Riley Cooper Lands In Bucs Rookie/Tryout Camp

May 5th, 2017

The Bucs are taking a deep sniff of foul-mouthed receiver Riley Cooper today.

The pride of Clearwater turned embarrassment of Clearwater is a former Eagles fifth-round pick who will be 30 in September.

Cooper will run around One Buc Palace this afternoon with other tryout players, drafted rookies and undrafted free agents. It’s the start of the Bucs’ rookie minicamp.

Nnown throwing around the “N” word on video, Cooper starred with the Florida Gators, and spent six seasons with the Eagles. Cooper has 169 catches and 18 touchdowns in his NFL career. Those are Louis Murphy numbers.

Cooper was out of football last year after the Eagles cut him before the season.

Joe wrote yesterday about how the Bucs’ No. 5 receiver job is wide open and the cast of characters is unimpressive.

But Cooper? Joe’s not expecting much.

  1. AJ Del Says:

It seems a loser did apply. Hopefully he’s just camp meat.

  2. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Hope they don’t sign him.

  3. Brandon Says:

He’s better than the bottom of the roster…. but the first, second, third, and fourth spots are taken… the #5 spot is open… but do we want to use it on a nondevelopmental player? Does/did Cooper excel on special teams? It’s a must for the 5th WR.

  4. PhillyBucsFan Says:

I’d rather have old man Jackson

  5. SOEbuc Says:

Can’t be asking for much. Not likely #5 but if he looks at all worthy to get back in the game, bring on the depth.

  6. Knucknbuc Says:

Puke. Screw this guy. He can get a tryout but kaep cant? Gtfoh

  7. Buccfan37 Says:

Naw, this guy has a snowballs chance in hell to make the Bucs roster.

  8. USFBUC Says:

Strong pass on this one, I wouldn’t have even brought him into camp. Not impressive numbers, and a blemish on his pro-career.

  9. JonBuc Says:

    No thanks…

  10. Buc50 Says:

    Hell no!!!

  11. DevilDogBuc Says:

He needs to go to new england they’ll take him he’ll fit right in

  12. bucs_365 Says:

Derel Walker is a strong 5th WR candidate with his CFL experience. Also, Sperbeck from Boise State, looks good on video. I think he could be your 6th receiver is they carry that many.

  13. OneBucPerson Says:

My sister and brother-in-law went to CCC with Riley, they both said he was a bit of an asshole.

  14. Mike Evans GOAT Says:

Yeah, don’t need the racism in the locker room

  15. Maxdrumsalot Says:

No racists on the team please! There’s enough in the senate and house as is

  16. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

He is 100x better than any WR we have after hump, if they give him a fair shake he will make the team and do well if given a chance

  17. REGINALD GRAY Says:

I’m just sitting back and waiting for the ignorant comments to pass my time.

  18. Eric Denman Says:

    I like it.

  19. SB Says:

Riley Cooper and Louis Murphy both played with Tim Tebow

  20. JabooBuc Says:

I smell another Hard Knocks story line.

  21. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

he was also a teammate of desean jackson, so I am guessing desean looked around and told licht to give his buddy a call because he is wayyy better than these slugs

  22. Mike Johson Says:

    Even Losers..Have dreams!

  23. The Buc Realist Says:

Can’t hurt to give the guy a tryout!!!!!

    Go Bucs!!!!!!

  24. John Says:

Clearwater Central Catholic High School right here! Representing

  25. Teflon Don Says:

Nope pass on the racist bum

  26. shouldhavedraftedefiert Says:

    Hard Knocks fodder.

  27. Yeah I Said It Says:

So, ALL damn off season I had to hear/read, bucs fans dieing for Joe Mixon. Same guy who broke a white woman’s FACE! Bucs fans excuse was he was young and made a mistake. Riley Cooper calls a black person the “N” word and he’s not welcome by the fan base…” There is no excuse for that? He’s a racist! ” All I’m asking is why is, black on white acceptable and white on black not? And why can’t the same excuse for Mixon be said for Cooper?

  28. Buc_Guwop Says:

I saw the list of our invites and I love Jordan Westerkamp from Nebrask!!! Dude caught everything thrown his way and has unbelievable body control. Only reason he went undrafted is because hegot injured in December.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EIj1jbCUmek

  29. Stpetebucsfan Says:

    Riley who?

