Pressure!

August 18th, 2017

GMC and the boys brought the heat.

It is a beautiful thing, pressure.

Specifically quarterback pressure. Few things in football get Joe worked up quite like laying the wood to the opposing quarterback, save for when Rachel Watson prowled the sidelines in a skimpy cheerbabe number.

Last night the Bucs did just that and it really didn’t surprise winning Bucs coach Dirk Koetter.

“Yeah, you know, our pass rush gave them some issues during practice [this week],” Koetter said. “So I think that we had the confidence that we could get pressure on them.”

There was a play early in the game where Bucs stud defensive tackle Gerald McCoy whipped around the right end on a stunt so quick, and bent so low to the ground when he was coming after Jags embattled quarterback Blake Bortles, that Joe initially thought it was Noah Spence.

Only until Joe grabbed his binoculars did he notice it was GMC. It was like he was shot out of a cannon. GMC didn’t get a sack as somehow Bortles got rid of the ball for a completion, but GMC did get credited for a quarterback hit on the play.

Robert Ayers, George Johnson also had official QB hits, and Lavonte David and Adarius Glanton had hits that also were punishing sacks. Joe was hoping to see Noah Spence look like a force, but it just wasn’t his night.

  1. Fred E. Bucs Says:

Glanton really did well…loved the LB bltiz a la Lavonte/Kwon style. I was sitting with his family at practice a couple of weeks ago, and they are excited and nervous for him…hopefully he keeps it up and earns his spot on the roster.

  2. Dano Says:

    Where was Spence last night?

  3. Easy Denman Says:

Outside of McCoy we have ZERO pass rush again. It’s gonna take our speed You Albany blitzing to get to the QBs.

  4. Dano Says:

Bucs starting DLine has 0 sacks in preseason.

  5. SCBucsFan Says:

Was interested to read GMac was one of two players who, on D, made the last 5 pro bowls along with P. Peterson. I wonder of Tmax threw his soda at the TV when he read that.

  6. Lamarcus Says:

As a gmc hater I loved what I seen outta him. This is my problem, somewhere in the game I notice gmc got absolutely mauled by some unknown player. This is my problem w him. No worries for gmc

I am worried about Spence making a impact. He looks small on the line and I doubt he can play lb.

  7. The Buc Realist Says:

They had no answer to when the Bucs rushed a 5th man, It really seemed they were working on LB rush last night!!! jags have a lot of work ahead of them!!!!!!!

  8. tmaxcon Says:

    SCBucsFan

of course I did not throw my soda. I was drinking Dales Pale Ale with a side of Jameson. No way that I would waste those fine spirits on a meaningless stat. Pro bowls mean less than nothing…. When they start throwing super bowl parades for pro bowl appearances instead of winning games that matter than maybe I’d be upset. it’s the same ole off season he spends the weeks before training camp crying woe is me and i must get better bs then has a few good early games and either gets hurt or disappears. go ahead and pound your chest over a meaningless play that he did not finish against a bad jaguar team. I’ll be impressed and even purchase a gmc jersey if he has a great game against a playoff team

  9. ScottyinFatAntonio Says:

If I hear one more time that this is only preseason, we are not going to show our looks until the regular season, I am going to explode. I have “seen that movie” for the last 10 years ever since Simeon left.

  10. SCBucsFan Says:

I don’t recall me saying I was impressed with anything last night, just stating he was ‘randomly’ picked for 5 straight pro bowls

  11. johnnybuc Says:

i was watching spence specifically every time he was in the game and he was beating his man on almost every play the problem was the jags were throwing short 5 yard throws so wasn’t able to get to qb in time

  12. Hawaiian Buc Says:

The clown just keeps on arguing with stupidity. It’s well beyond comedy at this point.

  13. Hawaiian Buc Says:

The reason this happens is because the other team gameplans away from McCoy when they realize no one else on the line can create pressure. It’s very easy to eliminate one person on a line when everyone else isn’t playing well. This is why the games that the ends are playing well, McCoy has great games. When you can’t focus solely on McCoy, he will kill you. This is fact.

  14. CautiousOptimism Says:

Ayers is such a non-factor I forget he is even on this roster. Is “Mr Beasting” much of a beast these days or ever?
This Dline is not scaring anyone right now. Mike Smith is a good coordinator so he will get the most out of them but why couldn’t we upgrade the talent level a bit? This could get embarrassing.

