“Selling” On Roberto Aguayo

October 31st, 2016
Local sports anchor has seen enough.

Local sports anchor fed up.

Roberto Aguayo is driving Bucs fans mental.

It’s understandable. With a team that had so many holes, specifically defensive end and wide receiver, Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht traded up into the second round to draft… a kicker.

This put Bucs fans on edge before Aguayo, the modern day Jan Stenerud, ever stepped foot in One Buc Palace. Having already missed seven kicks of various sorts in seven games, Bucs fans have become so unhinged over Stenerud, Joe is a bit surprised there isn’t picketing outside One Buc Palace.

Joe hasn’t seen Bucs fans this incited since possibly an arse of a local radio advertising troll decided to put up billboards all over town demanding former Bucs commander Greg Schiano be fired. Joe hopes for that stunt, the a-hole who hatched the idea is now selling used flooded cars in Columbus, Ga.

Right now, the anti-Stenerud venom is akin to when the Hurt Emanuel Drop happened in the 1999 NFC title game.

Dangerous Dan Lucas of WFLA-TV Channel 8 has seen enough. On the early Monday morning broadcast of “Bucs Bonus,” favored by divorcees, security guards and drunkards of all ages, Lucas, when asked if he would buy or sell Stenerud, said he would wash his hands of him.

“Aguayo? I’m sorry. I love my Noles. But I am selling!” Lucas said. “He almost cost this team today. In the end, they wind up losing of course. They had to go for a two-point conversion to make up for his missed kick just to ensure it would be a 24-24 game.

“That’s two games now we’ve played the mathematics game. Cost them dearly in the Rams game. It nearly cost them in regulation [Sunday].”

Well, we can all sit here on the morning of Halloween and recite what a horror show Stenerud has been. He’s not going anywhere, folks. Not now.

Again, the Bucs invested a second round pick in the guy. As Joe wrote yesterday, while understanding he is comparing three different Bucs administrations, if the Bucs weren’t going to run off fellow second-round picks like Sabby the Goat and Da’Quan Bowers in their rotten rookie seasons, the Bucs sure as hell are not going to jettison Stenerud this season.

Joe is convinced Stenerud is safe through the 2017 campaign.

Bucs fans who are wigged out about Stenerud may want to walk away from their TVs on gamedays when he lines up to kick and grab a cold adult beverage (or bottle?), and load up on Pepcid AC from their favorite pharmacy.

  3. BucTrooper Says:

    “He’s not going anywhere.”

    Well he should.

    Period.

  4. lightningbuc Says:

“he almost cost this team today”

He cost them one point. Jaboo couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn, receivers couldn’t get open, dbs couldn’t cover, Koetter went turtle, but yeah, Aguayo cost them.

  5. evolvingBucfan Says:

    @D-ROME……….hahaha

  6. ndog Says:

Everyone blames the kicker who did make a field goal and an extra point but our #3 overall pick can record just one tackle and not breath on the other teams QB yet that’s ok?

  7. 813bucboi Says:

as much as I hate this kicker, you cant blame him….he missed which was expected but we over came that….the game came down to coach…again….dirk went into a shell….he had the chance to go for it twice late in the 4th quarter…once around the 1:45 mark and again around the 55second mark….he choose to punt both time, playing for OT….why rely on a guy that you just signed off the street to convert an important 3rd down….jameis has to make a better throw but that ball was catchable….that ball needs to go to everyone else besides a.smith….half way threw the season and dirk is still making simple coaching 101 mistakes….the best thing dirk did yesterday was freeze Sebastian….GO BUCS!!!!

  8. Ed Says:

The kicker, how about the safety play on this team. Each week the same junk in the safety play, to slow, can not cover and always out of position. What a joke, fire the G.M. today.

  9. ATrain Says:

The Coach our Kicker that’s who yall are blaming..HAHAHAH

How about the Number #1 pick over allll…..OVER throw TWO TD passes

McCoy the Millions Dollars Man One tackle… HAHAH

    The Coach… Really

  10. DallasBuc Says:

I seem to recall the Joes insisting that Incompetent Lovie Smith wasn’t going anywhere as his squad was tailspinning to close out the 2015 season. Remind me what happened to him again?
We have a kicker that flat out can’t kick. The only reason that he is still on the roster and being trotted out onto the field is because our idiot wannabe savant GM refuses to admit another huge blunder in favor of protecting his fragile and fevered ego. Please go jump in a pool fully clothed and forget which way is up.
Now if the JBF business partner and good buddy Jason Licht, Buccaneers General Manager told the Joes personally that AguaOh,no is not going anywhere then I would be convinced that he is safe through at least 2016.

  11. Stevek Says:

What about Gerald McCoy? Is he ok with losing? The d-line’s output sure makes it look that way.

  12. martinii Says:

TUNE out, TURN off, TIME to look TOWARD 2017. This team is TOAST.

  13. LakeLandBuc Says:

Connor Barth has made 21 of his 24 kicks with the Bears. 12-12 PAT, 9-12 FG. Good job Jason Licht, you cut Barth and traded a 3rd and 4th for a BUM kicker.

  14. Another J Says:

Janakowski was also bad during his rookie season…

I’d be more worried about the horrific play of our Safeties, They were terrible.

  15. Kent Kleist Says:

He isn’t any worse than anybody else on this group of sad sacks including the coaches. However, I would be interviewing Publix bag boys for the kicking job.

