Delousing Long Overdue

November 11th, 2016
Sweeping roster changes may be needed.

Sweeping roster changes may be needed.

Yes, the Bucs are 3-5. You play for the playoffs or the draft (sorry, Herm).

Could the Bucs make it to 8-8 and maybe have a prayer of sneaking in with a wild card? Sure. Hey, the Dixie Chicks still could implode somehow, too.

But Joe has to get something off his chest here. It’s really bugging Joe.

Last year we heard America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, pound the podium and state for all the world to hear: if his teammates cared as much about winning as his coaches, the Bucs would be a force.

This year, twice, Bucs coach Dirk Koetter has talked about a losing culture in the locker room. Since the Atlanta loss, Koetter spoke openly about how he needs to find a way to motivate players, to reach some of his players. Professionals!

Yesterday, Bucs defensive coordinator Mike Smith said part of the reason the Bucs have been roasted on defense is bad effort. Even the great Derrick Brooks, on the field for his old teammate John Lynch’s jersey retirement ceremony last week, said he could see defenders loafing. For Brooks he must wanted to vomit right on the sidelines.

Joe’s had enough of hearing this s(p)it! Joe’s not suggesting coaches, players and Hall of Famers pipe down. No, sir.

The culprits need to be called out. Joe’s just sick of how these gutless clowns stay on the roster to infect the locker room. These guys are worse than the MRSA.

The season is not over. Not yet. Joe understands Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht can’t start throwing guys overboard in early November. But damn it to hell, this losing culture crap has to come to an end!

As Joe stated this week, Licht should call Jameis into his office after the season, hand him a pen and ask Jameis to jot down the numbers of the quitters on a legal pad, and then Licht would walk out of the office to provide Jameis’ privacy.

After Licht returns an hour later, he should then go about trading or cutting the SOBs.

Joe is going to quote Bear Bryant about quitters (and if you are loafing and not giving effort, you are a quitter):

“The first time you quit, it’s hard. The second time, it gets easier. The third time, you don’t even have to think about it. … There’s one thing about quitters you have to guard against – they are contagious. If one boy goes, the chances are he’ll take somebody with him, and you don’t want that. So when they would start acting that way, I used to pack them up and get them out, or embarrass them, or do something to turn them around.”

Joe likes both Licht and Koetter and is confident they are/will do a solid job with the Bucs. But delousing the locker room of these quitters has to be Objective No. 1 in the offseason.

Depending who these frauds are, they already Pearl Harbored one coach (Lovie Smith) with their shameful ways and, perhaps, Lovie wasn’t the first coach they tanked for (hello, Greg Schiano).

Mr. Licht, Coach Koetter, if you don’t get rid of these diseased souls, they indirectly will get rid of you.

The roster is being turned over as quickly as possible!!! Some of us this past offseason were already talking about “the real core” that are in their 1st, 2nd, and 3rd year!!!!!!

I have a feeling that if Joe did see the list of names, he would freak over a couple of the names!!! If Joe is really serious about a “delousing” than there will be an honest look at every player, with a price tag to trade!!!!! Will see if some “fans” could actually stomach that!!!

  2. Tampa Tony Says:

McCoy and David both might benefit from a change of scenery

Gonna take awhile to turn this mess around

  3. JMN Says:

First 2 on the list are McCoy and David. Both are serial loafers. So tired of them disappearing when the game is on the line.

  4. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Here is the problem……you could have a great player like LVD loafing and it’s not easy to see because he is so talented and does make great plays…..and then you could have a mediocre player like Conte working his a$$ off and still failing…..the the end result of this is losing.

By the way…..LVD shouldn’t get a pass…..he hasn’t played well since Kwon showed up.

  5. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Speaking for Pablo

“Delousing brings back bad memories for Pablo. Pablo wishes some of his chicas & putas had been deloused. Pablo woke up with a problem several times……FYI, Pablo doesn’t reccommend ligter fluid to solve that problem”

  6. The Buc Realist Says:

    @Tampabaybucfan

I listened to Coach Smitty press conference and he was asked about LVD54, and he said while he is not playing well, that he is “nick’d up” !!!! Which is unusual because the coaching staff hardly ever mentions injuries!!!!

not an excuse, because we have to many players that are always hurt, an the “if” and “when” healthy they are a good player is wearing thin in these parts. But was something to keep note of!!!!!!!

