“One Of Those Calculus Teachers You Had In College”

"Kwon, think of it as an indefinite integral."

“Kwon, think of it as an indefinite integral.”

What a run for Dominik-Schiano Man safety Keith Tandy!

The fifth-year man is wowing since jumping in as a starter two games ago.

The Tandy Man is even doing national radio interviews! He was on NBC Sports Radio this morning in prime time with Mike Florio of PFT Live.

Tandy, who aspires to be an NFL coach, was asked about his newest boss, Mike Smith. And what a take rolled of Tandy’s tongue

“He’s a very detailed guy. He’s like a mad scientist, one of those calculus teachers you had in college that he can’t, sometimes stuff is so simple to him he can’t realize how complicated it is to everybody else,” Tandy said of Smith.

The Bucs’ fifth-year safety explained that after the Tampa Bay was clubbed by the Falcons to fall to 1-3, Smith met with players and “got back to basics.” So essentially, Smith brought the college calculus down to eighth-grade Algebra 1.

Interesting stuff there from Tandy, who added he thinks the Bucs’ repeated coaching turnover has been a blessing for him. Continuity is nice, Tandy said, but a shot to learn from multiple sets of coaches has made him a much better player.

As for Smith being like a college calculus professor, well, Joe has no clue. Joe’s idea of higher mathematics is managing a fistful of singles and fives at Mons Venus.

I’ve always loved Tandy! He’s always played solid whenever he’s had the chance to.

    Really…$5’s at Mons?

    Classy.

Really hope the Glazers open up the bank to keep Mike Smith a la Monte Kiffin back in the day. Give him a title bump to assistant HC as well, or something like that. Jay Hayes can get bumped up to assistant def. coordinator and everyone is happy.

Hey Joe, did you know the Bucs are 6-0 this season when Doug Martin plays a full game? They are 2-5 when he does not… 🙂

Keith Tandy is getting a ton a credit, which is well deserved.

But don’t let that distract you from the enormous tackle that Bradley Mcdougal made to set up the pick. Mike Smith really has these defenders understanding down and distance and where the first down markers are. Mcdougal made that tackle to set up a 4th and 1.

With our defense, we make you have to fight for every yard, where forcing more punts every week. Screw Lovies bend but don’t break philosophy.

  5. Bucsfanman Says:

It’s nice to see, literally, the next man up being successful in this defense. Whatever it was that got guys buying in, thank you. It is night and day, comparatively speaking.

  6. The Buc Realist Says:

The best thing about this defense is how clutch they are on big downs!!! It really seems that our plays are very well disguised on big third downs!!! I really like this coaching staff for the unpredictability!!!!

  7. DB55 Says:

How’s that crow joe? Is it plump and juicy?

Which one of you Conte fans still want to see him starting?

  8. DB55 Says:

The next man up thing all credit goes to the coaching in that situation. Koetter and crew deserve huge props for coaching up the entire team and getting them ready to play.

If the Bucs get to the playoffs Koetter is instantly COY candidate and JW may get MVP consideration too.

  9. Bucsfanman Says:

@DB55- Tandy is playing well but lets not go overboard right now. We’re winning so everybody’s giddy but Tandy has seen his fair share of ‘dope’ moments. If I were to compare the two right now, I would say Tandy brings a little more thump. It’s a lot more exciting but I think there’s a reason for him being below Conte on the depth chart.
And yes, coaching deserves a lot of credit for that.

  10. DB55 Says:

I would say Tandy brings a little more thump.

Understatement of the year but your on the right track. And you speak as if Conte wasn’t getting burnt on play action all year until his last game.

Why must you guys question me? My crystal ball is yet to be wrong. Help me help youz.

  11. Trubucfan22 Says:

Agreed DB. Conte is not a special player. He makes most of the routine plays, and rarely has a splash play. His pass coverage is very suspect. His angles to the ball carrier are usually decent.

