Mike Glennon To Bills In 2017

“The Professor” forecasts new home for Bucs QB

If the Bucs miss the playoffs, the Mike Glennon era with the Bucs will end.

That’s the guess from longtime NFL insider “The Professor,” John Clayton of BSPN. He is of the mind a quarterback-needy team will jump at the chance to sign Glennon and this team will be Buffalo, Clayton believes.

If Buffalo moves on [from Tyrod Taylor], it could turn to Glennon, the former third-round pick who has started 18 games for the Buccaneers and is a free agent after the season. Glennon will be one of the top signal-callers on a weak free-agent market. This could also be a potential landing spot for Colin Kaepernick, but that would likely be on a short-term deal. I think the Bills will draft a quarterback in the middle of the first round, but the top QB prospects don’t have much starting experience and will need time to develop.

This wouldn’t shock Joe one bit if Glennon leaves. It just bums Joe out to no end that Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht couldn’t find a sap taker for Glennon in return for a draft pick or two.

Hopefully, for the Bucs’ foreseeable future, there will be no more top-10 draft picks.

  1. tmaxcon Says:

huge mistake by licht for not fleecing some qb needy team for this bum. I’d prefer 8 stay in the division or conference especially if he lucks into a starting job due to injury. he damn sure won’t win one.

  2. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Nobody except for perhaps Wolfpack fans care where MG8 goes…….thanks Mike for putting the pressure on Freeman getting his sorry a$$ out of here…..also thanks Mike for the many hours of debates and discussions on what and where your future should be.

The time for trades ended two years ago. We wish you well with your future endeavors.

  3. R.O. Says:

You are commenting from a position of ignorance. You have no idea what was offered or not offered for MG8. You commenting that Licht made a huge mistake for not “fleecing” another team borders on idiocy and is ludicrous.

  4. Bucsfanman Says:

It’s only a mistake if it hurts your team, and it didn’t. I wish nothing but the best for Mike.

  5. J 2.0 Says:

I have to agree with R.O.

Though with less strong language. I do not think Glennon is all that bad. He is better than McCown, and that guy continues to find a starting gig. Jameis is clearly much much much much much much (am I making my point?) better than him so he has no future here, but for a team that committed an idiotic amount of money to a terrible QB (Houston) it may make sense for them to invest a little less in a less terrible QB.

A team that has everything in place on defense and offense but is near the top of the salary cap could use Glennon and probably make a good run. He is good enough to manage an offense. Think Denver, Houston, Arizona…

  6. tmaxcon Says:

    R.O.

Glennon will fail. He does not have the heart, desire or talent to lead a team to the promise land. Any pick would have been a fleece job for a bad backup with no heart and a 5-13 career record. All the excuses and bs you want to fire back are meaningless the results are all that matter. He will get his shot and he will fail. I look forward to your excuses. Mike Glennon has never been nor will he ever be a NFL caliber starter.

  7. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

I agree. I am sure if there was a fleece available Licht would have taken it. I have a feeling this will be proven out once he explores free agency. I say there is a good chance he stays here as our back up. After the Texans blunder signing of 2nd tier/back up QB the market has dried up. GMs don’t want to put their neck on the line trying to convert a guy that should be a career back up QB into a solid starter.

  8. tmaxcon Says:

all the excuses and the big meaning schiano crap coupled with big softee’s mccown love affair mean nothing. the bottom line is IF Glennon was a sure fire Starter even a bottom level starter a team would have offered up a pick Licht could not refuse. QB are too valuable in this league. Not a single GM in this league believes 8 is a guaranteed upgrade from what they have. anything else is pure bs speculation and hope from the fan boys.

  9. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    tmaxcon Says
“Glennon will fail. He does not have the heart, desire or talent to lead a team to the promise land.”

I agree. That’s why I think he resigns here.

  10. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Irony would be if Mike resigns in Tampa…and THEN Licht gets a good trade offer and leaps on it.

Unfortunately, the only way he gets playing time is if Winston goes down…so I hope he rides the bench.

  11. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I will say this though, and it backs what tmaxcon said…

…I don’t think Mike Glennon actually fits in with the culture change. We need guys with fire. That is something he lacks in a big way.

  12. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

Jesus Christ you two are annoying. He isn’t a good QB but how do know he has no heart? Because he didn’t stretch out a run one time three years ago. You two guys are just bitter. I’ve never heard once that Mike is lazy or doesn’t have heart from the coaching staff. You two key board all pros know everything though right.

