Down Goes Hey Jude

August 9th, 2017

Needs examination.

The first significant injury of training camp may have happened.

Bucs cornerback Hey Jude was hurt today and per ESPN.com Bucs reporter Jenna Laine, Hey Jude will need an MRI.

Injury update: Cornerback Jude Adjei-Barimah missed practice Wednesday with a knee injury. It’s the same injury he was dealing with this offseason. He’ll be getting an MRI soon to determine the extent of it.

The good news: Joe believes corner may be the deepest position on the team. Hey Jude was one of three corners fighting for the nickel corner spot along with Javien Elliott and Robert McClain.

Ryan Smith, who hasn’t flashed at all this training camp, was sort of the darling of Bucs staffers’ eyes this spring. And of course, Josh Robinson, who was a backup corner last year, is on the roster as a backup safety, too.

Was hoping for Elliot or McClain to win starting spot anyway, but there is never anything wrong with depth and feel bad for Hey Jude cus Injuries hurt. Hope everything will turn out okay boss and you can return to the field as soon as possible.

  2. Ben the Ga Buc Says:

Yikes. Looks a little worse when you think of Joe’s comment that Ryan Smith has had a rough camp.

  3. LifeOfABucFan Says:

Elliot or McClain better anyway then the win-killer Hey Jude..

  4. Pickgrin Says:

Sorry to hear – hope it is minor – and/or get well soon Jude.

“Joe believes corner may be the deepest position on the team”

As Ronny R. often said – “Well…, there you go again”

“Good Depth” at a position implies that if a starter goes down – the back-up can step in to the starting role at a moments notice and be expected to play well in a game that counts with little drop off in capability.

Example – We have good depth at Guard and Center. If Marpet goes down, Evan Smith or Joe Hawley steps in and we have confidence they can do at least an adequate job. Same with guard among Pamphile, Sweezy, Evan Smith and Caleb Benenoch. Pamphile can actually play any spot on the line if necessary.

Can this really be said of our CB group Joe? If either Hargreaves or 34 year old Grimes goes down – are you honestly confident that any of the CBs on the roster behind them can step in on the outside and play close to the level the starters are playing at?

Unless the answer is a confident YES (which it couldn’t possibly be) – CB is pretty obviously NOT “the deepest position on the team”. Far from it in fact.

Bucs will be drafting a CB in either the 1st or 2nd round in 2018. Bank on it.

Joe is nuts if he thinks corner is an area of strength on this team…

Joe, I like you, but I don’t care what you’re seeing in practice, the depth chart is two players deep at corner and then a bunch of people who wouldn’t be on any other squad in the NFL. Short of Ryan Smith pulling a Ronde Barber, who was a complete non-factor his rookie season and never played, the corner depth is a major concern, not a strength.

    Poor guy.

    God bless his recovery.

A lot of these guys push themselves back too early in order to earn a living.

Stop treating these human beings, my brothers, as objects!

They are MEN with families to feed for gods sake!

    Have some g-d-damn COMPASSION!!!

Teacherman777…. Forever LOYAL to my Buccaneer brothers.

Prayers up for Brian Price as well.

Your an idiot. McCain was a starter on a Super Bowl defense 2 years ago. Elliot played well last year, and Ryan Smith is finally back at his NATURAL position. Seems like all the dumb@$$es come out on the negative articles. Please crawl back into your hole

  9. Fred E. Bucs Says:

Hope Jude is back to compete soon….

  10. JimmyJack Says:

I really thought we would hear more from Ryan Smith. The dude was very solid on STs last year, nearly an unsung hero. Thought that was a sign for more to come.

  11. BucTrooper Says:

Let’s remember… suspended last year for drugs and cost us a playoff spot with a 4th and Goal holding call away from the play. His presence on the bench can only help. 😤

  12. Fsuking Says:

Terrible news. Despite his label as “I suck, have sucked and will always suck” Jude, he very well could have been our #3 corner on the outside. Now we need to sign someone because unless Ryan Smith has it, we have zero depth

  13. Fsuking Says:

To be clear, McClain and Elliot have ZERO place on the outside. That’s just a fact. That’s why we aren’t “deep” at corner

  14. Fsuking Says:

$20 Josh Robinson is back at corner next practice

  15. Joe Says:

Can this really be said of our CB group Joe?

Don’t know of too many teams that have corners sitting on the bench that are as good as Brent Grimes or Vernon Hargreaves.

If the Bucs had guys on the bench that would make folks forget Grimes or Hargreaves, the Bucs wouldn’t have had to go out and sign Grimes and draft Hargreaves.

  16. Joe Says:

Joe, I like you, but I don’t care what you’re seeing in practice

Then spare yourself and your blood pressure and just read Buccaneers.com where everyone from the No. 90 piece of meat all the way up to Jameis are All Pros.

Not only is Joe watching practice, he also talks to people who call shots at One Buc each practice as well. If you prefer willful ignorance in your stories, Joe can point out some other websites that will fill your needs.
