Jason Licht Answers Questions

April 29th, 2017

After Friday’s close of the NFL Draft’s Round 3 — after the Bucs jumped up for its very last pick — general manager Jason Licht answered questions about the selections of safety Justin Evans, receiver Chris Godwin and linebacker Kendell Beckwith.

Here’s the full audio below, from WDAE-AM 620.

Nothing real earth-shattering in there. Joe does not believe the implication that the Bucs are high on Doug Martin to the point where he has a future with the team.

Lmao the man has said over and over that they like martin I don’t understand what you’re missing. Also notice he brought up the retirement of Logan, the fans were right about the line all along

  2. BuccaneerByBirth Says:

Idk Joe…..it looks like Doug ain’t going anywhere

  3. Lamarcus Says:

Man. Joe seems to dislike Martin. Martin stays. I’m realizing failing drug tests isnt enough to get cut or ineffective play. See Flash Gordon, martEl Bryant, bell, mcclain, cushing, etc. Hell, Gordon hasn’t played in 3 years and still on the browns

  4. Make America Brate Again Says:

Doug Martin ain’t going anywhere Joe!! I don’t know when you are going to come to this conclusion, it’s right in front of you!

  5. Kobe Faker Says:

I told everyone when they stated “rehab”, martin wasnt going anywhere

I will be surprized if goofy licht cancels the contract and doesnt pay his enormous contract this year

    Hey joes

Time for images of our starter quizz rodgers posted more often

He is a damn good back and we as fans should support him of what he did last year and what he will do in 2017

  6. Born again Bucs fan Says:

I don’t want scrub drug a?! Martin! Get Perine! Otherwise our running backs will look like our WR last year!!!

  7. Conte Piscateli Says:

Let’s see the guy has two pro bowl seasons and was second in the league in rushing a year ago. Obviously, he is capable. The question is what happened last year? Was it the line, was his head not right? If Martin comes back from suspension and tears up the NFL like 2015 everyone will be saying I’m glad we didn’t dump him.

  8. Mike Evans GOAT Says:

My favorite rb is still on the board anyway. Brian Hill is gonna tear this league up. Let’s just hope he does it in Pewter and Red

  9. LakeLandBuc Says:

Doug Martin, Quizz Rodgers, Charles Sims is going to tear this league up this season.

  10. Michael Jones Says:

I think we made a good choice with draft pick fits winston style of play perfectly! Quick releases up the middle and quick slants, this will be a passing bucs team not a run and pound.

  11. Supersam Says:

Joe just can’t accept the fact Martin is here for a long time SMH. Total denial.

  12. tdtb2015 Says:

Redo his contract. Make him prove he is back on track. Martin can make us dangerous if he has his head is on straight. I would still try to get Perine.

    In Licht We Trust!!!

  13. FuNkYxMuNkEy Says:

Still plenty of good backs available. Looking for Licht to get us a 4th by trading next year’s picks

  14. Warren Sapp Says:

    Tj Logan UDFA North Carolina

  15. SB Says:

Trade next year’s third to get to the top of the fourth and take Perine

  16. Gencoimports Says:

Joe doesn’t want to believe. He may need to get some therapy if he stays in denial.

  17. LakeLandBuc Says:

I believe this year will be loaded with UDFAs,we can find a few gems at CB, WR, KR/PR, OLB and probably a potentia backup QB.

  18. Tomcin Says:

They should have drafted RB Hunt instead of the WR they drafted.

  19. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

With us not drafting a running back (so far), it appears Dougie Martin has the advantage here.

  20. LakeLandBuc Says:

Our first pick today will be at 162, we should grab a CB or another WR…there’s still value at those positions.

