“Perfect”

April 4th, 2017

Fave move.

BSPN’s “The Professor,” John Clayton, has seen a lot of NFL moves in his days.

So when looking back at the 2017 free agency feeding frenzy and land rush, Clayton decided to pick his favorite moves.

And only Brandon Marshall going to the Giants, for Clayton, topped Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht’s power play to secure Flash Jackson.

Jackson’s willingness to be the No. 2 receiver to Mike Evans should have the same effect as Marshall’s move to the Giants. Because of extra coverage on Evans, the Bucs had only 43 completions of 20 yards or more last season, which was tied for 24th overall in the league. Jackson has averaged 17.7 yards per catch during his career. He’s perfect as a No. 2 receiver in coach Dirk Koetter’s offense.

Joe never dove that deep into the numbers because Joe’s naked eyes saw the Bucs’ woeful receiving outside of Mike Evans.

If the Bucs can only land a decent running back in the draft, this offense could be lethal. What does a defense do? Take out Evans? Take out Flash? Stop the run?

Cook in the 1st, Safety in the 2nd (hope baker falls), JuJu in the 3rd

  2. DPewter Says:

I believe an elite TE and a good RB in the second or third would be more lethal. One can only hope that Mixon falls that deep.

  3. tdtb2015 Says:

Cook will be gone before the 19th pick.

    1st DE
    2nd CB
    3rd WR
    4th RB
    5th OL

    Go Bucs!!!

  4. Buc1987 Says:

tdtb…If one of the top DE’s is still there at 19 sure.

I don’t see it though. I really have them going rb in the first should the right one fall into their lap. Be it Cook or McCaffrey. I think they go O at 19 either way.

  5. SB Says:

Coming from someone that used to have to watch his mother get beat by his dad, I will have a REALLY hard time

  6. SB Says:

Supporting Mixon if we draft him.

  7. Ben the Ga Buc Says:

I can’t see Licht passing up on Greg Hardy because he didn’t feel good about it, and then all of a sudden feeling good about drafting Joe Mixon.

  8. d-roca Says:

Bucs will not draft mixon. Its caught on tape, horrendous act. He will go somewhere unfortunately, just not here. N yessss the djax move is a huge one. Weve been needing his game for years. N ole dirky has been calling for explosiveness, so i see quick n fast weapons coming for winston. Go bucs

  9. Vico Says:

This team is so close to having no visible big cracks that we fans are getting anxious about getting to that point. I think even AP could do and make this team, as it is now without all the potential development teams get during a season, The most likely division champion. I don’t want to seem over optimistic, but imo th draft/fa decisions will mark the difference between winning 9 and be at risk of missing the playoffs again on tiebreakers, and winning 11 or more and be thinking about hfa in December. To me it should go like this:

1st: DE the key to winning the division is still stopping matty, cam and drewito, another good DE could result in havving a top5 DLine to do so.
2nd: RB deep draft, we might get just the talent we need there… but I wouldn’t take the team’s focus on the divisional title with Mixon’s issues.
3rd: TE Brate has been great but I think a counterpart on the other side of the offense would be the nail on the coffin for any defense (contemplating that rb spot has been covered now…)
4th: OL Koetter likes his guys, but he might also like someone in the draft to strengthen the Oline

  10. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

“…Jackson has averaged 17.7 yards per catch during his career.”

People always mention his yards per catch. He has a career average of 55 receptions per year. This made me wonder what his drops were like.

    2012. 45 receptions. ZERO DROPS.

    2013. 82 receptions. 2.4% drops. (3)

    2014. 56 receptions. 3.2% Drops. (3)

    2015. 30 Receptions. ZERO DROPS.

    2016. 56 Receptions. 3% Drops. (3)

That is pretty darn good. While his receptions are low, his drops are too. This makes me feel much better about this signing.

  11. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

Almost every mock I am seeing these days has Cook still available when the Bucs pick. For some reason I don’t think the Bucs will take him even if he is there and I will be pissed off about it. I think it is a huge area of need and for whatever reason I think they are looking to address a different need with that first pick.

  12. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Ben the Ga Buc Says
“I can’t see Licht passing up on Greg Hardy because he didn’t feel good about it, and then all of a sudden feeling good about drafting Joe Mixon.”

That is not a fair comparison. Greg Hardy did MUCH worse, even threw her on a bed of guns and threatened to kill her.

Mixon was physically and verbally attacked and responded in the heat of the moment. Had the same thing happened to a woman, the judge would have sided with her. It was clearly a biased decision, because he was assaulted in the eyes of the law (just not the biased judge).

To make it clear…the woman threatened him and then struck him. He only acted in self defense.

We live in a world where women claim they deserve and can do everything a man can do. This woman struck first, and was hit fir her troubles. Would I have done the same? Probably not. But in the unbiased, none politically correct eyes of the law, he was justified.

And the video CLEARLY shows this.

  13. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

TouchDownTampaBay, every year, we see these mocks come close in the top five, and then almost completely go astray. Don’t believe the mocks.

