Buccaneers-Redskins, Open Thread

August 31st, 2017

Decision time nears. After tonight’s game, the final roster is set on Saturday.

Fire up the in-game chatter in the comments section all throughout the pregame show and to the final whistle tonight!

Please keep it respectful, but definitely mix it up before Joe’s award-winning postgame coverage.

There’s not much to keep an eye on, but Joe detailed a bunch below. Are you rooting for Joe Dirt?

Go Bucs!

Lets get that jit Riley Bully!!!!!!!!!

  2. BaldBuc Says:

Pulling for all our young Bucs; specifically our seventh rounder. Go Bucs!

  3. Jason Says:

Hope Riley Bullough shows he can do something in pass coverage or this is last time suiting up with this team.

  4. stopthemadness Says:

    No injuries please

  5. AlteredEgo Says:

Hope our back or the roster plays better than theirs…..and hope for a fun victory so these guys can walk off with smiles on their faces…grim reaper is nigh…

  6. Lamarcus Says:

Hope mcchild can salvage something. Can’t watch the game until Saturday morning.

  7. mark2001 Says:

Orlovski starting for the Rams tonight….doesn’t that name sound familiar? Three and out. Doesn’t that sound familiar?

  8. Seminole Bill Says:

After watching Hard Knocks this week, I think Riley Bullough’s days as a Buc are numbered. I could be wrong but it looks like the Hard Knocks folks are setting him up to fail.

  9. mark2001 Says:

Riley sounds like a good kid…but without the quickness and speed to do well with pass responsibilities at the NFL level. But as he comes from a well to do family, he will be fine. And he can’t say he didn’t give it his all…in contrast to the guys with the “numbers” that don’t love football.

  10. BuccaneEric75 Says:

Just read that the Seahawks are looking to trade Alex Collins. I liked him a lot in the draft last year. I’d take him over McWeapon. I’m hoping Collins gets cut and we swoop in.

  11. AlteredEgo Says:

Riley….hope he can continue to chase his team….if not….he’ll always be remembered as “Joe Dirt” around all of his close friends

  12. Rod Munch Says:

These local Channel 8 news commercials are some of the worst drivel I’ve ever seen.

  13. Doctor Stroud Says:

Jameis is chomping at the bit to get out there!

  14. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Delay of game, lol

  15. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Anyone know where to find the depth chart for this game?

  16. Rod Munch Says:

Barber did look good there – good shiftiness. Not sure if that can translate to the first team since I haven’t seen it before – but he looked good there.

  17. Aristotle Says:

Who’s recording this game? The back up camera man?

  18. Rod Munch Says:

I think Channel 8 hires the Bright House crews that do local high school games.

  19. Rod Munch Says:

    Dirk would punt here.

  20. Fire the glazers Says:

I don’t want to see fitz overthrow another WideOut… I’m getting flashbacks of the freeman era…

  21. Rod Munch Says:

Run up the middle on every 1st and 2nd down – Dirk is in regular season form.

  22. Rod Munch Says:

Thank god Dirk went for it there and didn’t punt – the offense needs rep. I never understand why you don’t use the preseason for all sorts of situations during the year.

  23. Rod Munch Says:

Wow, that last call takes me back to the 90s when I be tripping.

  24. Drew Says:

    Need a back up QB.

  25. THETRUTH Says:

Fitzpatrick is not look good at all, not impressed or comfortable with him leading team to be competitive if Need be.

  26. NJBucsFan Says:

    Ryan Crapatrick

  27. mark2001 Says:

24 yards Offense to their 91..really?

  28. mark2001 Says:

Excuse me…102. Are they playing their starters?

  29. mark2001 Says:

    123…sheesh….

  30. Billy buc Says:

Damn this Hurricane Irma has me bummed out. If the storm hits the the US coast the game will be cancelled!! Prayers that this storm goes back out to sea we don’t want to wait any longer for opening day and we sure as hell don’t want another disaster!!

  31. mark2001 Says:

Sounds like Beckwith can really play. One highlight.

  32. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    @mark2001

Try about 4-6 good plays so far for Beckwith. I know, that doesn’t fit your analogue, but some of us pay attention to the game.

  33. BucswinBucswin Says:

Fitzpatrick sucks and looks disinterested . Why is he here ? He’s been outplayed by 2nd 3rd and 4th stringers during camp.

