Your Current NFC Playoff Situaton

December 11th, 2016

Hargreaves2UPDATED 11:59 p.m. : Here’s the latest!

The streaking Bucs (8-5) remain tied for the NFC South lead with Atlanta. The Falcons, minus Julio Jones, jumped out to a 14-0 lead in Los Angeles and cruised to victory.

Also, Tampa Bay remains in great shape in the secondary Wild Card race.

The Redskins defense held on during the Eagles’ final drive to lock up a huge win in Philly. Washington is 7-5-1. Philly (5-8) is done.

The Vikings (7-6) beat a lifeless Jaguars team with a fourth-quarter comeback on Jacksonville’s home turf, aka the city morgue. Green Bay (7-6) thrust itself back into relevance with a pounding of NFC West–leading Seattle.

Don’t look now, but the Seahawks (8-4-1) are only a half-game up on the Bucs and Tampa Bay owns the tiebreaker for playoff seeding among division winners. Detroit is 9-4 but faces the Giants, Dallas and Green Bay to close the season.

It’s not wacky to say the Bucs have a solid shot at a No. 2 or No. 3 playoff seed.

Owning second-place in the NFC East and leading the Wild Card parade, the Giants (9-4) beat the Cowboys (11-2) by a 10-7 margin.

It’s on to Dallas for the Bucs on Sunday night. (Don’t forget Joe’s big watch party at Abe’s Place in Clearwater. ($5.00 off your bill if you wear any kind of Bucs gear.)

  4. 941BUC Says:

Joe doesn’t Dallas lead the league in points in the 4th qtr? Tampa has allowed just 7!tonight should tell us how Dallas does against playoff teams like the giants and Tampa next Sunday!

  5. SB with Jameis Says:

I just pray that my 9 and 7 prediction is TWO games off.

  6. Trubucfan22 Says:

Dont the bucs own the latest set of tie breakers for the division? I think have the same record, same rwcord against the division, amd we now have the tie breaker of record against like opponents. Please correct me if im wrong.

  7. Rojas Says:

Only thing I’m really concerned with is our Oline. Other then that everyone has been playing great IMO.

  8. feelthepewterpower Says:

Atlanta clinched the common opponent tiebreaker with the win over the rams, should it come down to that. Even if the Buccs lose next week (which isn’t an automatic given), if the Buccs are able to beat both the panthers and saints again, and if Atlanta loses at Carolina, Buccs will clinch the division! Go Buccs!

  9. SB with Jameis Says:

@Trubucfan, I believe that if we win out and so does Atl we will be completely tied in W’s, Div, Conf…….Then it would go to Strength of W’s where as we would win out. Specially when we beat Dallas next week.

  10. MadMax Says:

Dallas game is winnable….they’re already in the playoffs and will be going easy with the starters 🙂

  11. SB with Jameis Says:

I believe that if Dallas can’t run it on us then they can’t beat us.

  12. Tampa Tony Says:

Offense needs to play better to give this team a chance

  13. d-roca Says:

Every game is winnable. Thats why they play em n we watch em. Dont care if aikman n irvin come back lets whoop them cowgirls! Go bucs

  14. Trubucfan22 Says:

The division would awesome but i’d be just as happy to be the wildcard. Playoff football was a pipe dream to start the season.

  15. Rrsrq Says:

If Giants lose to oys, Bucs and Giants are tied, who has the first wildcard

  16. Vincente Says:

I’ll be in dallas! I’m so pumped for this. What an amazing season this has turned out be. Thank buccaneers!

  17. Buccfan37 Says:

A nice win for the Bucs. Difficult for sure, but oh what a relief it is.

  18. GhostofSchiano Says:

O-line play has me highly concerned. Happy for Aguyao and Tandy. Big game for these 2 former goats.

  19. GhostofSchiano Says:

JOE….if Cowboys win tonight do they lock up homefield advantage? Hoping they might so they will rest thier starters against us.

