Jon Beason Talks DJax, Monken

May 25th, 2017

Drama behind the scenes?

Jon Beason smells smoke.

Of course, last week, Bucs offensive coordinator Todd Monken made noise when he shared that he told DeSean Jackson he must earn his fat new contract, in so many words.

Analysts nationwide have run with this. Some say Monken is just spouting off. Others think it was his way to get his name known in NFL circles.

But Beason, the former Stinking Panthers and Giants linebacker now working for CBS Sports, thinks Monken’s words were a “personal attack” on Jackson and there’s something hidden behind the curtain for Monken to have said that.

“Sounds like it is personal,” Beason told Nick Kostos. “I don’t know what [may] be going on with off the field stuff. [Jackson] is supposed to be a big part of this [Bucs] offense.

“It sounds like from [Monken’s] perspective, he is not getting what they thought they were going to get [with Jackson].”

You can view the entire segment below.

It’s not the first time Monken has spoken openly if not critically about a veteran receiver. After Vincent Jackson seemed to sleepwalk through the opening-game win at Atlanta last year, Monken called him out in a press conference days later saying Vincent Jackson needed to play better.

He doesn’t know what he’s talking about. At all.

  2. GhostofSchiano Says:

Did he sat it “Jokingly” or with a grin? Thank God Monkens last name isn’t Trump or this thing would really be put under a microscope.

  3. WhatdaBUCisthis Says:

    Eh… Whatever floats your boat

  4. stu Says:

He is who they thought he was…

  5. Eric Says:

Man I hate to admit it but I think he’s right. There is something bigger than we know. He must have said something to someone that got back to them. Something like “Tampa is a retirement town.” I don’t know.

I still respect the hell out of Monkey for checking his ass though.

  6. Locked In Says:

I really wish these guys would stop talking about this non-issue. Sick of this kind of reporting – and not just in sports!

  7. Destinjohnny Says:

I wouldn’t have said it and I’m old school

  8. ARGH_M8E Says:

LMAO, ARE YOU SH💩TING ME?!?! Pffffffff

  9. Defense Rules Says:

This is about the 100th interpretation of what Monken said, and they’re all getting a bit tiresome. I prefer DJax’s response that he gave yesterday at his press conference: “One thing about myself is I’m a professional, I go out there and the results show for themselves. However someone feels, that’s how they feel. I know when it comes time to play games and I’m out there on the field, I’m going to give it all I’ve got to help my team win games.”

I think its horse manure. Locked I love it,it tells me we are on people’s minds and that it is becoming increasingly more difficult to poke holes in this team. The league is on notice.

  11. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

Four or five years ago this might’ve been an issue but at this stage Jackpot realizes his position coach is just keeping it “100”. Players respect that,Monken is quickly becoming my favorite coach on this staff. I love str8 shooters.

  12. Bucsfanman Says:

    “It’s not ‘show-friends’ it’s ‘show business!”
“Didn’t we arrive in a limo?”

  13. StPeteBucsfan Says:

We shouldn’t have to worry about any attitude from DJAX until next year…after a big season and a trip to Minny. Then we can worry about attitudes.

Right now I think everybody is still to hungry to win for any attitude. And I feel good long term about this team…even after we win that SB this year because we have excellent “attitude police” in #3 and Koetter.

  14. feelthepewterpower Says:

It’s May…and it must be sweeps week for ratings in the national media lol

  15. bucs_365 Says:

Not interested in this supposed conflict unless it becomes an obvious problem. So far, it’s just a few words… everything else is pure speculation.

  16. NJBucsFan Says:

How can a former player just spout off like someone that is uneducated about the NFL?

There is no way they can feel they aren’t getting what they expected out of DJax because when it was said, veteran players and coaches were not allowed to have contact or organized practices.

    Moronic

  17. Drew Says:

Fake News!!! For once I would like to read a comment that didn’t mention Trump. If you don’t like what he’s done, then vote him out of office in 2020.

  18. 813bucboi Says:

I was a little caught off guard with his comments because we weren’t even practicing yet….im assuming monken did so to set the tone….I think that type of convo should’ve been had in house face to face and not in front of the media…..GO BUCS!!!!

  19. Maze Says:

Who cares what that broken down Panthers fan thinks. Next

  20. Tampabaybucfan Says:

There is ample evidence that some players (in all sports) have letdowns after big contracts are signed…..the Bucs have had their share….
I don’t think there is a thing wrong with a coach letting a player know that there are high expectations of them.\
It’s difficult to make that sort of comment about a player playing for minimum NFL wage.

Hats off to Monken for having some balls. And I hardly think Djax took offense.

  21. K2 Says:

Probably an over statement on Monken’s part…but the media seems to leave out all the positives that he mentioned. Positivies like how he’s explosive, takes the defense focus away from Mike, and gives the offense another dimension. If the media had the power they would start a new war in the world every day…just to cover it.

  22. Fsuking Says:

How can anyone speculate Djax isn’t giving his all after two OTA sessions. The speculation surrounding this team is getting so absurd and the Joe’s are not helping to stop it. I guess it’s a good think though, people care now

  23. Mike Johnson Says:

Why..would you try to//check a guy when he has not even hit the field? Monken was wrong. And I bet you all. coach Koetter put Monken in check. jackson signed his contract. Why is Monken pissed and jackson has done nothing yet. Hints of stright up jealousy and hate. Besides, Monkens track record is very average, if that. So he has no rommto critcize anybody. Do your job Monken..Coach. Leave the admin stuff to Koetter, he knows how to handle it.

  24. GhostofSchiano Says:

    @ DREW

Sorry, Didn’t mean to Trump your comment with mentioning the name of our current President. But maybe someone should sound the trumpet, play the trump card, sit on a stump, fire the ump, but for this season I am so pumped.

  25. Love and Warrick Dunn Says:

24/7 365 news cycle, nothing more.

  26. Drew Says:

    @GhostofSchiano

No offense taken. Divided we fall… United we stand… Use the fall of the Roman empire as one example and you’ll see some similarity to what is transpiring today.

    Go Bucs!!!

  27. Lord Cornelius Says:

Agree with 813 actually lol. Monken said this before Djax even practiced and before the coaches even worked with the players… what could he even be upset over then?

Djax himself said he actually went to work earlier in this offseason than in past offseasons..

    I’m not concerned.

  28. BigHogHaynes Says:

    I want a the truth………you can’t handle the truth!!

  29. Skipper Says:

How could Jackson not be offended by that idiot coach calling him out in a public forum, team is riding sky high and we have Monken the buzz kill.

  30. OneBuc55 Says:

Media heads are funny…They’re good at making something out of nothing…
All coach Monk is saying is…
Don’t come down here and slack off just because you got paid…period, point blank, end of story, Done..

  31. illwill83 Says:

seriously man terrible read what a reach yall better than this

  32. TNOLES Says:

Look, Jackson isn’t going anywhere and Monken should be thankful he still isn’t some B rated college program. In the real world talent offsets problems if you are extremely talented in what you do you are allowed more margin of error than if your not. Monken hasn’t had anything like Jackson to coach much less have the nerve to say something snide. Jackson will use this as motivation and dominate the south division as far as receivers go. Man we are only like three days into ota’s people are already looking for problems. Jamies is changing that mindset in the locker room and we as a fan base need to do the same.
