Bucs-Bengals, Open Thread

August 11th, 2017

Kickoff at 7:30 p.m.

Fire up the in-game chatter in the comments section all throughout the pregame show and to the final whistle.

Please keep it respectful, but don’t hesitate to mix it up.

There’s so much to keep an eye on, even in the second half when future beer truck drivers, butchers and beet farmers take the field in Cincinnati.

Go Bucs!

“There’s so much to keep an eye on, even in the second half when future beer truck drivers, butchers and beet farmers take the field in Cincinnati.”

You’ve been cracking me with lines like this for a long time Joe. They’ll never get old.

  2. Canadabucsfan Says:

Go bucs!I expect to see a lot of #29 , #80, #12, and I hope to see a solid effort from Ryan Griffin. Would love to have confidence in backups. Of course the next 4 weeeks should be the only time I see him on the feild this year but it’s always great to see progression in the systems in place for all levels. Also, I found my way to see all hard knocks episodes so thanks to all of you who helped me out . Appreciate it Joe.

  3. Dewey Selmon Says:

If you have a couple beers in you and squint real hard that looks like Kay Adams! She is our good luck charm this year. GO BUCS!!!

  4. Canadabucsfan Says:

Wouldn’t mind seeing McNichols beat the linebackers tonight.

    1) No injuries – Shaz is on point!

    2) Stoked about the rookie class!

    3) Our uniforms are still ugly!

  8. Marquee Mark Says:

Cant wait to see our #2s and #3s in action.

  9. Gencoimports Says:

    No major injuries please.

  10. RayJameisStadium Says:

    Licht has made preseason interesting!!!!

  20. MadMax Says:

    we are on fire baby!

  21. aj Says:

Man, Cincy is playing those safeties deep.

  22. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Cut Hump!!!!!

    Just kidding.

  23. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Inside the 5!

  24. ARGH_M8E Says:

    didn’t see that coming

  25. stpetebucsfan Says:

THX Bonzai…..stats look like #3 is hot.

  26. ARGH_M8E Says:

Could’ve sworn we were getting 6, these boys r gonna b tough to stop… Jameis needs to put some touch on those and were good

  27. ARGH_M8E Says:

    Nice drive

  28. MarineBucsFan Says:

Really impressive first drive. Stopped for 3 but impressive!!! Go Bucs

  29. Mike Says:

Unbelievable drive! I’ve been a hater, but I’m being convinced

  30. JAB83 Says:

ROW row RowBertohhhhhhh….. With a field goal from 20 that would of been good from 50!!!!!

  31. Bird Says:

Wow. That was a big let down

  32. stpetebucsfan Says:

OK I think I’ve seen enough of #3 and ME13.

    Let’s see who is better tonight…Fitz or Griffen…and let’s keep #3 healthy!

Ohnono for less distance than an extra point. Anything proved by that kick?

  33. Rod Munch Says:

Why do we get punished by having Chris Meyers do our games? What did we do as Bucs fans to deserve this?

  34. JameisDungy Says:

Dirk has to improve as a play caller in the red zone..

Didn’t we get OJ Howard to help us in the red zone? Why weren’t we under center either pounding it for 2 yards or looking to rollout and throw it to him?

  35. JAB83 Says:

57 splash play in run game!!! Sweet!!!

  36. lurker Says:

    where’s the defense?

  37. Rod Munch Says:

Chris Meyers is a moron, he is awful.

  38. ARGH_M8E Says:

    VH3 yeah boiiiiii

  39. lurker Says:

    alrighty then

    ask and ye shall receive.

    a turnover!

  40. Walter Says:

    VH III

  41. Bird Says:

Wow. What a pick. He listened to coach

  42. MadMax Says:

    VH3 INT at the 2!!!!

  43. JAB83 Says:

My man!!!! Thats a beautiful thing… Over under 10 picks this year??? Im taking over…. 11 picks!!!

  44. Johnnie Says:

Def looked aweful in pass rush and against the run

  45. DB55 Says:

NASTY! 1 point for the gator.

  46. Canadabucsfan Says:

Man. I called that pick before the snap by VHG. Amazing play. Fast feet

  47. Johnnie Says:

    Spence flashed

  48. Rod Munch Says:

Oh no, why is Winston still in there? Take him out coach!

  49. MadMax Says:

    at the 1, my bad

  50. Doctor Stroud Says:

Watching the Bengals broadcast on NFL Game Pass. Just before the pick, the announcer said: “Oh, this drive is going to the end zone!” Great job, VHIII!

  51. Rod Munch Says:

I’ve successfully called every run up the middle that Dirk has ran!

To his credit Dirk mixed up the opening series more than he did at anytime last year in the first half, so that is a very very positive thing.

  52. Rod Munch Says:

Doctor Stroud – Watching the Bucs broadcast Chris Meyers doesn’t even acknowledge the INT even after Barber says the ball has been intercepted – it had to be at least 30 seconds before dummy Meyers realized there was an INT. Talk about the least exciting piece of garbage in broadcast, I hate the guy, he’s awful at his job.

  53. Canadabucsfan Says:

Johnnie . I agree. Spence just about had a hand on that pass to Lafell as well. Would have been a sack too if Dalton turned to pass to his left instead. Solid start.

  54. Doctor Stroud Says:

My diagnosis is that Chris Meyers is suffering from an acute case of proprioception.

  55. Rod Munch Says:

Side note: Tannehill officially goes on the IR.

  56. JameisDungy Says:

Running game has to be better.

  57. Canadabucsfan Says:

Yeah… this broadcast is just horrid. Like stfu and speak about the plays infront of you…

  58. JameisDungy Says:

Jameis needs to use more touch there, but Evans should catch it.

However, why aren’t we running that play for Jackson or Godwin.

