better, I feel like a different player.”

One way to improve back at the office is when your desk faces DeSean Jackson. The lightning fast receiver has been guarded much of the time in training camp by Hargreaves, who often has held his own. If Hargreaves could hang with Jackson, then Joe reasons he can hang with just about anyone.

That showed last night.

Hargreave’s atheltic and touchdown-saving interception at the goal line was a thing of beauty. Exactly what Dirk Koetter demanded of him on national radio this week.

It was a gorgeous interception…not surprised at all..CB’s don’t come out as Pro Bowlers their first year..

    and he’ll only get better…

I didn’t love this pick at the time and didn’t think he played all that great last year……I’m not gonna get too hyped over one play in the preseason but DAMN WAS THAT A GORGEOUS PLAY

That’s the kinda play only a few corners in the league can make

  3. SB Says:

Hey Creamsickle…………….That ish was Zactly what he used to do at UF and now it seems as if he is not afraid to do it in the NFL. If he “gets it” then we have a 10 yr corner.

Yes he was one of the top 2 or 3 corners in the country at uf. He was dang good as a freshman. I was surprised at his lack of big plays last year. I guess the first season lack of seasoning lives on. That was a great pick. Hopefully a huge year for him n the defense. Go bucs

Didnt think the bucs should have drafted him but hopefully plays like that against julio kelvin, etc

Desean Jackson will definitely help in VHIII’s evolution and Grimes’ longevity.

Playing against a high speed player like D-Jax with help both players immensely!

Playing against Mike Evans also prepares our guys to go against Kelvin Benjamin and Michael Thomas.

Helps our boys practice their hops!

Ronde took 4-5 years to get really good.

In my book, Vernon is doing spectacular.

I wanted Spawn with that pick. Never thought we would get both.

Anyone notice how the broadcast crew pointed out that we have ZERO CB depth last night? It’s simply the truth. Idk where anyone could possibly get the notion that we have a deep group of experienced CBs

  10. stpetebucsfan Says:

That broadcast crew was simply horrible. Who cares what they pointed out.
Ronde didn’t even know all the names and as much as I love the guy he totally embarrassed himself last night. He might as well have phoned it in.

I do not care what they said…how can they know what depth we have anywhere when they don’t even freaking take the time to do their homework.

I’m growing very suspicious of SOME former Bucs. They seem to have an axe to grind. I do not believe Ronde or Ian Beckles are very objective.

Sapp and DB 55 don’t seem to have that problem. But then they are now in the HOF so perhaps they’re a lot more comfortable in their own skins.

Should have watched the game with Cincinnati announcers. I would have killed to have one replay for the Bucs. VH3 Interception and they cut to commercial before he got his second foot down haha

I was more excited about the Hargreaves pick last year than ANY OTHER, and I’m saying that as a man who has despised the Gators for over 35 years.

DB’s are going to be good