  21. FuNkYxMuNkEy Says:

I agree with trading a 3rd next year for a top of the 4th pick and take a RB. Perine, Williams, several others as well

  22. Kevinthepainterimagine Says:

Joe also didnt believe there was any way the Bucs would pass on Dalvin Cook if he were still sitting there at 19. On the radio today they pointed out that Martin had been dealing with his addiction for a while….this isnt new. meaning he was doing it during his pro bowl seasons. If thats true, then what would a clean Doug Martin look like? Perhaps better than we have ever seen? Factor in on top op that ,they have NEVER had recieving options like this to keep the defenses from loading up the box, and sweezy coming back, this could be a running game that we have never seen before. Fans will specualte and have all tyoes of opinions, but all that matters is if the moves made work we will ALL be happy in the end. I still think they get a running back but if they dont I wont be shocked. Rodgers did pretty damn good last season with little help. All he needs to do.is carry the load gor three games. Its not that far fetched.

“Until they announce that Doug Martin is released, we have a RB…and a prtty darn good depth too.

But I do agree that WR is a secondary priority.”

So…like Joe I could look back in time and say I predicted this. But here’s the thing…

…I was wrong. We DO need a RB. Yes, we could keep Martin and get by for a year…but we should not have to worry about that. We need a short yardage back at the very least. And our Running Game will not get much better until we do.

  24. Kevinthepainterimagine Says:

IF they do.take a back I want Perine!!!

  25. ChanEpic Says:

I LOVE that they may be sticking with Martin. The old Bucs would’ve cut bait and watched Mr. Martin go tear it up elsewhere. Sticking through the thick AND thin, is a sign of a maturing organization. Let’s hope both the Bucs and Martin move forward, TOGETHER.

  26. Kobe Faker Says:

I made this youtube video for you guys

*I apologize for the bad reception in my moms basement

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AN1kiaGa-uo

  27. uckinator Says:

Lakelandbuc – I totally agree. Defensive coordinators have to respect the passing game. Especially deep balls. This will open up the running lanes once the running back breaks through the line of scrimmage. This will be a fun teams to watch. Don’t know much about the 2nd round pick (safety -Can’t be bad as taken in the 2nd round), but so far, this draft deserves a grade of A. and there are no A+’s in my system.

  28. Mike Evans GOAT Says:

Still want Brian Hill. He could be there in the 5th if we’re lucky

  29. Kevinthepainterimagine Says:

Only thing I saw on Godwin that scares me.is he likes to push off the corner right before the catch in tight coverage. But if theu drafyed him for fhe slot that wont be as much of an issue.

  30. rayjay1122 Says:

I am as hacked of at Martin as anyone. Knowing his trends though, this will be one of his good seasons. It is the season after that he will under perform again.

Is Jamaal Charles still a UFA? Heard he is healthy and I do not see why the Bucs do not at least take a look at him. Could be a stop gap at RB.

  31. Mike Evans GOAT Says:

Let’s not panic, there is still SOOOOO much talent left on the board at rb. I say take Brian Hill in the 5th and take a flyer on 6’8 360lb rt Zachary banner in the 7th

  32. Bucballbaby84 Says:

Would be pretty sweet if the bucs could find a way back into the 4th round and get offensive guard Dorian Johnson from Pitt. Would add good depth to the offensive line.

  33. Bucballbaby84 Says:

He could even turn out to be a starter.

  34. Mike Evans GOAT Says:

Wow, Air Force screwed jalon robonette and he can’t join the NFL until his 2years of service is up!

  35. Pa Privateer Says:

I honestly have no idea where players will go in these late rounds. Who knows where Mack, Hill, Perine, Williams etc will land. We could see a RB in the 5th.

Honestly at this point I can accept keeping Martin. With all the talent we have in the passing game, teams can no longer stack the box.

I say get some big uglies and prepare to make the phone calls for UDFA.

