“Hard Knocks” And The Bucs

March 24th, 2017

Still a chance?

For a while there, Joe thought it was close to reality.

Joe really thought the Bucs had a good shot at landing on “Hard Knocks,” the NFL Films-produced, training-camp reality series broadcast each summer on HBO.

The bigger-than-life personality of budding star America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, would too desirable for HBO and NFL Films to pass on.

Then came the nontroversy over Jameis and the elementary school and the all-too predictable freakout by those always looking to be offended by something. Just when it appeared national folks may have turned the corner on Jameis, the nontroversy fueled the anti-Jameis fire again. Jameis, sadly, is not seen in a positive light by too many outside the Tampa Bay area,

But did the hand of AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht indirectly put the Bucs back on the front burner for the TV series a week ago?

Jameis is still a major draw. So are other personalities like Robert Ayers and Kwon Alexander and DeSean Jackson and, perhaps Miko, too, and her husband Brent (if she agreed to be part of it).

Well, since the Bucs signed kicker Nick Folk to push aside give Roberto Aguayo competition, that’s drama!

Mix in Jameis’ bigger than life charisma, the other personalities, and a full-blown drama of competition between a high draft choice and a free agent veteran, this all may prove irresistible for HBO.

Joe still thinks HBO may pick the Bears because of their massive following, but my God, what a boring team. Quick: Name a player on the Bears not named “Mike Glennon.” Outside of Bears fans and diehard footballholics who would watch chimpanzees play football in the middle of the summer, who the hell else would watch aside from invalids who cannot work a remote and folks in nursing homes who don’t know what they are watching?

The Bucs are far more compelling than the Bears.

    AHHHHH….AHHHHH…..Jim McMahon

NO….NO…NO…..AHHHhh Mike Singletary. Yeah! He came back to play linebacker….Yeah.

I knew I knew one. lol

  3. MadMax Says:

Agreed! Plus the story of Smith (former HC and Koetter his OC) now here and building a playoff team with Koetter as HC and Smith his DC….I mean come on!!!!!!!!

  4. Erik w/ Clean Athletics 'The Kwon Alexander of Bucs Fans' Says:

I really want us to be on hard knocks!!!

We have the most compelling team/personalities in the NFL!

And it would get us used to being in the national spotlight, which should help us be more comfortable later in the year when we’re in the national spotlight again making our SB run.

  5. Eric Says:

    Ummmmm Mark Sanchez!

That addition alone will spike ratings. Imagine all the butts he’ll be diving on in practice.

  6. DallasBuc Says:

In the interest of winning football games HBO can eat a bag of dcks and go ruin some other teams season.
    Get behind me Satan

  7. Jason Says:

Leonard Floyd last years first round draft pick for Chicago and don’t forget ex kicker Connor Barth.

  8. Bucballbaby84 Says:

Yeah I hope the bucs don’t get picked for it and the bears do. Nothing good comes from being on that show.

  9. R.O. Says:

If you ask Patriots or Steelers fan to name a player on the Bucs they would say the same thing…. Casual Fball fans rarely pay attention to other teams.

  10. Blake_bucsfan Says:

    @R.O.

Not so, Any passionate football fan in the nation knows at least Jameis and Mike Evans. Jameis because he was a National champion, and because he was the victim of a media smear campaign spearheaded by the 4 letter. And they know Mikey because he is one of the top 5 receivers in the Nation, and that 1 handed catch he made against Atl got tons of media play.

  11. TampaBay AllDay Says:

Good article. If we did hardknocks it would be an opportunity to show the doubters who Winston is and then we don’t have to worry about doing hardknocks anymore. Does bring on camera=less wins?

  12. Joe Says:

If you ask Patriots or Steelers fan to name a player on the Bucs they would say the same thing….

    Oh, please!

  13. TampaBay AllDay Says:

    Being*

  14. Eric Denman Says:

Would be the only reason I would pick up the HBO package on DirecTv. That would be a good watch for die hard Buc fans!

  15. MarcBucs88 Says:

Dan Sileo thinks Joe should be careful with primate references.

  16. MadMax Says:

^ im not much of a tv guy outside of news and sports….but yes, that would make me subscribe a few months.

  17. Buc1987 Says:

R.O….I’m for certain they know who Evans and Winston are.

  18. SB Says:

87 you are correct. Up here in Montana everybody knows of Mike Evans Jameis Winston and Gerald McCoy. And I’m the only Bucs Fan in this town

  19. Capt.Tim Says:

Let HBO go torment some other team.
Until we start winning some Playoff games, this team needs FOCUS.
Last thing we want, is some Rookie thinking hes a “SUPERSTAR”,
    Before he knows the Playbook

  20. Dan A Says:

Bears just added Mark Sanchez, aka Butt Fumble!!! We now have zero chance.

  21. SB Says:

Every friend I have a beer that is a football fan sees the Bucs as a young upcoming team that’s going to be dangerous in the future

  22. SB Says:

Lol. That is supposed to say here. Not a beer

  23. MarcBucs88 Says:

People in South Florida know who Jameis, Doug Martin, and Evans are. They also know about McCoy, David (a Miami native), Grimes (ex-dolphin), and VH3 (CFB). Anyone who follows fantasy football knows who Cam Brate is. But I think the one guy that you all are forgetting: Roberto Aguayo. Granted, he is known for downright embarrassing reasons; but the entire football world knows who he is and that he is on the Bucs.

