Jameis Winston Earns Top-100 Honor: No. 57

May 22nd, 2017

Recognized by peers

America is taking notice.

Tonight, America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, was voted by his peers as the 57th-best player in the National Football League.

It’s the first time Jameis has been honored on the annual NFL Network “Top-100 Players.”

“Almost like a Brett Favre,” manbeast Jaguars defensive tackle Calais Campbell said of Jameis. And other names weighed in, too. Saints DE Cameron Jordan talked about Jameis’ extreme competitiveness.

There was a lot of focus on Jameis’ crazy scramble and long completion against Chicago last season. You can see that here.

Joe is so happy for Jameis. It’s a well-deserved honor, and one Jameis should get for years to come. No Bucs QB had earned the honor since Josh Freeman ranked No. 83 following his extraordinary 2010 season.

…and if he’d used up all of his college eligibility he’d entering his rookie year

Bucs fans, you’re lucky. There’s quite a few people in the media who deserve an “I told you so”

  2. unbelievable Says:

#57! Good for young Jameis! The Ceiling is sky high

    #RespectIsEarned

  3. Destinjohnny Says:

    57 is about right
    Top 30 next year

  4. NFLNut Says:

57 is way too low imho but at least he’s ahead of Cousins and Rivers … however he better not be behind Mariota, Flacco … or even Cam but as that would mean Cam would have gone from #1 to not in the top 100 in a year’s time, that’s not realistic …

  5. NFLNut Says:

I think instead of the top 100 they should just do a top 32 … at each position. That would probably be a lot easier for the players to vote on as well as it’s a lot easier to evaluate the same position than to vote on who’s better between a wr and an olb, etc.

  6. NFLNut Says:

Gerald McCoy ahead of Jameis … um … no.

  7. DavidBigBucsfan99 Says:

Just don’t get injured or busted taking drugs Fameis because a number of these fans up here will turn their backs on you just like they’ve done Doug Martin

Leave it to Yucs fans^^^^^ to turn a positive article into some negative bullspit. Jeez, must be miserable living such a negative life

  10. Dan Solaz Says:

AMEN MIKE EVANS GOAT….I agree..I hate all the negative stuff these so called fans write on here!! Get the hell out of here with all the bucs bashing on our own site..SMH. STICK CARRIERS UNITE !!

  11. NFLNut Says:

I wasn’t being negative and am NOT one of the McCoy bashers … I just think it’s absurd to rank GMC ahead of the team’s leader and star, that’s all …

  12. Mike Evans GOAT Says:

    Not u NFL nut

  13. Tampa Tony Says:

Well deserved now so them you are too low by “stacking them w’s”

  14. Dan Solaz Says:

NFL nut.. I hear u bro.. N agree with u on that. But Winston will hopefully be top 25 mext year. I think we are all over the haters on here who put our boys dwn more than support our team. I still get bothered by all the GMC hate on here n really think they are insane to blame him for all our troubles in the past. We need to unite n rally behind our team..not just bash them. Some of these dudes have no clue..but i guess thet are allowed to voice their opinion none the less. LOOKING FORWARD TO A GREAT SEASON ! Go Bucs..STICK CARRIER !!

  15. NFLNut Says:

^ Thanks guys, I just didn’t want to my post misinterpreted 🙂

As for Jameis being top 25 next year … I can definitely see that, maybe even higher … it wouldn’t shock me if the only QB’s who have better years than Jameis next year are Brady, Rodgers and maybe Ryan … and I already think Jameis is better than Ryan.

As for GMC … I like the guy. Good player, good dude, good teammate … not sure why people bash him so much as it’s not like he’s a negative or a bust …

I don’t think people should compare players in a way where they expect players to act like other players … appreciate players for who they are not for who you wish they were or want them to play like.

  18. Pick6 Says:

a little bit of team success and the kid will keep climbing up the respect rankings. i feel that given the importance of the QB position, it’s hard to get into the top 50 without leading your team to the playoffs once or twice.

  19. LakeLandBuc Says:

With a improved O-Line, the sky is the limit for Jameis.