  14. Tony from Los Angeles Says:

Just say those magic words, Joe…

“Mixon heading to Tampa for a pre-draft visit.”

  15. SOEbuc Says:

If they don’t get Cook in the first I would like to try to get D’eonta Foreman in the third. He had ten games of 100+ rushing yards in a serious conference last year.

  16. StPeteBucsfan Says:

    SB

Sorry for your childhood experiences. I suspect we are not the only two here who survived loser wife beating fathers. And I’m with you. Its HARD TO FORGET!!!

My strongest memory is hiding under the bed at age of 6-7 while my ole man was beating my mom’s head against the wall. Her head made a sound like thumping a watermelon. Made me do all kinds of moronic stuff growing up and even older.
Too many fights…and too many stupid decisions like volunteering for Vietnam to prove I was really a man and not the little weasel who hid under his bed whizzing his pants instead of defending my mom.

So Mixon would be a pill for me as well. The hardest part for me about the “Mixon love” here though is not ignoring rearranging a smaller totally non threatening female is pretty hard to understand…if he’s that afraid of a “girl” that he needs to rearrange her grill how will he defend himself against the “men” in then NFL.

But the thing that amazes me is that this kid is NOT the next coming of AP or Lawrence Phillips. He a very talented back but as everybody Keeps pointing out the draft is loaded with quality RB’s. Why even mess with Mixon. He’s NOT really THAT great! His numbers are inconsistent against weak defenses. He’s good…he’s not all that!!!

  17. Oxycondoms Says:

Im a nole fan but cooks problems he had with his hamstrings kind of worries me .

  18. StPeteBucsfan Says:

    Bonzai

The video DOES NOT show the entire incident. We do not know exactly what happened outside the club before the altercation.

You don’t make Mixon look anybody playing situational ethics with a loser like Hardy who clearly should have gone to jail.

I’m not suggesting as some that Mixon should get no second chance in life. Wouldn’t bother me though if he had to the CFL for a couple of years first though.

Any “man” who feels the need to punch a loud mouthed drunken woman in the face is not really a “man”! He’s a very sick person with incredible anger management issues.

The woman was wrong for being drunk, rude, and offensive and in the wrong place at the wrong time. Mixon was guilty of exactly the same sins. Mixon is a 6-1 230 lb athlete in the prime of his life. He had NO excuse to punch ANY woman in the face. He could have done the “manly” thing and just walked out of the club. He made a huge mistake and now he’s paying for it.

Excuse me if I do not feel sorry for jackwagons who have been handed life on a silver platter who then waste a multimillion dollar opportunity. Odds are he’s still going to make millions anyway. Hopefully he’ll find a good agent who lines him up with some decent people that keep him out of situtations where he struggles with anger management issues.

  19. JonBuc Says:

I couldn’t agree more with John Clayton ( McCardell with elite speed ? ) and less with Buccaneer BrownEye’s rhetoric i.e. ” she had it coming!” Shouldn’t be surprised I suppose…

  20. C2 Says:

Once she spits on me, calls me the N-word and slaps me in my face as I urge her to back away… she is no longer a lady and she gets whatever she gets. If Mixon were a white man who defended himself against a Black woman who spit on him and assaulted him, he would served a short suspension and the incident would have been over. Instead this young man had to sit out a year and be constantly prosecuted the rest of his life. Yet Big Ben can troll campus bars for new victims and still get cheered on Sundays.

  21. celly Says:

If Mixon were a white man who defended himself against a Black woman who spit on him and assaulted him, he would served a short suspension and the incident would have been over

That true statement is wasted here because everyone will say it’s not a race thing.

  22. Vico Says:

C2 comparing an agressor with a bigger agressor doesn’t change the agression or relief the victim from the damage done. Your perspective is good and Ben Roethlisberger is still a bad guy in a lot of people’s opinion. But when (if) Mixon wears a buccaneer jersey, noise would come to the lockeroom with questions that won’t be about football. Let’s not forget our QB was in the middle of other allegations, the media will have a field trip finding trends that are not necessarily true. The result? The team and coaches will have a lot more to handle than just next week’s opposition and injuries. That is a liability and I hope it is avoided.

  23. Jdr Says:

The Bucs new running back in a virtual Titan that can play h-back as well as block, run routes and catch ther are plenty of running backs and ony 1 TRUE OJ HOWARD.

  24. Broy34 Says:

I sympathize for the guys with domestic violence issues but could do without reading “bashing my mom’s head against the wall” while reading comments on a football website. Please and thanks. As to the article. This team needs to go after Corey Davis or Mike Williams if fournette is there. Maaayb take cook but I love the film of the Toledo kid. However I would love to draft McCaffrey and watch him go to work and then even draft a true back later. D end second round maybe. Possibly safety in the 2nd. I don’t want film that much but I would move up for Adams. A ball hawk all around stud safety propels thjs team into January. We need one more weapon offensively. The people that say”blank has great instincts and ball skills” and “we should draft blank in the 5th” make me laugh cuz they know nothing in reality. Highlights on YouTube show the good plays. There’s a lot to see in the bad plays and we never see those. Let the experts get it done and hope for your guys. THE ABSOLUTE BEST are the people who talk about fifth round offensive lineman. Skill positions are the only thing we can judge

  25. Buc1987 Says:

    Oxycondoms Says:

“Im a nole fan but cooks problems he had with his hamstrings kind of worries me.”

