Koetter: Time To Unleash The “Nasty”

August 10th, 2017

Dirk Koetter talks cut blocking

Here comes “nasty,” explained winning head Dirk Koetter yesterday.

Joe can’t wait. J.R. Sweezy gets to fully exit his cage.

The man affectionately known as the “asshole” of the Tampa Bay offensive line will get a green light on Friday night in Cincinnati.

Joe’s talking about right guard J.R. Sweezy, who has been hog-tied a bit by Bucs practice rules that prohibit offensive linemen from cut-blocking their defensive counterparts.

Speaking on SiriusXM NFL Radio yesterday, Koetter agreed with co-host Pat Kirwan that the tenacity and nasty side of Sweezy is ready to be unveiled fully.

“The hard part about practicing against yourself in training camp is we don’t let the defensive guys hit the quarterback, and we don’t let the offensive guys cut [block] and do some of the things J.R. likes to do,” Koetter said. “J.R. does have a nasty side to him that doesn’t always show up in practice because we don’t let him. I think he’s going to be a nice addition, especially setting the tone in the run game.”

Koetter also went on to praise Sweezy and Demar Dotson for their double team work. Joe can’t wait to see Jeremy McNichols run right.

Sweezy should be fun to watch on Friday in the preseason opener. The man must be aching to be unleashed after no football in 2016.

What’s a cut block? Warren Sapp does a great job explaining in this NFL Network video.

    Unleash the beast!!!

Man, I sure hope this guy plays well for us.

  2. BucEmUp Says:

Id like to see Rodgers tear some field up as well….he’s my favorite to retain the starting role this season if doug gets cut…or maybe even if he doesn’t.

THE BIG SWEEZ!!!!! Hope he holds up!

  3. teacherman777 Says:

F–k off to all the people kicking the man while he was down!!

    I am a true fan!

I pick my brothers up when they are down!

Unlike some of you fair-weather fans!

    Sweezy for sheezy son!!

    Shout out to Coach Snoop!!

I am so happy the wisdom of Coach Snoop is now part of the Bucs train!

    Go Bucs!

  4. BigHogHaynes Says:

First Preseason Game : I propose that Sweezy playes all of the first quarter and all of the third quarter!!! It’s time to see if that back can get the job done !!!

  5. Lord Cornelius Says:

Seems like there’s been a variety of well blocked runs and a variety of well blocked pockets for passes in TC; but then again we don’t really know till we see us against another team imo

  6. Pickgrin Says:

Whether its DBs vs receivers or Olinemen vs Dlinemen – I don’t ever like to see players blocking or hitting at their opponents knees.

The NFL completely eliminated chop blocks last year and should do the same with cut blocks. Just my opinion but I don’t think intentionally going after a guy’s knees should ever be legal in football.

  7. stpetebucsfan Says:

I grew up right across the river from Cincinnati in N. Ky. as a Bengals fan.

Of course a few decades ago when I moved to Tampa I switched to the Bucs. Home is where the heart is!! I love St. Pete and Tampa!!! I have no patience with transplants who still root for their old teams…don’t let the door hit you in the backside on the way back “home”.

All of my cousins are still in Ky and a couple of them are even Bengal season ticket holders. One thing you can say about the Bengals since Lewis took over…they are beyond nasty and downright dirty at times. I hope #3 sees a lot of the bench.

It’s a great team to measure our nastiness against.

BTW now that I spend 3 months on Michigans UP so the Bengals have dropped to my 3rd favorite with the local faves up here Green Bay my second favorite team.

And so it’s TAMPA BAY….then much lower..GB…and another drop to Cincinnati.

How about you guys….any teams you cheer for beyond Tampa…and of course NEVER when they play the Bucs.

  8. Mojiska Says:

Its not targeting knees, more changing the hit point in order to bring a guys body down. Helps keep hands down on qquick throws and slow down fast linemen. 1 on 1 is just fine. They did right to eliminate the high low stuff tho. Thats pretty cheap.

