“Hard Knocks” Answer Soon?

April 10th, 2017

Announcement looming?

Most right-thinking Bucs fans want this. And it seems, so does Team Glazer.

There isa movement of sorts to coerce HBO to allow the Bucs to be featured on “Hard Knocks,”the training camp, NFL Films-produced reality series that appears each summer on the cable outfit.

And it seems the team which will be pulled out of the hat of eight eligible teams may be near.

Per Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times, Team Glazer wants an answer from the NFL in the coming hours.

The Bucs have vowed full cooperation but have asked the league and network for an answer sometime [this] week.

If last year is any indication, HBO has been dawdling on announcement. Last year HBO named the Rams as their featured team on March 23. Today is April 10.

So when will we find out? In the immortal words of Moe Howard, we shall see.

And for those who live in the 1950s and suffer from ADD/OCD and think Hard Knocks is a distraction, then the NFL should never televise a game. After all, there are cameras all over the place during games. What’s more sinister, a distraction (ahem) at practice in August or a distraction in a game?

Is their any other team that wants to be featured more than Tampa Joe?

    Bingo!

You need to shift from coffee to REDBULL baby!!!!!

We are made for Hard Knocks!!!!

  3. The Buc Realist Says:

If the owners signed up the Bucs and are forcing it on them, then that is fine!! they can sell more jersey’s and the Buc fans out west will love it!!! But I will think of the year differently!!! My expectations for the team has changed!!!! The goal of going deep in the playoffs will change to “just being national recognized”!!!!!!

In other words I will give coaches and players a huge pass this year if we do the NFL’s longest commercial!!!!!!

I do not see how this helps the team on the field, and I do not see NFL’s best head coaches lining up to be on it!!!!!!

    Go Bucs!!!!!!!!!!

  4. macabee Says:

What about the age old concept of “just having fun’. Of course HBO will want to highlight the dramatic part of it where players are inevitably invited to come to the office and bring your playbook (or maybe they just erase your IPad now). It may be refreshing and just maybe they will have some fun. They have the characters for it! I will watch! Go Bucs!

  5. Kobe Faker Says:

    Question for the 2not-joes

Any news update on the enclosed practice field?..im thinking this is why HBO is waiting. Im pretty sure the producers dont like our summer rains and thunder cancellations effecting the show

Im praying we get the show!

Weather won’t be a factor in the show decision. Makes no sense. It’s not like the players go home for the day.–Joe

  6. The Buc Realist Says:

Maybe the owners pulled a “kobe faker” when they said that they would have the indoor practice field down when they know it will not be done!!!!!!!!!

kobe faker became kobe liar right before the KC game last year!!!! it is all in the archives!!!!!!

    GO Bucs!!!!!!!!!!

  7. BurgDweller Says:

@ Kobe….They did a Hard Knocks Miami Dolphins. They deal with the same type of summer storms we do, if not worst. Not sure if they have an indoor facility though?

  8. Kobe Faker Says:

Hey burg thanks for that info…..

    Hope we get the show.

  9. Supersam Says:

Please don’t pick us… we don’t need the distractions.

  10. tdtb2015 Says:

    The ReaList needs RedBull!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  11. Dylan Says:

Tampa could end the suspense by just volunteering to do it, which they have not officially done. The article he’s refencing said they’d cooperate but that they had not volunteered.

  12. Pickgrin Says:

Just got HBO added to my TV pkg. Bring it on!

Time for Jameis Winston to become beloved by the whole nation. Maybe this America’s Quarterback thing can finally get some traction…

  13. 813bucboi Says:

“In other words I will give coaches and players a huge pass this year if we do the NFL’s longest commercial!!!!!!”…..

why would you be giving them a pass @realist?….anything less than playoffs this year would be unacceptable….that way of thinking is exactly what people are talking about when it comes to the “losing culture”…..if you think your going to lose before the game is even played, than you’ve already lost, mentally….the only acceptable way for us not to make the playoffs this year is if a significant injury happens to our qb….other than that im expecting playoffs this year…..the combination of dirk and smitty should be enough to stir the team clear of distractions….we have young hungry leaders that want to win now….im not buying the distraction argument…..we cant be afraid of the big stage….

saying you’ll give them a pass this year is a major cop out…..that’s BS….GO BUCS!!!!

  14. Stpetebucsfan Says:

Why is all the talk about the distraction? The other side of that coin is motivation!
The players know that the rest of the league is watching them in practice and on game video. Think they want to impress their peers? It’s like playing on MNF knowing all of your peers are watching.

I hope we get it! First for my fan thirst…I’d LOVE watching the Bucs this up close…and I think it will create an identity for this team for a long time to come.

My favorite Hard Knocks till now was the Atlanta version with Smitty as HC and Koetter as OC. These two men are entertaining for the right reasons. They have a dry, sometimes understated sense of humor and they are straight shooters. It came through even on the video and it seems the players got it as well.

Then of course there are the personalities….#3!!! Miko! GMC! The team’s locker room chemistry has been excellent as well. Let’s show the rest of the nation.

  15. Fred E. Buc Says:

My understanding is if one of the eligibles volunteers…who would say no? One Buc Place is a great place to feature it for sure. The facility itself…the weightroom, dining room, even player lounge is state-of-the-art. I’m usually not for it, but think the recognition would be great…also would generate a lot of local interest from the casual fans and even non-fans.

  16. Q Says:

I will be adding HBO soon

  17. Buccfan37 Says:

No commercials on HBO right? The cable companies once offered free previews on occasion to those with basic cable. That went kaput right after the dinosaurs went extinct.

  18. Erik w/ Clean Athletics 'The Kwon Alexander of Bucs Fans' Says:

Championship mentality doesn’t get effected by the spotlight and we have Championship-caliber leaders on this team.

  19. pick6 Says:

go to cleveland or jacksonville. putting aside the whole notion of distractions…how many teams, players, or coaches are more widely respected or liked because of their sting on hard knocks? seems like most are remembered for some obnoxious incident or whatever one-dimensional quirk they are portrayed as having. a bunch of professionals focused on their work is less compelling TV than people who come off as petty, goofy, or as outright jerks when you capture the right 30 second snippet

the best you can hope for is that people don’t like your team or players any less after probing their every interaction for 5 weeks. at least, that’s the best impression i’ve managed to come away with for a hard knocks team

  20. pick6 Says:

*”stint on hard knocks”, not “sting on hard knocks”

  21. Trubucfan22 Says:

I don’t think many teams “want” to be on hard knocks. So if the bucs are saying they want to do it, it would be foolish of the NFL to force a team that doesn’t want to do it. Maybe multiple teams are wanting to do it, idk. But if the bucs are the only team stepping up to say, let do it. Then it should be a done deal.

  22. CarolinaBucFan Says:

I would bet most players would want it. A lot have incentives for making it to the pro bowl, and if they’re on HBO then I’d bet they’d get more attention from the everyday fan. I’m sure Kwon wants to be a household name and I’m gonna go on a limb and say HBO will get him in the houses

  23. cmurda Says:

I agree 100% with 813. Nothing else need be said.
