Major, positive shakeup in playoff position

Sound the trumpets! The Bucs won a home game!

And they won it easily.

Bucs fans deserved it, and the entire Tampa Bay roster needed to show the world they don’t belong lumped into the NFL stink pot with the Browns and Jaguars.

Your Bucs, in fact, are now 4-5 and very alive in the playoff hunt. The Saints (4-5) and Carolina (3-6) both lost — and they face each other Thursday night. Atlanta (6-4) fell to the Eagles.

Great t see the Bucs pitch a complete game, from Chris Conte at the back of the Bucs’ defense, to the defensive line turning up the pass rush, and across the aisle to America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, delivering a dominant performance.

Man, the D-line was lively with Noah Spence (a sack and a forced fumble) rushing off the edge with Robert Ayers (1 1/2 sacks and a safety). And Ayers did his share of damage off the right edge, too. Brand new DE Ryan Russell, just promoted from the practice squad, even got in on the act. Clinton McDonald (one sack) return to the field seemed to make a difference early.

Joe is giving a standing ovation to offensive line coach George Warhop for having rookie Caleb Benenoch, a fifth-round pick, ready to step in and start today for injured Kevin Pamphile.

Jason Licht has done a stunning job retooling the O-line since the dreadful mess of 2014.

Benenoch was solid without the benefit of a veteran center to guide him and cover for him during the game. After Evan Smith hurt his knee in the first quarter, the Bucs had to turn to Ben Gottschalk, who was just promoted to the roster and hadn’t ever taken a regular-season snap.

Savor this, Bucs fans. It doesn’t happen often around here.

And to sound like Joe, we are in the middle of the wildcard chase!

  2. D-Rome Says:

It feels good to see the Bucs win! It’s not often the Bucs beat a relatively healthy team so handily.

  3. Bucsroony Says:

    Falcons are 6-4 joe

Great victory… I was impressed with gholston’s effort. Dotson and d smith did thier best to help bears today. That needs to be addressed sooner than later

Ughhhhh those losses to the Rams and raiders are really hurting right now. But time to grind and get a big road win next week against the Chiefs. Need a statement win.

Tough day for the get-rid-of-winston, play-glennon, fire-Licht/Smith/Koetter trolls. Maybe they’ll get lucky when we go on the road to play KC.

You seen him make a tackle on a WR ten yard downfield? Nasty.

  9. Warrenfb12 Says:

Didn’t think the o line was good today. Jameis was special today.

Will jameis win it in tampa?…the gm will have to add players to help him

39 games till jameis free agency

  12. Stpetebucsfan Says:

I’ve now come to the conclusion that Noah Spence is the real deal. He was coming off the edge like his hair was on fire!!!

And what a great day…nothing to report about Roberto Ohnono. That means he had a great game.

  13. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

It was against a horrible team.

A win is a win, but playoff talk is silly. That will only lead to yet another let down for fans.

Best to just take it one game at a time as fans, just like the players.

  14. Brad Says:

We apologize if Bears were injured in the making of this Movie : )

  15. C-rock Says:

I saw something new today, the Bucs didn’t let go of the pedal like they always do. They kept on scoring! I hope they keep on doing that.

  16. Chris Says:

St Pete I agree. This only on third down crap , I hope they’ve gotten rid of. Need to give the other team the threat of Spence coming on every down

  17. Brent bull/buc Says:

    #55Brooks
I’ll always believe it was because he spoke up and called out this team. If you lose to a better team that day so be it. But damn you better being it!!!
#57 needs to be out there more, in my fan eyes anyways lol. He’s getting his feel for the game. #93 SHOWED heart today! I’m impressed by today’s EFFORT

  19. LifeOfABucFan Says:

    @WhatdaBuc…total agreement…

  20. Buccfan37 Says:

Nice home win, any win is good. This was the 57th meeting between these two teams, the most against any Buc opponent. The Bears were favored in this game?

  21. Bob in valrico Says:

Gritty game by Jameis ,after the first couple of drives ,he kept the offense
rolling and extended some drives ,overcame some penalties to extend drives and control the clock.
Grimes played a pretty good physical game today, glad to see it.
Collectively the D-line played their best game .
Conte INT changed the momentum of the game.

  22. Dreambig Says:

It was a nice day but I agree with others we need to keep it in perspective. Dodson is a mess and we could do some nice addition by subtraction by him leaving the team after this season. His penalties today could have cost the game if Bucs were playing a better team. The next 5 weeks are absolutely brutal schedule wise. I can easily see us going 2-3 during that span which will put us at 6-8 after the next 5. We will be extremely fortunate to finish this year 8-8.

  23. Chrisco4BUCS Says:

Dotson has to go, he’s too tall to play RT

  24. Shadow man Says:

Such a joke. Three days ago everyone saying they could see this team not winning another game etc. Now, ohhh uhh durr 6-8 wins..playoffs. You guys are sick

We are learning how to compete. Wait til we actually learn how to win

  25. German Buc Says:

What a great win! I really hope it turns down the negativism around some of the fans out here. And now all together: GO BUCS!!!
