Adrian Peterson Is On The Market

February 28th, 2017

Bucs next?

Let Joe be very, very clear.

The next step for the Bucs should happen fast and should be a no-brainer.

The Vikings have announced Adrian Peterson will be released from his expensive contract, so the bosses at One Buc Palace absolutely should bring in Peterson for a detailed analysis of his body and mind.

Joe didn’t write, “Sign him!” but there is no reason not to do every last bit of homework on the legendary running back who was hurt nearly all of last year.

The man is a once-a-generation performer, a future Hall of Famer one year removed from leading the NFL in rushing. And the Bucs should be figuring out what he has left, what he wants, and how he might fit as a “bridge” free agent, a win-now piece.

Step 1 is diving in full throttle immediately. It doesn’t hurt to study the man intensely.

Sure, Peterson turns 32 soon and might be barely above average at this point in his career. But Joe would like the Bucs to be sure. Tampa Bay has a mountain of money available and will be gifted even more when Doug Martin’s contract is officially broken because he officially broke it by using banned drugs.

Get in the game, Bucs.

Fish with a pole, don’t dive in with a knife.

  2. Bucsfan951 Says:

I’m for dipping the buccaneers toe in the water to test it. What does it hurt?

  3. Jeagan1999 Says:

AP has been a special back in the NFL! Is he still? If so, Licht/Koetter need to bring him in for a chat ASAP!

  4. 941BUC Says:

They better get on the phone with his agent and schedule a meeting with him for march 9th at 4:00pm.I don’t care if he has 2-3yrs left in the tank.that should be plenty of time to find and groom a rb to replace him.the only things missing on offense is depth at online which can get found in free agency and the draft,a wide receiver to compliment ME and a rb to make Tampa bay a contender. Can you imagine if we get UP and make to to superbowl 52 at Minneapolis?!

  5. Charles Says:

Yes, let’s get into a bidding war with a back who is 32 and has like 70 carries in the last 3 year, with a whose who on injuries throughout his career.

AP is a hall of gamer and one of the best in his prime, but how much does he have left.

It’s funny how joe criticizes Martin who is younger and a top 5 runner when he is on his stuff, but wants a guy with just as many issues.

  6. Mitch Says:

Drive the market up on AP get a competitor to over pay.

  7. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

To be honest if he’s willing to re-structure I wouldn’t be opposed. Who better to ease Dalvin inn than AP. If it works for Licht it works for me. H3ll we picked up Grimes and Robinson last year and then still drafted VH3( who in two season will be stellar ) so why not kick the tires.

  8. Bucsfan951 Says:

Charles: maybe you missed this paragraph… Joe didn’t write, “Sign him!” but there is no reason not to do every last bit of homework on the legendary running back who was hurt nearly all of last year.

  9. bucs_365 Says:

Don’t bother. He’s done. Move on.

  10. Blake_Bucsfan Says:

Curtis martin earned a league rushing title at 31. That is all.

  11. Joeypoppems Says:

They should do all the research they can on him. It would be a mistake not to.

    @Nosbos

The difference between Grimes/VH3 and a potential Peterson/Cook is that teams play 2 CBs all the time. 2 RBs barely ever play on the field at the same time together. If they do have interest and actually sign AP I would guess we would be out of the Dalvin Cook market.

  12. Hawaiian Buc Says:

He led the NFL in rushing 2 years ago. He was hurt all of last year and played behind an absolutely dreadful offensive line. The guy tore 3 ligaments in his knee, and came back less than a year later!!! He’s an absolute freak, and we absolutely should at least seriously look into signing him.

  13. Charles Says:

    Bucsfan951

You’re right, he said study him.

    1) he has been suspended
    3) he has lost 3 years to injuries if I’m correct and was injury proned coming out of college
    4) he was run into he ground by past coaches who had no one else to go to
    5) he has had 4 seasons of 7 or more fumbles.
    6) he will be going against the front 7 of Atlanta and Carolina 2 times a year
    7) he is 32, it would be better to trade up to get cook who will give you at least 5 years if he is the pro he should be.

