Growing Locker Room Desire For Adrian Peterson

March 30th, 2017

New Bucs defensive tackle Chris Baker

The drumbeat for Adrian Peterson is getting louder and faster.

The latest guy is new Bucs free agent defensive tackle Chris Baker.

On the heels of America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, embracing Peterson and training with him in Houston, and Dirk Koetter talking about Peterson yesterday to Joe, Baker fired off this gem on Twitter to Peterson himself.

Fun stuff there.

Yes, there is massive divide at JoeBucsFan.com world headquarters.

One “Joe” keeps saying 32 year old running backs are rarely effective and the Bucs can do better in next month’s NFL Draft. Bucs Uncensored host Justin Pawlowski, a former host on the Buccaneers Radio Network and a renowned Bucs expert, says sign Peterson now and draft a running back, and trade Charles Sims if you can. The other “Joe” wants Peterson signed now if the Bucs consider him healthy and reasonably priced. They can always cut Peterson if he’s not a fit. It’s only money, and that cash doesn’t belong to Joe.

Until Peterson signs with a team, or until somebody at One Buc Palace says the Bucs have no interest, he’ll be linked to the Bucs until at least the NFL Draft.

And Peterson seems to want that to happen, after training and posing with Jameis, and telling the world he’d be interested in playing for Tampa Bay.

Man,as long as the plan is still to go get that FSU stud I’m wit it..

  2. SCBucsFan Says:

Some decisions are hard, some are easy. This one is easy. Sign him and draft a guy in a later round.

Anyone else having trouble typing comments and you keep getting kicked out of the comment box?

  3. biff barker Says:

Both Peterson and Martin are injury risks, but Peterson will be available to start the season.

    Sign AP, draft a RB.

  4. Not there yet Says:

He doesn’t have a say yet he hasn’t even worn a buc practice jersey

  5. The bucfan 88 Says:

Let me be honest I love cook but if we were to trade Down grab buda baker who Jason said he reminded him of Tyron Matthew sign Peterson go get devonte Forman who I believe is a beast that’s an amazing one two punch

  6. tdtb2015 Says:

    No problem typing here.

Licht is letting the price go down on AP. Licht is also waiting for trade for Martin.

    Light has it right!

    Go Bucs!!!

  7. Wausa Says:

I’m not 100% on board with AP, but if we drafted Dalvin and brought in AP on a 1 year team friendly deal. We will have turned our running back group from arguably the worst in the NFL to the best in the NFL overnight.

  8. SB Says:

No SC Buc, you must be using a word or a name that Joe has in his filters. Believe me there are names that cannot be spoken on these threads.

  9. tdtb2015 Says:

2 year deal at 5.6 is Licht final offer for AP.

Winston, Evans and DJax are convincing AP of the opportunity of a Lombardi will come in the next two years. Come join the club!

    Go Bucs!!!

  10. SCBucsFan Says:

No SB, happens at random times like if the page is reloading. I try to mind my manners.

  11. tdtb2015 Says:

    ^ 2 year deal 5.6 per year

  12. Supersam Says:

Cut Martin trade Simms sign Peterson and draft McCaffrey, Cook or Mack.

  13. Kevinthepainterimagine Says:

Dalvin cook is not a stud….guy had wide open lanes.

  14. Lord Cornelius Says:

I’ll deal with it if we sign him but hate the idea of it.

For one; he was terrible last year before the injury. 1.9 YPC!!!!

Even if you combine those 3 games with the last 8 games he played in 2015; his YPC average was 3.75.. And that includes games where he averaged 5/6 ypc.. He really fell off a cliff in week 16 (10 carries 31 yards) and in the playoffs vs Seattle (23 carries 45 yards). In his last 5 games he has 2.1 YPC.

Second; this is a deep draft of RB and there is no point in developing RBs. Rookie RBs are ready to go day 1 typically. No reason to put a talented guy on the bench behind a 32 year old peterson averaging 2 YPC

Third; we likely lose any potential compensatory pick. I don’t think it’ll be high (Probably 5-7th round) but we should be getting one as of now. We’ve let 4 players go and signed 3 for less money than what the 4 got by at least 2-3 mill. It’s just a late rounder so not a big deal but still

  15. LifeOfABucFan Says:

AP and Quizz? Love it! Then they can use AP to mentor the newly drafted RB McCaf or Mack..hell, I’ll even say Cook , for all you homers..lol..

