Team Glazer, DeSean Jackson & The Famous Dirk Koetter Credo

March 9th, 2017

Loud message from ownership

Joe laughed out loud when other media types insisted the Bucs wouldn’t chase expensive free agents last year, and Joe did the same this winter.

Team Glazer has been throwing around buckets of loot since 2012. What are these guys missing?

Joe is thoroughly confident Team Glazer learned from the debacle of the 2011 offseason. After the Bucs were 10-6 in 2010, with a super-young team and coach, Bucs leadership made the brilliant decision (sarcasm) to only sign a punter in free agency.

Tampa Bay jumped out to a 4-2 record after big “signature” wins against the Saints and Falcons, and then they never won another game in 2011. They didn’t have enough veteran leaders and raw talent to stop the bleeding of a 10-game losing streak and right the ship.

It cost Raheem Morris his job and forced Team Glazer into another rebuild.

Fast-forward to 2017, the Bucs are coming off a 9-7 season with another 23-year-old quarterback ready for his third season, and Team Glazer just ponied up big money to insure Mike Smith remains defensive coordinator for two more seasons.

To not make bold moves in free agency would be foolish and evidence that nothing was learned from 2011. Team Glazer is way too smart for that.

Sure, free agency is the devil, but only if you pick the wrong players. If Jason Licht screws up free agency like he did in 2014 and, arguably, in 2015, then Team Glazer likely reassesses its general manager. But fear is not part of this regime now, nor should it ever be.

Joe believes Team Glazer is following its inspiring head coach, who so profoundly told the Bucs last year to, “Speak softly. And carry a big mother f*%%’n stick!

Keep the cueballs happy. Go Licht

  2. Buc Fan in NC Says:

Would still like another WR. Pryor or draft one in top 3 rnds

  3. mike10 Says:

I agree with a few of those podcasts Joe – I’m seeing a 2 year window where we have to make a strong push before having to make a large financial commitment to several key pieces on our team.

Plug as many holes as you’d like today!

  4. rayjay1122 Says:

I hope we do not neglect the defense during FA/draft so we can build upon what Smith has started. Could we all just imagine a potent offense and a dominant defense in the same season? Going to be interesting to see what pieces to the puzzle are added when it is all said and done.

Joe what are the chances we pick up Dontari Poe?he said he was willing to take a 1yr prove it deal and I haven’t read of him getting signed or interest from anyone.also who else should we expect to be signed to a bucs life today/tomorrow?any other big name players or anyone under the radar we should keep our eye on?

  6. Jeagan1999 Says:

How about adding Mangold (C), Baker (DE) and Micah Hyde (S) now! Round out the day on a really high note!

  7. Mike Johnson Says:

Poppycock there Joe! All I can say to the Glazers is..Prove it. Prove to us you want to be a champion. Prove to Bucnation you want the Bucs to be great. End statement!

  8. Chris Says:

    EXACTLY !!!!!!!

  11. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

Jeagan, great post!!! bucs have a ton of holes that need to be addressed, that shouldn’t create a gilded image of the oevrall team after the pickup of Djax

  12. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

Guess we looking a whole lot more appealing now after the year ME had and Djax making it his business to come on board. He a Nole but I feel like Quan thumbed his nose to us this time last season. So I’m little mixed when it comes to him.

  13. Joseph Mamma Says:

The guy on the left is rocking the legendary Glazer mullet.

  14. RachelWatson'sthong Says:

I thought Maurice Gibb was dead.

  15. shooter Says:

    Now go after Ross…

  16. spicoli Says:

let’s go after Kevin Zeilter now!

    Glass half empty:

The Glazer’s haven’t spent money. Prove it, Glazer’s! Blah, blah, blah.

    Glass half full:

With the exception of a short period in the early 2010’s the Glazer’s have spent freely during the bulk of their ownership, certainly with Licht on board. They will do so this year as well.

  18. Born again Bucs fan Says:

Good god could you imagine Desean Jackson and John Ross?

  19. Defense Rules Says:

Interesting that all the chatter today is about offensive FAs … Desean Jackson & Jason Kelce … now that Calais Campbell & Tony Jefferson appear to be signing elsewhere. Hopefully Bucs stay focused on fixing our 2 biggest defensive deficiencies (DLine & Safety) plus use 2 draft picks for those spots also to get a leg up on the future.

  20. Eric Says:

Sorry I am going to have to have a few playoff years before I forgive the Raheem Morris, Schiano, era.

I do note the different tune.

Apparently 29/30 year old free agents are no longer considered “fools gold” by the Glazer Boys.

    Raheem is probably saying WTF?

  21. tmaxcon Says:

    Maurice Gibb… You killing me

unfortunately we will never see our owners rocking out Jerry Jones style with some hotties living it up… its unfortunate.

  22. tmaxcon Says:

john ross fans please review his medical history… it’s a HUGE gamble with those knees bucs need reliable tough football players. not another gamble or “hope he stays healthy or if he stays healty” can’t win a division with a roster full of “if’s” Give me a slightly slower durable guy with good hands over a combine warrior with bad knees.

  23. SoCalBucFan Says:

After looking at who the bucs talked to this seams there plan.

    FA
    Starting WR
Starting DL at fair price other wise will use draft.

    Draft
Starting RB(can get one up to 5th rd)
Starting DL(can get one 1-2nd rd)
    Rotation DE(3-4rd)
    Development WR(3-7 rd)
    Development S(3-7 rd)
    Development OL(4-7 rd)

  24. The Graham Tram Says:

Go get Kamar Aiken and big body Brandon Williams to plug the inside next to McCoy. Wouldn’t complain about splashing for AJ Buoye either

  25. Defense Rules Says:

SoCalBucFan … I suspect that you’re real close, except that hopefully FAs will include a Safety (someone to start opposite Tandy?) and a OLineman (preferably a Center but a RT would do also).

  26. RustyRhinos Says:

tmaxcon, we totally agree here! Already have bad knee injuries x2 when speed is one of your best asset, is this what we might call gambling with our first round pick? Tough call here by the GM and our scouts and medical evaluations teams.

I hope we get a chance to add Mr. Howard to our Offense.