That should be more for YAC guys.

  59. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

No one commented on how Joe Hawley overpowered his guy and drive him upi the field????

    Wow.

Man shows he has power when healthy and no one notices lol

  60. DB55 Says:

    Gotta lead the receiver.

  61. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Canadabucsfan Says
“Yeah… this broadcast is just horrid. Like stfu and speak about the plays infront of you…”

    That’s how NBC is.

  62. DB55 Says:

    Bonzai

Can his knees hold out? Luv the guy but his knees though

  63. I'm tired and 87 is right Says:

Bengals broadcast sucks even more! Why is it that I live in Florida and can’t even watch my Bucs on tv. They should allow all season ticket holders to be able to watch their team for free. Go Bucs!! Looking forward to the drive this season!

  64. JabooBuc Says:

I’m sorry but Baker is just plain fat and out of shape.

  65. Johnnie Says:

1st group of safeties didn’t impress me

  66. DR FEELGOOD Says:

While I LOVE Ronde and feel he should be a HOF, dude needs to do his homework. He has mispronounced the names of FOUR Bucs players (for example, Chris “Goodwin”), and said Doug Martin would miss the first few months of the season. C’mon Ronde!! You’re better than that!!

  67. DB55 Says:

Now the fun begins. Watching 21, 51, 59

  68. Johnnie Says:

    29 isn’t ready

  69. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    DB55 Says
    “Bonzai

Can his knees hold out? Luv the guy but his knees though”

That’s the big question. This is the strongest he’s played since coming here though…so they seem to be healthier than before.

But I’m nervous about his long term health too.

  70. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Being a backup probably will help him get healthier if he needs to.

  71. DB55 Says:

    Mixon and Boyd. Wow!

    Coulda shoulda woulda

  72. Canadabucsfan Says:

Who else noticed how bad conte was on the first defensive series? He didn’t even jog when he was in range to tackle mixon

  73. Rod Munch Says:

I wonder what Joe thinks about future HOF Ronde Barber saying the Bucs have no depth at corner after Joe called it the deepest position on the team…

  74. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    @Canadabucsfan

I’m not really worried about Conte. He’s the sort that always does better in regular season than in preseason. As a result, people call him out in Preseason, but he always plays well later.

  75. Johnnie Says:

    98 better than baker

  76. Johnnie Says:

    Hargreaves is better

  77. Bird Says:

Ryan smith – that boy good he good. Hhhmmmhhmmm. Good and terrible.

  78. Johnnie Says:

    I want to see mcnicols

  79. DB55 Says:

    Sensual chocolate everyone sensual chocolate

  80. Johnnie Says:

    Winston look good

  81. I'm tired and 87 is right Says:

Joe I know you banned 1987 but everyone of my comments is under moderation when I have done nothing. Im not 1987 but he is right. Can you fix that please?

  82. Rod Munch Says:

McNic isn’t getting in the game until much later if that Hard Knocks footage was a legit – he’s going to get his QB killed if he can’t pass block and doesn’t know his assignment.

  83. DB55 Says:

    Bird

You could say that about Mixon though. Instead we got 21 Evans. Let’s see

Welp a TDs would have helped his cause

  84. Doctor Stroud Says:

Will the Bucs really keep three QBs?

  85. Johnnie Says:

    Huff just made team

  86. ATrain Says:

    Huff just upped his standing

  87. Johnnie Says:

    He will be returner

  88. MadMax Says:

    Nice return Huff!

  89. ARGH_M8E Says:

    There goes happy feet

  90. Doctor Stroud Says:

Just saw Wallace Gilberry. Oh the memories!

  91. MarineBucsFan Says:

DB55, Jameis could have led him better but Evans got cute and tried to one hand catch that pass. Should have been a easy reception for first down.

  92. Rod Munch Says:

Some terrible run blocking in this game by the Bucs.

  93. DB55 Says:

So monkin must walk into the WR room on Wednesday and his very first words are-

When you catch a pass GET DOWN IMMEDIATELY

  94. JameisDungy Says:

Man if we can’t run the ball…

Huff looking like he’s trying to make the roster.

  95. ATrain Says:

    What does
Waiting for moderation mean after your comment

  96. Rod Munch Says:

Who cares on that Evans drop – it was the 2nd quarter, the best thing that could happen was to drop that pass and punt and get Winston, Evans and Jackson out of the game.

  97. DR FEELGOOD Says:

Huff needs to become the 5th WR and return man. If he does so, then God is finally a Bucs fan!!

  98. lurker Says:

woulda punted in reg season game, but nice get

  99. Doctor Stroud Says:

    Overthrew the lounge singer!

  100. lurker Says:

    wow, fitz

  101. JameisDungy Says:

Need to try and get OJ Howard some targets…

  102. Rod Munch Says:

    We have a fullback!?!?!

    I had no idea.

  103. MarineBucsFan Says:

The offense line looks really good

  104. Rod Munch Says:

    Nice run by Sims.

    Another nice run by Sims.

  105. ARGH_M8E Says:

Happy feet looking like Forte in his prime now

  106. unbelievable Says:

Sims with the spins. Maybe this is how he can run between the tackles lol?

  107. Rod Munch Says:

OK seen enough of Sims, get him out before he gets injured. He’s a super valuable 3rd down back – Dirk needs to use him like one like he did in 2015. If Sims can just stay healthy, if if if…

  108. Johnnie Says:

I agree huff should be number 5 wr and returner

  109. Rod Munch Says:

Dirk running Sims up the middle on 1st and 2nd down is moronic – he’s not that guy, he’s not a 3 down back. He can do stuff in spurts but he’s a pass receiver and a guy you run out of shotgun. I don’t get how Dirk can do that so well in 2015 and then seemingly forget how to use him last year.