  16. 941BUC Says:

Hey Joe can you imagine the size of the Bucs Bandwagon if AP comes on board and we draft one of the top 3 RBs or top 4 WRs? Cowboys who?!Tampa Bay will be Americas new team!

  17. Buc813 Says:

Kevin the painter..You obviously didn’t watch FSU this year. The Oline was pretty bad all year. Dalvin constantly made something out of nothing.

  18. uckinator Says:

SCBucsfan – I’m also having an issue with typing when the box shuts off. I then have to click the box again to type. It’s annoying. Sometimes I just quit because I have to keep clicking the box to continue typing. It doesn’t always happen which leads me to believe Joe is having an issue with his server.

  19. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

Like usual you sound stupid kev.

  20. 941BUC Says:

Also if AP gets signed that would be the 1st QB in Jameis to consecutive 4k yards season, the fastest WR in Jackson, arguably the best WR in Evans and the 2015 top RB in AP. I mean,Joe can you explain how opposing defenses would defend that combo?and not to mention our TE that led the league in TDs?

  21. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

Uck you should post more bro. I can tell you be sittin on big time info bro.

  22. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

You went into something about the draft last week, had it been me that came across that info. I would’ve let some off these so called experts have it my G. I see you.

  23. The Buc Realist Says:

I love that the Bucs have options!!! They could sign AP, have Drug Martin come in to split cares as both are now injury prone but could be a strong 1 2, and keep each other injury risk down!!! Draft a TE or Wr in the first and this offense could be elite!!!!!!

The offense could be explosive, have a strong run and play-action game, and pound out the clock!!!!!!

    GO Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!

  24. D-Rome Says:

    I agree with “One Joe”.

  25. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

Those holes were wide open huh??? That’s funny the o line was one of the issues wit my team last season. I’ve said before 6 different o line combination in 2016. Not a stud you say kev??? Well tell me how exactly did he amass 758 yards after contact last season Again. Please enlighten me dude.

  26. Hawaiian Buc Says:

You never know what you are getting with RB’s. The idiot that is me thought Trent Richardson was the next Jim Brown, lol. It’s especially hard when you have RB’s that play in college with great OL’s (Alabama, FSU, Stanford, etc.). It’s hard to say if they are going to be able to cut it when they don’t have 10 yard holes anymore. Besides, there’s no telling if Cook and/or McCaffery will even be there. I feel extremely confident saying Licht isn’t going to trade up to get a RB.

This is why I’m on board with signing AD and drafting a RB. That would give us a crowded backfield, but if last year is any indication, it is almost certain that at least one RB is going to go down. AD is a once in a generation type of player. He may be done, but if he’s not done he could also run for 1500 yards and take us to the Super Bowl. I’m willing to spend a few million of the Glazer’s cash to bet on it. It’s not like if we sign him and it doesn’t work out that we are going to be in salary cap hell or anything. We’ll be just fine either way, but he could potentially take our offense to a level we’ve never seen before. To me, that’s well worth the risk.

  27. illwill83 Says:

Sign him and draft 1 too I’m with it. AP is a genetic freak he has a good solid 2 years left maybe more

  28. Hawaiian Buc Says:

And I know FSU’s line wasn’t great last year, but typically they are. I’m all for Cook if he’s available – whether or not we sign AD.

  29. Hawaiian Buc Says:

I don’t know what bothers me more – when people call Peterson AP or when people spell Ronde – Rhonde. His nickname is AD people!!! It’s “All Day”. It’s really not that hard.

  30. Tom S. Says:

Adrian Peterson is one of the best RB’s ever and after missing almost all of the 2014 season with an ACL tear came back to take the rushing crown in 2015. Last year however, he was complete garbage. He averaged 1.9 yards per carry when he wasn’t injured. Is there any reason to believe Peterson will come back and be anything close to the 2015 version of himself at age 32? I doubt it.

I wouldn’t be opposed to the Bucs signing him to a below market deal around 3 million or so, but I doubt he’d risk himself for such a small amount of what he’s made most of his career.

  31. Sunny Says:

Sign AP as a bridge player for newly drafted player (mixon ,cook,Mack )

  32. Sunny Says:

Plus AP will have a chip on his shoulder this year , wants to prove he still got it , after no one wanted him

  33. DBS Says:

Tampa fans have always wanted BIG NAMES here just to be able to say they were Bucs. Players they wanted drafted here to begin with someway somehow. Remember how much everyone wanted the money thrown at Haynesworth at one time? Well you got him and? This is not a new trend.