AP again is a great back, he won’t be running in the comfort of Minnesota, he’ll be dealing with the grind of Florida Heat. If you won’t to try to make amends for the Gaines Adams situation…. sure.

But there is a good young core here that needs a back that will grow with them. You all complain about Martin and his injuries, the 4 game suspension, and his in consistent nature.

Replace that with a back 4 years older with the same issues minus the conistence issues, isn’t a rational move. It’s a win now move for a team that’s still 2 drafts away from being an every play contender.

  14. USFBUC Says:

I agree we should be looking into his physical state and inquiring what he wants and for how long. It can’t hurt.

  15. bucs_365 Says:

    D.O.N.E.

  16. Trevor Says:

Silly Joe! It’s a sure bet the Bucs have already done more research into AP than anyone else. If it was a performance based contract, then sure maybe he has a little left in the tank, but overall, this guy is done. I’m not buying a used Bentley with 100k+ miles on it because it was once a great car.

  17. pick6 Says:

major injuries 2 of last 3 years

strongly prefers running out of the shotgun

    can’t\won’t pass protect

    not a passing game threat

had his biggest success with lousy QBs that coaches would rather not see drop back (ergo lack of pass protection = no big deal)

not a fit for this team at this time IMO. maybe bring him in for a visit to help his agent get leverage, in exchange for a longer look with a FA that would actually improve the team

  18. macabee Says:

If Peterson is healthy and he wants to play in Florida for 10mil (I wouldn’t pay more), cut Doug Martin and Evan Smith or George Johnson, he’s paid for. No impact on the cap.

Not the first thing I would do, but it’s doable if they want to!

  19. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Only 4 complete seasons in 10 years…NO, I think I’ll pass regardless of how he ‘checks out’.

  20. iamabuc Says:

Bucs should not do it. Injury prone, hurt last year, looking for a huge contract, will come to Tampa to do nothing, get hurt again, patrol the sidelines, and…..enjoy his money, while we struggle because of him missing games. Not to mention, tying our salary cap for next couple of years. IDK.

  21. Tom S. Says:

I severely doubt there’s much left in the tank.

Joe really likes old vets (Roddy White, Nick Mangold, AP). Problem is that these gamers are no longer worth the price they once commanded. Only so many pro’s and HOFers want to do the same job at half the salary they received a year before. I don’t foresee AP taking a deal anywhere near one a 32-year old back with several big injuries usually commands. So either a team ponies up for a big contract on a horse with a bum leg or he sits on the market.

  22. Lord Cornelius Says:

All you need is to put on his 2016 game tape. Please god no.

If we sign Peterson then Light is going into my doghouse for a bit and I’ll probably stop defending him as much as I have in the past

  23. Joeypoppems Says:

Adrian Peterson prefers running out of the shotgun? That’s news to me lol

  24. Joe Says:

If they do have interest and actually sign AP I would guess we would be out of the Dalvin Cook market.

Doubt that very much. AP is 32 and breaking down. Bucs will still draft a RB.

  25. Bucsfanman Says:

This is not the same AP from 3 years ago. Otherwise I’d say go get ’em. This is akin to the Stephen Jackson experiment in Atlanta.

  26. Buc1987 Says:

    Once again.

    Oh never mind!

  27. Joeypoppems Says:

    @admin

Yes they will draft a RB still. How often do teams use a 1st round pick to develop someone that isn’t a QB? It will be in the middle rounds.

  28. BusteisWinston Says:

Unless the Bucs need to up their quotient of child abusers on the roster, pass.

  29. gotbbucs Says:

    No

  30. Blake_Bucsfan Says:

I thought u were long gone over to joetitansfan.com there Busteis?

  31. Brian Says:

“Peterson turns 32 soon and might be barely above average at this point in his career”.

Why so high on a guy you think is the above?

  32. BusteisWinston Says:

Mariota being better and smarter than Busteis doesn’t make one a Titans fan; rather, it makes one a fan of reality.

  33. Jeagan1999 Says:

    Jamaal Charles being released! Wow.

  34. Joeypoppems Says:

For the record I would take AP over Jamaal Charles. I have more faith AP can bounce back from his injury than Charles can from his.

