Bruce Allen: DeSean Jackson & Pierre Garçon Want To Test The Market

March 2nd, 2017

Somewhere, Jameis is smiling.

The president of the Redskins may now be more popular in Tampa than he ever was as a general manager here.

Speaking moments ago on SiriusXM NFL Radio, Bruce Allen made it crystal clear that stud wide receivers Pierre Garçon and DeSean Jackson want to hit the free agency market next week.

In fact, Allen said he’s rooting for them to get monster contracts, though he added that he hopes he’ll get a chance to counteroffer whatever Jackson and Garçon might find on the streets.

Allen was very matter-of-fact and seemed resigned to losing both receivers.

As Kirk Cousins might scream, “You like that?!?”

Joe likes the sound it. Either Jackson or Garçon would look nice in pewter and red.

The Redskins will be fine with wide receiver Jamison Crowder (67 catches, 7 touchdowns), their Pro Bowl tight end and whatever receiver they draft next month.

D-Jax and Garcon would be my top 2 WR targets in FA. Either one of them would be a great fit.

  2. Andrew Says:

Am I the only one not on board for Pierre? In 9 seasons, never more than 6 tds and only had 1000 yards twice. He’d have to come relatively cheap and he’d only be a 3rd receiver if we plan to be competitive.

  3. Pickgrin Says:

I’ll take either. DJax is the sexier prospect because of his speed – but we’d probably be better off with Garcon from a reliability standpoint.

  4. Mojiska Says:

    I lean garcon

  5. Buc4Lyfe79 Says:

AWWWWW SNAP NOW, Grab Garcon and draft your speedster Jason Licht.

  6. SB Says:

I am totally on board with Jackson or Garcon now. If Pryor REALLY doesn’t want out of Cleveland then he is too dumb for me.

  7. 941BUC Says:

I’d rather beef up the Defense!Joe can you tell these people how scary a line up of Gerald McCoy,William Gholston, Mr.Beasting, Noah Spence and Calais Campbell will look?!You Have 2 guys on McCoy,2 on Campbell, that leaves Spence,Mr Beasting and Gholston free to man handle whoever they feel like it.not to mention if you have an all out blitz with Lavonte David and Kwon! Man that would be a scary site for opposing quarterbacks!

  8. 941BUC Says:

I mean sure grab Jackson or garçon but make sure you get Campbell at all cost!I think 2017 will be our year if we get a definite WR2 and draft another and get a RB to get pressure of Fameis.not to mention if we get Campbell to get this DLine in beast mode.not to mention you have Optimus Grimes and VH3 in the no fly zone with Tandy or Conte to help out!man im really looking forward to this 2017 season.I have never seen a well round Tampa roster like this past and upcoming year!

We’ve been talking about the possibility of adding Campbell for like 2 months lol

  11. Mike Evans GOAT Says:

    @941
Have u created a new 5-2-4 defensive scheme for the bucs? Lol all of those guys will not be on the field at the same time unless it’s goal line

  12. Issic Haggins Says:

Kenney Brixxett 3 years 24 mil appx 9 Million Garanteed

  13. bucsfaninchina Says:

They also drafted Doctson in the first last yr

  14. R.O. Says:

Nothing like old shriveled up sloppy seconds…

  15. feelthepewterpower Says:

Garcon is a younger version of Roddy White lol….his ADOT is poor, and he has little to no YAC ability….he’s essentially an Ike Hillard…OK…but you can do much better in the draft or elsewhere. Kenny Britt for the win…

  16. Dewey Selmon Says:

Take care of Evans, sign Campbell, Jefferson, DJax, and draft Budda Baker rd 1, and Zay Jones in rd 2. If Dalvin falls to us, belay my last.

  17. Buc1987 Says:

Off topic : Where the hell are you at TBBF?

  18. Kevinthepainterimagine Says:

I dont mind djax as long as we draft someone for when he gets hurt. I like stills only because of his age. My main wish list wr is josh gordon. As long as he is clean he is the best wr in the league. Better than julio better than odel. Bring gordon to Tampa and we are in the playoffs. With some more oline help of coarse

  19. Kevinthepainterimagine Says:

GARCON IS NOT THE GUY I WANT. ONLY THE BEST CMON!

  20. BuccaneEric75 Says:

    Mike Evans, I’d run a 5-2-4 defense. 5 DEs, 2 Safteys, 4 CBs! lol

  21. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I’m right here 87…..been posting less…..no controversies to speak of…..

I posted earlier today…..like a WR or RB in first round….that doesn’t mean I would be opposed to having Djax or Garcon too.

Pablo is around….but even though he’s legal….he’s afraid of Trump anyway.

I miss the old debates over Freeman & Lovie, & Mariota vs Winston. All we have is Tmaxcon riding GMC’s a$$.

  22. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Speaking for Pablo

“Pablo likes Victor Cruz in FA (suprised)?…..Pablo is disturbed that the Bucs have no brown players….not even one!!! Pablo is considering helping Aaron Hernandez break out of prison…..we need another TE…..one who could murder the competition.”

  23. BuccaneEric75 Says:

TBBF, you’re missing the big Nos-Bos, Blake rivalry. It’s going to be epic in the next 2 months!

  24. Lord Cornelius Says:

    Shelton Gibson – WVU

That’s my favorite mid to late round WR pick right now. Watch his highlights.