  7. Louis Friend Says:

LVD would be tops on my list of underperformers. What happened there? Since he got his new contract he’s been average to below average. He’s not worth the money and I don’t know what they’d be missing if they traded him. Anyone can give up a TD and look around like they’re dumfounded about what just happened.

On the other side of it, they just aren”t very good. Period. Licht is on the hot seat next year. It’s on him.

  8. FortMyersDave Says:

The Buc Realist Says: “I listened to Coach Smitty press conference”. Remember it is a press conference, you think this guy is going to out all the shenanigans that are going on to a reporter? Something is wrong with #54 but hopefully he shows up and does something productive like KNOCK Cutler out of the game which would give the Bucs a fair chance of winning. Cutler could score 40 on this D but his backup perhaps only 24, Winston and company can score in the 24 to 30 range, do the math Coach Smith, have your D give the bucs a chance of winning….

  9. Fire the glazers Says:

I’ve been on here to say that the list will be shocking, surprising, gasp worthy. And I can say with some certainty, based solely on my observations that Lavonte David, Verner, McCoy, all WRs not numbered 11 or 13 are quoted. Yet how do you justify parting ways with guys who have banners on the side of RayJay? Especially when 2 GMs, and three coaches have vouched for some of these guys? I’m ready for the purge.

  10. DallasBuc Says:

Remind me again who staffs this roster?
    “Get him outta here”

  11. Bob in valrico Says:

Can’t replace anybody till you get somebody better. Many of our replacements
have not worked out.Up to Jason Licht to fix this,he has to be more successful in free agency. All you have to do is look at RG3 and his too close relationship with the owner and the disruption he caused for the coach and team,to see
that no player should have a pipeline to management or ownership.
Let the coaches and Gm and decide who is not making the proper effort.
Jameis sole focus should be on being the best player he can be.

  12. Tampa Tony Says:

Gotta get the Rockstar’s losers out of here ASAP

  13. Defense Rules Says:

Sorry Joe, but your recommendation of getting Jameis to turn on his teammates ain’t gonna happen … he’d never do that. Nor would it ever come to that. Koetter & Smitty & the position coaches are highly experienced coaches and can surely tell who’s not giving 100%; they don’t need Jameis to do that for them. But the Bear was right on: losing can beat down individual players and ultimately a whole team if you allow it to.

I’m a huge Bama fan (my wife went to college there and she’s a rabid fan … ’nuff said?). In their most recent game against LSU, BOTH teams played incredible defense (I loved it). BOTH teams had solid players at virtually all positions on defense (as well as excellent depth), and they were BOTH obviously very well coached, as well as BOTH teams being determined & highly motivated. BOTH teams have superb winning traditions. The margin of victory was very small, and ultimately went to the team (in my opinion) which made the least mistakes.

Therein (I think) lies the problem with the Bucs. The margin of victory every week in the NFL is typically very small. The things (like talent & determination) which allow you to consistently succeed & establish a winning tradition are missing right now. Bucs consistently are the team that makes the most mistakes then can’t recover from those mistakes. We’ve got a good coaching staff. We just need to put a bigger, better, faster, meaner product on the field and then establish a winning tradition. It can be turned around I’m convinced, but not overnight.

  14. tmaxcon Says:

Team will not win consistently until mccoy is gone… The real question is can LVD be saved and with each passing day he is on the same team with the quitting ice cream man it gets less likely

  15. gotbbucs Says:

An example needs to be made. I’m all for sending McCoy down the road, but they won’t do it this offseason. They need to replace him while he’s still on the roster.

No more signing of big name FAs either. We need the guys that are looking for prove it deals not the guys that are looking to be the highest paid player at their position.

They’re two good drafts and probably three years away from being a good football team.

  16. LakeLandBuc Says:

Licht need to do a better job at drafting players. Koetter need to show some confidence in the players. Licht need to do a better in free agency. Koetter need to do a better job with clock management. Overall Licht need to do a better job with personnel, and Koetter need to do a better job with motivating players. From what I see on the field, the players are not motivated, they lack confidence. It starts at the top, not at the bottom. We need better personnel and better coaching.

  17. FortMyersDave Says:

LakeLandBuc Says: “Koetter need to do a better job with clock management.” It mazes me that he has not designated someone as a clock management specialist who can simply jump up to a ref and call a T if Jameis has a brain fart and forgets to spike the ball or someone else does something inept like failing to get out of bounds in the 2 minute drill that allows seconds to tick off and seal loss after loss! If us fans in the stands can yell for a TD shouldn’t someone on the sidelines have the cojonnes/ common sense to call one when the team is doing its usual late game flame out??????

