Brent Grimes is impressed

Brent Grimes is a focused dude. Nothing fancy. Just elite athleticism and a precision work ethic and intensity.

That’s how he’s survived as a 33 year old cornerback still at the top of his game.

Grimes snagged his third pick against the Saints today and is having another standout year.

Joe sought out Grimes after the game to see if he had answers to the Bucs’ stunning emergence as an elite defense.

Joe told Grimes the Bucs have only allowed seven points through the fourth quarters of the past five games.

That surprised Grimes. He stopped tying his shoe looked up and said, “That’s dope! Damn!”

Grimes said there’s no secret to the Bucs’ savage finishing. The answers lie in practice.

“Just playing ball and playing fast, knowing where we got to be, communicating. It’s during the week,” Grimes said. “We’re doing a much better job throughout the week doing that and it’s paying off on Sunday.”

Fourth-quarter success is the same as first-quarter success, he added.

“You don’t change anything. You just play your game. Communicate and just play fast and things work out for you when your D-line gets after the quarterback.”

Grimes played on great Falcons teams and seems to finally be impressed by what the Bucs have accomplished this season.

“Five in a row. That’s as good as it gets,” Grimes said. “That’s for real. Two games, three games is good, but five games is big. We know how every game with the playoffs and in this scenario is important. It’s just one at a time, but we’ll enjoy this. Trust me.”

Uh if this is the top of Grimes game, I’d hate to the bottom. Whenever you see a big pass play given up this year you can assume with about 85% certainty it was Grimes or Conte that got burned. The defensive line has been absolutely incredible and that has 90% been the reason for the turn around. Just being realistic – without McCoy and the rest of the D-line being dominant then we’d be seeing what happened last time we played the Falcons and were giving up 4 TDs games to the Rams QB and making Paxton Lynch look like a pro-bowler.

I think Grimes has been pretty good this year. Sure he falls down every now and again… but for the most part he’s performed pretty well and I think he’s a good influence on our young secondary, especially Hargreaves. PFF has Grimes as their 18th best CB this year. I’ll take that.

Bucs fans are ridiculous. This defense held drew Bree’s without a TD and trust me there will be bucs fans upset at grimes like the idiot comment above me. Kid plays his ass off and we’re lucky to have him

The entire secondary did their jobs today and should be congratulated. Drew Brees had orchestrated 41 4th quarter comebacks in his career, and he had 2 minutes left on the clock with one timeout. Congratulations, Bucs!

We held the #1 scoring offense to their lowest score all year.

Dont complain about our D, its elite.

Complain about the o line. Jameis doesnt get sacked much because he has elite pocket presence,. O line is garbage. Almost every run almost every pass there is a breakthrough. O line needs a minimum of 2 new pieces

  6. Jolly Bucs Fan Says:

I get it joes, i really like licht too, and his supposed success on the oline would prove it. I still love licht, but i have been dialed in 1000% the past few games, and there is only one aspect of our team that rarely performs.

    Offensive line.

    @Jolly Bucs Fan
We got sweezy next season!! :-p

  8. Doctor Stroud Says:

Although I would love to see what Sweezy can do in a Bucs uniform, I have the impression that he won’t be around after this season. This is based on past reporting on this site, among others. Then again, no one has done a thorough report on this. Even I can only diagnose so much far away from One Buc Place from my air conditioned office. I can’t believe that I am writing this, but I hope that Demar Dotson is healthy next week. We need all hands on deck against the Cowgirls!