  9. 1Gr8Buc Says:

This is going to sound absolutely horrible but here it goes! I couldnt imagine being double teamed by JR and Dotson. I dont think there is a DL in the league who could beat that. Cant wait to see DOUG MARTIN running to the right this year! 😉

  10. JimmyJack Says:

Teacher man…….Your so happy Snoop Doggy Dog is part of the Bucs. The dude is a Steelers fan. He can bite me. Also, I saw him in concert and he was awful. This was about 20 into he’s career. The dudes a joke…..sorry but if you can’t perform your just not a good musician.

  11. AC Says:

Sweezy is a big motha f$&?er!! Seen him at the takeover and damn does that man have size! Can’t wait to see him maul these guys in the run game

  12. JimmyJack Says:

Yeah AC the dude is enormous. Somebody keep feeding this bohemuth more cheeseburgers. We need him to just squash a few Panthers and falcons this year.

I hope Dirk can figure a way to actually succeed for a change on third and inches and I hope it includes a jumbo package with that big fat monster we drafted with our last pick.

God I love big fat greasy nasty lineman!!!!

  13. JimmyJack Says:

You can put Gholston on that jumbo package too. Absolutely freakish size. Dude lines up surrounded by all 350 pound men and stick out like a sore thumb!!

  14. SOEbuc Says:

Who did they say got released toward the beginning of HK? I could of sworn they said Kevin Pamphile and was like WTF are they talking about?? Someone refresh my memory of who it was cus ima be pissed if they let Pamphile go and not remembering it.

  15. Dewey Selmon Says:

Starters are playing 1st quarter, if nothing else just try to get a run game established. And try to get OJ and Godwin their first catch. Godwin will get more snaps playing with the 2’s I expect him to make the most noise friday night.

  16. Dewey Selmon Says:

SOE. that got me also. Paplin

  17. Dewey Selmon Says:

Evan Panfil. say it real fast 3 times Defensive end.

  18. SOEbuc Says:

Thank you Dewey. That had me like OMG what in the hell has happened!!!

  19. RayJameisStadium Says:

    @1gr8Buc- I forgive the guy.

Although, i felt betrayed as a fan when it happened. But I let it go and let God. If he is meant to play for us it will happen. I just hope Licht redoes his contract similar to Sweezy did this year where is an incentive driven contract. I can’t see Doug not liking the offer after what he did.

It can be a win -win situation. With the team we have Martin “the pro-bowler” can help us reach the Super Bowl. But also think we have a good chance without him.

  20. Pickgrin Says:

Hey Jude (there goes your dude) to have surgery for a patellar fracture on rt knee according to BSPNs Jenna Laine…

  21. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I was afraid Koetter would resort to chop blocking eventually. It’s on of the reasons I hate the Falcons so much. It may be legal, but it ain’t right.

A lot of leg injuries happen because of chop blocks. It’s just wrong, and frankly, of all the things Goodelle has made rules against, I can’t believe he hasn’t addressed chop blocking.

  22. Pickgrin Says:

Chop blocking is not legal in the NFL as of last year Bonzai. (one playing cutting low while a player is in any way engaged with another player up higher)

Cut blocking still is though and there’s only so much difference as far as a guys knees are concerned. I agree with you in general as per my above comment.

  23. RayJameisStadium Says:

Sweezy 2017 success may allow the ride to the Super Bowl to be an easy one!!!

Less than 25 hours to kickoff!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  24. orlbucfan Says:

Bring on the Nasty, DK, but just make sure it’s smart! @st.pete: I was born in DC, and cut my pro football junkie teeth on the Redskins. So, they’re way down the list at #2. Pirate ship starts to sail in Cincy tomorrow night. Go Tampa Bay!!

  25. DoNUTS Says:

Hope “Nasty” does not equal penalty.

  26. teacherman777 Says:

    @jimmyjack

Snoop’s league has already produced a few pros!

He has helped downtrodden ghetto youth find an outlet and opportunity!

A man who helps to save lives is not a joke!

As a performer, i don’t really like him anymore either.

But did you hear his advice to Jeremy?

It was prophetic! He read his mind! He guessed it perfectly!

  27. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Pickgrin

I read cut blocking and thought chop blocking. Had a brain fart. lol