  110. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Fitz suks. Hope Griffin impresses.

  111. unbelievable Says:

Man, trying to watch this game through some crappy bootleg site since it’s definitely not televised in california, and it’s honestly a nightmare.

Besides the non-stop ads covering the video player that have to be deleted, it also randomly redirects to some spam ad page so then I have to reload and start all over again deleting the ads 1 by 1….

Almost makes game pass seem worth it.

  112. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Man new he couldn’t complete a pass, so he ran.

  113. Rod Munch Says:

Strongly doubt Huff makes this team. He had a nice return in this game, then last year when it matters he’s fumbling the ball out of bounds at the 3 on a kickoff return – not to mention dropping like 80% of everything thrown his way. I don’t see how he makes the team – instead watch the waiver for any good returner, there has to be someone out there.

  114. DB55 Says:

This is not Koetter’s offense. What will he do with his oline?

  115. ARGH_M8E Says:

    Fitzy, the smaaaaaart kid TD

  116. MadMax Says:

    GJ Fitz!!!!

  117. lurker Says:

    lol, what?

  118. ARGH_M8E Says:

    RobertOooooohNo

  119. Rod Munch Says:

    Oh no… why Roberto, why…

That literally might have just got him cut.

  120. unbelievable Says:

@Rod, I don’t think he forgot last year.

He was next on the depth chart and Dirk wanted to see if he could handle the load. The problem is we all saw that he couldn’t do it after 1 game, but Dirk wanted to keep pressing him.

AgauyNo with an extra point miss? He might be gone real soon….

  121. DB55 Says:

    Wow!

  122. Bird Says:

Oh boy. Aguayo He can’t be the guy. Sorry.

  123. MarineBucsFan Says:

    Man, Fitzpatrick is deceptively fast!!!

  124. lurker Says:

    ruh-roh!

  125. MadMax Says:

    Aguayno!!! th Fk!

  126. ARGH_M8E Says:

Off with his head lol, smh

  127. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I doubt that got him cut…but it won’t help.

  128. BurgDweller Says:

    Roberto no extra pointo

  129. Doctor Stroud Says:

    Capece is kaput…Aguayo esta acabado.

  130. JameisDungy Says:

Kind of troubling that the QB scramble is still our best option in the red zone…

    Dirk….

    Roberto’s gotta be better.

  131. DBS Says:

    The kiss of death??

  132. Eric Says:

Only gonna say this once. This. Is. Preseason. Calm down.

  133. Dr A Says:

    Adios Roberto.

  134. darin Says:

First time ive ever cheered when bucs kicker missed. Go folk

  135. BobbyBuc Says:

Omg he missed the extra point SMH

    Get rid of him already!!!

  136. Bucs Says:

I am sick and tired of aquaynoooooooo

Just cut him already. Sets up to the right and then shanks it RIGHT!!!

  137. MarineBucsFan Says:

Just cut Aguayo now and bring competition for Folk. This is unbelievable SMH

  138. NewTampaChris Says:

    Roberto must go!

  139. Rod Munch Says:

It’s now Folk’s job to lose.

What a shame, Roberto is going to go somewhere and kick for a decade, but kickers last forever so maybe Folk will be here for a decade.

  140. ARGH_M8E Says:

    Ba-Bye✌️ Bring in a 3rd kicker

  141. Johnnie Says:

    Ruberto done

  142. MadMax Says:

Alright, play folk the rest of the game….i want to see his kickoffs vs OHNO!

  143. Blake_bucsfan Says:

Thats it, get him outta here. If you can’t make an extra point in preseason he’ll never be of any use.

  144. aguayos agent Says:

    Gulp

  145. Dewey Selmon Says:

how long until the Fitz mob wants him to replace Jameis!

  146. Johnnie Says:

I wanted rerboto to win to

  147. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    darin Says
“First time ive ever cheered when bucs kicker missed.”

Then go cheer for another team.

  148. Canadabucsfan Says:

For real Roberto…. does anyone else ever notice how he never looks up at all when he kicks like a golfer would hit a ball. He needs to get his head up a tad more than that. He doesn’t even know where he’s kicking lol

  149. Canadabucsfan Says:

For real Roberto…. who sees how he never looks up at all when he kicks like a golfer would hit a ball. He needs to get his head up a tad more than that. He doesn’t even know where he’s kicking lol

  150. Dr A Says:

Don’t get why he’s kicking from that hash when his first kick veered right. Idiot.

  151. Alaskabuc Says:

Meet our new kicker, Nick Folk

  152. Canadabucsfan Says:

Sorry not sure why that duplicate happened guys.

  153. ATrain Says:

    A-gone-o

  154. Doctor Stroud Says:

The Bengals announcers are calling Aguayo a “disaster”.

  155. ARGH_M8E Says:

Mix on is a BEAST, in more ways than one

  156. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Canadabucsfan Says
“For real Roberto…. does anyone else ever notice how he never looks up at all when he kicks like a golfer would hit a ball. He needs to get his head up a tad more than that. ”

I pointed this out last year and was mocked for saying it. It’s like shooting a gun…you aim through the target.

  157. ARGH_M8E Says:

    Siri u b!tch^

  158. Rod Munch Says:

Chris Meyers is a moron – the kicking didn’t cost the Bucs any games last year you dolt. I hate this guy and he drags Ronde down with him – watch as Ronde suddenly becomes a top color guy the moment he gets unpaired with Meyers. The guy is terrible.

  159. James Walker Says:

He missed it on purpose for HBO drama……I hope.

  160. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

For what it’s worth, I’d rather Roberto miss extra points than field goals…

  161. Canadabucsfan Says:

Exactly Bonzai. It’s like he’s doing the classic shooter mcgavin no look putt…. but doesn’t actually drain it. Lol

  162. Bucs Says:

I’m pretty sure missed field goals cost us a couple games last year so…….