  35. Jeagan1999 Says:

Guess it’s not all that surprising considering his recent injuries.

  36. Blake_Bucsfan Says:

Lol. So Jameis outperforming Mariota in every statistical category in a better division, but Mariota is better?

Some people are so incapable of admitting they are wrong. Come back and try to make that argument when your boy can actually play a full season. Heck, make that argument when he can beat the Jags twice in a season. Or when he actually has to carry the load instead of handing off to Demarco and Derrick nonstop.

    Smh but alsp rofling.

  37. Tom Edrington Says:

As Joe keeps telling us, this is a passing league and this guy doesn’t have great hands, doesn’t catch out of the backfield as good as needed all I can say is: JOE(S) WTF???????

  38. BusteisWinston Says:

Busteis is winless against Case Keenum. Enough said.

  39. Lord Cornelius Says:

    Jamaal Charles just got cut.

If there is an older RB worth considering it’s him imo. Probably WAY cheaper and he’s more accomplished as he’s quietly been one of the best RBs of all time. Seriously – all time.

5.5 YPC career average. That’s freaking insane. One of only 3 players to have 5 1,000 yard seasons averaging over 5 YPC; the other 2 being Jim Brown and Barry Sanders.

He was still averaging 5 YPC when healthy in 2015 (only 5 games though). He’s now further removed from the injury. I duno if he’s done or not though – but I’d feel MUCH better about taking a chance on Charles than Peterson.

Sign Charles and draft a power back in the mid rounds and our RB room becomes pretty interesting.

  40. 813bucboi Says:

sign AP….draft donte foreman and let him learn from AP….or sign Jamaal Charles and let foreman learn from him….either way, win win…..GO BUCS!!!!

  41. Frankie Robertson Says:

No get Jamaal Charles! He can catch out the backfield & is better in blitz pick up

  42. Lord Cornelius Says:

    “BusteisWinston Says:
    February 28th, 2017 at 2:41 pm
Busteis is winless against Case Keenum. Enough said.”

lol @ this clown and his ridiculously dumb arguments. Get the F*ck off our forum loser

  43. act12greg Says:

Jamaal Charles is available for backup money, I’d rather have him

  44. Blake_Bucsfan Says:

He’s also 3-1 against Matt Ryan. Whats your point?

  45. DallasBuc Says:

AP in our backfield would force every defense to respect our ability to run the football. Worth the cost because no one respects it now or all of last year.

  46. SB Says:

Breaking News: Adrian Peterson was just seen boarding a plane to NYC

  47. feelthepewterpower Says:

He can’t block and isn’t a dynamic receiving threat…if you’re going to invest in a running back, you might as well move up to get Cook.

  48. Tom Edrington Says:

I think the kid from USF, Marlon Mack, would get the job done in the Bucs backfield!!!! Draft him and you don’t have to spend a first round pick!!!

  49. mike Says:

I really don’t want to pay too much for Emitt Smith’s 2 years in Arizona

  50. Nybucsfan Says:

    Jamaal Charles

  51. Eric Says:

Superstar running backs almost never lead a team to a championship. When has New England ever had one?

    Passing league.

  52. unbelievable Says:

I’m with LC on this one. I’d rather go after Jamal Charles.

  53. Biggun Says:

I say we take all in on C Campbell D Poe and Peterson tri-fecta

  54. tdtb2015 Says:

The Glazers will probably give Licht a green light to a one or two year prove it kind of contract. This will aid in filling the stands.

  55. DallasBuc Says:

Eric- teams led by superstar QBs and HCs that are arguably the greatest ever kind of become outliers and should not be part of an argument for not acquiring superstar talent.

  56. ARGH_M8E Says:

Sign The two guys that have been injured Adrian Peterson and Jamaal Charles and draft a RB. BOOOM!!!!!!!! Set

  57. Kevin Says:

Restructure Martin and Sign A.P. Let A.P come down and play for a year or two and let Martin earn his spot back. Win Win two special backs when healthy. Neither are going to require a top back contract with they re recent injuries and suspensions but can both help each other redeem themselves behind one of the most enthusiastic young quarterbacks and creative play callers in the league.

