Dirk Koetter, 22nd Best Head Coach?

June 21st, 2017

No respect

Joe’s seen enough nonsense for one day (and Joe’s not talking about the daily flow of filtered comments on JoeBucsFan.com).

Joe just read the last straw and is now off to Abe’s Place for the coldest beer in town.

NFL Network personality and NFL.com analyst Elliott Harrison has posted a detailed ranking of the 32 best head coaches in the league.

Winning Bucs coach Dirk Koetter checks in at No. 22. That’s right, math majors. Koetter has a home in the bottom third of the league.

Team Glazer should vote to defund NFL.com immediately and send a crew of cheerleaders to slap around Harrison. If you must, Harrison’s drivel is detailed here.

Where does Joe start?

First, Harrison has Sean Payton ranked No. 9 overall. C’mon, in 10 seasons coaching the Saints with a slam dunk Hall of Fame quarterback in his prime, has made the playoffs just five times. And he’s had three losing seasons in a row and got busted for running an organized crime operation on his own team.

At No.  10 is Mike Zimmer. Nice coach, but he has one winning season in three and zero playoff wins. If Dirk Koetter does that, then he’ll get run out of Tampa and Joe offer to pay the taxi fare.

Marvin Lewis, Koetter’s good friend, checked in at No. 17 overall. Sorry, but Lewis losing all seven of his tries in the playoffs is not a coincidence. Joe would not trade Koetter for Lewis, and Joe doesn’t know anyone who would.

Man, Joe is pissed at this lack of respect for the godfather of the Stick Carriers, Dirk Koetter.

1 year in was the reason given. Some validity to that.
    Some.

  2. chester potlash Says:

C’mon, Joes, there are far more dipstickian inputs from talking heads than this one, although it is silly to put Koetter behind many of those walking corpses. You were just looking for an “official” reason to start drinking beer early!

  3. JOEinPHX Says:

Dirk wouldn’t give a crap. Neither should we.

  4. Tampa Tony Says:

20 of the 21 coaches ahead of Koetter have made the playoffs with their current team.

Dudes been a head coach for 1 year if he’s a winner and a good coach like we all think he will be consistent

Zimmer, who smart fans wished the Bucs hired instead of Loser Lovie has had 1 losing season and kept his team competitive after losing their starting qb and RB. I like Koetter but I’m not sure if he pulls off 8-8 without his qb

  5. DB55 Says:

NFL dot com has the Bucs O ranked 22nd and the D 22nd or 24th so Dirk ranked 22 makes sense.

On a side note: Ron Rivera could not possibly be ranked 8 cuz Lord C said so yesterday …. yea LC I have no idea what I’m talking about bruh.

  6. MattSpy05 Says:

Sounds about right, only coached one year, hasn’t made the playoffs…heif he Bucs have another good year his rating will go up.

  7. Mike Johnson Says:

Dirk has been a head coach for HOW Many Years now? one or 2 seasons a great coach does not make peoples! The guy is not great yet. Please!..Lets see what his resume looks like in 10 yrs or so. But Great? Nope..not even close. Now if only Joe would give me the name is his dealer. He’s smokin some good kush!

  8. Brett Says:

If Lovie was in the league, he would probably be ranked about 10 spots higher. Read into it what you want.

  9. webster Says:

Come on joe….koetter has only coached one year and his team was 9-7 with no playoff appearance. Respect is earned, not giving. As for Lewis, he has had unfortunate luck in the playoffs with injuries. He has been without his starting qb at least three times and aj green has missed a couple games. Carson palmer got hurt on the very 1st drive against pittsburgh when cincy won the division in 2006. I dont know about you, but i do not like the bucs chances without Evans. We already know we are doomed without jameis in the playoffs.

I’m actually fine with him being ranked 22nd. After all, he only got us one game past .500 last year. While that may be the best Bucs record since 2010, it actually isn’t a great record. If Dirk Koetter wants to be ranked higher, then he should do a better job this year. It’s that simple.

Don’t get me wrong, I DO think he will do better…but the ranking is pretty accurate going into the new season if you ask me. At least HIS ranking. I don’t really care about the other coaches.

