Panthers Ready For “Sabbatical”

December 26th, 2016
Publicly waves a white flag -- with one game to play.

Outpoken on vacation

Will the Panthers mail in the season finale in Tampa on Sunday?

Absolutely, if you listen closely to the words of Cam Newton.

Yes, Cam is looking ahead to next year and is ready for his teammates to step away from the game — despite one more game to play.

“There’s hope for the future. We had a long run, a long, long run, man. It’s time for guys to just have a sabbatical sort of speak, man, and get away from it,” Newton said after his team was blown out 33-16 in Atlanta on Saturday.

Newton sure doesn’t sound like a guy eager to wear the jersey and crush the will of his division-rival Buccaneers on New Year’s Day.

Heck, maybe Newton will sit out, given his attitude and all the hits he’s taken through the year. After this commentary, Newton surely won’t argue with a day off.

No reason the Bucs should lose Sunday. Gotta defend the home turf and beat a bad team if you want to be considered a solid club.

He mailed it in last week. He appeared to clearly not give a crap from snap one this past Sunday.

They’re going to tank for a better draft pick, it make sense to me. But they still will give us a tough game.

  4. LakeLandBuc Says:

Jairus Byrd wanted to beat the Bucs bad, his 2 INTS was a Christmas to his Father ( Gil Byrd ).

My wish is to watch Cam pout. Bucs defense needs to pound this whiny little b!tch into submission and then crap on his face. Big game from Jameis to close out…

You dont ever hear anyone say it… But Cam Newton is leaving behind a breadcrumb trail of gayness… Hes gay

The Bucs haven’t beat the Panthers at home since 2012. This is in no way a give me. The Panthers showed up for that Redskins game only 2 weeks ago. I just can’t see this team with Riviera coaching it that went to the SB last year laying down. I think they’re going to do the whole we need to end on an up note. I’d be more worried about the Bucs laying an egg after 2 really tough road losses that were fairly close and now basically being out of it. That and who does Winston even have left to throw the ball to other than Evans? I mean in the 4th quarter in NO they’re doubling on Evans so Winston was having to throw it to Meyers, our 4th string TE, as his go to guy.

This isn’t a gimme by any means and if the Bucs lose I don’t want to hear about how they quit or other BS, the Bucs are a really really badly banged up offense and Winston has one NFL guy to throw to if Brate is out, and everyone in the league knows that. This offseason the Bucs have to get some WRs, with an S.

Im putting my money on the Bucs to win. 9-7 season… Progress. 2017 will be time to feast.

Does that coward Cam Newton want to host the Giants or the REDSKINS. Does he want to go to Arizona or L.A.? The win can decide who is first or second place. I say SCREW IT GO FOR THE WIN. Bring the Giants fans here. We have Lysol. We’ve had bad B.O. at RayJay last year when they were here. Score to stettle in Phoenix? OH YEAH! Bring it! Bucs are on the rise Baby…Bucs fans need to stop being afraid of opponents. Stop hoping we lose because you think you get a better player. Enough of the defeatist attitude! What you are you? WWII France?

Correction Joe, the Panthers weren’t blown out in Atlanta…they were blown out on their home field. Something that can’t happen here AGAIN next year. It sure can’t happen Sunday. And me with $1200 in six season tickets…feel like I do before an appointment with the dentist for root canal crown. Only I don’t get any cool meds to take beforehand.

  16. Mike Johnson Says:

I’m laughing here. Don’t let Cam’s comment fool you on Iota. Panthers will be ready. Last home game in front of your fans. Every team wants to leave that winning memory to its fans. They will play all out. You can take this to the bank. If the Bucs want this win? They are gonna have to dig real deep. I got it being a very close game. We shall see. Hell, even the Cleveland Brown ain’t gonna lay down for their last game.

  17. JonBuc Says:

This game has a Cam Newton field day written all over it…miles of smiles…souvenir balls for Panther fans following touchdowns….just wait.

  18. Real Buc Fan Says:

Mike the game is in Tampa so Cam not at home. Tampa should never take any team lightly. The Bucs still have fight in them they are playing hard for their coach. We are getting we a few players away.

    ^there

  20. richbucsfan Says:

It’s been interesting to read this board this season. There are a number of participants who believe a game is won here on the board rather than on the field. They come up with ridiculous statements about how the other team is packing it in and will not attempt to try to win. Again and again, they are wrong. It’s the Bucs that lose as they did in Dallas (so many here decided the Bucs would win that one here in the board; and, they believed the Bucs would easily win in NO last Saturday). Fact seems to be that the Bucs are a team in disarray. Something’s up with the Martin thing that we will find out about in the offseason. For now, it’s a “coaches decision”. There’s smoke, there’s fire. And on the side of reality…the Bucs Oline is not doing even a good job, no WRs besides Evans, #54 has packed it in, weak pass defense. So, I’m sure the Panthers have seen enough film to know that the Bucs are ripe for the picking. I’m not sure I can even say the Bucs players are upset they’re out of the playoffs. Why should they be? They get their millions and will head out of town to wherever they live. They have no roots here. If they lose Sunday as I anticipate they will, a portion of them will be back for next season along with a number of rookies and free agents.

9-7 would feel infinitely better than 8-8 and would give me hope going into 2017