Only for a fair price though… don’t overpay someone his age

  58. Kevin Says:

This is where we will see if guys want to actually come here to play with James or come here for the large contract. Be smart Licht

  59. Buddy Says:

Even tho I think he prob will be released Doug Martin was at One Buc last week & technically still on the team. Not sure what they will do with him but his locker is still in tact with personal belongings. Maybe his release is coming but I think drafting Cook would be the best move. They should move up & get him.

  60. ARGH_M8E Says:

I just got of surgery… I’m loooooped up, HA!!!!!! We need a back or 2 for sure though

  61. ARGH_M8E Says:

    Out^

  62. Love and Warrick Dunn Says:

Can someone photoshop a fork into that photo?

    He done.

  63. CalBucsFan Says:

He’s a has-been, am happy to toast him on his past success, but who wants a has-been on the roster when the Bucs focus should be building for the next 10 year.

I would rather see Licht make a heavily weighted performance-based offer to Jamal Charles now that the Chiefs are letting him go, then draft a running back in a later round. Though Charles may be a has-been too due to injuries the last few years, but also two years younger than Peterson, If he’s healthy that guy is better than Peterson.

  64. pick6 Says:

excellent analogy bucsfanman. Stephen Jackson was an exciting and effective runner in his day, and falcons coaches and fans were probably saying “if we just get 70% of the guy we saw in St Louis, he’s the missing piece on this offense. Turned out they got something closer to 25% of the guy they saw in St Louis

  65. Dewey Selmon Says:

Doug martin is 1 year removed from being the 2nd leading rusher in the league. But I get your point Joe. We would have to cut Martin, I would not sign AP to anything over 2 years, and I would still draft a rb in rd 2 just in case.

  66. Duke Says:

    @Blake

You said “every” statistical category” which is not true. Deep ball accuracy is but one. More to the point, if it’s not all it’s
damn close, when total QB rating and rankings Mariota is ranked ahead of winston. Depending on the source Mariota is rated from just above to significantly above Winston. This range from the numerous sources that analyzes the data cover all the variables such as division, strength of schedule, etc.
I haven’t found one yet where Winston is ranked higher.

So no matter how you shake it, your comments about making a credible argument is misplaced and better describes you and the unsubstantiated accusations that you’re making.

Last, since such a previous and predictable pattern has been established in this instance. Let me state unequivocally that I am not nor ever been a mariota fan. If the Bucs had picked him, I would have canceled my season tixs, and feigned interested in perhaps the Dolphins. I wanted Winston here, still do, I have zero doubts that at the end of their careers winston
Will be a far more accomplished pro. So what I just did is took from you your last line of defense against the truth. Why? Because you could have made a credible argument for Winston instead of looking retarded and dismissive of a different opinion.

  67. SrqBucs Says:

I saw grab him 2-3 year contract. Draft a RB in rounds 1 or 2 and groom him behind one of the best RB’s to touch a field

  68. BusteisWinston Says:

Lord Corneilius seems to hate free speech. Hillary voter no doubt.

  69. gotbbucs Says:

Bucs fans…..forever wanting to pay out the nose for past performance. Bucs fans are like crows, they see something shiny and can’t help but pick it up.

Adrian Peterson, he used to be good, and then continually got injured, must have him now.
Jamal Charles, he used to be fast, and then he continually got injured, must have him now.

Why the hell do you think these teams are shedding themselves of these guys? Money partly, but mostly they are used up damaged goods. When you buy bananas do you reach for the badly bruised up bunch or do you look for the ripe unbeaten ones?

  70. Love and Warrick Dunn Says:

    “BusteisWinston Says: ”

I just wanted you to know how gratifying it is to know the pick still bothers you. He will be for many, many, many years to come. Here’s to it bothering with every future day.

  71. Mike Evans GOAT Says:

    Am I in moderation?

  72. Mike Evans GOAT Says:

Why do my comments keep getting deleted Joe? It doesn’t even show as ” in moderation” it just doesn’t show up at all.

