Brett Favre Arrives

The ol' gunslinger arrives eight years later.

The ol’ gunslinger arrives in Tampa eight years late.

Serious fans know Team Glazer and the Bucs’ brass did everything in their power to have Brett Favre play quarterback for the Bucs in 2008.

It was so, so close.

Chucky was desperate for Favre, who he knew well, and Favre knew Chucky’s offense. Team Glazer had signed off on ponying up the massive cash to sign Favre.

But the Packers, at the 11th hour, refused to let Favre land the NFC. And he went to the Jets before leading the Vikings to the cusp of the Super Bowl.

The Bucs were left with Chucky playing mix and match with Jeff Garcia and Brian Griese en route to a 9-3 record and a 9-7 finish that got Chucky fired after the 2008 season. (And Gruden was still crying about that this week!)

Enter America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston. BSPN.com has shared a stunning Jameis stat that links him to Favre in an amazing way.

The last player with more touchdown passes on throws outside the pocket in a season was Brett Favre, who had 11 in 2009, according to ESPN Stats & Info. Nine of Winston’s 10 touchdown passes outside the pocket have come when pressured, which is more than any other quarterback in the league this season and since at least 2009.

Let that sink in.

So Jameis’ work outside the pocket is this outstanding, only comparable to Favre? Where’s Russell Wilson and Aaron Rodgers in the data? Stunning!

Just wait until Jameis has more weapons with which to work.

**On a side note, history is a fun thing. If Favre was with the Bucs in 2008, then Chucky surely doesn’t get fired, and there’s no drafting of Josh Freeman and no too-early promotion of a too-young Raheem Morris to head coach, and Derrick Brooks might have played two more seasons.

with a stat like that, I don’t know what will help jameis more….an 2 tackles or 2 wr’s…..GO BUCS!!!

If chucky didn’t get fired there would be no JoeBucsFans.

That firing was the big firestarter for bucs fans to log online and discuss the franchise. I think by that time the official buccaneer forums were close to being finished.

worst gm in the league licht couldnt see what every fan could see is that jameis needed players around him, they (the bucs) already knew asj was a turd and had to have know that vjax was on the decline….licht is sole person responsible for the bucs kind of treading water this year

“A cross between Big Ben and Brett Favre. That’s what I have Jameis whittled down to in my mind. Many people have said Big Ben, no one has mentioned Favre.”

“I say Favre, because Winston’s not afraid to throw it like Favre. He takes chances like Favre. Might throw a lot of picks in one game, but he will win it in the end. Favre was never afraid of throwing a pick…always trying to fit balls in tight spaces.”

    “We’ll see.”

The power of 87 compels you…lol

That play on Sunday when Jameis was running around about 15 yards behind the line scrimmage and nearing a safety in the end zone before launching it to Evans.

How many of you were screaming Jameis GET RID OF IT!!!? I know I was.

That, that was Favre-like. He must have drove Packer’s fans crazy.

Jameis throws the ball away like once every 3 games.

  9. buccfan305 Says:

Everything unfolded the way it was supposed to….thats why we have Jameis

    Thank God!!! GO BUCS!!!!

Still Pissed the Glazer’s let their ego’s get in the way. Lost one of the best coaches in the game and still have not recovered.

  11. Louis Friend Says:

buccfan305 – I’d give up Jameis in a flat second if that meant avoiding the 6 seasons of misery and counting we’ve had since Gruden was fired. Any fan here would too.

  12. Birdman Says:

Everyone go search “Corey Davis WMU highlights ” on YouTube. Seriously I’m gonna be here banging this drum until draft day. All he does is take screen passes for TDs.. Licht should be able to take a good hard look at him during the senior bowl too.

  13. Bucsfanman Says:

Boy, I love me some Brett Favre! Dude was sick! What great company to be compared to.

@’87- I agree. Favre must’ve driven fans crazy. I was screaming “get rid of it, what are you doing?”
I probably took 3 years off my life during that play!

  14. Blake_bucsfan Says:

Don’t take this the wrong way, because i love Jameis, and legit cannot wait for Jason Licht to Continue to surround Jameis with both Offensive line and Wide Receiver talent. But you left out another stat that Brett Favre and Jameis Winston share. Both of them threw a pick 6 on their very first pass attempt. I’ve often compared Jameis to quarterbacks like Big Ben, Steve McNair, Warren Moon etc… But heck the more I think about it his is a lot like Favre as well. Bottom line, I love Jameis, and can’t wait to see this kid develop before our Eyes over the years. Our future is bright Joe, so don’t throw no more shade.

Great take. That’s exactly how it feels to me, too!
I literally laughed out loud when I read that!

When JW3 finds that balance between exuberance and technique, well…let’s just say that I’m REALLY looking forward to it.