  34. Rod Munch Says:

Wow this is terrible even for a 4th preseason game – not the Bucs playing poorly, just in how dull and boring this is. I’m not a Fitz truther but you guys judging him based on what we’re seeing is worthless, he’s playing with nobodies and has been doing so all preseason. Additionally Dirk is using an ultra bland simple playbook (which is to be expected). Again there is a reason the Bucs were going to make Glennon the best paid backup in the game – and this is why, it’s not easy finding a backup. But with Fitz his chance to do anything is almost nil without WRs and an o-line that is doing nothing.

  35. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Griffin got an extension this week. He’s injured, otherwise I don’t think Fitz would be on the team.

I want to seethis next QB play for us.

  36. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

If Liufau plays better, Fitz’s excuses are history. Liufau will have the same guys.

  37. Bucs Fan Since '76 Says:

Is it my imagination or do our backups on offense really stink?

  38. Rod Munch Says:

The GOAT rescuer is not an NFL level QB, go watch his college film, he’s pretty awful, I was shocked they brought him into camp. He was a good college football player that plays a college style, but his play style is not a fit for the NFL in the least. I don’t really care what he does in this game he’ll never play a regular season down.

  39. Rod Munch Says:

Actually Fitz is playing against 2nd and 3rd stringers, the goat rescuer will be playing against 3rd and 4th stringers – so it’s not really comparable at all.

  40. Rod Munch Says:

76 – Dirk is calling such a dull game I don’t know what you can take from this. The one pass to Goodwin was overthrown, that was a sure TD if it’s not, but short of that it’s been run up the middle, run up the middle, short pass to the flat, repeat. It’s preseason so boring dull play calling is what you get, so that isn’t a criticism of Dirk.

  41. DB55 Says:

Time for a DB55 repost. Read and laugh. But wtf do I know?

    DB55 Says:
    May 19th, 2017 at 10:50 am
12 TDs 17 TDs. Dude is garbage. Shouldn’t even be in the league, back-up or not.

    https://www.joebucsfan.com/2017/05/bucs-sign-ryan-fitzpatrick/

  42. Rod Munch Says:

If I was Hard Knocks I wouldn’t bother showing anything from this game. This could be one of the most boring games I’ve ever seen that the Bucs were involved with. Having the human ambien that is Chris Meyers calling this borefest is making it even worse.

  43. Rod Munch Says:

Wow DB… you said the same thing everyone else said. Amazing insight…

  44. AlteredEgo Says:

Waiting for the 4th string QB to show ….something….gawd if ya can’t throw darts…I don’t want to see ya Fitz

  45. Rod Munch Says:

Dirk running the football in the 2 min offense.

    Ugh…

  46. K_bassuka Says:

    Fitzpatrick stinks!

  47. BucswinBucswin Says:

Cut Fitzpatrick .. he sucks . Has done absolutely nothing during any pre season games. He’s awful

  48. Rod Munch Says:

Last week in the preseason Dirk punts inside the other teams 40, this week inside of 2 mins he doesn’t even try to move the ball he just runs the clock out.

It’s PRESEASON Dirk, go for it!

Wow – I hope the Dirk calling plays this year is the 2015 Dirk and not the dullard we saw last year that would sit on a 3 point lead in the 1st quarter like he had the 2002 Bucs defense to protect the lead.

  49. Rod Munch Says:

LOL you dopes getting upset that Fitzpatrick doesn’t look good throwing to the 4th WRs behind the 3rd string offensive line…

Get it a grip. I’m not a Fitz fan, I want Griffin to take his spot when he’s healthy, but you people having a mental meltdown is entertaining.

  50. DB55 Says:

    Rod

Come on bro you’re just being truthful or your reading skills are all fkd up. Don’t be mad bro, I’m just good like that. 😝

Even realist likes the signing and he’s nvr wrong. But wtf do I know? Lmao

  51. Rod Munch Says:

The fake news media hype on the next hurricane begins…

We already know what happens here, it curls out to sea. Hurricanes that far out that are that strong already turn out to see (meaning away from the US) like 99 out of 100 times. Who wants to bet?