  13. NutterBuccer Says:

Would get a 3rd round comp pick hopefully if he signs big bucks

  14. rayjay1122 Says:

Not sure what the if the Bucs miss the playoffs has to do with Glennon leaving after the season. As far as the playoffs, we have to beat New Orleans and I can’t even believe I am rooting for the Panthers 2 weeks in a row since a Falcon loss and a Bucs win would put us in sole possession of first place in the division. I think Carolina could pull it off in Carolina. Then we would have a huge game to finish the year with major playoff implications. That scenario would be great.

  15. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

Yes I stayed up last night to make sure the Panthers won….and I hate those guys. Cam is so annoying too. Walking around the field mocking the Washington fans. He just comes off like a complete D-bag. But oh man will I be pulling for them to beat the Falcons this week.

  16. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    TouchDownTampaBay Says
“He isn’t a good QB but how do know he has no heart?”

Speaking for myself, I don’t care about what he did 3 years ago. I care about how he’s grown since. And the Mike Glennon I see these days is not a leader, has zero fire, and is a statue in the pocket on most plays.

You may be a MG homer. I don’t know. But don’t lose touch with reality. Mike Glennon has had lots of opportunities to prove himself and to increase his value. He hasn’t. And why is that?

    BECAUSE HE HAS NO HEART.

    Period.

  17. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

I disagree. He has no talent. Not the same as no heart.

  18. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

And I’m NOT bitter toward Mike Glennon. Not at all.

I am simply judging him according to what he has shown.

You tell me…in what ways has he grown under our guarterback guru head coach/former OC? If he is hungry, then you would be able to answer that, because it would be obvious.

  19. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Oh, he’s got talent. He wouldn’t have been drafted if he didn’t. The difference we see in great NFL players and bad ones come as a result of the desire (heart) to be the best.

Like Jameis. Like Kwon. Like Hargreaves. Like half the team.

  20. tmaxcon Says:

    TouchDownTampaBay

when 8 dove out of bounds before the marker on that 3rd down play he PROVED he has no heart and is completely incapable of leading a team. 8 is irreverent the only discussion of value is the fact licht failed to get anything of value for him prior to walking. even a port o let would have been something of value.

  21. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

He hasn’t played so I have no idea. It is pretty simple to me though. He has zero athleticism and just isn’t a high quality QB. Don’t you think some players simply have a low ceiling. If you train for the next three years as hard as you can I would guess that you would get nowhere near an NFL football field. You have a low ceiling no matter how hard you work at it. Glennon has a low ceiling as far as making it as a QB at the highest level.

  22. Gencoimports Says:

Glennon is a serviceable backup. Hopefully, we get a comp pick, but I’m not going to hold my breath.

  23. tmaxcon Says:

Every player has a defining moment in their career 8’s defining moment is his cowardly dive out of bounds. loser too bad bucs will not get to play him often.

  24. Bucsfan951 Says:

    Agree R.O.

You have to understand, tmaxipad is an armchair gm. We ALL understand he isn’t worth a pot to piss in. Thing is tmax, you don’t know if he was even offered any draft pick for Glennon or what round draft pick (if offered one). Kinda hard to “fleece” a team that knows Glennon isn’t a top or even middle tear qb.

  25. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

He HAS played. In preseason games. Those were his chance to prove he’d improved. He did not.

  26. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Tom Brady is not athletic. Mike Glennon should know his strengths and weaknesses by now, and should have worked hard to overcome the weaknesses. If he had heart, nothing would stop him. If he had heart, he would have made drafting a QB a tough decision. If he had heart, he would be getting his teammates fired up on the sidelines.

  27. Lamarcus Says:

Should of made a trade to get something

  28. Mike Johnson Says:

Good luck to Glennon. The kid has played his string nobly throughout his career. Its time for him to move on to see if he has what it takes to be a starter in this league. And you never know. The years on non wear and tear may have served him well while while in training. I wish him nothing but the best. He just might catch on elsewhere.

  29. BuccaneEric75 Says:

Glennon will sign a reasonable deal to remain Winstons backup. 4-5 million a year. You heard it here first! lol

  30. GhostofTedford Says:

Trade him to the Magic for cash. Best deal possible

  31. GhostofTedford Says:

Arizona Cardinals. Write it down, pure bank.