  36. Pa Privateer Says:

    I like

    OG Isaac Asiata,
    OT Sam Tevi,
    DT Grover Stewart
    RB Brian Hill
    RB Joe Williams

  37. Tampa Tony Says:

Joe has a tendency to over analyze and infer things that aren’t there in any Bucs officials quote but can’t accept what Licht has to say…

Denial is a humorous thing especially when we all see it but Joe doesn’t

  38. Bucamania Says:

Godwin was an absolute steal and the right pick. I wanted James Conner but they’ll find a RB. I’m not worried. Maybe Blount comes home to Tampa.

  39. mike Says:

I may have to start my own fan site, this guy Joe is something else with his repetitive delusional nonsense commentary, it’s like tuning into a mentally ill person every day, because it’s the only thing out there. Sad for Tampa Bay fans.

Joe, are you a journalist or a just another know it all, idiot fan?

  40. feelthepewterpower Says:

We’ll keep Martin. He will come back under a new deal, however. He’ll also be ridiculously good with defenses not stacking the box and having to honor the pass-game. Dont forget that Sims is our flanker Rb that led the league in pards per touch in 2015.

  41. The Anomaly Says:

Martin is trash. Can’t stand that loser. He only tries half the time.

Garbage player. I hope we draft a RB.

  42. Buccaneer scotty Says:

They didn’t want a running back people (joe) or we would have one already!

  43. Viejo_Sombrero19 Says:

Joe your gonna let them hammer you like that wow lol

  44. Buccfan37 Says:

Kobe Faker… is that you in the video? A Rams fan lol.

  45. Gilhealy Says:

Exactly, Kobe. Give Jaquizz some pub. Show him some respect. He’s family. And, he’s gonna come out of the gate quick. It’s gonna be a whole new offense we run out this year. All should shine. The beauty of this team is it is indeed, Family. Jameis will have them all playing above what they think they’re capable of. Rodgers is no slouch.

  46. BigHogHaynes Says:

HAMMER / can’t touch this! The only back for this team was THE MIDIGATING FACTOR JOE MIXON and we let him slip away, would have been value up the A$$ in round 3….so we will bring in some little light-weights and Licth will piss in your face and tell you it’s raining outside!!! And we’ll say IN LICTH WE TRUST!!ha ha ha ha ha ha!!!!

  47. Kobe Faker Says:

    Gil

Quizz will be top 5 rushing yards after game 3 and only koetter will stop him by sharing the load for the rest of the season

    Quizz/martin/simms on 3rd/barber relief

    All can catch

Draftnerds are plenty this time of the year…need to filter posts to find gems with football knowledge like mine as a professional power poster

  48. Kobe Faker Says:

    Buccfan37

I dedicated the black glasses to my girl, Jenna L

  49. SteelStudBuc Says:

I told yall Cook was not going to get drafted and Doug Martin is gonna stay a Buc. Doug is gonna shine so bright Joe you’re gonna have to wear sunglasses when u interview him cuz u won’t be able to look him in the eyes.

  50. Bucs Fan Since '76 Says:

Licht has demonstrated a gambler streak. The gamble here seems to be that Martin bounces back to 2015 form. The payoff if he does is perhaps the best offense in the NFC.

  51. Owlykat Says:

Did you notice that Licht is from Idaho? That explains why he has stuck with the Muscle Hamster from Boise State, despite his durability and trust issues and poor production last year before he was hurt, and ignored our local USF Superior Running Back and all FSU Fans wanting Cook right along with Jameis. Instead he has used our fifth pick to draft another Boise State poor clone of shrimp Dougie. Hopefully the new guy is no druggie like the Muscle Hamster. When Peterson is running all over the Bucs for the Saints next year who got him for only 3.5 million, this explains why Licht blew him off too with his superior know it all grin. I agree Licht signed two outstanding free agents this year, and I expected Licht to out draft our opponents but it didn’t happen. If this costs us another year without making the playoffs Licht should be fired. Seriously, even the Rookie GM with the Forty Niners did better drafting than Licht and would have been a lot cheaper than Licht and also is on our Ring of Honor. Licht should never be, if this poor draft is any indication.