  52. Rod Munch Says:

DB55 – You literally said the same thing every fan of the Jets said last year, as well as every national media person that watched the Jets last year. Like it’s OK to have the same opinion as everyone else, but when you claim it’s a shocking or original point of view, that’s just disingenuous.

  53. AlteredEgo Says:

    Cut….QB Harvard….

  54. Rod Munch Says:

GGGRRRR I’M ANGRY OVER GAME 4 OF THE PRESEASON!!!!

    GGGRRR!!!!

  55. K_bassuka Says:

    @Rod
Other QBs don’t seem to struggle that bad vs 3 stringers. The vet should be killing it.

  56. mark2001 Says:

Bonzai…can only tell you what I hear…. And Beckwith’s name has come up a number of times in a positive light.

That is the price you pay for multiple homes…not even 70 degrees today…..had to put a fire in the fire place, watch the Packers and listen to the Bucs on the Bucs.com feed.

  57. Easy Denman Says:

God can the regular season start already!

  58. Rod Munch Says:

K_bassuka – That’s really not how it works, when your coach has you running up the middle on every play and you make like 4 throws in the game and on each one you’re under heavy pressure, it really doesn’t tell you much.

Glennon looked terrible playing with the 2nd string the last 2 preseasons as well – no one cared.

Again I’m not a Fitz backer – if Griffin was healthy then I say cut him – but we got Fitz and those panicking are ridiculous, you can’t tell anything from the play calling we’ve seen – which again is what you get in most preseasons, although Dirk seems even more conservative than most.

  59. Destinjohnny Says:

We have line problems that will carry over during the season

  60. DB55 Says:

Why is everything an argument? Simply referring to the posters on JBF that day on that post. Now we take into consideration what the entire country thinks in order to attempt to disprove me. Whatever bro you’re right. I’m sure you would have said the same thing I did if you posted that day.

  61. Rod Munch Says:

Washington is just run blitzing on every first down now.

It’s impossible to know anything when you’re so predictable the other team calling out the plays before you run them.

  62. mark2001 Says:

BTW…notice I said SOUNDS like….what stinks is if I get NFL up here, Packers are blacked out as local broadcast up here, and when I’m in Florida, I don’t think the wife can’t even watch her Packers because they are considered local on my subscription, and of course when in Florida the Bucs are broadcast locally and don’t need NFL broadcast.

  63. Rod Munch Says:

DB55 – Not really, I would have been self aware enough to know I didn’t have anything original to say thus I wouldn’t be quoting myself like it was an original point of view.

  64. Rod Munch Says:

DB55- Also it’s the preseason and a truly awful game to watch,so if we don’t argue there won’t be anything to talk about.

  65. Defense Rules Says:

Has anyone figured out yet that in tonight’s game we have no OLine or DLine playing? The fact that Hawley, Wester & Benenoch (our primary backups?) are showing so poorly is kinda concerning. Tonight’s DLine doesn’t concern me so much because none of them will make the team more than likely. Outside CB depth is non-existent it looks like. Other than a handful of plays, most boring game I’ve seen in a long time.

  66. Dirtwood Says:

After the week I just had in Katy Texas I dont care if I sees rain for the next month. Don’t even want to think about another one. Just want to see some good football next week.

  67. Rod Munch Says:

Defense – The o-line has been awful like it has been for much of the preseason (minus the first few series of the Jacksonville game). Yeah it should be very very concerning, for what it’s worth ESPN had the Bucs o-line ranked 31st in the league last year when it comes to pass protection and how long they could protect before the QB got pressure.

However Dirk has been ridiculously predictable with play calling and the Redskins are just sending people to where the ball is going to be so I don’t know what you can take from it other than our backups can’t run the ball down the throat of the other team when they know it’s coming.

  68. Rod Munch Says:

THIS GOAT HERDER IS AWFUL!!!! CUT HIM NOW!!!!

  69. Defense Rules Says:

Agree play-calling is totally predictable, but there’s a lot to be said for smash-mouth football. Mano-a-mano? Our OLine is getting their butts handed to them on just about every play. Recognize these aren’t the starters, but dang, they might have to sub in if someone goes down. Weak link in the chain gets mercilessly picked on until they break. Our overall depth has improved, but we’re still quite shallow at a number of key positions.

  70. Blake_bucsfan Says:

Rod Munch, I have no personal beef with you, but you sound really ridiculous criticizing preseason play-calling. While we are purposefully keeping things simple.