  34. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    @DBS,

Fair enough, and normally I would agree with you. But AD is not Haynesworth. He’s been the best RB in the league for a long time. I would compare him more to Vincent Jackson. He has no work ethic concerns. He’s not a bad teammate. He’s probably not going to be AD of old, but even if he can run for 800-1000 yards, he’s miles better than anyone we had last year. I’m just not one for putting everything on a rookie, even if we do get Cook or McCaffery (which I still believe we won’t get either because they won’t be there).

  35. bucs_365 Says:

Sign old guys, bust the cap, go 5-11… That’s the Joes’ plan for building a football team.

  36. Skipper Says:

    Kevinthepainter, watch much college football?

  37. Hawaiian Buc Says:

“Sign old guys, bust the cap, go 5-11”

    ——

Have you taken a look at our cap situation? If you think signing AD is going to be the reason if we go 5-11, then you probably also are one who thinks we can’t win with McCoy and Lavonte on the defense.

  38. DB55 Says:

    Buc 365

Don’t listen to Hawaii. He’s not all there upstairs if you know what I mean.

  39. Mr. Simmons Says:

Sign Peterson and find away to draft mixon in the early second and let him mentor his allum pupil

  40. Eric Says:

Seems to me getting Peterson would mean no running back in first round.

Could use that pick for another need.

I’d prefer trading for Cook, but like Hawaiian I though Richardson would make it big.

Still the thought of Cook making big plays for years vs. squeezing one last year out of Peterson, then having to find another guy, leans me strongly to Dalvin.

  41. Ben Says:

Dont sign him. AP is done. Hall of fame career no doubt but they can do better in the draft at this stage of APs career. Everyone knows they will draft a RB, I cant see them getting rid of either rodgers sims or barber if they sign AP and draft a RB.

  42. Buccfan37 Says:

The Tampa Bay Wrinkleneers, like sun dried raisins.

  43. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Hawaiian Buc Says
“I don’t know what bothers me more – when people call Peterson AP or when people spell Ronde – Rhonde. His nickname is AD people!!! It’s “All Day”. It’s really not that hard. ”

AP are his initials, so both are right. Speaking for myself, I didn’t even know of the ‘All Day’ nickname.

  44. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Don’t trade Sims. With Peterson, you never know when he’ll get injured. Sims is young, keep him a year more to see if he improves.

AP! would be cool, but really, offensive line improvement is what will improve the run game.

  45. Buc4Lyfe79 Says:

    @DB55
#ULikeThat is a slap in the Bucs and their fans faces. #ILikeThat which is what Baker stated in his tweet, isn’t.

  46. MadMax Says:

If we sign AP and decide to keep Doug on a restructured short term deal, I’d just wait and go after RB round 1 or 2 in next years draft. I know, we dont know exactly what to expect out of Doug, and yes AP could get sidelined with an injury. But what if they both work out? Talk about a two headed (or 3 headed with Jacq) monster. My gosh!!!

Then focus on TE, WR and D and O line.

  47. Capt.Tim Says:

AD probably wont sign until after the draft. Draft a young back in the middle rounds.
Then we can keep Peterson fresh, while our young learns the fine art of pass blocking. With Peterson, Sims, and the Rookie- we have depth in case of injury.

  48. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    @Bonzai,

Yes, I know AP is his initials, but no one calls him that. Everyone around the league calls him AD. He was given that nickname in high school. He doesn’t like it when people call him AP, similar to how Doug Martin doesn’t like being called Muscle Hamster.

  49. Earl Lee byrd Says:

This is dumb. People remember AD of the past. He’s Two yrs From being anything. Emitt Smith was the same with cardinals minus a bad knee injury. Ever wonder why the other teams are not banging down his door? Cook is a great pic and I don’t like FSU. The dude was a monster in high school and owned college the day he got there. He’s pure talent and would bring more fans to Tampa being local. He will also be cheaper than AD due to rookie pay scale. Don’t sign AD because of what he did in the past. P.S to Bucs, Draft no kickers

  50. DPewter Says:

AP has played 21 of the possible 19 games in the past three seasons.Admittedly it was due to injury, but still a little less tread worn off the tires.

  51. America's Commenter Says:

Would Adrian Peterson play for the $7M that The PED Hampster is scheduled to earn in 2017? That would be an upgrade and it wouldn’t impact the salary cap at all.
