Quick Note From San Diego

A view outside Joe’s suburban San Diego hotel last night as the sun bounces off the mountains at dusk before sinking into the Pacific Ocean.

Yes, Joe is typing a quick post from his hotel in suburban San Diego. It’s mid-morning in sunny San Diego (yeah, that’s a redundant phrase).

This is Joe’s first time in San Diego and only second time in California. Yeah, Joe can see why San Diego is a desirable place to live, provided you have cash to burn. California is not cheap.

Anyway, while driving from the airport yesterday, Joe was listening to a local FM rock station that just happens to be the FM flagship station of Chargers broadcasts. The afternoon DJ was talking about tomorrow’s game and said, “This ought to be a good game Sunday. I never thought I’d ever say that about a Buccaneers game but, hey, they kicked Seattle’s [backside] last week.”

Joe italicized the above phrase because the DJ said it in such a condescending, gross tone, as if he said, “Eeewww!” after walking around his house barefoot and stepping in his dog’s freshly dropped dung.

Win Sunday, and folks will respect your Buccaneers, Joe is confident.

Now, off to explore San Diego. Joe is heading to the USS Midway museum and hopefully the Pacific Ocean for the first time (Joe doesn’t think Fisherman’s Wharf in San Francisco qualifies as the Pacific).

Go to South Beach Bar & Grill located on Ocean Beach!

    So good!

  2. IK Says:

I hope you have time to check out Torrey Pines.

If you stay in La Jolla you may not want to go back to Florida.

  3. Joe Says:

    Not sure what that is.

Joe, you need to go to Ocean Beach and drive out to the Sunset Cliffs. absolutely breathtaking.

Then drive up to La Jolla and cruise Torrey Pines. You can check out the beach and beautiful cliffs up there as well, along with a beautiful drive.

And i know you love pretty ladies, so I would swing through Pacific Beach during the day or downtown at night. Although when it;s in the 50s here, the ladies show a bit less skin.

Judging from that photo, looks like you’re around Mission Valley or Clairemont.

OB and PB are very close, as is Torrey pines in La Jolla. La Jolla is stuffy and super rich, similar to Naples, FL but w/ better views and food.

Was thinking that might be some golf course, which Joe considers beneath him.

Thanks. If have time, will go there.

    That’s a good description.

John Lynch is from La Jolla.

Make sure you stay near the Pacific ocean. San Diego has had major wildfires recently due to climate change. Major site for the US Navy, too. Enjoy as I had family who lived in LA and raved about going down to San Diego for vaca. LIke when we Orlando krewe come over to either the Space/Gold Coast for some R and R. BTW, please bring us home a win!!!

  11. unbelievable Says:

Yea it’s definitely nice up there, but I prefer areas like OB much more. Good mix of people, demographics, etc., that make it an interesting and vibrant community. And the cliffs are truly epic.

If I was still single, I would be in PB though. Without question 🙂

  12. Aaron Says:

This place is worth a stop too.

Stone Brewing World Bistro & Gardens – Liberty Station

  13. unbelievable Says:

^^ Oh yes. Stone is awesome. Some amazing food at the public market too, similar to the ferry building in SF

Say Joe, you’re spot on bout Diego. Lived there for a bout 2 yrs.You can’t find a decent 1 bedroom apt there for less than 950 per month. And the house notes start at around 1800..and that’s a shack! Welcome to Cali!! There is cheap shopping right across the border in Tijuana. and the tequila is definitely primo! Fishermans wharf is a tourist trap to the max. Alcatraz tour ain’t bad though. Enjoy!!!!!!!!

  15. Pit Says:

Even in south Florida you can’t find a decent 1 bdr under 1k

  16. unbelievable Says:

1 bedrooms in the beach towns are going for 1400 – 1600 now.

A crappy 2 bedroom is easily over 2400. Anything decent is closer to 2800 now. Gets cheaper the further inland you go of course.