  71. AlteredEgo Says:

Hey ! Marpet…lose the beard…errrr…don’t go on camera with that….love the hair and uke…

  72. Mike Evans GOAT Says:

This Indiana Wr Cobb is DESTROYING Ohio State. This is awesome

  73. Rod Munch Says:

Blake_bucsfan – I’m not actually criticizing the play calling, other than in the 2 min warning which was ridiculous, but I’m saying the play calling is so bland and predictable the other team knows what is coming and thus we’re not getting a real feel for what these guys can do. I’m just saying to the people panicking about everything that this is a terrible way to evaluate anything – at least from a fan standpoint.

  74. mark2001 Says:

One great thing… the next home game is for real and the fans will get their money’s worth. BTW..the Packer fans are really enjoying their home game.

  75. Ndog Says:

For as good a job that Licht has done for us to draft Justin Evans over a runningback like Dalvin Cook or others is just ridiculous.

  76. bucnut2 Says:

Hey all- reality check. we are not a deep team. If all key players stay healthy, this is 9 -7 team.

  77. Mike Evans GOAT Says:

    Mark 2001
People in Wisconsin would be happy watching paint dry. They are very easily amused.

  78. Mike Evans GOAT Says:

    Reality check
Buc nutz is still a troll

  79. Rod Munch Says:

Seriously – this is the worst game I’ve ever seen the Bucs play that I can remember. Even by game 4 of the preseason standards this is ridiculously boring – then you add Chris Meyers to the mix… well I know now what it was like to be in Jonestown.

  80. Dreambig Says:

McNichols SUCKS! He couldn’t block a Girl Scout

  81. Rod Munch Says:

People in Wisconsin are just happy to be able to take a dump with all that cheese backing up their fatso bodies.

  82. DoNUTS Says:

    Ndog
TO be fair, Dalvin was picked 41st and Evans 50th so he wasnt there to be picked by Bucs.

  83. Blake_bucsfan Says:

Ah ok well that’s far more reasonable then. But boy oh boy, our back up O-line is BAD.

  84. mark2001 Says:

Not really Evans…but for the 70’s they have been spoiled with good teams for half a century. Wish we could say the same. They live and die with the Packers…and season tickets are so hard to come by, they leave them in their wills so the kids don’t fight over them. And Frankly, the Northwoods, Land of Sky Blue waters, is only second to the Gulf in beauty…. the summer weather is much better in Wisconsin, the Winter in Florida. Why not have the best of both worlds?

  85. bucnut2 Says:

ME- please! AM i wrong, NOT!

  86. mark2001 Says:

And Evans…not so bad to miss most of the Hurricane season.

  87. stpetebucsfan Says:

Funny you mentioned Wisconsin Rod. Up here on Michigan’s Upper Peninsula I am unable to watch the Bucs game tonight.

Instead I was FORCED to watch the Green Bay-L.A. Rams “contest”.

It was just as boring!!! Each team had two series without a single first down!!!

    As MikeEvansGoat suggested…REALITY CHECK!

4th preseason games suck all across the NFL. Green Bay fans pack their stadium and even those fans were pretty challenged. I like rooting for GB when it’s not the Bucs but they were beyond boring tonight.

  88. aj Says:

Will anyone act like they want to make the roster?

  89. Rod Munch Says:

Joe should give everyone that makes it through this game a special honor for our usernames – has to be like some endurance or masochist badge next to our names. It would be like a purple heart in the military I’m thinking.

  90. Mike Evans GOAT Says:

I live in that $hit hole state. And it is exactly that, a $hit hole. Cold @ss winters and hot @ss bipolar summers. Nothing fun to do. And u know the saying,
Come to Wisconsin on vacation, leave on probation, and come back on revocation. Give me Florida and some sandy beaches any day of the week

  91. Landon Says:

    .66 x kenny bell = Mcweapon = bye bye

  92. NewTampaChris Says:

I would not be unhappy if the Bucs cut every offensive player in this game and just hit the waiver wire.

  93. Landon Says:

I’d be cool with that as well.. yuck

  94. Mike Evans GOAT Says:

    Mark2001
I survived hurricane Charlie in 04 in port charlotte and am happy I don’t have to indure that again.