  20. Pick6 Says:

thanks for the youtube link, blake. the last 60 seconds of that were pure gold

  21. NFLNut Says:

It looks like Mariota didn’t even make the Top 100 … makes sense that he wouldn’t be ranked ahead of Alex Smith as he’s Alex Smith 2.0 imho … I kind of thought he would have at least cracked the list though …

  22. LakeLandBuc Says:

I’m not a Marcus Mariota fan, but the Titans are a team on the rise. They may make the playoffs before we do. They loaded up in free agency, they had an excellent draft. And they have a smart GM and Head Coach. The Titans had the 3rd best rushing offense in the NFL. Marcus Mariota only attempted 451 passes last season. Mike Mularkey believe in a game manager as his QB, the opposite of Dirk Koetter. You can’t compare Jameis Winston and Marcus Mariota, they play in two entirely different schemes. The Titans plays in the weakest division in the NFL. And we play in the toughest. Jameis is #57 on the top 100 list. Cam was Number 1 last season. I expect Drew Brees and Matt Ryan to be in the top 15 this season. That’s how much competition we have in the NFC South.

  23. NFLNut Says:

^ I agree. The Titans play in the worst division in the entire NFL and in a conference that in a couple years when Brady and Roethisberger retire will be up for the taking … but Mariota is still Alex Smith 2.0 to me an nowhere near the QB talent that Jameis is …

  24. LakeLandBuc Says:

NFLNut….Marcus Mariota is not as good as Jameis. But he don’t have to be, all he has to do is manage the game. Jon Robinson and Mike Mularkey has put a lot of weapons around him. And they have built a complete team. The only reason I’m mention this, is because people will be saying that Mariota has taken his team further than Jameis. Because I really believe the Titans will rule the AFC South for years. They was tied for 1st last season in that weak division.

  25. tnew Says:

Lakeland… Just a caveat. When you have two first round picks in this draft, you better have a good one, but taking Adoree Jackson over O.J. Howard with their style of offense, was craziness. That pick will be the Luke Keuchly pick for their fanbase for the next 10 seasons at least

  26. Pickgrin Says:

attaboy Jameis. A bit of R-E-S-P-E-C-T

    Top 20 next year!

  27. Defense Rules Says:

@Joe … “America is taking notice.” Says it all Joe, not just for Jameis but for the Bucs’ T-E-A-M as a whole.

  28. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

Little goatee boy take your panties out of your crack cause I was bashing the fans up here. The ones who bash the players the owners the team. It’s true these so called fans will turn on Fameis in an instant many on a game to game basis. You never see me bash my team. Some got the nerve to have Bucs in their screen names. I have been a supporter of Fameis Jameis since I found about him. So tske you face out of your butt and stop smelling yourself. You’re not the pattern for what a true Bucs fan is so put away your keyboard mental midget.

  29. webster Says:

Not a mariotta fan but he is good and many people say he is better than jameis. Do not be surprised that he is ranked higher than jameis on next week top 100. Also, the bucs and titans play a simular offense. Your coach said that this offseason. He spoke how they would watch film on how the titans attacked common opponents because the offenses are very simular. Dont get your panties in a bind, jameis was the best pick for this team, but not everyone will see him as better than mariotta. Its ok.

  30. Eric Says:

    NFLNut

Cam not making the top 100 this year is absolutely realistic. He had the second worst completion percentage in the league in 2016. The guy had 19 tds to 14 ints. That’s terrible. I’m getting really annoyed with the cam love. The guy is extremely overrated. He is definitely the most athletic player in the league imo but he was naturally gifted with his size. That is why he’s good. His dual threat ability and I think that’s been taken away from him. Let’s see how good he is at being a pocket qb.

I used to want mariota to underperform because of the jameis comparisons but I want him to succeed now. We will barely play them. He’s definitely not better than jameis though no matter what casual fans tell you.

Jameis had the 2nd highest passing yards in the nfl. Barely any yac. Mariota had top 10 yac. He’s a dink and dunk qb with home run threat but jameis is a gunslinger and will always outperform him in these respective offenses. Excited to see how mm does with corey davis though. I think that was an excellent choice and I also think them taking adoree was better for them cuz they have walker and desperately needed a cb in which adoree is good.