  73. Mike Evans GOAT Says:

Any1 else having a problem with the bleacher report app?

  74. Alex Says:

Did Macabee say he wouldn’t pay more than $10M? Was that supposed to be $1M? $10M would have him making $2M more than any other RB in the league. $1M tops, AP was great but he is serviceable at this point.

  75. Mort Says:

He isn’t being released. His contract is expiring with everyone else who doesn’t have an additional year on their contracts. The Vikings have an option to renew his contract and they are electing to not exercise the option. He is not being released in any fashion.

  76. Buddy Says:

Why is my comment in moderation Joe- did what I say Doig martin was at One Buc last week set you off? Wow

  77. Blake_Bucsfan Says:

Lol duke, thats rich, i was talking more along the lines of Passing yards, passing touchdowns, and games won.

Also pretty sure it was Jameis and not Mariota that was top 10 in Qbr after our winning streak.

  78. DBS Says:

Don’t need another broken down vet to cash in and vacation in Tampa. Pass.

  79. Pickgrin Says:

Even at 31, AP is worth a good hard look. Dude is the definition of a generational talent and has shown amazing will and recouperative powers in the near past. I would not be a bit surprised to see AP have at least one more very good if not amazing season left in him – maybe a couple.

Does he WANT to be here? That’s the big question. Did he previously mention the Bucs when asked because he knows we have lots of $ to spend – or does he see we have something special brewing down here – want to be a part of it and is he willing to play here for a reasonable salary? That’s the real question.

Licht is not going to guarantee AP $12-$13M like his agent probably wants – but if Peterson really DOES want to come down here – play with Jameis and have a legit shot at a ring in the next couple of years – how about giving him (Doug Martin’s) $7M as a guarantee. Add $3-4M in incentives on top of that for hitting 1250 yards or whatever and perhaps both sides could be satisfied with a deal like that.

Then Doug Martin would be competing with Adrian Peterson in TC and preseason for his own $7M salary – LOL

And if both are healthy come next year – talk about a great 1-2 punch at RB…
(After Martin’s suspension, inevitable release and possible resigning for $2M of course)

Joe is spot on. Bring AP in – kick the tires. Let Jameis show him around our world class training facility. Work him out and let the team DRs test and poke and prod. See where his head is at and find out if a legit chance to win a Championship is more important to him than one last big $ grab which is what his agent surely wants.

  80. StPeteBucsfan Says:

Guys…google is your friend!!! Injury prone? Really? AP has missed one fewer years in ten seasons than Doug Martin has missed in five!!! And one of AP’s lost seasons was due to suspension NOT injury!!!

Frank Gore was two years older than AP will be this season when he rushed for over 1,000 for Indy..and Gore is a punishing runner not a finesse guy.

As for the suspension…it was how he was raised. I have several friends who were beaten with belts..some were told to go out back and pick a “switch” and if it wasn’t large enough their “father’ picked a bigger one. This is not to defend child abuse and hitting kids with belts and switches IS child abuse!!! Having said that I believe AP has had enough counseling to have corrected behavior he was TAUGHT as a child.

And so I agree with Joe. It would be stoooopid to not bring him in and check him out! The money has to be right….his physical condition has to be right.

Oh btw the last time AP came back from a devastating injury….torn ACL and MCL…he rushed for OVER 2,000 freaking yards!

His legs will be as fresh as a 32 year old’s legs can be…he has POTENTIAL…it’s up to the Buc’s brass to determine how much is left in the tank and what price they can get.

As far as then drafting Dalvin it would still make sense. Many NFL teams have two talented RB’s sharing a load and this would enable us to spot AP as well as Dalvin. As people keep mentioning AP is not a pass catcher so Dalvin would get all the 3rd down plays. It would keep BOTH of them fresher and hopefully healthier. It doesn’t cost anything but a plane ticket on the Glazer family jet to check him out!!!

Can we stop with Doug Martin already. Dude missed more seasons in five years than AP in ten seasons!!! Martin is a mediocre back who had two good years behind solid Oline performance. He was constantly caught from behind. Doug Martin turned out to be a question not the answer. AP has FIVE TIMES the number of TD’s as Martin and only played twice as many seasons. He also has long runs every year he’s played…something Martin is not good at.