  163. DBS Says:

Ya we got that message already!!

  164. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Rod Munch Says
“…the kicking didn’t cost the Bucs any games last year…”

And Roberto actually won a game for us last year. Only scores in the game.

  165. ARGH_M8E Says:

HE’S UNRELIABLE, CUT OUR LOSSES AND MOVE THE F ON!!!!!!!!

  166. James Walker Says:

Honestly, is kicking FG that much different in college than the NFL? I am not an expert on the position…

  167. unbelievable Says:

that’s some bs man, he was clearly pulling his arms up before even making contact. Roonde was right- ticky tacky for sure.

  168. Rod Munch Says:

No kicking didn’t cost the Bucs any games last year – Roberto actually made his only kicks that mattered (Panthers/Chiefs). The only game you could make any claim that kicking cost us was the Rams game, but you have to really reach to try to pin it on kicking.

  169. Canadabucsfan Says:

Didn’t he miss one on the Oakland shootout? That would have taken us away from having to play OT? I could be wrong

  170. JameisDungy Says:

Really think the Bucs should have moved up and got either Cook or Mixon in the 2nd round or just drafted Kamara.

We need explosive backs with the way our Oline blocks.

  171. Canadabucsfan Says:

Elliott looks aggressive . I like it.

  172. Rod Munch Says:

Well lets see if Dirk tries to get us into long FG range here and give Roberto another chance.

  173. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

JameisDungy, you are aware it’s the backups right? The oline opened up holes when starters were in.

Plus, you have to expect a little rust…two out of 5 are playing new positions.

  174. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Griff!

  175. MarineBucsFan Says:

Maybe we can take who ever loses the Bengals kicking competition

  176. JameisDungy Says:

    Jameis
    Mixon or Cook or Kamara
    Evans
    Jackson
    Godwin
    Brate
    Howard
    Humphries

    man..
Maybe our rookie RB can be gem or we’ll have to hope for one next year.

  177. Rod Munch Says:

    There’s the Huff I know.

  178. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Sure…make Huff the #5…

    …Camp Meat.

  179. JameisDungy Says:

    Buccaneer Bonzai

I get what you’re saying. However, the eye test doesn’t lie. Our line just doesn’t allow a lot of time for our backs. We need someone who can explode through without a lot of time.

Huff needed to make that catch.

  180. JameisDungy Says:

I like what I’m seeing from Griffin.

  181. DB55 Says:

We could have drafted Jordan Willis too.

  182. BigHogHaynes Says:

The Mitigating Factor…..what did I tell ya!!!

  183. Rod Munch Says:

    Nice punt and tackle.

  184. lurker Says:

    offside, no calls

  185. unbelievable Says:

Man rObinson is a ST stud. SO fast.

  186. lurker Says:

    love me some anger!

  187. MarineBucsFan Says:

    Anger is a beast

  188. ARGH_M8E Says:

    The Godfather

  189. BigHogHaynes Says:

Calling Colin ……..do it..do it now!!

  190. Rod Munch Says:

Wimp sideline reporter not asking about the missed kick – that’s all anyone wanted to hear Dirk comment on since Dirk’s hatred for kickers always comes through.

  191. feelthepewterpower Says:

On the bright side were looking for a field goal kicker…and he is 1/1 on fg’s.

  192. Blake_bucsfan Says:

    @bighoghaynes

Colin Kaepernick is garbage dude. Give it up, because when you lobby for that dude as if he wasnt one of the worst Qb’s in the league for the last 2 year, you make yourself look like a fool.

  193. Oxycondoms Says:

Disappointing jameis couldn’t give Evans a catchable ball 2 times in row

  194. DBS Says:

On the dark side… We see the 1st string offense can still move the ball down field in the first quarter and screw it up inside the Red Zone.

  195. Rod Munch Says:

Winston did pretty well tonight, he has high on a few of his passes but that’s normal early in games. Doug didn’t barely touch the ball but he looked good when he did, he certainly has his burst back – I think Joe and his campaign to run Doug out of town is going to fail.

Dirk had a better offensive night than he did any game last season when he was ultra conservative and super predictable – tonight he didn’t run it up the middle on every first down, he only did it like 4 times, so that’s a huge improvement.

I didn’t see any injuries either – so hopefully that is the case.

Overall it was a productive first half. Normally these are super sloppy and the 1st teamers barely play, but that wasn’t the case here, you had one long solid drive by the offense and one long drive on the defense but they made the play when they had to.

    So far, so good…

  196. ARGH_M8E Says:

    Ain’t happening Hog

  197. Rod Munch Says:

Blake_bucsfan – No, Chris Meyers is garbage, Colin is like the floor of an interstate bathroom glory hole, he’s way way way beneath being a piece of garbage.

  198. ARGH_M8E Says:

Anyone else see us carrying 3 QB’s? I do

  199. JameisDungy Says:

    BUCS should sign Branden Albert.

    The more Olineman the better.

  200. ARGH_M8E Says:

    Wait n see I guess

  201. Rod Munch Says:

If I was a coach I’d force my kickers to kick extra points from the middle of the field. I know they claim kickers like kicking from the angle but man you hardly see those kicks from that distance missed in the game from the center of the field, but extra points from the same distance from the angle seem to get missed more often. I wonder if anyone has stats based on where the ball is within the hashmarks from that XP distance.

  202. Jeffbuc Says:

I would be surprised if aguayo is on the team come monday. You know this is your last shot and you miss an extra point. He is a mental midget

  203. Rod Munch Says:

JameisDungy – Certainly wouldn’t hurt to bring in Albert, I don’t see why they wouldn’t want to, it’s not like anyone wants our 3rd string tackle so they can be put on the practice squad with little fear of losing them if Albert looked OK.