  18. Chris Says:

I saw LVD obviously jogging than walking towards a tackle being made. That tight there showed me all I need to know about LVDs effort and why he’s down near the bottom as far as tackles made.LVD and McCoy both. Although, unlike others here, LVD is now number one on my hit list to go

  19. The Buc Realist Says:

    @ftmyersdave

there is a clock management coach that is on the headsets!!! But some think it is a huge problem from something almost 7 weeks ago!!! The question I ask is, is it a timeout problem??? or that fact the offense ran 5 plays after the so called mistake, that starting on the 15 yards line and could not get over the goal line???

  20. Arealbucsfan Says:

I watch McCoy and I still effort from him. It’s LVD who I see no effort from. I’m down with trading the guy if this continues

  21. LakeLandBuc Says:

Our last game against the Falcons, Will Gholston sacked Matt Ryan with 32 seconds left at the Falcons 38 yard line. Instead of Koetter using a timeout, to setup a possible block punt or return. He decides to let the clock run out and go into the locker room with timeouts. If i’m a player, I would refuse to bust my ass for a coach like this.

  22. The Buc Realist Says:

    @lakeland

he was protecting the defense that had played a game and a half worth of snaps just 96 hours ago and they were already losing the time of possession!!!! It was the right call to head to the locker with the score 14 to 20!!!! since the running game/offense was not keeping them off the field!!!!

How do you think rushes the punt????

  23. Bucamania Says:

LVD is the worst offender. I’m done with him. The safeties try hard, they just suck.

  24. 813bucboi Says:

@LAKELAND….YOUR RIGHT AND I 100% AGREE…..you have to give your players a chance….put them in position to be successful….

@realist….when are you going to stop making excuses for dirk?….even dirk admitted that he f’ed up by declining a penalty that had he accepted, it would’ve pushed the falcons back…its these type of f’ups that make players lose confidence….if dirk quits on the team, its expected the team will quit on dirk….

im against the whole shipping off players thing….bring in a coach that is well respected, demands respect, has creditability, and knows simple coaching 101 duties we should’ve have a problem….good coaches don’t let talent walk out the door….as bear Bryant said,”embarrass them, or do something to turn them around.”….

    DIRK=JIM TOMSULA!!!!…GO BUCS!!!!

  25. evolvingBucfan Says:

i ABSOLUTELY love your passion Joe!!!! we just need that passion in these loafers heads!!!

one bad apple spoils the bunch, thought we would see improvement after Assj
    left, i was wrong.

  26. I'm tired and 87 is right Says:

For this team to turn the corner we have to rid of the fat. I have a feeling I know who the loafers are and quite honestly I would be fine to take a step back to then take two steps forward. If you don’t have that ferociousness on game day then you just shouldn’t be on the field. Don’t go asking the other player who his auntie is doing in the middle of the game. Come on man! You disrespect all past football players with that crap! We need more guys like Brooks and Lynch in this locker room. Cut the fat! Go Bucs!

  27. j$mac Says:

Theres a huge split within this franchise right now and its all across the board has become fingerpointing garbage. Im seeing all through the media of our organization seriously even our HOFers are doing it. This organization is losing off of pure Karma of screwing good ppl over. Its a lot of players over the hill on this team like Ayers,Smith , and Grimes and i think thats what Barber,Lynch, and Brooks have been talking about personally i think. We have Spence who is showing up every week not getting more coaching put into him but instead getting played week after week with the Robert Ayers card when he should be coming off the Bench for special situations instead of the younger Spence and i know hes hurting with bicep injury i hear any wrong move would end his season too but reward him and his effort for playing thru injury with more time and Gholston should be getting notoriety as well but the Ayers card comes back at him too. Ayers is playing his last good year of football and hes banged up why are they forcing the issue with him. Then at reciever there are some guys who can perform and the coaching staff proves that when they find their guys from Atlanta but no one else is getting a shot. I mean our emergency plan at the momoment is if Freddie Martino can finish getting developed from Atlanta fame folks.
Bad decisions in the offseason as well because everyone knew Pamphile was capable of being and is now on his way to being a Pro Bowl player but you go out on Pete Carroll and sign Sweezy who has yet to even grace a practice jersey folks and probably never will in the league again im hearing on him. That money couldve been saved all together but then you go out there draft more lineman when we clearly are set on the offensive line maybe needing to replace at center and i think at RT too because Dotson is another one of those guys who i think is old and needs to showed the door or the bench after this season because no one player has contributed to the dumb end of the losing than Demar Dotson who just got more money as well when they couldve gotten off the hook from him terrible move by Licht to spend $30 million at positions that didnt need it like LG,RT, and even at defensive end because i dont like Ayers or his contract either because Ayers plays into that same losing persona we have to me. All he does is talk and try to steal fame hes a huge cancer and hes only good for one more year i say sub him around the front the rest of the season. Daryl Smith should be a coach the way hes played and to think they cut a lot of good LBs like Rhodes and Mckinzy too just to justify his signing when Daryl Smith shouldve been a preseason cut. Again another situation of good guys getting screwed in Tampa lately. How bout J. Banks though how he just fell from favor i mean he didnt even play bad at all and was never given another shot just to justify the Alterraun Verner signing. Verner is a player who should be off this team because he clearly only thrives in 3-4 front as opposed toa 4-3 front but Verner still has good football left just not in Tampa. Verner shouldve been traded for a seventh round pick instead of the homegrown talent Banks. Banks will bite us trust me on that one totally screwed up the trade deadline so we gotta GM who cant work the market who is only good at drafting because his drafts have been great Licht knows championship players trust me Kwon Alexander,is a huge find and Ali Marpet was a huge find as well along with Kevin Pamphile. Then that makes him hold on to his players too long like Sims he should be gone and out the league after this season. Somd clearly cannot play his position in the nfl so why not cut him draft Dalvin Cook first up and save ourselves from this Martin injury bug thats about to be which is one more move. Doug Martin wouldve been franchised this season hands down if a real GM were in charge instead of a glorified director of scouting like Jason Licht is and has now proven to be. Why is Chris Conte still on the team may be as mysterious as racism or something because Keith Tandy is clearly better than him plus Conte is another one of those old guys that needs to be off this team. He loses games week after week just like Demar Dotson does just like Johnathan Banks did but Banks always made up though because he is talented and shouldve been coached more but hey who knows what is going behind closed doors with the secondary but i know this $30 million later and a first round draft pick the first round draft pick and Banks looked better in the two or three years time that they have spent on that position alone the secondary that gave up 1,000 yards alone.
To answer your question who are the losers. here is the list JOE:
    Alterraun Verner
    Chris Conte
    Brent Grimes
    Daryl Smith
    Demar Dotson
    Evan Smith
Charles Sims (all the mistakes hes made on the field)
Robert Ayers( hey we have Spence and Gholston can draft his replacement)
    JR Sweezy(somebody gotta pay him)
Vincent Jackson ( its been a great ride come back cheaper and hes a keeper for one or two more)
A lot of these moves can be made tommorrow and we would make the playoffs but in the draft we need this order here: WR,RT,RB,SS,FS,CB,DE,LOLB. Those are the exact needs for this team to be great but too be good get those guys on that list off the team off the field to be a playoff team this season. ###TurnTheShip

I vote for Jameis. It’s obvious the TB media is scared or far too well informed (yea that’s the ticket) to call out McCoy so let’s put it on Jameis and LVD. Please trade these two away from this epic franchise so they can go destroy another team’s chances of winning. Please please please bc you guys deserve so much more.

    P.S.
For anyone saying LVD is the problem please see Mike Smith press conference from yesterday at Bucs dot com. He explains that LVD’s role is now to free up the MLB to make the tackle. Which is completely idiotic. That’s why you see a huge drop off bc he’s being asked not to make tackles but to take on blocks. He’s basically an expensive decoy. Which may or may not be the direct cause for LVD’s goose egg performance.

But what do I know I’m just a stupid, ignorant, McCoy hating troll. Please carry-on.

  29. BigHogHaynes Says:

That would not be a good thing to do! You don’t pit players against each other!! Licht is in CONTROL …do your job and let the players play ……and your ALL/WORLD STAFF do whatever it is they were hired to do!…8 games to play with 6 games to win to show improvement over the last REGIME! THE CONSPIRACY CONTINUES TO RUN DEEPER!……..this blog was too funny, pitting a player against his team mates (disaster in the making)….COACH THE LOVIE OUT OF THEM! ALL WORLD COACHING STAFF (my ass)!!

  30. America's Commenter Says:

Dirk should play to win. Even these allegedly meaningless games down the stretch will go on his Win/Loss record and he will be held accountable at some point. A strong second half of this season would also be a great head start on the 2017 season. Teach these guys to win now so that they can hit the ground running next season. Kinda like Tony Dungy’s first and second seasons 20 years ago.