It’ time to give the Bucs a little more credit, RO; its a new day in Tampa Bay…… “AND WE GOING TO GET A WIN TODAY.”

  24. JabooBuc Says:

Can’t believe I’m saying this but I’m with Dallas in this. Hell to the no. Go disrupt some other team with no chance at contending.

    —————————————————————————————–

The combined results of all the teams featured on Hard Knocks has had no effect, positively or negatively. The good teams did well, the bad ones did poorly.

  26. K2 Says:

Hard Knocks will knock our team out of the playoffs…stay away! BIG DISTRACTION!!!

  27. Not there yet Says:

Nope keep overlooking the bucs and when we make the playoffs next year it will be to late to get us again. I’d watch it but at the same time I don’t want any other team having a closer look at our players

  28. D-Rome Says:

The head coach is what makes or breaks the show. Dirk Koetter is far more compelling a head coach than John Fox.

  29. D-Rome Says:

I don’t know why you guys are saying Hard Knocks would be a distraction. I’ve heard players and coaches say that they don’t even notice the cameras for the most part after the first day.

  30. TampaTown Says:

Let the Bears have it. We don’t need it.

  31. Joe Says:

    What dallasbuc said

  33. NFLNut Says:

The SJW crowd and non-football-following general public may not view Jameis highly but I’ve never spoken with a knowledgeable football fan that doesn’t view Jameis highly.

  34. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Normally I’m against being on the show, but this does seem like the perfect year for it, and it would increase game ratings and fanbase.

Really, the NFL should want teams with smaller fanbases on the show so they build them up.

  35. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

For what it’s worth though…if teams filmed things like this solely for season ticket holders, they might sell more season tickets.

  36. bucs_365 Says:

    Hell no.

SB what part of Montana are you in? Im in Bozeman and get compliments on the Evans Jersey. Everyone knows him!

  38. cmurda Says:

    Joe,

Give me a few days to think of a player not named Mike Glennon on the Bears. I feel that I can do it but it’s going to take at least the entirety of the weekend for me.

  39. DallasBuc Says:

Bonzai- what the sht do you care about game ratings and expanding the fan base? Are you part of the ownership group?
Winning is far better for both than some insidious media device that has the potential to turn your critical training camp into a circus sideshow repleat with controversy and unintended consequence.
    No, absolutely not.

  40. unbelievable Says:

Gotta agree w/ DallasBuc on this one. Although I would personally like to see all the behind the scenes stuff with my team, the teams that are featured are always terrible the next season. It’s just a distraction for the team IMO.

  41. CarolinaBucFan Says:

Dallasbuc, in regards to Bonzai, I would love for us to have a bigger fan base. I’m deep in Panther country and every time I go to the sports bar to watch the game, I’m surrounded by those pricks. It’s easily the most obnoxious part of my Sundays. If we had a bigger fan base I wouldn’t be the only Buc fan in town and would be able to cheer on my team with a buddy. It isn’t rocket surgery why us fans want more notoriety

  42. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    DallasBuc Says
“Bonzai- what the sht do you care about game ratings and expanding the fan base? Are you part of the ownership group?”

Well, let’s see…expanding the fan base only happens IF THEY ARE WINNING.

And why would I care? Have you ever noticed how the more popular teams get the breaks from the refs?

What happens when the NFL decides to enforce the blackout rule again, and the Bucs are not selling out games?

Dallas, you are a complete idiot, you know that? You mouth off a lot to cover it up, but it ain’t working.

  43. Drsesq Says:

    No thank you.

  44. Trubucfan22 Says:

HK would do wonders for Jameis and his image. Once people see how driven he is and how much he is loved and respected by his teammate, they will all have a new perspective of winston. For most people, they dont know the real Jameis. They know the bullspit national headlines he was apart of in college. Things could quickly change if they saw how he is outside of the headlines.

  45. Buc1987 Says:

Put me down as a no too.

  46. Jay Collman Says:

FSU was supposed to be a College Playoff contender and they lost three games early. I’m not putting all of the blame on being on Showtime’s Season with Florida State, but itvsure didn’t help!

  47. Joe Says:

    cmurda:

    HaHaHa!

  48. DallasBuc Says:

Bonzai- your whole contention is that HardKnocks would increase game ratings and the fan base. It is me that suggested winning would take care of that instead. Do you even read what you write?
Then, you go on to support your strange desire for game ratings by referencing a perceived officiating bias and a potential return of an obsolete blackout rule…and somehow you think this makes me the “complete idiot”?
The irony runs long and deep with you and I really enjoy seeing it flourish when you jump up on that well trodden soap box of yours. Look forward to reading more of your tired ‘How to be a real fan’ lectures on this fine Saturday morning and watch all of the irony drip out of your cheap wisdom!

  49. Turnaeshis Says:

I hope the bucs don’t get on the show hard knocks because I don’t want to have the curse because look at what the LA rams look like I’ll be fine without the spotlight I just want win and go to the playoffs