  25. SB Says:

As we start to watch the workouts tomorrow be careful Bucs fans to watch them with an Open Mind. Tebow ran better shuttle and cone drills than 95% of all DBs. Just saying that a Combine warrior isn’t Always the answer. The Drive has to match the Skillset.

  26. SB Says:

I just checked him out Lord C.
    Dude looks For Reeaal

  27. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Says:

DeSean Jackson on the field with Mike Evans makes us a truly scary team.

  28. Spacebuc Says:

    Uh, Senor Pablo,
    See one Aguayo, Roberto K…..

  29. LUVMYBUCS Says:

If it was up to me – I would call Baltimore about compensation for WR Mike Wallace. He carries an $8M option for 2017, including a $1M roster bonus due March 13th. Baltimore has very limited cap space – with key prospects
hitting free agency – * Brandon Williams DT, Ricky Wagner OT, HB Kyle Juszczyk

This would represent a win for both parties. Baltimore will get much needed cap relief + draft compensation (5th Rd Pk?). Tampa would get a much needed deep threat – with a reasonable cap number ($8M 2017) – going into a contract year (FA 2018).

As opposed to signing DeSean Jackson to a $12M – $15M (annual) three year contract. Adapt to practice habits or lack thereof, and serious concerns about his bump shoulder. That’s limited his production in playing over the past 2 seasons.

Both players come with their share of baggage.
Yet both have very comparable numbers
But the caveat is – one comes with a lower price

    Speaking for Pablo

“Pablo has disowned Roberto until he starts making more kicks…..he is an embarrassment to Brown Nation. Pablo is hard on his fellow browns…..”

  31. Destinjohnny Says:

Could have had Jarvis Laundry but took asj.
Now we have to spend major coin for a number 2

  32. Canadianbucsfan Says:

That is a very intriguing scenario. I really like the idea of that, very well thought up!

  34. Joeypoppems Says:

I would rather see what the Saints want for Cooks instead of Mike Wallace

  35. Hail2dabucs Says:

Someone needs to ride gmc’s arse. He has a quick first step but is always called for offsides. He always seems to find a way to get lost in the shuffle every game and the only time I can remember a game sealing play by him was just last year in week frighten 1.that years draft I was hoping for a boy named after a girl and ended up getting one that plays like one. The best grip I Eva seen him get on someone was the commissioner when his leader of the losing culture bottom was drafted.

  36. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    Joeypoppems

Would make perfect sense – but do U honestly believe New Orleans – would trade Cooks to a Divison Rival??

  37. Joeypoppems Says:

No but it’s fun to speculate lol

  38. LifeOfABucFan Says:

“murder the competition”..OMGOMFG!!!!!!!!!!!!! can’t stop laughing..

Pablo is getting me excited about the breakout for Aaron..lol..

  39. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    Joeypoppems

    Lol – No doubt

This the way I look at it.
The money U would pay DeSean Jackson – $12M-$15M (3yrs)
U could acquire Mike Wallace $8M (2017) + Sign an additional FA Wr.

    Trade for/Sign
    • (30) Mike Wallace – $8M
    • (26) Marquise Goodwin – $5M

Honorable Mention: Cordarrelle Patterson, Justin Hunter, Markus Wheaton, Jeremy Kerley

    Draft (either)
    ==> Zay Jones – 3rd Round
    • JuJu Smith-Schuster – 3rd Round
    • Amara Darboh – 3rd Round
    • Chris Godwin – 4th Round
    • Kenny Golladay – 5th or 6th

    Projection
    • Mike Evans | Russell Shepard
    • Mike Wallace | Zay Jones
    • Marquise Goodwin | Adam Humphries

  41. Rod Munch Says:

I’d rather have Pierre Garçon, he’s a solid #2, should be much cheaper, and most importantly I think he’ll actually be healthy and play 16 game. I fully expect Jackson to play like 8-10 games and miss tons of practices and we’ll hear the “not on the same page” comment over and over again should the Bucs get him – because he’s not practicing. Now if the Bucs sign Jackson I hope I’m wrong on every point – but we shall see. Personally I don’t think Dexter is coming here, he wants #1 money and we already have a number one – I think a solid #2 like Garcon is a better play, then try to sign someone like Kenny Stills as a younger guy with a lot of speed and upside – then you could put Humphries into the #4 WR slot where he can be a bubble screen guy, a quick slant guy and get those 1-on-1 battles with #4 corners where I think he could be quite effective.

  42. CreamsicleBananaHammock Says:

    Jets just released Brandon Marshall

He’s pretty much the only WR on the market (currently or in FA) that I’d like to see the Bucs sign

I don’t like any of these guys though really. For the most part you’ve got a bunch of 30 catch a year guys that are going to be looking for $7M a yr contracts.

    Hard pass

  43. Blake_Bucsfan Says:

    @luvmybucs

Not trying to hate or anything, but that type of logic is part of what lead Lousy Loser Lovie Smith to oust Darelle Revis and split his Salary up to get Ghost Johnson and Ateraun Verner.

Sorry but Mike Wallace is a has been. Desean Jackson is a far superior and more consistent Wide-out than Wallace.

  44. FuNkYxMuNkEy Says:

Hearing Alshon talk it sounds like he was talking directly about Tampa. With his injury history I hope not. Brandon Marshall on the cheap would be ok

  45. cmurda Says:

    D Jax… Without question.

  46. Joeypoppems Says:

Idk if D-Jax is gonna get $12 – $15 million a year. If that is what he wants then I might look at Garcon and Britt instead and draft speed.