Meeeee tooo. That’s why I’m with McCaffery. but whatever. I won’t sneeze at Cook. No trade up though. No, not anymore.

  26. Stpetebucsfan Says:

Guys give up on the comparisons already. Mixon is certainly not the first guy who has messed up but comparing him to losers like Roethlisberger doesn’t make Mixon look anybetter. I could compare Trump to Hitler and Trump still doesn’t look all that great.

Race is a part of EVERYTHING in America. As a black man said however…if McCaffery weren’t white he’d be a top ten pick. I do not disagree and I’m sure I’m suspicious of McCaffery simply because of his skin tone. I use my brains to fight those ignorant feelings but I need to deal with them.

If you guys can’t see the difference in a 6-1 230 lb highly trained athete going full UFC face punch on a freaking woman half his size…NO MATTER WHAT SHE SAID…is JUST NOT RIGHT!!! IF you’re man you don’t smack women around period. The trick is called anger management and choosing your situtations. Again Mixon COULD HAVE SIMPLY WALKED AWAY!!!! He had the choice. I don’t know what the hell your parents are teaching you guys but the simple fact that a woman may be drunk and obnoxious is not persmissable in a society with couth. Oh but that’s the problem isn’t it. We became uncouth somewhere over the past few decades. TV? Social Media? Lack of anger management throughout our ENTIRE freaking society? Leaders encouraging their supporters to punch dissidents in the face….IF you think you have the right to punch a much smaller woman in her grill because she is drunk, obnoxious and offensive you should look in the mirror and ask why you think you should be able to do this? It’s simply wrong!

Again I’m not lobbying to keep him out of the league….but really what he did was a major mistake and comparing Big Ben….Hardy…pointing out the racial component in our reaction is irrelevant. It was WRONG! It’s as simple as that.

  27. Hunter Says:

    Njoku
    Zay Jones
    Marlon Mack

  28. Pistol Pete Says:

Maybe I missed this, but Mixon was in a public place, and could and very well should have chosen to walk away from the situation. Period.
I cannot understand violence in any form when there is an EXIT.
That being said, there is plenty of talent in this draft at RB.
Still feel that is Ryan Ramczyk is there at 19, you take him.
Solidify one tackle position for the next decade.

  29. getaclue Says:

    I like
    1st OBI
    2nd Zay Jones
    3rd Foreman/Mack

  30. First Down Tampa Bay Says:

Not a definite positional need for this draft, but I’m sure Jason Licht will nail it.

  31. Frank n Furter Says:

    Good God.
Mixon was NOT 6’1” and 230lbs THREE YEARS AGO when he was a new, scrawny freshman of 17 SEVENTEEN years old who hadn’t even started classes yet!!

He paid his dues. He accepted his punishment, apologized, community service, suspensions …

It was horrible and not right.

I just love how holier than thou so many can be. It has been my experience that those that condemn the loudest are not doing so out of moral outrage, but out of their own inner shame. Those that think this kid should have his whole life ruined because of one idiotic act… I really wonder what it is inside of you that you must condemn. What nasty little misogynistic acts are hiding in your past?!

The video makes it a PR problem. But this kid has already been punished. If this is really “who he is” we would see a LOT more flags.

Let he who is without sin cast the first stone.

  32. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    @Stpetebucsfan

An excerpt from one of the books I’m working on:

“I lay in the darkness, miserable and afraid.

The house was still and quiet, but I knew it would not last. My sister was in her room fast asleep, and the hour was late. Reaching down beside my mattress, I felt along the bedframe for the lead pipe I had hidden there, pulled it out and hugged it close. Would I be able to use it to defend myself and my mother? Or would I chicken out like I had so many times in the past?”

    True story. I was 13.

  33. Me? Says:

I hate what Joe Mixon did as much as anyone, but let’s face facts-he will be playing on a NFL team next year, and if he’s good and can be had at a value pick, why not us?

I’ve done a 180 on this issue in the past, not wanting pieces of sh!t on our team, to only see them thrive somewhere else. So until the NFL as an organization gets their stuff together, why be rieghtous losers when we can be winners with some blemishes

  34. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

And yet Fameis still cracked out 4000 and 61% completion with only Godzilla13 to throw to. I would say impressive for a 2nd year. With Action Jackson taking the top of defenses if we get OJ in the 1st and any of the good WRs and RBs in the 2nd and 3rd I said it before Fameis will throw for 5000 yards and 36 tds. We will make the playoffs.
