More Pro Bowl Film For Gerald McCoy

December 11th, 2016
McCoy

Diverse impact

The beast of beasts up the gut of the Bucs defense had another great day today.

Joe challenges any remaining Gerald McCoy bashers to fire up the game film.

There you’ll see McCoy putting on an array of pass rushing moves and doing plenty of winning and rattling of Drew Brees.

The final stats for McCoy? NFL.com says one solo tackle and one assist. But it’s not about the numbers today.

There’s a reason Drew Brees had one of his worst games as a professional: steady pressure from the Bucs’ front-4. With the game on the line,  and in many big spots, defensive coordinator Mike Smith was not blitzing.

The confidence was there for the Bucs’ D-line, and with good reason.

Look at the replay of Brent Grimes interception. It’s a four-man rush with McCoy bull-rushing the guard into Drew Brees’ face. That pass gets altered just enough to lead to the Keith Tandy tip and the Grimes pick.

No. 93 did that kind of stuff all day.

Noah Spence’s batted down pass? That was all McCoy flushing Brees. Plenty of good stuff against the run today, too. New Orleans did nothing on the ground.

Joe will drink one of many cold ones tonight in honor of McCoy, who will earn his fifth consecutive Pro Bowl nod this year.

It might seem like one of his “quietest” seasons, but it’s definitely one of his best.

Hey coach? On that game ball for the fans? Want to really make it memorable? Trot it around during the week on the coach and player’s radio shows if they’re at a public place. Have all the players, coaches and owners sign it. Let the fans touch it and then auction it off for charity. There was a perfect opportunity last week on an auction to benefit a children’s cancer hospital. Let a fan end up with the ball and benefit a good cause. Win win!!!

Make it happen Ira, Steve and Lee!!! You guys are the best!!! Go Bucs!!!

  2. AceofAerospace Says:

Darryl Johnson made a point of pointing out the double teams McCoy constantly received freeing up other pass rushers. So, at least the TV viewers got schooled.

When you have to start doubling Noah Spence sone of the time, that’s when Gerald will really shine. GTHO haters!!!

  4. DallasBuc Says:

I have been hard on McCoy but the front four played well enough to beat anyone. Sorry but this is not the same defense that I saw first hand at home vs ATL and OAK.
Dallas is and should be very concerned. Dak is a rookie with an easy cast of characters and competition get complacent

  5. Mike Evans GOAT Says:

Well boys, it looks like we will get Dallas best shot next week with the Giants winning this week.

  6. DB55 Says:

The Saints had three possessions in the fourth quarter, ending in a punt and two interceptions.

When I read this I thought to myself “I bet they say it was all due to McCoy” then I laughed at the absurdity of my own thought. But I’ve underestimated the power of the smile yet again.

Where’s the Keith Tandy, Robert Ayers, Spawn and Russell Shepard articles?

P.S. Charles Davis a fanboy too.

McCoy has played a lot better this year. The line stunts are great. watch the game from nose bleeds but his hands and leverage has greatly improve. Props to McCoy and the entire defense.

  8. SB with Jameis Says:

Defense won this game. Jameis barely did his job tonight. I was nervous. Pass rush and Secondary coverage complimented each other most of the night. Offense barely got us by. Can’t have this next week Guys!!!

  9. DB55 Says:

He played well and was getting held on almost every play.

Its impossible to be a Bucs fan and not love closing a game out on defense. Ray Jay was built off defense.