  30. Buc_Guwop Says:

Looking at the invite list for rookie/tryout camp… I really love Jordan Westerkamp out of Nebraska… Dude made spectacular catch after spectacular catch, has great body control and is great with the ball in his hands.. Only reason he went undrafted is because he banged up his ACL in December.. I can see him making this team no problem and passing Hump in the process.

  31. Supersam Says:

Love it!! Sign him up. Good depth, and you think Licht didn’t ask Desean Jackson about him first? Of course he did and I bet Jackson gave him good reviews.

  32. Supersam Says:

Btw any one else see Winston good friend and cousin got picked up on rape charges? Not good…. nope.

  33. Vico Says:

DevilDogBuc, spot on comment right there. Lol.

  34. adam from ny Says:

    street meat

  35. Billy Says:

Supersam what does that have to do with anything? It has nothing to do with jameis or the team so why is it even noteworthy?

  36. Maze Says:

    Better than old V Jackson

  37. LifeOfABucFan Says:

Well Lifey knows he’s always been a jerk..but she thinks he’s one hot mother pucker..But VJax is hotter and a better locker room presence..

Not sure how Cooper fits in with our guys though..

  38. The Buc Realist Says:

Did he say the N-word with the “a” or the one with the “er”???? Is he an honorary brotha??? did he have his “honorary brotha card” with him like richie incognito had, because that makes a difference in the story!!!!!!!!!

  39. ARGH_M8E Says:

Pass, no pun intended… can u say HARD KNOCKS?!

  40. Matt407 Says:

    Bring back vjax

  41. JimmyJack Says:

Anybody calling him racist is an idiot. If your gonna call him that then back ot up or stop being an idiot. Though, I’m quite certain your calling him a racist cause of one recording where he said a bad word. Saying one bad word from years ago in a singular evening doesn’t make you racist and if you believe it does your helpless.

The dude has good hands and can get open and plays with passion. If he is still in football shape he’s much better then what we had last year.

  42. Jimbo Says:

He shouldn’t even be invited…total jerk!

  43. Rod Munch Says:

Oh no, what will black people do if they hear a word they say 400 times per minute! People being fake outraged because someone whose skin isn’t dark says a word you hear everywhere spoken by the people who are fake offended by it – its one if the greatest scams of our lifetime.

It’s ok white knights, no need to rush to defend people that hate you, I’m allowed to say this since I have the DNA results that show I’m 2% African.

  44. Dave Says:

He was decent, especially for a 4/5 at WR but id rather develop a youngster who can return kicks
Or… resign VJax if he’s willing to be low on the depth chart. I just like his leadership for all the receivers including DJax

  45. Dave Says:

As for what he said….. who cares. It’s irrelevant. His teammates and friends didn’t care and r erything wascleared up years ago. The end

  46. MadMax Says:

    Nope!

  47. DB55 Says:

You guys really have no clue!

No suspension necessary for Cooper and no punishment from the NFL, despite its new interest in policing our use of the N-word on the field. Riley instead got a few days off from training camp and a nice contract in the offseason, too.

Desean Jackson is reportedly affiliated with alleged Los Angeles gang members. There is no proof that he is in a gang, and has never been arrested for any such activity. Instead, the Eagles pointed to his work ethic as one of the primary motivations for letting him go.

    https://youtu.be/x1Wg51SREFw

  48. DB55 Says:

Plus DJax threw shade at coop as he left Philly saying that Maclin was their only capable receiver.

Not only did coop say it with an “er” his exactly words were I’ll fight any n in here. Which I found funny cuz he was at a country music concert. Didn’t know that a lot of n’s frequent Kenny Chesney but what do I know.

I’d love to hear him say that to Robert Ayers though …. that would be great!

  49. redtop5588 Says:

i really like josh huff not as a returner lol but as a depth reciever he didnt no the off last yr an with last yr and training camp he should come out strong didnt he start for the eagles a one point boy we are going to have real depth at wr this yr evans jackson hump godwin and walker huff maybe cooper and our undrafted free agents battling it out for 1 or 2 spots should be really great to watch HARD KNOCKS!!!!!! also cant wait to see this off go bucs have pretty good depth all around some spots better than others but will be alot better shape this yr if injuries do happen GO BUCS!!!