  204. MadMax Says:

Myers!!! It was Peyton not Doug on the 4th…th fk dude!!

  205. Rod Munch Says:

    Is Beckwith playing MLB?

  206. David Says:

    @blakebucsfan

“Colin Kaepernick is garbage dude. Give it up, because when you lobby for that dude as if he wasnt one of the worst Qb’s in the league for the last 2 year, you make yourself look like a fool.”

Despite ur obvious bias, he wasn’t one of the worst QBs in the leagle the last couple of years. His team sucked. He was better than Fitzpatrick! I don’t think we should run out and sign him but let ur prejudice down and look at facts before posting or u make YOURSELF look like a fool. Js.

  207. Johnnie Says:

    Beckeith better than bond

  208. Johnnie Says:

Nice tackle by evans at least he showed

  209. ScottyinFatAntonio Says:

LMAO! You should be listening Gene on the radio, he isn’t getting ANY players namesvright.

  210. Canadabucsfan Says:

    Omg Elliott is hurt

  211. Blake_bucsfan Says:

Cut # 71 holy crap that was ugly.

  212. Johnnie Says:

    Smith is sorry

  213. Rod Munch Says:

Ryan Smith is the new Rod “The Toast” Jones, that’s all I can think of when I watch him play – although Rod was a 1st round bust, at worst Ryan Smith is a waste of a 4th rounder, although a very high 4th rounder.

  214. Johnnie Says:

He not ready to be a back up corner

  215. MadMax Says:

    Yes Beckwith is playing mlb.

  216. Johnnie Says:

I’m dissappointed in evans so far too

  217. aj Says:

Bond looked terrible on that run, too. Got totally turned around. Hope he gets better as he is listed as a starter now.

  218. unbelievable Says:

LOL at the hatred towards Kap on here.

Obviously it’s not about his play, because he’s certainly better than half the backups in the league right now.

  219. Rod Munch Says:

MadMax – Interesting that Beckwith is at MLB since he’s supposed to be competing with Bond at OLB. He was a MLB at LSU and he’s very big. Could just be he was playing with the 2nd team was all.

Still waiting for Joe Dirt to make his debut – I’m hoping he gets some Joe Dirt chants. I doubt he makes the team but it’s a great nickname even if he hates it. Sort of like the Muscle Hamster.

  220. Blake_bucsfan Says:

My obvious bias? You’re ridiculous. The guy is 3-16 in his last 2 seasons. And looked like pure garbage doing it. The guy lost his job to blain gabbert.

Also the last time i checked. Ryan fitzpatrick led the jets to a playoff bert in 2015 ya dingus.

If anyone is biased here, its you @David.

You sound dumber than Steven A. After lovie was fired.

  221. Bird Says:

Elliott is hurt. Really ? Didn’t see

I remember people talking yesterday that 3rd outside db is not important and do not need quality

Have you watched Ryan smith tonight. I mean he is hot garbage. And he is 3rd outside

  222. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I think it is far too early to judge these rookies harshly. They are playing in their first NFL game. Lots of butterflies.

I’m more concerned with Barber not finding light when it is right next to him.

  223. MadMax Says:

    Nice grab Martino! +15 too

  224. unbelievable Says:

    Smith def not looking good.

We’ll see if he can get better by preseason game #3

  225. unbelievable Says:

@Bonzai agreed on the rookie, plus

There is no game planning in these games. They’re just running schemes w/ no intention of planning for the opponent.

People have to keep that in mind.

  226. unbelievable Says:

welp, Folk now officially has the leg up lol

  227. MadMax Says:

    And then he misses one…

  228. Ndog Says:

Blake that was not a 71 issue it was a smith issue. He totally lost leverage.

  229. ARGH_M8E Says:

    Ba-Bye-O

  230. MadMax Says:

    Folk is our guy!!!!

    Cut the OHNO!

  231. Johnnie Says:

I a fan of o but it’s time man he isn’t going to be kept so cut him and look at another vet corner

  232. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Put in 87!

  233. Blake_bucsfan Says:

    @Ndog

I was referencing that #71 ran over Ryan Smith like a pancake. Smith is playing like garbage. But we cant have friendly fire like that.

  234. MadMax Says:

Yeah Rod, Bullough should be in there for the 4th qtr.

  235. Rojas Says:

I would still take whoever the Beangles cut lol. Folk misses kick also in practice. Bullock is still only 27.

  236. Rod Munch Says:

Colin is an anti-American anti-cop anti-American piece of trash who got chased out of the fruitiest anti-American city in America. He will not play for anyone in the NFL again since 1) he’s not any good and 2) he’s a locker room cancer and 3) he’s a cancer with the fans. There is literally zero chance he’ll play with the Bucs and the same chance he’ll play again in the NFL.

    Now back to Bucs talk.

  237. Rod Munch Says:

Folk is actually a very good kicker and has been a very good kicker for a long time – he only got cut because the Jets are tanking and don’t want to waste money on a good kicker when they want to lose.

  238. Johnnie Says:

    Smith just flashed

  239. Johnnie Says:

    Bond sorry

  240. Canadabucsfan Says:

Ryan smith was fast on that tackle.

  241. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    @Rod Munch

I think Colin WILL play in the NFL again…but it better not be for us.

  242. Doctor Stroud Says:

    Nice tackle, Smith!

  243. Capt.Tim Says:

I know he had a bad series, but keep you eyes on Caleb Benenoch.
Hes playing Right tackle. He is a physical monster.
I love Demarr, but Caleb is stronger and faster.
I hope he can win the right tackle spot.
That would give us a young, atheletic line for the next ten years

  244. Canadabucsfan Says:

    Wtf coverage was that?