For everybody yammering about enough talented RB’s in the draft to wait until later rounds…if you’re talking about backs talented as Doug Martin I agree!!!

  81. tmaxcon Says:

    StPete

Great post…. I’m so sick of these idiots bringing up keeping Martin. He was never consistent, never scored and was slow not to mention he screwed Jameis and the rest of his teammates. Martin is barely a backup…

  82. Red86 Says:

AP or Jamal Charles. Possibly keep Doug Martin on a cheaper contract for depth. Or just let him walk if he won’t sign a cheaper contract to stay.

  83. Buc1987 Says:

    What about Doug Martin though?

  84. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Says:

I just love this time of the year, the combine, and wild speculation.
It is amusing how everyone forgets we have the muscle hamster, who was second in the NFL, when it was contract time.
Now that he lost his guaranteed money, he is gonna be hungry as hell again.
Do not be surprised to see us retain his services, at a bargain basement price, and see him run all over the NFL again next year.

  85. DallasBuc Says:

What the hell is the point of bringing anyone in “for a detailed analysis of his body and mind” with Jason Licht conducting the evaluation? His track record as a participant in this area is abysmal at best. See IR Sneezy…
If we can pay that guy a fortune to never once practice I am perfectly comfortable with signing Peterson, Desean Jackson or anyone else that’s actually proven they are good football players and more importantly do not require any actual evaluation by Jason Licht.

  86. unbelievable Says:

    That’s a good point Chris.

I said something similar a few months back. We’ve seen what Doug can do when he’s hungry to prove himeself, AKA money on the line…

So bring him back on a prove it deal, he’ll have a monster season, and then let some other team sign him for big money.

    I

  87. unbelievable Says:

I don’t mind kicking the tires on AP, but certainly wouldn’t want to put all our eggs in that basket, or overpay a 32 year old running back. Don’t care what numbers or injuries he’s had in the past. 32 is 32.

  88. Zwak Says:

Last 9 games 3 yards per carry? Not worth the risk..

  89. 941BUC Says:

JOE ITS OFFICIAL!KIRK COUSIN HAS BEEN FRANCHISE TAGGED! GETTING JACKSON JUST SEEMS MORE LIKELY!

  90. Joeypoppems Says:

For everyone saying Sign AP and still draft Dalvin Cook. You are talking about using a 1st round pick on what would be a change of pace back for a couple years. I can’t think of a more idiotic way to waste a 1st round pick.

  91. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Says:

A hungry Doug Martin is a scary thing, for the rest of the NFL.
Cook ain’t happening, unless we mortgage our future, and move up.
Peterson is old, and expensive, as well as injury prone.
Jamaal Charles is interesting, but we all need to be aware that this draft is deep in running backs.
As I said before, I love this time of the year, all the speculations and different ideas.
Then, there is the Combine, the ultimate meat market

  92. Buc1987 Says:

    Dallas…shyte happens.

The Patriots’ signature signing of 2012, defensive tackle Jonathan Fanene, never played a regular-season down for them and the sides ended up in a grievance over Fanene’s failure to disclose medical information at his physical.

  93. tmaxcon Says:

Doug Martin has never scared anyone he’s a garbage yard back that does not score and is unreliable he had like 9 good games in 5 years. Raise your standards

  94. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

Pop its no less idiotic than when for example the Packers made Rodgers sit awhile before placing him in the starting line up. Did it hurt Rodgers h3ll no.

  95. Buccaneer scotty Says:

Pass on AP and 4get cook please stop the insanity!

  96. Nole on Sat- Bucc on Sun Says:

And let me ask which one do you feel is the change of pace guy. Tevin Coleman or Devonta Freeman??? I care less how talented Dalvin is my belief is the Atlanta model is what Koetter envisions. So for all you draft one in the later rounds folks I believe we’ll do just that. In concert with Dalvin no less.

  97. Buccaneer scotty Says:

Let’s go after Dont’ a Hightower! That’s a play maker!