  15. celly Says:

I’m not sure if anyone else saw, but NS57 got LIT UP by the RB on one run play. It was bad.

  16. chris Says:

I have to share something with you guys. For years I’ve tried to get my son’s into football. My oldest has been watching Hard Knocks with me. He loves GMC, the enthusiasm , the Man Cave, Bat man, etc. As a former hater of GMC, I thank him and Hard Knocks as last night was the first full football game he and I watched together since we moved from Tampa to NC.

  17. tmaxcon Says:

    celly

yes he was abused on that play. almost flattened would be the term i use

    Hawaiian

start getting your excuses ready when your girl disappears in the real games. I can’t wait; you are going to have to get pretty creative this year

  18. Hawaiian Buc Says:

“This Dline is not scaring anyone right now. ”

I definitely am a little concerned as well, but I just keep telling myself it’s just the preseason. We aren’t doing anything schematically on defense, so I’m going to trust in our coaching staff to do better once the games start to count.

  19. shouldhavedraftedeifert Says:

@Dano no where near the QB man… I don’t know what his problem is. 3rd and long he keeps getting washed out. Totally a none factor on 3rd and long.

  20. Mike Says:

Celly, yeah, it was Yeldon who put a shoulder hit on him early in the game.

  21. The Buc Realist Says:

    @celly

he was getting past and looking at the Tackle and the RB sideswiped him in the helmet. It did not look good, but he did not see it!!! and just another example of how much teams pay attention to him!!!!!!

and we saw very basic defense last night!!!!! They are saving the exotic looks for the regular season!!!! (just like the offense) There was no play calling that were setting up looks, like they do in the regular season!!!!! Word on the street is after a couple of regular season games, then you will see the full complex, aggressive defense that will be the strength of the team until the offense is in full rhythm!!!!!!!

    Go Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  22. Bucsfanman Says:

@Cautious- No, no, no, you can’t criticize Mr. Beastly! He talks mean. Remember?!
I was happy to see more pressure from the d-line. In the Cincy game, it was non-existent.

  23. chris Says:

    Joe, the moderation is ridiculous.

  24. chris Says:

Lol but Tmax comments get in, smh

  25. BucEmUp Says:

Johnny Buc ive been screaming for years the reason they always come up short on sack numbers is soft coverage. Its never going to change they are too afraid to let our small corners push at the line and throw.off.the timing to help eliminate the slant routes. Seems like common sense to excersize it at least now and then but I dont think I’ve ever seen it buc corner jam a we….even when talib was here I wish they would get physical. Bottles is a hot mess so they looked good against a really bad team, let’s see what happens when the play hue Jackson in a true dress rehearsal next week

  26. D-Rome Says:

I was drinking Dales Pale Ale with a side of Jameson.

Is that what you are consuming every time you make a post here? If so, it would explain a lot! I’m telling you now, mark it down, if GMC makes three more pro-bowls and a couple of All Pro teams he will be in the Hall of Fame one day. That’s very achievable for a great DT like GMC.

On an unrelated note I gotta say Blake Bortles looked a lot like Josh Freeman when he was becoming unhinged.

  27. Jersey Buc Says:

Too early to sound paranoid, but is anyone else concerned about Spence? He continues to take too wide an arc to the QB, and is easily pushed past the QB. Still a lot of juke steps, and not much else. Looking like an all pro in practice against Bucs and Jags tackles is one thing…quite another against the Staley’s and Smith’s of the world.

  28. Makie Lovie Says:

GMC looked pretty good last night. I never realized how fast he is off the ball, until it was highlighted on HBOHK. It is only pre-season, so hope he keeps it up and breaks a trend. It does cause him to get a few encroachment penalties throughout the season. It would be worth it if the QB or RBs are blasted on their back like Spence was last night.

  29. Hawaiian Buc Says:

“start getting your excuses ready when your girl disappears in the real games”

    ——–

LMAO. Like I said, he’s beyond comedy at this point.

  30. Lamarcus Says:

    Hawaiin Buc

Gmc got caught sleeping and was pancaked to the ground in a 1 on 1 in the run game. I hope to be a recovering Gmc hater but those plaus remind me of why I think he is over rated.