  245. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

You know…some of these bubble guys sure ain’s playing like they want a spot.

  246. MadMax Says:

Our 2nds on D are tired.

  247. Johnnie Says:

    27 flashed

  248. Canadabucsfan Says:

Feel like I’m watching our defense against Falcons in the blowout. Turn this around D or for god sakes get another turnover

  249. Canadabucsfan Says:

Our run defense tonight has been rough all game.

  250. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    @Capt.Tim

I believe Caleb Benenoch is new to the position of tackle, so I hope fans have patience with him. Even if he doesn’t start this year…if he improves he could take over next year.

  251. unbelievable Says:

Gaping holes in the middle of these 2nd and 3rd string defenders….

  252. Blake_bucsfan Says:

2nd string D showing zero pride, zero physicality, zero want-to. I’m disapointed.

  253. Rod Munch Says:

Ugh, bad drive on defense. Ryan Smith actually made a great tackle early on then later I saw at least one play where he missed a tackle on the sideline. Ryan Smith does not look good at all – but he does have burst, he’s certainly a practice squad guy I’d guess. Based on this game I don’t think there is any risk of losing him to another team.

  254. ARGH_M8E Says:

    Good thing this is preseason

  255. Rod Munch Says:

Also on that drive Bond looked like he was pulling up early on every play, not sure if there is something wrong or what.

  256. Doctor Stroud Says:

Will the Bucs go to the waiver wire later in training camp for some CB depth?

  257. Rod Munch Says:

Hum, well maybe what I saw with Bond was something…

  258. ARGH_M8E Says:

    Goddddddddwin

  259. Nathan Ellerbee Says:

Our d is hot garbage right now.

  260. ARGH_M8E Says:

    Nice touch by Grif

  261. Dewey Selmon Says:

4th quarter should be the Godwin/OJ show

  262. lurker Says:

nice to see the fascists like rod munch here

  263. Defense Rules Says:

Run defense has looked really poor all night on runs between the tackles. Interior DLine is getting blocked out pretty good & MLBs aren’t doing their jobs.

  264. Rod Munch Says:

Well Doc according to Joe, corner is the deepest position on the team, so I think we’re all set.

Or more likely Joe’s been hitting the bottle during work hours.

I like Joe generally, I like they have an opinion on stuff, but on this they’re wrong. Past Grimes and VH3 the Bucs have zero depth at corner so they had better be looking everywhere for talent.

  265. Canadabucsfan Says:

    Revis ? Haha jk

  266. Rod Munch Says:

Defense – agree with the the d-line not doing much so far. It’s game one of the preseason so regardless of how they looked I wouldn’t read much into it – but with the way the d-line sounds like they’ve been blowing up the Bucs o-line I was expecting a lot.

  267. Rod Munch Says:

Canadabucsfan – Why wouldn’t we sign Revis if he still wants to play? I’d sign him in a minute if he’s healthy.

  268. Mike Evans GOAT Says:

Lol, it preseason guys don’t have a cow. This all vanilla stuff, don’t put too much stock into it.

  269. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    review

  270. MadMax Says:

    Great catch Reedy!

  271. MadMax Says:

    good run Mcweapon!

  272. Canadabucsfan Says:

That was great eyes by mcnichols

  273. LocalJoker Says:

Seen enough! I want Gruden back. He said he was right down the road! Lol .

  274. Rod Munch Says:

There isn’t anything wrong with Giffin – put panties on these women if you’re going to stop the game after every hit.

  275. ARGH_M8E Says:

    Another drop for Martino:(

  276. DBS Says:

Vanilla or not. If you want to be Playoff Team… You get to the 2 yard line you better be able to get 7 total not 3!!!

  277. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Martino blowing his shot.

  278. Canadabucsfan Says:

Do you think he would be good for the slot? Rod

  279. Redhotcheeto Says:

My dood Martino might be done here datum!

  280. Destinjohnny Says:

We put the cart before the horse with our drafts.
Our o lines and d lines are average

  281. Buc15 Says:

    bye Martino

  282. BurgDweller Says:

Too many drops for the lounge lizard Freddie Martino.

  283. unbelievable Says:

Alright guys I’m out, but before I go:

It’s preseason game 1… there is ZERO game planning. Chill the f out.

Griffin leaving the field might make the QB decision for us… hopefully not though.

    Go Bucs!

  284. ARGH_M8E Says:

    Anger!!!!!!!!!!!! $$$$$$$$$$$

  285. Jack Burton Mercer Says:

Griffin is the worst backup QB in the league. Cut him to save his life.

  286. Doctor Stroud Says:

Not a good night for Bucs players with last names ending in -o.

  287. Rod Munch Says:

We really do have a great punting game, Anger is no Tom Tupa, that’s for sure.

  288. I'm tired and 87 is right Says:

That has got to be the longest fireworks display I have ever seen. Lmao

  289. Ed Kerber Says:

Aguayo is gonna be the new bouncer at the Velvet lined lounge in Vero beach.

  290. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    DBS Says
“Vanilla or not. If you want to be Playoff Team… You get to the 2 yard line you better be able to get 7 total not 3!!!”

    Oh, give me a break.

    3 new WRs.

Two spots on oline are playing for the first time at their position. Another was a backup starting for a starter.

And contrary to what you think…teams do get stopped short of a TD. Even great teams.

  291. Jack Burton Mercer Says:

Is Driskel the Bengals second or third? He looked strong.

  292. Bird Says:

I could catch more balls than Freddie martino and with both hands tied behind my back.