  95. Rod Munch Says:

stpetebucsfan – I’m well aware of how boring 4th preseason games generally are, I’m not nearly as old as you but I’ve been through at least 30 from the Bucs – even a bunch on the radio since they were blacked out locally and then watched the replay… even by those standards this is an insanely poor preseason game, like the worst I can remember ever seeing. This game is special – just wait and watch the replay in real time if you don’t believe me. If I didn’t have this board here and didn’t have all my buddies on here to talk with, I’d have probably stuffed my head in a garbage compactor rather than make it to the end of this dullfest.

  96. stpetebucsfan Says:

    Mark

Amen brother!!! The beauty up here is just spectacular. My wife and I hike an hour to an hour and a half everyday…we stare out our window at Lake Superior…tonight we are supposed get a spectacular display of Northern Lights…we’ve had one day in July and August where the temp reached 80…mostly in the mid to upper 60’s…overnight lows as cool as 40…warmest was 62…we leave the windows open…listen to the lake and huddle under a giant German comforter.

OK now that everybody hates me I hope you’re happy Mark. LMAO

Trust me though….when Oct 1st rolls around I’ll love coming home to Florida…high temps and all. After three months of nothing but nature…cell phones do not work up here and the internet is primitive…I’m ready for urban living. Can’t wait to see some Buc and Lightning games and hey…St. Pete even has movie theaters!!! At heart wife and I are urbanites.

  97. Vegabuc Says:

So we got Ryan Fling Fitzpatrick as a backup. And this team got 4 (yes 4) passing yard entering the fourth quarter, but Colin Kaepernik still doesn’t have a job. Lol. Ok Jason

  98. Rod Munch Says:

Now we get the players faking injuries to get injury settlements rather than cut with no pay. Hey, I don’t blame them, if I had no chance to make the team I’d fake an injury to get like $90k.

  99. stpetebucsfan Says:

    Rod

Well at least you’re making me feel better. I was upset at not being able to watch it…sounds like I lucked out. BTW agree completely about Chris Meyers. He sucks at NASCAR too.

  100. Mike Evans GOAT Says:

U guys are way up north. I’m down here near Illinois. It’s all bears fans and fat chicks.

  101. mark2001 Says:

St. Pete… The game is 24 to 10…and it is sloppy, but seems would be a good game for evaluation purposes. But that is about all you can ask for a 4th preseason game.

Evans… I have to admit that College Football is much better in Florida…there are too many Riley type players on UW….slow overachievers often passed over by the football factories… with the exception of an occasional JJ Watt.

  102. Rod Munch Says:

Hansbrough will make the practice squad, he’s looked good all preseason.

  103. Rod Munch Says:

    BAH GAWD!!!! A TOUCH DOWN!!!!

  104. Mike Evans GOAT Says:

I don’t watch Wisconsin football. FSU all the way. I have a couple of buddies from high school that played for the badgers tho. UW Whitewater D3 football is pretty good tho

  105. Rod Munch Says:

    Hey Bobo made a play!

  106. Rod Munch Says:

A missed extra point and we go to OVERTIME!

  107. Landon Says:

Sefo!!! I wasn’t sure he could actually throw

  108. Rod Munch Says:

There is no conclusive proof to overturn that.

  109. Rod Munch Says:

    Landon – I know right! It’s shocking.

  110. Rod Munch Says:

    Nonsense.

  111. Landon Says:

Alright lets see if he can throw twice!!

  112. DB55 Says:

    Bobo>hump

  113. Landon Says:

The db touched bobos foot while he was down.. right call

  114. Landon Says:

Twice hes tried to throw across his body for near picks..

  115. Rod Munch Says:

There wasn’t any conclusive proof he touched him when he’s down – and it must be conclusive. Two weeks in a row the refs stole a TD from the offense.

  116. Rod Munch Says:

    A 6-3 barn burner!

Can’t wait for Dirk to drive into field goal range and take a knee to end the game.

  117. DB55 Says:

If stocker makes this team it will be a crime. Cross already took his job last yr and this Johnson 49? Looks bigger faster stronger. Build on youth. Get these old Bucs the hell out of here.

  118. SB Says:

    DB55 Says:
    August 31st, 2017 at 9:55 pm
    Bobo>hump
    ,,,,,,,,,,,,,
    LO Fn L!!!!