Tandy has proven to be a ball hawk. If winning the turnover battle results in wins, then tandy is your man! He accounted for 3 INTs in 2 games. Conte has 2 INTs in 2 years!

I would put Conte in the role as the old reliable back up. No highlight reel type plays, just solid football. While Tandy has played like Ed Reed the past 2 games.

  12. Bucsfanman Says:

Not at all DB, I’m very familiar, unfortunately, with Conte getting toasted. Trubuc is certainly on the right track but lets be real, 5-6 weeks ago, very few were actually making any type of plays on this team. Neither Conte nor Tandy are going to scare anybody. So there’s still a need there.
I’m not sure why you’re seeking vindication as if Tandy was being squirreled away in favor of an inferior player. That’s weird!
Great job Tandy! Keep up the good work!

  13. DB55 Says:

    Trubuc

He accounted for 3 INTs in 2 games. Conte has 2 INTs in 2 years!

    I would put Conte…

And no, Joe doesn’t think Keith Tandy is the answer. Joe will take a leap of faith and believe if the defensive coaches of the Bucs thought Tandy was a better option, then he’d be starting by now.

Besides, the way Tandy did his best impersonation of Mo Stovall on that gutless non-tackle of Tavon Austin, which cost the Bucs a touchdown against the Rams, Tandy shouldn’t be starting. At least Conte can tackle.

  16. DB55 Says:

If you find the 5 references to Tandy in the last article, no one gave him a chance. No one believed. Except me!!!!!

  17. Bucsfanman Says:

I know stats are for losers but it bears mentioning here for those with blinders on.
Career stats since 2012 when both came into the league. I’ll leave it to you to figure out who’s who:
    118 Tackles, 6 INTs, 1 Forced Fumble
    345 Tackles 12 INTs, 3 Forced Fumbles

So is this just coincidence? Hmmm! Maybe Tandy has some secret power that the Bucs were afraid to unleash all these years!
It’s a good ‘problem’ to have with Tandy coming in and contributing. If he beats out Conte, that’s great too!

  18. Bucsfanman Says:

Actually Conte came into the NFL in 2011. Sorry!

  19. Bucsfanman Says:

Well DB, great job! I’m sure Tandy dedicated these last 2 games to you for that!!! 🙂

  20. DB55 Says:

Lol I hope he did, well we had Barron and Goldson for a while and he’s not better than them but anyone is better than Conte, anyone!!!

  21. Bucsfanman Says:

I remember at one time ALMOST wishing for the great Sabby the Goat! ALMOST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  22. DB55 Says:

    Lmao.

  23. Onebucdaddy Says:

This has to be systems based results. Did not Conte have 2 huge interceptions in as many games much like Tandy has had? These dudes are just balling. Simple as that…

  24. Chris Bucs Fan Says:

“Joe’s idea of higher mathematics is managing a fistful of singles and fives at Mons Venus.”

God, I love Joe so much.

  25. Player One Says:

Tandy must have been chomping at the bit after watching Conte fail to recognize where he was supposed to be in the new defense multiple times early on. Hes doing a great job. Would have never have thought we actually had depth at safety before the Bears game…

  26. firethecannons Says:

Tandy always starts(when he starts) the game with a mammoth tackle, full power, behind the line tackle, then after he is extreme proud, high jumpin after–I really like this guy–puts alot of energy into the game.

  27. Rod Munch Says:

I’d just like to point out that I predicted weeks ago that Tandy would get an INT off Brees when Tandy was put into the line-up.

I also earlier in the year predicted that Hawley would leave every game earlier in the season at least twice with some sort of injury and come back in the same game.

Before the season I predicted Evans would get 1500 yards and 14 TDs and be the top WR in fantasy – and up until 2 weeks ago I felt really good about that since he was the leading WR in fantasy and was on pace for like 1450 yards and 15 TDs.

  28. Brandon Says:

The Bucs were clubbed by somebody other than the Falcons (Broncos maybe?) to go 1-3. They got clubbed by the Falcons and went to 3-5.