I wouldn’t let him on the plane. Maybe pay for his bus ride back to Tampa? There has got to be 50 guys out there better than him

  293. Canadabucsfan Says:

Jack he’s their third behind McCarron

  294. ARGH_M8E Says:

    The bulllllll

  295. Rod Munch Says:

Canadabucsfan – For Revis I’d play him where he wanted to play, there is no way he wouldn’t instantly be the 3rd best corner on the team, and it’s Revis, if he’s healthy he could be even better than that. Also you could use him as a corner/safety hybrid like we did Ronde his last year here. I doubt the Bucs would do it, but I will in Madden.

  296. ARGH_M8E Says:

Yessssss!!!!! Was pulling for this guy preHBO

  297. MadMax Says:

Bullough 49….first play and he’s rushing in for a tackle for loss..i like it.

  298. Dewey Selmon Says:

Griffin knew his day were numbered, tryin to get a injury settlement.

  299. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Bird Says
“I could catch more balls than Freddie martino and with both hands tied behind my back.”

    Mouth doesn’t count…and TMI.

    (sorry, couldn’t resist)

  300. ARGH_M8E Says:

He’s talking smack already too!!! He’s awesome

  301. Canadabucsfan Says:

Shoulda got that for 6… lol

  302. lurker Says:

    this is a playoff team?

  303. MadMax Says:

Bullough is bullying his way on this O!

  304. ARGH_M8E Says:

    Let’s get some Mcweapon goin

  305. Jack Burton Mercer Says:

    I’m liking 49.

  306. Bird Says:

    Reedy just bounced martino

  307. Rod Munch Says:

I’d want Reedy over Huff all day long.

  308. Canadabucsfan Says:

Nice wheels there . Who was that? On the return.

  309. ARGH_M8E Says:

“The Bully” I like that ^

  310. ARGH_M8E Says:

    Reedy

  311. ARGH_M8E Says:

    @Bird, yup

  312. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    87 is in 🙂

  313. DBS Says:

Bonzai, as dumb as you are you would think that way. And that is exactly what would lose you games. It was their Usual last year. Winston was under no pressure to rush those passes and they were to EVENS. Also as usual it was1 run 2 passes. They came out doing what they do!

  314. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    We need a better backup.

I say keep Griffen. Bad or not, at least he will learn and MAYBE get better.

  315. Dicko14 Says:

Anyone else feel that Griffin has played better than Fitz today?

  316. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

And then he throws a pick.

    PLEASE do not keep Fitz.

  317. Rod Munch Says:

Fitz playing with the 3rd and 4th teamers, you can’t really take much from this.

  318. Capt.Tim Says:

    Rielly!!
Ryan Smith has made a few great plays, and a few terrible plays
    Like a rookie
    Which is what he is
    Still no DE. None.
    Other than McCoy, Dline sucks.
And CB is not a deep posistion

Wr, Lb, Rb, And safety looking good

  319. Canadabucsfan Says:

Well. Thank god we have Winston. Unreal… waste of three hours of my time.

  320. WeAreLost Says:

I know it’s preseason, but it still hurts.

  321. Capt.Tim Says:

    Agreed Bonzi.
Griffin looking better than Fitz, by a large margin

  322. Rod Munch Says:

Preseason is always a waste of time – but it’s football, so it’s a great way to waste time.

  323. Capt.Tim Says:

Rielly in the Backfield! Tripping up the RB

  324. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    @DBS

That’s giving me a break? lol

I typed a pretty blazing retort…but then I realized that would be sinking to your level.

So I’ll say this…when you make enough to retire at 45 like I did, then you can tell me how to succeed.

  325. Rod Munch Says:

Come on Joe Dirt, everyone is pulling for you, you gotta make that sack if you get pressure like that!

  326. Rod Munch Says:

Chris Meyers is a moron. You really can’t say that too often.

  327. Capt.Tim Says:

    Reedy!! Bad bad play

  328. ARGH_M8E Says:

Preseason game 1… Feels eerily familiar tho, I think I’ll be speaking a lil softer from now on

  329. Rod Munch Says:

Why was that a bad play by Reedy? You’re always told let the ball go inside the 10 yard line – he did what you’re supposed to do.

  330. DBS Says:

I’m already retired and still make money in Real Estate Investing fool!

  331. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    @Capt.Tim

CB is a scary position. Outside of the top two, we have no quality depth. Hope they get better from game to game.

  332. Rod Munch Says:

Could we start a kickerstarter campaign to pay Ronde’s legal bills for throwing Meyers out of the broadcasting booth window?

  333. DBS Says:

And Couldn’t care any less about your bragging about what you do or your books.

  334. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    @DBS

At what age did you retire?

And if money is the measurement, well, I’m doing quite fine.

  335. Rod Munch Says:

I’m not a huge Fitz fan and I don’t really care if him or Griffin wins the job – but you can’t judge Fitz at all here, the WRs are guys I’ve never heard of and he’s getting no time at all to throw the ball.

  336. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    DBS Says
“And Couldn’t care any less about your bragging about what you do or your books.”

Well, to be honest, I didn’t think you would. Not many schools for backwoods hillbillies. I just sort of assumed you use some sort of text to speech program to read these posts.

  337. NewTampaChris Says:

Man, these guys all suck. Game film will be like watching The Three Stooges.

  338. DBS Says:

50 and I am do quite fine. So I will end it there.

  339. mark2001 Says:

Not exactly what I’d hoped for tonight.

  340. Rod Munch Says:

Why is it not what you hoped for? The first team offense moved the ball with ease and the defense forced a red zone turnover. I’m not sure you really get what preseason is for.

  341. Rod Munch Says:

Sefo Liufau looks absolutely horrible on college tape, he’s a good runner but has no arm, I have no idea what the Bucs scouts see in him as an NFL passer.

  342. mark2001 Says:

Moved the ball but couldn’t punch it in. Gave up a ton of yardage on the ground, when that was a problem last year. Their backups certainly outplayed ours. Not what I’d hoped for.