  31. unbelievable Says:

The GMC haters are a funny bunch…

  32. JonBuc Says:

Am I the only one concerned that Spence has leaned out…which is a great look for the CC Causeway…not so much as an NFL DE. Has he become the true definition of a “tweener”? I sure hope not. He no doubt looks great in a Hooter’s homemade tank top though. 🙂

  33. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    @Lamarcus,

I’m watching the game now, and don’t see the play you are talking about. Perhaps you have him confused with someone else. Regardless, McCoy is an excellent run defender. That cannot be argued. Everyone gets pancaked occasionally, just like everyone in basketball gets dunked on sometimes. The other team gets paid to make plays too.

  34. Lamarcus Says:

That play was after the m Cole td drop which VH3 was covering. The commentary focus was on m cole and it was some simple run play to ivory. It could’ve been unnoticed cuz I had to rewind. I thought it was Spence getting that hammer. But it was gmc and after further review gmc was sleeping lol. No big deal it’s the norm

  35. Steven007 Says:

I see the apparently always drunk (thanks for the heads up) Trollmax/Cancermax, leader of the loser poster culture in case you’ve forgotten, is back with his usual drunk ramblings. And he brought junior posse of apparently blind “Bucs fans”. Thanks god they’re outnumbered by the sensible posters.

  36. 813bucboi Says:

It really seemed they were working on LB rush last night!!!

I said the same thing…and they looked good doing it too!!!…GO BUCS!!!

  37. The Buc Realist Says:

    @813bucbeachboi

I am glad you were paying attention!!!!!! Stay sober and don’t get pulled over!!!!!!!

The first couple of times I saw, I thought well the LB are blitzing and rushing well!!!!! After that, and it kept working, tells me that the Jags can’t adjust and are a mess right now!!!!!!!!!!!

    Go Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  38. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    @Lamarcus,

Boy, you sure are searching long and hard for a play like that. It was literally a 2 yard gain where he got his feet caught up a little bit. He was right there on the play. If you think that makes him overrated, then I don’t know what to tell you.

  39. Lamarcus Says:

Yes I didn’t have to search tho. It found me. He got caught napping. Just a preseason play tho I just thought to point it out after his dominating first quarter. Trolling? Maybe if ppl citizens Winston for 1 play I can’t let this go. Nick picking u bet

  40. DB55 Says:

Did anyone hear Grudens take on GMC? All I have to say is “Ditto” and I couldn’t have said it better myself.

  41. Hawaiian Buc Says:

” Trolling? Maybe if ppl citizens Winston for 1 play I can’t let this go. ”

    ———-

First of all, NOBODY loves Winston more than me. However, only a fool would even compare Winston making a horrendous decision to throw the ball up for grabs in the red zone to McCoy getting blocked to the ground on a 2 yard play. That’s really too ridiculous to even argue, and I know you know better.

  42. Hawaiian Buc Says:

“Did anyone hear Grudens take on GMC? All I have to say is “Ditto” and I couldn’t have said it better myself.”

    ————

I sure did. He said McCoy is an excellent player. He also said he is a different player than Sapp. He also said Sapp had more help from guys like Simeon Rice. He also said he would like to see him have the lead with 2 minutes left and to close the game out. His point (and any fool would understand this) was that he hasn’t had tmuch of an opportunity because they’ve been down so much. But like a typical hater, you twist it around to mean Gruden thinks McCoy doesn’t play when it counts. Again, too foolish to even argue.

  43. DB55 Says:

Do not respond to me Hawaii. I do not like you and do not care about your opinion. Thank you

  44. Lamarcus Says:

Gruden thinks and says every player is great. Even guys he never heard of. Which I think he suckk at commentary. Gruden belief is standaRd.

Remember we are talking Gmc getting maulrd by a 6th stringer on a jags depth.

  45. Lamarcus Says:

Tape didn’t lie. U can’t defend that. U can defend he is a good player but that play tho have me smh

    Damn

  46. Hawaiian Buc Says:

Dumber can’t handle talking with me. Poor baby, I’m so sorry.

  47. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    @Lamarcus,

Again, it’s one play on a 2 yard gain. Not sure why you think it was done by a backup, but it’s irrelevant. If that’s the worst thing you can say about McCoy, then he’s doing just fine.

  48. Hawaiian Buc Says:

My heart is truly broken. DB55 doesn’t like me. I don’t know if I can go on.

  49. Lamarcus Says:

No its why I love/hate gmc Im trying to love him but damn man that was horrific from a all pro vs ????