  50. Trubucfan22 Says:

I bet the bucs are just doing him and his agent a favor. He’s a local guy. I doubt this goes anywhere. I hope he gets cut before the vets show up. We don’t need this crap. My money is on Walker to lock up the 5th spot.

  51. grafikdetail Says:

@DB55 i believe he was referring to the black security guard LOL

  52. DB55 Says:

    Grafik

To make it worse the security wasn’t even black he was Cuban. But hey, they all look alike. Lol. Jk. I just made that up.

  53. 813bucboi Says:

gator fan here…..HELL NO!!!!like someone posted earlier…rather have vjax….GO BUCS!!!!

  54. David Says:

Some of you guys are effin hypocrites! Some of u on here saying hey Colin K. disrespected our flag and country he is a bum…etc etc. are the same ones saying give a racists POS a tryout!!??? Gtfoh. Now I know the makeup of some of u ppl who post on here.

  55. BigHogHaynes Says:

@Rod Munch : about that DNA test ..uuummm that was your IQ-Score 2% JACK/ASS!!

  56. The Buc Realist Says:

    @David

maybe you should look up and see what commie kapernick was fined for in 2015 for $11,000 for what said during the bears game!!!!! And it is the NFL’s right to take a knee on kapernick’s career if they want to!!!!!!

  57. Capt.Tim Says:

I would prefer Vincent Jackson or Derel Walker.
    But Cooper aint bad.
He never broke a womans face.
    He said a naughty word.
    So f***ing what .

If he can help the team. Sign him.
If anybody cant handle a bad wittle word, pass out diapers.

  58. BigHogHaynes Says:

@The Buc Realist: You blank ..blank ..blank “er” blank ..blank ..blank or “a” blank ..blank ..blank ..blank ..blank makes you look like the ..blank ..blank ..blank ..blank that you are …..you are a real piece of ..blank ..blank ..blank but guess you are the realist …that plus a blank..blank ..blank!

  59. The Buc Realist Says:

    @BigHogHaynes

Just a couple of days ago I just posted something nice about you!!!!! To Be fair, I am the “Realist” to everybody!!!!!!!!!!

    The Buc Realist Says:
    May 3rd, 2017 at 1:18 pm
On a side note, I want to congratulate Mr BigHogHaynes!!!!! I have offered to help educate him in football or any other question he has had. And he has worked very hard on his post this off-season, but every post he make a point!!! He thinks the line needs to be address and has clearly made that point in each post!!!!! He is still the most racist guys I know, but he is getting better!!!!! For exampe, Before I left we were eating some ribs together and told a joke, Oh yea, it was this ” why are their no puerto rican’s on Star Trek”, “Cause they are not working in the future either!” Don’t worry I yelled at the guy!!!!! “I told him its not right!!!” But he has come a long ways!!!!!

    Go Bucs!!!!!!!!

  60. Maze Says:

No one will sign Vincent Jackson. His time is the NFL is most likely over. Good run though

  61. The Real Malloy Says:

    Its been a while people…..

As a CCC alum, I love it. So Joe Mixon is fine to draft, but Riley is a bad guy?

    Please….

He’d be an amazing #5 (he’s not breaking the top 4). If you want to win, I’d give the guy a chance. We want competition and this guy is better than the Reedy’s and Huff’s of the world hands down.

  62. BigHogHaynes Says:

@Capt.Tim: that little bad word is properly what got her face broke ….if ya’ll don’t teach your kids a little history …they will learn the hard way!

  63. The Buc Realist Says:

    @BighogHeinous

Sooooo by your logic, someone on the Bears should have broke commie kapernick’s face in 2015!!!!!!!!!

  64. BigHogHaynes Says:

@THE BUC REALIST: I don’t need anything from you….or anyone like you…try to stay up!

  65. Rod Munch Says:

Oh snap Biggie, you got me! Anywho word up brother, I know the struggle! Keep the fight alive against the magic word – I meant you couldn’t watch a single fan produced highlight of a player in the draft without hearing the word 600 times in the 5 min clip you were watching – but keep pretending it’s a hurtful word – that policy is really doing wonder.

