December Woes Still Loom

December 23rd, 2016
No use for Bucs history.

No use for Bucs history.

Yes, it is December and it has been a rare December.

No, not because it has been summer-like in Florida of late, with a day or two of reprieve. More like the Bucs are winning in December.

Entering this month, the Bucs were 3-18 the past five Decembers. Brutal.

Partially because of last year’s meltdown that saw Lovie Smith get the boot, and partly because the Bucs were so successful on first down last year (but not this year), Koetter again distanced himself from Bucs teams of the past and suggested the past has nothing to do with the present. Again.

“First off, last year was last year, okay and this year’s this year,” Koetter said. “One thing you’ll find in the NFL is you’re turning a third of your team over every year. So, rarely does it have carryover unless you’re keeping all your guys together.

“First down is the most important down. Third down [is important], but what you do on first down determines how long you’re in on third down and we haven’t been doing as well as we need to the last few weeks, but that’s something that can change at any game. We’ll certainly be trying to do our best on that this week.”

This isn’t the first time Koetter has been open about his distaste for referencing the past. Recently, Koetter mentioned he doesn’t live in the past. OK, fair point.

Joe is hoping Koetter does look to the past, if for no other reason than to gain further encouragement to not duplicate it.

Always remember, those who ignore the past are doomed to repeat it.

no worries, 90% of the content here deals with the past. William Ghoulston’s father passed this Friday so the Bucs will be playing with conviction for Will.

Well seems like all of our games are in warm weather places this December. I’m assuming part of our struggles in December in the past might have had something to do with travelling to colder places where our Florida team wouldn’t be as used to it.

  3. Buc believer Says:

The difference between this year and last year is Lovie dovie is screwing up Illionoise football and not the Bucs anymore.

  4. Negative Jeff Says:

Bad news Bucs Fans. Bucs will lose big to the Saints in NO. Once out of the playoffs, demoralized, they fall to the Panthers at home. Mark the tape. And the culprit, the O-line. Bucs need to upgrade the line to protect JW. Foolish if they do not use high draft picks on O-line. All that matters in football is the O-Line, D-Line and the QB. Keepers on the O-Line – Marpet and Phamphile. need a bigger, more powerful center, and must get a competent RT. LT, verdict still out on him. I do appreciate his durability but seems to lack athleticism at times.

You learn from history, but do not dwell on the past. I think that is koetter’s way of thinking. No need to keep talking about it and bringing it up. The past successes and failures of past teams (most of which he was not apart of) have no impact on this team now or in the future. Sure we have sucked historically in December (or really any month, we do hold an overall losing record as a franchise)

Joe doesn’t want to repeat past mistakes but is celebrating the US getting into another nuclear arms race with Russia. Go figure.

    🙁

First, where did Joe ever write that? Answer: Never. Not cool to concoct fiction and claiming Joe is the author.

Second, since you brought up the subject, how did the first one turn out?

You are coming close to breaking one of the high tenants of Crimes Against Joe. For your sake, do not go there.

@Negative Jeff … ‘Bucs will lose big to the Saints in NO.’ You’re a veritable ray of sunshine during this Christmas season Jeff. Just can’t understand why anyone would label you as Negative Jeff. Oh wait, yes I do.

Let’s quit living in the past. This is a new era of Bucs ball!

  10. Buccfan37 Says:

I’m not feeling a Buccs win either. I’d be overjoyed with a win though.

Cmon Joe, just a poking a little fun at your politics 😜

Here in my little Costa Rican beach town you almost always get the Dolphins instead of the Bucs. But I’m saving all my lunch money so I can go to our most excellent sports bar, Sharky’s, where they have lebendyleben screens and a very kind and accommodating host. Helps to actually see the play…

“You learn from history, but do not dwell on the past. I think that is koetter’s way of thinking.”

Keep the focus on this moment and this game, not looking over you shoulders at what has already happened in the past. Yes! learn the lessons from the past but do not over work them. Bring one foot up and down next foot up and down, always moving forward maybe a little sideways now and then but always forward never backwards.

I think we go into the big bad Mr. Brees’s house and kick their battered door down. Bashing and smashing all over their house. Our whole team should be P!ssed we just lost again! on national TV. It has to stop someplace and this will be the week. Battered, Bruised, Busted, Yeah, but never Broken.

    Go Bucs!
    28-13 Good guys win!

  14. RustyRhino Says:

Tough call Jim! I hear it is a beautiful place full of wonders and beauty around every curve. Have a Shot of Rum or two for me.
    Go! Bucs!

The Saints game is a winnable game. We have to obviously play a good game on both sides of the ball, but we can do this. Just imagine if we win and the Falcons lose hoe huge the season finale will be! Let’s keep it rolling. Man , New Orleans Bloody Marie’s have me in a really positive mood. LOL

  16. Brent Says:

@Negative Jeff. so the bucs just lost by 6 to the best team in the NFC at there place . and you expect us to believe they will get blown out versus a under .500 saints team??? Lol .

  17. Lord Corn Says:

Wtf is going on here? Nuclear arms race?

I’m day drinking right now and dreaming of a bucs victory tomorrow. Gonna be making Cuban sandwiches with bread from a shop here in Denver that gets everything from Miami. I want to channel the Tampa cuisine for good vibes

Let’s go! F*ck Drew Brees and F*ck the aints! This is our time – why not us?

  18. rayjay1122 Says:

Negative Jeff is just a troll. Ignore his regurgitation of thoughts.

  19. Fred E. Buc Says:

Too many Bucs fans with defeatist attitudes. This is just a little bit of adversity and we all know the Bucs faced that plenty of times this year already with a decimated D line. Remember wins in CAR and SF with major injuries? It wasn’t pretty but they got it done. NO is the top pass O but they are not in great shape either in a couple areas. They are 3-4 at home this year. That’s not exactly “h my God!” time. Don’t forget the Bucs have the x factor-a realistic shot as post season. Were you whiners saying “Oh I just don’t “feel it” Joe” The same little girls who put the Bucs in loss column before the Seahawks, Chargers, and Chiefs games? Yeah, they can lose. And they can win too. For God’s sakes…have some confidence in your local team. Enjoy the ride either way. They’ve done some amazing stuff. Maybe it’s the military background in me, but too many of you guys crying about a loss that hasn’t happened yet are weak weak weak. Thank God you don’t defend the nation.
