Sweezy Fever

July 29th, 2017

“Hey Jason, Mr. Glazer, just wait til I’m unleashed on Monday.”

Dammit, Joe is trying to hard to not get overly pumped up about 6-5, 300-pound freight train right guard J.R. Sweezy.

Sweezy is making that very difficult.

Look, Joe’s rooting for the guy. Big time. But still, Joe can’t find a guard in NFL history who, like Sweezy, missed an entire season because of back surgery, including practice, and then returned for a successful and healthy season.

So in many ways the Bucs are seeking for a miracle bounce back from Sweezy, and they’re paying him handsomely to pull it off.

OK. So Joe has been paying attention to Sweezy during two days of underwear (no-pads) football training camp, when the offensive line has been much more visible than they were during spring practices. And Sweezy looks menacing at times.

Again, Joe knows there are know pads. But Joe is starting fear the results for Bucs defensive linemen when Sweezy does put on pads.

He is clearly a big strong man who can move, and Joe is confident Sweezy will be out for blood when he’s finally unleashed for the first time since the end of the 2015 season.

Here’s a Twitter video sample below of big Sweezy using that athleticism on Friday and introducing himself to Lavonte David. Just imagine if the Bucs were allowed to hit.

Fun stuff. And yes, Joe is putting Sweezy fever on ice for now, but it might not be easy.

    Don’t drink the Kool Aid
    Don’t drink the Kool Aid
    Don’t drink the Kool Aid
    Don’t drink the Kool Aid
    Don’t drink the Kool Aid

Its getting damn hard not to chug it down.

I want to see how he looks once the hitting starts and PreSeason beings. But I will go thru the season always wondering if he will stay healthy. If he does and preforms as expected, it will be another feather in Jason Licht’s cap.

See you guys next week – Stick Carrier Day ! Gonna chug that Kool Aid down. Will be opening my heart to hopes and dreams of a playoff berth. I hope they dont let me down.

  7. BucTrooper Says:

I don’t trust this guy. He was too secretive and quiet about his injury.

  8. Stanglassman Says:

How do you know it was his choice to keep his injury info under wraps?

  9. Rich Says:

I specifically watched him yesterday and came away very impressed. I know the pads aren’t on yet and there’s no real contact but I need to say this…Sweezy is the most agile, flexible big man I’ve seen in a long time! I urge fellow stick carriers to watch him closely, particularly durin g warm up stretching exercises….he has amazing flexibility and control…almost gymnast like…very rare for such a big man. If tells me he has been working hard during his rehab because a back injury doesn’t allow this type of movement….very impressive

  10. MarineBucsFan Says:

Don’t forget Ali Marpet is a big man that moves well too!! This OLine will move the defense.

  11. BucEmUo Says:

I’m not too worried about the online with all the new weapons. I worry about dline….next draft is a must for some pass rush

  12. BucTrooper Says:

Because in 37 years of watching football I’ve never seen a guy go so far out of his way to conceal what was wrong with him. Even AFTER a The injury was over. He’s purposely being coy about it because if he says the wrong thing he will get sued for deceptively concealing an injury in the wake of a new contract. Jerome Bettis did it. He needed knee surgery for something showed up for training camp and on the first play he fell and grabbed his knee, blaming it on football activity and bad luck. (He wrote about it)

  13. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

Trooper I’ve always been of the mindset the injury was a farce. Sweez about to maul people. Some way he did out west for the hawks.

  14. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

And Rich thanks for that insight bro. Says alot about the newest Fameis bodyguard that will be lining up on Sunday’s. I wanna see donald get get extra nasty wit my QB now.

  15. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

Sweezy isn’t the typical O linemen. Sweez intimidates grown men.

  16. Easy Denman Says:

I’ve been holding out thinking he needed the year off to heal his back and he would be good to go and it looks like that’s the case. Stay healthy and stay Sweezy!!

  17. Bucfan4life Says:

I couldn’t even pay attention to what the article was about with Joe keep referring to himself in 3rd person every other sentence.

  18. stpetebucsfan Says:

Opening day I hope Ali stands up Suh and Sweezy wipes him out. He lives by the sword dies by the sword and I think Suh might be in for a surprise. I don’t think this OL will let him get away with stomping a guy when he’s down.

  19. Joe Says:

Gonna be in a world of hurt then. Been doing it for 10 years and no plans on stopping

  20. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

Rich Bill Parcels said in an interview once he could basically tell which players would most likely make his team. He pointed out flexibility in warm ups. He said the flexible one’s last longer in the NFL. That brady kid attributes a lot of his longevity to flexibility. You seeing that from BIG Sweezy is great sign in my book.

  21. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

And Pete Sweez don’t play. If suh get out of line opening day this guy is going to check him. Sweezy maniacal man, people don’t usually wanna test that.

  22. Mike Johnson Says:

Easy Money Sweezy has maybe..a half of season in him before he goes back into rehab again.

  23. BucTrooper Says:

When Joe goes 3rd person, i always think about Jimmy from SEINFELD 👍🏼😎

  24. tmaxcon Says:

I envision Joe’s 3rd person to be somewhere between Peter and Brian Griffin with homer simpson’s body.

So, everybody is supposed to act in the same way to a specific set of circumstances? Otherwise, they creep you out? This is the same kind of explanation we get from the conspiracy theory nuts who go on about Sandy Hook – “Those parents aren’t crying and bashing their head against the floor, so there’s no way their little kid was shot!”

You can read your own agenda into whatever somebody does or says –
That guy is too forthcoming about everything. Why? Who does that?
That guy doesn’t talk about things, he must have something to hide.

If you’ve never met the man, never spent time with him, then why would you be so suspicious, unless you have some ‘need’ to see him as suspicious? So now, anything he does will raise your suspicions. Catch-22. You’re putting him in a loop inside your brain!

  26. Joe Says:

So, everybody is supposed to act in the same way to a specific set of circumstances? Otherwise, they creep you out?

It is odd that this issue is so cloak-and-dagger. If there’s nothing to hide, why hide it?

  27. stanglassman Says:

You never know he could be being advised by the Bucs, attorney or Doctors that he shouldn’t speak in detail about it.

  28. Bucfan4life Says:

Joe- Not sure how I’m in a world of hurt. I’ve never heard of you before and I’m sure I will never give you another thought after this message. Ill just go back to reading articles from journalist who aren’t D.B’s. 🙂