  20. rayjay1122 Says:

If the Giants lose tonight, we will leap ahead of them because we have a better conference record. We would be the 5th seed if the Cowboys win tonight.

  21. Alex Says:

I could be wrong but if Dallas wins tonight I think they lock up the #1 seed. Next week they’ll be in “let’s go vanilla with some weird experimental plays featuring those 2 guys on the practice squad we want to try out more”……..so(tonight) let’s go Dallas!

  22. tval Says:

The eagles and wentz did whatever they wanted IN DALLAS!! Im not scared i know these bucs arent

Not correct (yet). For Divisional seeding, the 3rd tie breaker (after head to head, and Div record) is Record among common games. The Bucs and Falcons (not including division games because they would have the same record) play a common schedule of 8 games (KC,OAK,DEN,SD,SF,SEA,LA,ARI). The Bucs currently have a record of 4-4 in those games, Atlanta has a record of 3-4 (victories against OAK,DEN,ARI).

If Atlanta loses to the 49ers (highly doubtful) and they have the same record, the Bucs would TAKE the third tiebreaker.

Correct me if i’m wrong anyone.

  24. tval Says:

Jameis having that ’14 fsu ok st game experience is now big…remember tyreek hill that game?? Wow!!! Hadnt seen him since till recently

  25. Wright Says:

ATL has a 4-3 record, my mistake. They just beat LA.

If they beat the 49ers next week, then ATL will own the third tiebreaker, and the only way we can pass them is us picking up a game on them.

  26. Shane Says:

HEy how about some Agauyo love ? He won this game too.

  27. Buc2015 Says:

I think it’s a bit of a loser mentality to hope for Dallas to clinch home-field advantage tonight, and have less to play for next week. I don’t want that, nor do I think we need that.

Bring them on at full strength, with something to play for, and take them down on a national stage.

  28. Buc2015 Says:

Actually Dallas cannot clinch HFA tonight, they needed a Detroit loss in addition to the Seattle loss

  29. Nick Says:

We are tied in division and conference record with atl…. so why is Atlanta ahead of us??

  30. $acbuc$ Says:

Joe now most of the defense has a INT except the Dline and Daryl. I’m happy for the rookie. We can beat Dallas y’all here’s why. In the offseason I watch a lot of film on Sweezy, Grimes, and Ayers. The focus here is Ayers and upon watching film I noticed that he is the only DE I seen that gave Tyron problems. I seen Beasting beat him more then once so if the double Gerald it will be some one on one match ups all game. We gotta stop Dak Zeke and Dez if we expect to beat them Cowboy!

  31. Philip Says:

If the giants lose tonight, Bucs will have the 5th seed.

  32. Wright Says:

    Nick,

They have a better record in common games. That is the third tiebreaker.

  33. Sam Says:

The fact that we’re even having this conversation in December is a win. Considering that our WR depth, RB position and safeties are all question marks it is a testament to the hard work these guys have put in. I expect us to falter down the stretch but the future is bright.

  34. cmurda Says:

I looked back and read several posts here on several threads and saw some commenters asking about the crowd, particularly in upper levels. I can tell you this game was packed and it was as loud as I’ve heard that stadium. It wasn’t pretty but our defense is ballin. It’s getting real fun to be a part of this as a fan. It’s a good thing I’m typing because I have absolutely no voice left.

  35. OneBuc55 Says:

Let’s draft a stud Offensive Tackle…Gos is over the hill and Dotson is serviceable but neither are starting caliber tackles right now Imho…

  36. m&m Says:

We need one more win (Dallas), before we can talk playoffs. We need to improve on our offensive output to do that and to win at least a playoff game. I know we can do it. Go Bucs.

  37. Derekbucsfan Says:

$acbuc$ Daryl got an interception in Carolina in that Monday night game so yea other than the d line just about everyone has a pick. Great game last night I absolutely can’t wait till Sunday night I think we win and put the league on notice