  32. Maze Says:

Haha poor Bills fans even being torchered before the offseason even begins

  33. GhostofTedford Says:

    From a 2013 article –

Even though Arians believes Arizona has an advantage facing a first-time rookie starter, he was a fan of Glennon during the evaluation process earlier this year.

“Oh, I loved him,” Arians said. “Big, strong arm. Big, strong guy. Knew his older brother and good family, good football family. Tough, good leader.”

Arians pointed out that Glennon replaced Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson at NC State before the latter transferred to Wisconsin

  34. GhostofTedford Says:

The Carson palmer era draws to a close, welcome the Glennon era to AZ

  35. Trubucfan22 Says:

Depending on what the bucs do with free agency. We could get up to a 3rd round pick in a compensation pick. That is if the bucs don’t go crazy in free agency. I know most here think we should spend and over spend to get talent here, but I think we are close as we sit. The draft should be our main focus for adding talent. Sure a depth pick up and maybe 1 or 2 veterans to compete for jobs, should be encouraged, but I don’t think this teams needs to spend crazy in free agency next off season. And if they don’t, then glennon might pay out better than if we were to trade him.

  36. ElioT Says:

You guys think because Glennon doesn’t scream and yell and head butt opposing players that he lacks fire?

The guy may not be a leader like Jameis but jesus christ, he was drafted by one of the worst football teams in the league, put up decent numbers and has been nothing but a good teammate.

I feel like most of you guys hate Glennon just because he’s uglier than a bag of d**ks.

    Bunch of a**holes.

  37. Nole on Sat.-Bucc on Sun. Says:

No heart I can tell y’all about player wit no heart. Z ran for 159 dk threw for almost 300, we gave’em turnovers and still had a chance to win that game if only they’re were a gmc siting. Talking about stealing the Glazers money.

  38. Trubucfan22 Says:

I find it odd that the people that think glennon sucks and is not an NFL QB, also think the bucs were stupid not to trade him…. if glennon is so terrible, why would any team trade for him? The logic here is beyond stupid.

Glennon has value. It’s not a lot of value. But as a back up QB he is decent. You do not see teams trading for back up QBs in the middle of the season. It doesn’t make sense. Unless the team is so desperate because all their QBs got hurt. But for the most part, by the time the back up learned the playbook, the season would be over. It is best to acquire QBs in the off season so they have a training camp to learn the play book.

The bucs simply didn’t like the pick compensation for a trade, I’m sure they thought they could keep glennon as a valued back up, and then when free agency hits, hope that he hits the jackpot. Then the bucs get a comp pick and bucs are win/winners.

    hi, checking if im banned

  40. RachelWatson'sthong Says:

Bet Glenon would have hit some of those passes Jaimes missed. I love both of em.
The winning streak for me was an unexpected surprise. All these games are bonuses to me. Playing with house money.
Aguayo has added drama to every kick I don’t see anyone headed to the head during kicks anymore.
If we had Dallas O line,,,,oh man! We need to draft some BUFF”s.. dominate on the line.

  41. Destinjohnny Says:

As much as I hated Dominick he was the master at trading.
Couldn’t evaluate his way out of a paper bag but he could work the room

  42. Buccfan37 Says:

Glennon sucks blah blah. Broken record hung up in a scratch.

  43. Buccfan37 Says:

tmax, bonzai…qb experts NOT. Angry old scrooges, me too.

  44. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Again….like I said above…..Thanks Mike for providing us with 4 years of discussion and debate…..this article is a good example.

I can’t think of another Buc third round pick that has created as much attention.

You can argue talent…..you can argue heart…..but you can’t argue class…

    Thanks for that MIke!!!

  45. SB with Jameis Says:

Anyone who thinks that MG is a Buc next yr is smoking some $hit that is better than ANything my provider sells me. Competitors want to compete.

  46. NCBuc Says:

I’m waiting for MG to be out of the league in 2 years like max said!

  47. SB with Jameis Says:

Ahhh the Voice of reason and one of my Fav posters here making too much sense again. Kudos TBBF and say hello to Pablo for me.

  48. Pickgrin Says:

    Kobe Faker Says:
    “hi, checking if im banned”.

We should all be so lucky to see that happen.