  66. Goteem22 Says:

Drunk mans mouth tells the truth. He’s a redneck closet racist.AS A PERSON.. Let’s see how he plays ball. He will never have any respect in any NFL locker room EVER . His face card is tarnished. But Tampa needs a big punching bag receiver to take those routes across the middle lol. gGive him a couple dollars and a Special teams slot. Racist Bum

  67. BigHogHaynes Says:

@ The Real Malloy: as you can see, we didn’t even take a wiff @Brandon THE MITIGATING FACTOR JOE MIXON ….but are going to kick the tires on this used up trash can…that should speak volumes to ya!!

  68. BigHogHaynes Says:

@ The Real Malloy: as you can see, we didn’t even take a wiff @Brandon THE MITIGATING FACTOR JOE MIXON ….but we are going to kick the tires on this used up trash can…that should speak volumes to ya!!

  69. The Buc Realist Says:

The only “volume it speaks” is that they did not want to drop a second round pick on a RB for the 4 vert offense that we are running and implementing more of each year!!!!!

and a “try out” does not cost a thing!!! So might as well as give the man a chance!!!

    @Goteem22
If saying the N-word is what loses respect of the locker room, then maybe that is what happened to commie kaepernick’s career!!! Because he said it on the field and was fined!!!!!!! Or maybe it was that issue he had in Miami, so many things that it could have been!!!!!!

But trash always gets thrown out!!!!!!!

    Go Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!

  70. BigHogHaynes Says:

@Rod Munch: don’t let that five minute clip get your face broke!

  71. BigHogHaynes Says:

@the realist: a strong run game is what will make that 4-Vert offense work best, Jameis is a play/action master so we need a strong run game to open up that 4-vert …Jameis maybe a gunslinger but he ain’t no pin point passer …rookie camp is here … Mini camp up next ..then let the fun begin!!! GO BUCS!!

  72. Buccfan37 Says:

Humor is the best medicine, all that’s missing is the laugh track.

  73. DavidBigBucFan99 Says:

Does the N word offend you boy? All you guys whining about they use it all the time please stop the crying and understand your history of the word which white folks have used for over 200 years to denote they were less than human. That’s what that breaks down to. They now have taken it and now double dog dare you to call them that to their face or even use it around them. That’s what that girl learned from Mixon and plus that spittin in the face

  74. BucsFan90 Says:

Chip Kelly lost the Eagles locker room the day he decided to keep Riley Cooper. You can’t have divisiveness in a locker room. Koetter better clean this mess before it blows up in his face.

  75. Rod Munch Says:

Biggie – Responding to words with threats of violence? Naughty naughty… that’s a very low IQ moment for you. Here’s a little rhyme they used to teach us in kindergarten, it goes like this….

Sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me.

Seriously – in a public school they’d teach you words don’t hurt and if someone calls you something then come-up with something clever to say a retort, don’t resort to violence.

Anywho I agree if people are saying something to start a fight then the intent can be different, but the fact you call this guy a racist when his own teammates said he wasn’t a racist and they didn’t care about what he said – you’re just wanting to be a victim in order to get attention. Me personally I don’t use the word, well not unless I’m singing along with every hip hop or rap song that has come out in the last 20 years, then I do I repeatedly over and over again – because that’s the lyrics. But again it’s OK, my Ancestry DNA test results say I’m 2% African, so I’m allowed to say it.

That’s what that girl learned from Mixon and plus that spittin in his face helped mitigate the 3 piece combo meal to her face. It don’t matter whether its with an n or an a. There’s things in life you can do nothing about and this is one of those things so just stop it.

As with Riley Cooper if he can make the team better and the players put up with him why not? Black folk use the H word and saltine word all the time so give him a chance. I always felt bad for the lone Vietnamese dude Nugyen who used to blay for the Cowboys. I’m sure he heard ch!nk from whites and blacks.

  77. Reza316 Says:

Is this some kind of PR stunt for Hard Knocks? Boast the ratings? This is a horrible idea. The bucs are primed to strike, the last thing they need is a distraction. Cooper isn’t needed.

  78. Cash Says:

Cooper is a racist POS simple and plain and anyone cool with him is cool with racism. There are a lot of you out there, the elction revealed that.