  119. Dreambig Says:

Redskins 3rd QB looks pretty decent. Wish we had him for a backup. He looks better than Fitz. Not that Fitz had any time tonight.

  120. ClearwaterWes Says:

A lot of people say we have depth, I dont know what they have been watching because I don’t see it. # first string health

  121. mark2001 Says:

Starters never see much in this game particularly, so this game doesn’t really concern me. We absolutely need to keep almost all of our starters healthy. The entire training camp and preseason seem to be predicated on it. Frankly, if more than a couple of these guys that played most of the evening on Offense or Defensive line play any extended playing time, we are in trouble. And I think Koetter and Licht know it.

  122. Rod Munch Says:

The goat rescuer had one nice play he can put on his YouTube channel and show to people when he tells them he played in the NFL and they don’t believe him.

  123. DB55 Says:

He is bro. Give him the same routes as hump watch him fly.

  124. Rod Munch Says:

ClearwaterWes – Agree on depth, the Bucs have good depth at RB, WR and TE and that’s it.

  125. Rod Munch Says:

Can’t wait to see how big Bobo’s head is on Hard Knocks – last week he thought he was an NFL starter based on him having sort of a good block on a run – this week he made a couple of plays, so I expect him to put on a show.

  126. mark2001 Says:

Rod…he will be rescuing goats one year from today….

  127. Landon Says:

Lb depth doesnt seem to be too bad.. glanton and beckwith can play.. hopefully Bond will be back sooner rather than later.. Oline depth will be fine when the season starts

  128. Rod Munch Says:

mark2001 – I’m thinking it will be more like one week from today.

  129. Landon Says:

at least hes got goat money now $$$$

  130. Rod Munch Says:

Landon – I don’t think the LB depth is all that good, with Bond and Beckwith you’re projecting in both cases, if both work out then next year we have OK depth, but right now we don’t even know who the 3rd LB starter will be.

  131. DB55 Says:

    Bam!

  132. mark2001 Says:

    Rod…probably true.

Landon…with his training camp money, he can corner the goat market…can’t he?

  133. SB Says:

I am headed to Texas for a few months to make insane money. I will be able to come to Every one of Tampa’s Playoff games no matter where they are! After following them since 76 I am more stoked than Ever!. But I don’t really look forward to going back to Tx.

  134. mark2001 Says:

The Goat Whisper…. Glad he got a TD pass….something to remember.

  135. Rod Munch Says:

    I hate Chris Meyers.

I really can’t say it enough.

I hope my hate rubs off on you and now you hate him as much as I do.

  136. SB Says:

You carry up here for Bears and Wolves. Down there you carry for fucwads!

  137. Landon Says:

Well I am pretty sure it was going to be bond starting until he got hurt, but the fact is some 60 percent of the time we will be in a nickel base with two backers on the field.. everything I have heard from the coaches out of camp regarding beckwith has been positive.. Glantons shown he can play well against two’s.. I am more concerned about WR behind ME13 and DJ11.. not sold on Godwin yet..

  138. SB Says:

    LOL Rod

  139. Landon Says:

Yes sir, training camp money buys a lot of goats at $100 a pop

  140. Landon Says:

    Sefo — “America’s Goat Rescuer”

  141. Rod Munch Says:

He’s not a goat salesman, he rescues goats.

So if your goat goes missing, you know who to call.

  142. NewTampaChris Says:

If you are on the field now, you know you are not making the team.

  143. Dave Says:

    Rod munch —

    Complaining about play calling ????
In a preseason game with a bunch of guys trying make the team????
    Really?

I’d love to see this game go into OT, it actually finally got entertaining once Dirk did more than run it up the middle on every play and was forced to mix it up even a tiny amount. Now I want to see the goat rescuer do his thing, get us into FG range, kick the FG, go into OT and lead a game winning drive and celebrate with his patented “bahhh bahhh bahhhh” game winning TD call he made famous in college!

Dave – I answered this above already buddy… I’m actually pointing out to the people complaining about the play that you can’t really take much from a game where every call is a run up the middle. You can point something out that is obvious and not be “complaining” about it.

You can’t cut an injured played without an injury settlement. How many injury timeouts will we get on this drive from players who have zero chance of making it in the NFL?