C’mon joe – how bout an early Christmas present. Send Kobe Welcher packing…

  49. Pickgrin Says:

    Prediction:

MG8 signs with an AFC team for $8-$9M per year and Bucs receive a 5th round compensatory pick in 2018 as a result.

  50. SB with Jameis Says:

Howdy Pick. You are for shua right that he won’t be here. I have a bunch of SF fans that are clamoring for him.

  51. NCBuc Says:

Hey! MG sucks so bad that he won’t be in the NFL in years! tmax called it! He’s spot on! He’s a true GM! Can we drop Jason Licht and hire tmax? He knows so much about MG, DM, GM, the entire OL, the DL, and so much more than Licht! He is a GOD among normal working men!

  52. Bucs Ace Says:

    Yea……funny lookin guy too!

  53. tmaxcon Says:

    NCBuc

don’t worry nut hugger he will play himself out of the league… glad i am in your head fool.

  54. FIRETHECANNONS Says:

Why am I not surprised tmax was the first to pounce on a Glennon article. I can’t figure out your unwavering hatred for the kid. I get it, he’s not a starting QB, but why do you hate the kid – and don’t tell me you don’t cause it’s obvious to everyone who frequents these here parts. Grow up dude.

  55. yrbndr Says:

Wow! A lot of dislike for MG here… He was drafted where he was to possibly mature into the starting QB and more likely a competent backup which he was! Obviously he was not going to beat out JW and fortunately JW is incredibly durable. MG will get a nice contract in the market. Personal attacks are laughable and he will be laughing to the bank!

  56. tickrdr Says:

Congrats to tmaxcon, who remains the biggest hater on JBF. Honorable mention to Buccaneer Bonzai though. It must be galling to both of you to know that with the stroke of a pen, that the very next contract this young man will sign will probably be for more money than you either of you have earned in your entire lives up to this point, especially since he is has so little talent, compared with the likes of you. While I have never met the young man, nor have I ever done any formal testing of his cardiac function, I suspect he has plenty of “heart” to have performed as an athlete at the collegiate, let alone the NFL level. Finally, a huge “hat tip” to all of the posters, especially the JW3 fans, who have at least acknowledged that MG3 has been a loyal soldier, and solid teammate, who has accepted his role nobly, regardless of what you may think of his athletic or quarterbacking ability. I wish him continued success in the future.

    tickrdr

  57. Pickgrin Says:

tickrdr – I thought this post might bring you out of the woodwork. Will we ever see you comment here again once Glennon is playing for another team?

  58. cmurda Says:

    @tmax

You my dude and all. I always appreciate rapping with you and Bonzai. I don’t label you or Bonzai a hater. There are haters on here but I feel like you guys just say how you feel. Here’s the thing though. You can’t go on and on about how M8 sucks and could never win a starting job while simultaneously ripping Licht for not trading him and fleecing a team. Did it ever occur to you that other teams realize he’s backup material and aren’t going to offer anything but a low level pick? Licht knows we likely get a 4th or 5th rounder comp pick so why would he trade him for less than that? Plus, he’s a more competent backup than what most teams not named the Cowboys have.

  59. FLBoyInDallas Says:

Hate to burst bubbles but Glennon is in no way a “super backup”. He’s just an average backup QB in the NFL. Nothing more. Some team may pay him a decent contract and make him their starter, but he won’t be a starter for more than a single season. He’ll be next year’s poor man’s version of Brock Osweiler. No doubt about it.

  60. satchseven Says:

he deserves his shot i would like to see it

  61. D-Rome Says:

Tyrod Taylor will never be a star but he’s not the reason why the Bills are a bad football team. Mike Glennon would not be an improvement for the Bills. More like a lateral move.

Still, Glennon is better than a few starting QBs out there.

  62. BucinJAX Says:

Wow! 60 comments so far. Good to know we have so many experts so willing to share.

  63. Poor Glennon Says:

Who wants to bet me that Glennon will have a better comp % than Winston. How ironic is it that in a shootout Winston is too inaccurate to Win consistently. But as a game manager he is improving. Oh ya thats right there is a new caption checkdown in town!!!!

  64. NCBuc Says:

Far from a nut hugger there tmax. Just one person tired of your off the wall speeches about players and your no knowledge ass

  65. NCBuc Says:

tmax…… Keyboard GM of the year! Hope to hire you soon!
