Hunting For A Corner

August 31st, 2017

Checking lists.

Let’s just say things change.

Joe thought at the start of training camp the Bucs were deep at corner. After an injury to Hey Jude and now with Robert McClain dinged up, and Ryan Smith looking not ready for prime time, it might be time for Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht to go shopping.

The Bucs tried to force-feed Smith to be ready for the regular season, and he doesn’t look ready. To be fair, Smith has only played four preseason games in the NFL after being moved from safety late last season.

So with roughly 1,000 guys thrown out onto the streets in the coming hours as NFL teams shave their rosters from 90 to 53 by 4 p.m. Saturday, Joe has a hunch Licht is going to be very busy looking for another backup corner.

As bad as our backups were tonight, it shouldn’t be too hard to find a few that are better than our guys.

  2. Dreambig Says:

We need to find a competant back up QB. Fitz seems to move in slow motion and Sefo is just not good.

  3. Rr Says:

Too bad a great corner like Joe Hayden wasn’t available this week. Oh wait, he was.

  4. Joe Says:

    Sefo is just not good.

When Sefo had time to throw (ha!) he wasn’t awful.

  5. DB55 Says:

    Call Darrell Revis!

  6. SB Says:

Ryan Griffen has outplayed Fitz IMO. My opinion is just what it is though. I would feel more comfortable with Griffen.

  7. Rod Munch Says:

Joe – Sefo would have had 5 INTs in that game if the Redskins hadn’t dropped the ball. He’s terrible and not a legit NFL talent…. but yes, when he had time and a WR was open on a blown coverage he could hit a general area most of the time…

    …………
So you think Joe Hayden wanted to come here and be a Back up?

  9. unbelievable Says:

Anyone know when griffin is supposed to be back healthy?

  10. Rod Munch Says:

DB55 – I agree, there is zero chance Revis couldn’t walk in off the street and be, at worst, our 3rd best corner right now. The team has zero depth at the position and that has been true all off season even before the injuries.

  11. Lamarcus Says:

    Maybe 2 corners

  12. CautiousOptimism Says:

    HAHAHAHA….
So the the only thing that changed is that 3 scrubs are legit scrubs. Depth at corner to start preseason was fantasy.
Bigger fantasy was our starting DE lineup. Mr Yeasting and Co.
Damn I wish Lovie Smith would stop making personel decisions that make Jason Licht look bad! It’s all his fault. Licht can do no wrong.

  13. LifeOfABucFan Says:

Sefo did good enough as a 3rd backup..got us the only freaking TD in preseason..

Fitz..man..he caused my ovaries to explode and not in a good way..I think I became sterile tonight..TERRIBLE..

We do need some CB help though..watch the wire the next few days..

  14. R.O. Says:

Who cares about Sefo.. preseason is over.

  15. Rod Munch Says:

Sefo was terrible – he really was truly terrible and should have had a bunch of picks – he’ll never play a regular season down of football in his life. The Bucs will, I assume, grab someone that gets cut for the practice squad, someone that will have at least a tiny chance of being useful in case they ever had to play. Sefo isn’t that guy. Go watch his college highlights, the guy runs around and makes plays, but he shows very little arm, very little accuracy and doesn’t actually have the speed or playmaking ability to do that in the NFL. He’s like a taller, slower, weaker armed, less talented version of a cover band lead singer who was doing a Johnny football impersonation. I really don’t understand why the Bucs even signed him, he doesn’t any any NFL QB traits, certainly not for an offense like the Bucs run.

But hey he seems like a nice guy and any person that helps to rescue goats, well how could you not like them. Heck EA even made a special edition of Madden for him, they put GOAT right on the cover this year, so he’s got that going for him.

  16. BigMacAttack Says:

Right. Four man rush isn’t great. Linebackers look strong. Blitzing has been pretty good too. 3-4 is looking more like an effective option. I think it may take a couple games but defense will be alright. The offense definitely needs to step up and start carrying the team. They have to start putting points on the board. I believe the Miami game is going to be a lot tougher than many think. Jameis and Dirk have to outsmart that d line and if not, it’ll be a long day.

  17. Joe Says:

DB55 – I agree, there is zero chance Revis couldn’t walk in off the street and be, at worst, our 3rd best corner right now.

Perhaps. But Revis isn’t going to take a job just to take a job. He wants to be paid. Not sure Licht is prepared to pay Revis starters cash.

  18. Fsuking Says:

I’m glad we finally put to rest one ridiculous notion about our team. Now if we could just get you to see the Doug Martin at the end of the tunnel, we can get back to reality

  19. Buc15 Says:

Fitz might be one of the worst nfl qbs I have ever seen. I say cut him and roll with sefo until Griffin gets back. Then send Sefo to practice squizzzad

  20. LifeOfABucFan Says:

The way Koetter praised Fitz at the presser, he ain’t going anywhere..

  21. PRBucFan Says:

    fitzsawful needs to go lol

  22. Bird Says:

Didn’t quite get that comment from day one by the JOES. Corner depth = garbanzo. And then how many people commented to name a good #3 corner on any team.

Good thing is a guy or two should be cut that should be better then Ryan smith. That guy is beat by 1st, 2nd and 3rd string guys.

  23. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

Same weaknesses that were in the off season are dominating now and jason gump couldnt see that, 3 moves he gets a plus for is OJ, DJAX, K, but failure to address OL, edge and secondary will haunt this season

  24. DB55 Says:

    Joe

You should really know better than that, Revis complete and total garbage. Has been for 3 years. You guys are funny!

I told ya he was garbage his second ye here. You said he was still one of the best. Then he continued getting burnet left and right. Plus it won’t be long til he marries his mgr. did I say that? Oops. #Freeman’esk

  25. godzilla13 Says:

CB in round one, RB round two, DE round three.

  26. Rod Munch Says:

Joe – I agree that Revis would have to actually want the job – but not sure about that starter money part, if that is what Revis wants then I get why he doesn’t have a job right. But if he wanted like $5-mil for a year, why wouldn’t you give it to him when you’re paying Evan Smith $4.5-mil and paid George Johnson $3-mil last year. It’s not my millions being spent, but if it was I’d put some money on Revis – assuming of course he’s in shape and wants to play.

But I was mainly saying Revis would help the team, I don’t see how he can possibly not be better than Ryan Smith – I’m not convinced you’re not better than Ryan Smith.