  343. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Dang…Sefo Liufau has some nice passes. I want to see him play second string next week.

2 passes and he has half the yards that either Fitz or Griffin had.

  344. Rod Munch Says:

McNichols didn’t play much tonight, he looked good when he did, but he barely played. I wonder if they already know he’s a practice squad guy and don’t want him playing too much because they worry they’ll lose him.

  345. MadMax Says:

Joebucsfan shout out by Myers…well, that was cool.

  346. lurker Says:

ryan griffin with injured shoulder. fitz it is.

  347. WeAreLost Says:

    joebucsfan shout out, cool.

  348. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Interesting. Sefo Liufau is aware of the clock. He’s completed all his passes. And he scrambles.

I’m not ready to say make him the backup…but I sure want to see more.

  349. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Crap…they’re kicking it.

  350. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Missed, lol.

I’m not feeling good about our kickers…either one of them.

  351. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Sad thing is, Sefo Liufau went 4 for 4 and was looking like he might get it down to field.

    Not really fair to him.

  352. MadMax Says:

    Bye Aguay, bye bye

    NO MO OHNO!!!!

  353. Rod Munch Says:

Welp that makes the kicking situation very clear – Roberto will make it until the first main cut. Man that stinks, I still think he plays a long long time in this league, but he’s just not going to do it here. I was pulling for you kid, but you have to do you part. I guess that Hard Knocks kicker drama isn’t going to be very dramatic.

  354. Rod Munch Says:

Bonzai – You’re down by 2 scores, in that situation with a min to go you get it into FG range then kick the FG, the idea being that with some TO’s you can try the onside kick, if you don’t get it you use your TO’s and you might get the ball back with a few seconds to go, then you can just throw a hail mary.

It’s a low percentage deal, but a higher percentage deal than scoring a TD and solely depending on the onside kick. It’s actually the correct thing to do there, statistically it gives you the highest percentage chance to win. Also it’s a good test of a real pressure kick.

  355. JabooBuc Says:

well, you can’t say they didn’t give Roberto a chance. Too bad really… Wasted draft pick and the kid certainly had promise in college. Kicking ain’t easy and obviously something got in his head.

Also, I don’t blame Licht for the pick. It is an extremely important position and the kid was one of the best ever in college. If you hit on him, you have position of need set for the next 15 years possibly.

  356. Rod Munch Says:

JabooBuc – Agreed, and that 2nd round pick was a very late 2nd round pick and the extra piece thrown in there was from the 1st round trade down, so in terms of cost to the Bucs going into the draft he was a 3rd round pick. Had he been drafted like 5 picks later no one would have made a huge deal about the pick since kickers often go in the 3rd round.

No idea what happened there – and as I said before he’ll find a place to kick and play for a very long time. I don’t get it with kickers, some just flake out – and the kid has a lot of confidence which is generally the issue with these guys.

But Folk is about as good of a pickup as you could ask for, he’s been very good for a long time and he is the type of kicker that could play for another decade, a lot like Matt Bryant.

  357. chris Says:

No, he won’t play for a long time. He is terrible and the entire league knows it. There’s always Arena or Canada

  358. BucNTennesse Says:

They have wider goal posts in Canada? If so he just might have a future after all. Worst draft pick outside of Bo Jackson imo, given what we traded for him and the on field results. Time to move on, cut his ass bring in a young leg to finish competing with Folk, or just give Folk the job and go get another defensive player, cause our depth on defense is trash, especially on the DL.

  359. Rod Munch Says:

chris – All former Bucs kickers go somewhere else and play. Koi Forbath, Pat Murray, Connor Barth, Matt Bryant, Mike Nugget – heck Steve Christie, John Carney, the list goes on and on.

  360. chris Says:

Difference is Rod, most of those guys were good while here. Aguayo has proven nothing while here. I know, all you Nole guys can’t except that this guy sucks really, really bad. He will never get another realistic shot to kick again

  361. Rod Munch Says:

BucNTennesse – LOL! Worst pick? Really? You might want to check that history of first rounders we have. Drafting a guy 5 picks from the 3rd round and using a pick you got earlier in the draft on a trade down to do it (to get the same guy you were going to get anyways) isn’t even remotely close to the worst pick ever. The kid won the only games last year he could win and didn’t lose any. If he played another position that wasn’t kicker he’d be kept round. I get he’ll be cut and that’s what has to happen – but saying worst pick every is way way beyond hyperbole and is the talk of someone who knows zero history of the team. Heck earlier in this thread I compared Ryan Smith to Rod “The Toast” Jones, who was a first rounder, he was a bigger bust. Gaines Adams was a bigger bust. Keith McCants was a much much bigger bust. Gary Anderson, who we traded a 2nd round pick for, is a much much bigger bust since that pick of Anderson meant we passed on taking Emmitt Smith who everyone had has taken until that trade.

Calm down with the worst pick ever nonsense kiddo, this team has had a ton of worst picks.

Well, I prefer to agree with Rod on this and hope he has a long career in this league. I believe a change of scenery will do him well and i am quite certain he will get another chance.

Bigger story to me is that i was really unimpressed with the defense, specifically the D Line. On at least two plays i saw Chris Baker was easily moved out of place and more concerning is that he appeared not to give a damn. I know it’s only preseason game 1 so trying not to get too concerned but hoped for better.

You mean the Gary Anderson that was in the USFL, picked by San Diego, was a pro bowl rb and had been in both leagues about 5 years before the Bucs signed him? Jesus, get your facts straight before you spout off. Google is your friend.

#49 first play of the game he’s in the backfield for a tackle for loss had for solid plays where he was in the backfield involved or creating the tackle for a loss or to stop a run this guy needs more playing time in the preseason for real good look he was a beast in college