  79. Rod Munch Says:

His teammates forgave him and said it wasn’t an issue and said he wasn’t a racist – but you’re a message board poster so you know the “REAL” truth, and your proof is that a lifelong Democrat got elected president (that would be Trump BTW, the guy on CNN in 2009 defending Obama on Larry King live just about every week). But yeah you got a strong case, the old white man got elected over the old white woman, that’s racist. LOL!

Anywho snowflake here’s some quotes from the time from people that weren’t his team mates, they seem to be a bit more balanced than yourself…

    Brent Grimes, CB, Dolphins
“People make mistakes, and he said what he said. … He made a mistake. It looked like he was kind of drunk or whatever. So he made a mistake. He apologized for it. That’s all you can really ask.”

    Davin Joseph, G, Buccaneers
“I don’t know the time, situation and all that stuff what provoked him to say whatever he said. But everybody makes mistakes. I think sometimes people take things out of context, and think one word can make you a bad person. I believe that he (wouldn’t be) playing in the NFL for so long if he was a bad person. But everybody makes mistakes.”

    Dekoda Watson, LB, Buccaneers
“No comment. No comment at all. He’s still a good kid. I don’t care what anybody says.”

    Nate Burleson, WR, Lions
“I don’t know him personally. I’m a forgiving guy, so if a guy’s sincere in his apology, I’m good with it. I’m pretty sure we have all said things that we would take back if the camera was there. I’m not going to get on my high horse and act like I have a clean mouth. It’s just tough. We’re in a time where you can’t say the wrong thing because there’s always a cell phone around. (Eagles quarterback Michael) Vick said it best. He said, ‘He apologized to the team, and I’m OK with it.’ I’m a good friend of Vick’s, and if Vick’s good with it, I’m good with it.”

  80. BucsFan90 Says:

rod munch, apparently you forgot to quote his actual teammates…

    Michael Vick, QB, Eagles
“I stood in front of the team. I stood in front of the cameras and defused that whole situation. We had guys talking about knocking him out, taking his head off, doing X, Y and Z to him on the field, and none of that happened, out of respect for myself, I think. I took that stand for him, man, and I just hope at the end of the day that he appreciates that. I just hope he’s [appreciative] of my boldness to step out in front of the world and say what I said, and he appreciates what I did and understands the magnitude of it, because nobody else was going to step up and say anything. I could’ve said the same thing that 25 of my teammates were saying, and there was built-up anger. [He] was going to derail our team. Unfortunately, it was going to derail Riley’s career. It would have ended his career. A couple of things transpired since [the incident] that I dislike, and I’ll be honest with you. After he signed his contract, I sent him a text and I never got a text back, and that made me feel a certain type of way.I’d have you on speed dial,” Vick said of how he would treat Cooper had the roles been reversed. “That’s the only reason I say I hope Riley appreciates that. His life is his life and he played good football last year, and he was always like a little brother to me. But money should never change an individual, and I’m not saying it did that to Riley. I handled it so my team could move forward, and I handled it so people could forget about it and not look at Riley a certain kind of way. I changed the whole dynamic of that situation, and that was a proud moment for me. I was able to save a young man’s career, and that young man went on to have the greatest year of his career and get a contract that he probably never imagined he would get.”

  81. Capt.Tim Says:

No worries, big hoggie- Im still beautiful!
Ive worked with just about every nationality on the planet.
And for every nationality- there is an insult.
And Ive heard’em all! And said most of’em
Funny how only a few start crying, over name calling!
I thought only lil children cried of being called names.

joe mixon hit a woman. Hes a coward.
    No more, no less

  82. Capt.Tim Says:

Funny how biggie hoggie is the first to stand up for a coward who hits women,
Yet is also the first to start crying,if someone says a baaaad world!

If you cant handle harsh words without crying, the the real world is gonna be a tough place on such sensitive souls!

  83. Ed Says:

Putting this jerk on the field is a disrespect to every black player on this team.

  84. Warren Sapp Says:

    People change Ed. Move on!!

  85. Capt.Tim Says:

Wa wa! He called me a bad name!!
Im sure the men on our team arent gonna wet themselves over a bad word

  86. Rod Munch Says:

Wow does that convicted dog murderer felon Ron Mexico say “I” a lot. Anywho the moral of the story is he stood up for his guy and everything turned out great. I fail to see how this helps you make your point.