  11. D-Rome Says:

Where would you rank him, Joseph? You can’t put him in the top 12. You can’t put him ahead of coaches who have coached their teams into a playoff spot in the past.

I would have put him at 20. It’s only been a year. You can’t slot him ahead of guys that have won a playoff game or have won a Super Bowl. Being ranked #22 is fitting considering it was number 22’s poor performance all year that cost the Bucs a playoff spot.

  12. biff barker Says:

    I blame those damn Russians….

  13. 813bucboi Says:

seems about right IMO….he’s only been a HC for 1 year….hasn’t been to the playoffs yet….hasn’t been to a superbowl…..he’s only won 9games…he still needs to work on his play calling…hopefully with the new weapons we have, that issue will improve….good coach and im happy he’s a buc but he’s still pretty green….GO BUCS!!!

  14. Kalind Says:

If dirk was in NYC or LA he’d be in the top 5.

NFL co. Is just a shill for NYC and LA. That’s why they think OBJ is better than Evans.

  15. shouldhavedraftedeifert Says:

He’s deserves 22nd after the last few 4th qtr drives in Dallas. Letting Irving go HAM on Cherlius like that without help was criminal.

  16. BucEmUp Says:

Good, underestimated. It will change by next season!

  17. Jim Says:

Speak softly and carry a big……

  18. BigMacAttack Says:

Who cares. This ranking is meaningless. Koetter’s arrow is pointing up while I’m sure a number of the coaches ahead of him is pointing down.

  19. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Really weird to rank coaches……I can guarantee that Koetter doesn’t care….that should move him up a few notches right there. There are many above him that I and many JBFs wouldn’t want here.
The important thing is to leave him in place for a while….hopefully a very long time

  20. unbelievable Says:

Not sure a crew of cheerleaders really seems like a punishment?

Anyhow, I suspect Coach K doesn’t give 2 s(p)its about this list. And as others have mentioned, this really only backs the stick carrier mantra…

  21. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

Chuck Pagano rated as high as he is is a joke.
With all due respect, WTF has he won, except his battle with Cancer ?

  22. R.O. Says:

    Another stupid list… who cares.

  23. Joebucsfan.com Says:

22nd is about right. Not bad for a 2nD year head coach. At least he is not 32nd

  24. Ed Says:

I think he is ranked to high, he has proven nothing.

  25. Buddy Says:

He hasn’t even had a 10 win season yet. Raheem had that. Calm down Joe.

  26. tmaxcon Says:

rankings don’t matter that pathetic clown dungy is in the laughable hall of fame with a career losing playoff records. rankings mean nothing. wins and superbowls are all that matter.

  27. NFLNut Says:

There’s Bellichick … then a massive drop to Pete Carrol … and then a huge drop to every other coach be it Tomlin or Koetter or anyone else …

  28. RayJameisStadium Says:

Some of you might remember our Philly game before the Super Bowl. When Barber said, “Pro Bowl my a$$!!! I’m going to the Super Bowl!!!”

In February the Godfather will say, “22 My a$$!!!! I just won the Super Bowl!!!”

Koetter will hold the Lombardi next to the Glazers at the Super Bowl!!!

    Go Bucs!!!

  29. Phil Says:

It’s still better than Lovie who would be #32.

  30. LakeLandBuc Says:

We have the 4th best Head Coach in the NFC South, the 4th best QB in the NFC South. And we are the 4th best team in the NFC South.

  31. bucs_365 Says:

Who bothers to get upset at this kinda sh!t? Morons, that’s who. After one season as a head coach in the league, he’s at #22. That seems fair. A strong winning season and a playoff appearance could put him in the top half. Gotta prove it. I think he will.

  32. GhostofSchiano Says:

(and Joe’s not talking about the daily flow of filtered comments on JoeBucsFan.com

    HEY JOE

Just once JOE could have a thread that let’s us cut loose and tell it in no PC terms??????

    Could be fun

  33. Trubucfan22 Says:

Lovie would be 60th or worse. Assistant head coaches would be in front of Lovie on this list.