  98. Jerry Says:

I live in the twin cities and here are the reasons he has been cut, Peterson is a 2 down back he cant pass protect and he is not good at catching balls out of the back field. There is not much of any thing left in the tank he is old and broken. If you watch him run there is not much you do with him in terms of a play book, Peterson got by on his talent in other words he is not very smart. Most Viking fans are happy to see him leave, the last couple of years he has been a cry baby and really not a team guy. He likes the party life style and has kids with several different women. Tampa is building something special and the need to draft there own and be patient.

So by following the Atlanta model, we draft a running back in the 4th round this year, and one in the 3rd next year.

Great Idea Nos! There is always great value for Rb’s in the later rounds.

‘If they do have interest and actually sign AP I would guess we would be out of the Dalvin Cook market.’

“Doubt that very much. AP is 32 and breaking down. Bucs will still draft a RB.”

OR…they could be thinking he would make a good mentor to Martin, who actually almost beat him two years ago.

  101. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

In my book, Mariota is better until Jameis can prove he doesn’t have the guy in his head and beats him. Mariota has two huge wins over him. I would hate to see us lose in the playoffs to him.

Over all, I do believe Winston is better. But Mariota is still in his head…and is still a good QB.

  102. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Jamaal Charles??? Come on, people. Neither one of these guys is worth signing!

    @Nosbos

A lot of QBs have been drafted early to be developed behind aging vets like Rodgers and Favre.

First, what teams actually groom RBs? I’ve never heard of that before.

Second, if you aren’t drafting your future starting QB who you know before hand will be sitting behind somebody, you usually want your 1st round pick to have an impact right? If AP gets signed you better believe he is gonna be the lead guy so how much of an impact could Dalvin Cook have playing on mainly 3rd downs? Not as big of an impact as any other position pretty much.

    BuccaneerBonzai,

I’m just having a little fun with you here. I know what you mean re Winston and Mariota. But under the current NFL alignment, could Winston ever lose to him in the playoffs? Now he could lose to him in the Super Bowl. Just think about it for a minute and I’m sure you’ll get a laugh too. lol.

My vote is pass on Peterson.

Where is LUV by the way! Get out here LUV! We miss ya!

  108. SB Says:

I can’t really explain to you how much I am on board with what Buccfan37 just said.

  109. Rod Munch Says:

The Bucs could really frontload a contract and have almost nothing to lose as it wouldn’t impact the upcoming players that will need new contracts. In fact it’s one of the safer deals I think they could make if he still has something left in the tank. Talking to Vikings fans earlier this year and they seemed to think he still had a lot left in the tank, and lets remember when Doug Martin was #2 in the league in rushing in 2015, it was behind AD. If the tape and medical looks good I’d sign him – I don’t see how it could possibly impact their salary cap as they’re not spending $70-mil this offseason (and that’s before Martin’s $7-mil). I’m not sure what it would take to get done but AD already put Tampa on his list of teams he’d want to go to, so that call should be being made.

My only real fear is that Martin will be truly motivated next year and will be a monster – and if we cut him and say he signs with the Panthers, the Bucs will regret it mightily, then if AD isn’t him old self, well Licht will have yet another huge FA blunder on his hands.

BUT, I think I take the chance if his tape looks good. Also, personally, I keep Martin around unless that cap space is needed. Yeah for fantasy football players that would suck, but for real life NFL, if we had AD and Martin – well if AD is him old self it saves him a bit and hopefully keeps him healthy – and if not, well, we have a guy who I think is dying to prove himself and when the Muscle Hamster is motivated, he’s one of the very best in the business.

Dalvin in the first round and Mixon in the 6th round. Oh, oh, oh crap. We would be a nightmare for defenses.

I like him he was 1 of the best, but we need to go for a young back that’s in Cook. Cook is a back that you can’t pass up.

  114. PRBucFan Says:

I don’t see how AP is a fit, he runs behind the I, behind a fullback.

Can he adjust to our offense? Cause we sure as hell aren’t changing ours for him.

I consider the Superbowl the last game of the playoffs. That’s how it is listed on NFL.com I believe. 😉
