New NFC South Rivalry

April 16th, 2017

Preparing for DeSean Jackson.

Yeah, one could say it’s a rivalry game any time a team faces a division foe. After all, you play teams in your division twice annually.

Sometimes, there is a game within a game. And that could be happening when the Bucs play the Dixie Chicks.

You see, Dixie Chicks cornerback Desmond Trufant received a five-year contract extension. And already he’s looking forward to playing the Bucs.

Why? Because it is very likely Trufant will have to match-up against new Bucs receiver DeSean Jackson. Vaughn McClure of BSPN brings word Trufant can’t wait to tangle with Jackson.

“He’s obviously one of the best,” Trufant said of Jackson. “He’s been doing it for a long time now. I’ve been watching him for a long time, just kill people over and over again. I’m definitely excited to go up against a player like that two times a year.”

Joe didn’t get the impression this was trash talk. It’s more like iron sharpens iron. Trufant wants to test himself against Jackson and feels if he can hang with Jackson, he can hang with anyone.

So this will be cool to watch, if Trufant can keep up with Jackson, or if Jackson simply fries him for winning Bucs coach Dirk Koetter’s favorite play: explosive.

Well, if they want to play that game then Godzilla will eat them alive on the other side of the field. Pick your poison.

@DallasBuc…..Right! Where’s my daily Dalvin Cook love fest? I feel almost lost now without it! Maybe the Joe’s have been kidnapped or something and this is there way of signaling something’s not right….no Cook slobberfest! I think the FBI needs to investigate!

Nothing new at all. They have been our biggest rival since this division was formed. Or were you not here for the Michael Vick days?

  7. SB Says:

    Happy Easter! He is risen.

@Joe … “One could say it’s a rivalry game any time a team faces a division foe. ” Some divisions in sports have some highly celebrated matchups … Yankees vs Red Sox for instance. Dallas vs Washington might be another good example. In the NFC South, tend to think that Bucs vs the Stinkin’ Panthers has stood out, although every division game is always tough. Right now the Falcons happen to be riding high, thanks to last year’s SB appearance, but I suspect they’ll be dethroned this year by either the Bucs or the Panthers.

And to SB: ‘Happy Easter. He is risen indeed!’

This will go like most great rivalries…sometimes DJAX will win…sometimes Trufant. It’ll be fun watching the Atlanta-Tampa games in the coming years.

I can’t get fired up about Charlotte and NO is nearing the end of their run…I think it’s Hotlanta and Tampa Bay fighting it out for the next few years.

I agree that the race could very well be with Atlanta but you can never count out anyone in this division. I hope that Atlanta struggles after choking away the Super Bowl. Our Bucs should be much improved especially on offense. I think we will be improved in our run stopping on defense but we have to be a lot better at our pass rush and coverage. An improvement in either of those areas will help the other.

Thi.k we matchup very good against Atlanta. We done just OK at defending their #1 threat but are gonna need to get better and take away a few more plays there. We have been capable of taking awayy their run but our run defense as a whole took a step backwards last year so they better fix the holes or we are in trouble. Fully expect both of those areas to play better in the 2nd year of this defense and think we can take the division from them.

One factor that can proove to be a difference maker is the Falcons defense. They are young and improving and just how good they can be this year is somewhat of a mystery. Of course the same can be said of our offense so we could be in for a memorable fight for the division this year. I hope we get them at home late in the season.

Personally, I’m a little more concerned with how we will defend against Julio & their O than DJack v. Trufant.

  13. Buccfan37 Says:

All of the Bucs division mates are tough games. None are won without a knock down all out effort. There are no easy games playing the NFC South.

  14. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Don’t believe for a second that the Panthers won’t turn things around again. The Saint’s too. Brees will want to go out with a Superbowl.

  15. Capt.Tim Says:

The Koetter and Mike Smith Ties , make The Atlanta rivalry real personel for the Bucs. Atlanta is a good match up for us. We can take them twice a year!

    He is risen indeed!
    Happy Easter all!

    Go Bucs!

  16. BucsFan90 Says:

    Amen Sb. Happy Easter yall.

  17. SB Says:

Nice!!! Happy Easter to you guys as well.😁

  18. jb Says:

It looks to me, more like Truant’s simply hoping he doesn’t have to cover the guy on the other side of Jackson. Evans OWNS him , and he knows it! Evans showed neither Truant OR Richard Sherman can hang with him!
Hope everyone had a safe & Happy Easter.