  31. webster Says:

    @ eric

Cam is good because he worked hard. To say he is only good because he was gifted with his size is so off base. There have been many people/athletes that have been gifted with size and sucked. It takes more than size to be good. You dont have to like cam, but to say he is not good or a serious problem for defenses is just stupid and shows you cant have an objective argument.

  32. Eric Says:

    Webster

You’re absolutely right. It may have came across that that was the ONLY reason he was successful but there’s more to it than that. The guy is not a good passer. Period. He worked hard and is deserving of respect but he wouldn’t be as successful if he didn’t have his size. That’s undebatable. He would have been injured a long time ago. If you take away his rush ability, the guy is a below average quarterback.

Btw I even stated that he’s the most athletic player in the league so that is evidence that I am utilizing an objective argument. He is a great player, he deserves respect, but do you really think he would excel strictly in the pocket? Because that is just stupid and THAT IS MY POINT.

  33. Buc1987 Says:

    #1 in my house.

  34. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

First of all why are we talking about Marcus A Brittleman Mariota? Fameis is our qb go talk about him on teen titans talk radio!

  35. Eric Says:

You’re gonna have a rough time in these threads if you don’t expect to hear mariota references bro.

  36. Bucsfanman Says:

Great job Jameis! Continue to rise!

  37. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

No rough time cuz since I don’t care about a Mariootah!

  38. Dan Solaz Says:

Exactly DAVIDBIGBUCSFAN99.. Im with u bro. Jameis is and always has been better than the dude in Tennessee. Bucs are gonna be on top for many years to come.

  39. Eric Says:

oh he absolutely is, but MM is mentioned a lot in here so you’re gonna have to expect it.

    Just saying.

  40. holymoly13 Says:

    Excellent !

  41. webster Says:

    Eric

What are you talking about. You said he was overrated. Excel in the pocket? You can say that about any player in any sport. Is michael jordan the greatest without his leaping ability and hang time? He was not a great three point shooter so does that mean he was not a great shooting guard because he was no ray allen from behind the line? You dont judge a player based on taking away part of his game and ask what would he be. You judge a player based on what he does bring to the game as a whole ie attributes and limitations. In cam’s case his attributes and limitations equates to a great player period. THATS MY POINT

  42. Eric Says:

    LMAO

What the hell are you talking about? Did you just reference basketball and proceed to utilize the analogy of Michael Jordan’s hang time? SMH

Newton’s goal is two things, passing and rushing. There are very few QBs in history known for their rushing ability and passing is their #1 job, really. He is not an above average passer. PERIOD. What are you not comprehending about my post? You take away Newton’s rushing ability in which won’t last much longer and last year showed strong signs of regression and he’s a below average QB, as evident by his subpar play and therefore overrated. You take away Jordan’s hang time and he’s still one of the best to every play the game. MJ’s hangtime is a little different than Newton’s rushing. LOL

Yes, excel in the pocket as in his passing game which is not good. You CANNOT say that about any player in any sport. WTF are you talking about dude? Cam has had 1 GREAT season. Last year was not GREAT.

YOUR POINT IS DUMB AS HELL.

    @david little bucs fan
Lol, u must be a child. I’ve never seen u on here b4 and your comments were completely unfounded and irrelevant. No need to bring negativity (which is exactly what you did) to an otherwise positive article. Nowhere in that post did I say u were bashing JW3 or the team, so you might want to up your reading comprehension. I said u where a YUC fan and were being unnecessarily negative.

  44. David Smith Says:

Ha ha ha goatcheese nice try. Been up here for 3 years now. Irrelevant what you think or say. Been a Bucs fan a long time maybe longer than you maybe not but you’re simply a non factor. So funny how a simpleton like you wants to rag on my post, don’t forget fool there ain’t no rules on JoeBucsFan.com about positive commentary

Well posting under multiple screen names IS against the rules. So, I might leave that alone if I were you