  16. lightningbuc Says:

“Now if the JBF business partner and good buddy Jason Licht”

  17. NewTampaChris Says:

The pick has been made…can’t go back in time. The Bucs aren’t going anywhere this year so let him make it through the season and give him some competition next training camp. Even so, the competitor will be some retread that some other team threw on the scrap heap.

Don’t give up too soon — Matt Bryant and Mike Nugent have outlasted many Bucs’ kickers.

  18. R.O. Says:

Seriously tired of the misses myself… but RA’s miss had no impact on the game whatsoever… and if we lost it certainly shouldn’t be looking at the kicker. The Defense and tackling were horrible yesterday. Offense was not in synch. JW3 continues to miss open receivers. Are Raiders fans yelling for SJ to be a midseason cut?

  19. BucFan20 Says:

And Robert Ayers put as much pressure on Carr as McCoy did.

  20. Silent_Partner Says:

Not gonna get fixed with him. He made 50% of kicks over 40 yards last year in college. That’s a firable offense if your GM either didn’t know that or knew it and drafted him that high anyway with all of those holes on your team.

  21. DallasBuc Says:

AguaOh,no – aka – the human point shaver

  22. Ray Rice Says:

Aunt Geraldine went out for an “It’s It” after the game. What a guy!!!!

  23. Defense Rules Says:

LakeLandBuc, I agree wholeheartedly. Trading a #3 AND a #4 pick to draft a kicker in 2nd rnd will go down as Licht’s greatest blunder, no matter how well Aguayo turns out. You just don’t do that. Had we gotten a decent safety or WR or DLineman or even a RB out of just one of those picks, Bucs would be much better off right now. If you look at Licht’s complete body of work since he came onboard in 2014, he’s made a number of very good moves (drafting Jameis, ME13, Marpet, D Smith, Kwon, VHIII plus bringing in several decent FAs like Grimes, Ayers & Hawley). But he’s had 18 draft choices and missed on quite a few (ASJ among others?), gotten rid of some valuable talent and brought in a number of questionable FAs (Anthony Collins?). Overall I’d say he rates a ‘C’ at this point in his tenure with the Bucs. Hopefully that improves over the next couple of years or we’ll be looking at more games like yesterday’s.

  24. JMN Says:

Aguayo has technically not lost any games yet on his leg but he has come close and there is no doubt in my mind that he will in the future. And when he does, especially if it is 2-3 losses directly pinned on him, you can bet your arses LIcht will bring in some kickers to tryout. His job depends on wins and losses.

  25. passthebuc Says:

Lets quit using him as a scapegoat. if Jamis could hit his targets, there would be little need for him.

  26. BigMacAttack Says:

Just tired of losing every home game year in and year out. That was my last game for a while. I’m giving my tickets to friends for the remainder. If the Bucs put up half the effort the fans did yesterday, they would have won easily. I know it’s going to take time but I’m tapping out just like our team did.

  27. JP4 Says:

Of the Bucs 4 losses, only the Rams game could arguably be pinned on Aguayo. If he makes the FG he missed in that game, and converted another at the end, Bucs could have won that one. But Cards, Broncos & Raiders? Team losses!

No way Aguayo is worth a 2nd round pick this year, but this team loses because they suck as a team, and because the coaching has sucked. Koetter saves his TO at the end of the 1st half vs Raiders…for what? Then, 2 straight runs…for what?

Time to face the HIGH likelihood that this is another 6-10 team, maybe 7-9.
As for Licht, yeah, he F’d up on the Aguayo pick, but he’s still the best drafting GM Tampa EVER had. Licht is NOT the problem.

  28. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

blame on the crappy defense and lack of players goes on licht, no #2 WR, he has made a mockery of FA since he has been here what is batting like .100 in FA, and there are colossal misses in his tenure, the dude that got the job in TN seems to have some common sense as a GM and we have licht

  29. rayjay1122 Says:

The old saying of games being won and lost in the trenches holds true. We could not open holes for a rushing attack, could not pressure the QB and could not even cover Donald Penn allowing him to get a TD pass. LOL Donald freaking Penn had more fantasy points than most of our offensive skill position players. When a QB has all day to stand in the pocket with even average WR’s then he will pick apart a secondary. So my observations of the state of our putrid pirates is that we can’t tackle well, can’t pressure the QB, can’t cover WR’s/TE’s/RB’s, can’t pass protect, cant run block, cant get interceptions or fumbles, can’t kick FG’s and the very occasional XP’s but we really can punt very well. Anger will be the only Bucs candidate for the pro bowl as our Punter is our best and most consistent player….GREAT!!!!

  30. DallasBuc Says:

Dusthty- but haven’t you been listening?…”Licht is NOT the problem”

Never mind that our so-called play makers, especially on defense, don’t make any plays. The talent level among starters and depth is woefully uncompetitive. No one can catch, pass, block, tackle, kick, etc.

Who cares that the GM is solely responsible for acquiring the talent that the HC is forced to work with, …”Licht is NOT the problem”

  31. Pit Says:

How is this lose Coaches fault. He did his mistakes but why don’t we all agree that when GMC was out or defense plays better. We McDonald back and we should trade GMC for a WR and can our bench warming CB be any better at Safety? I mean can they be any worse really?

  32. Kobe Faker Says:

“I miss jon robinson and wish he was our GM”

    Darcie glazer

    “Me too” joel glazer
    “Me three” bryan glazer
    “Me four” anvi glazer

  33. DallasBuc Says:

I wonder if I were to jump in my pool fully clothed with an unholy JBF Jason Licht Kool Ale in my hand if it would make it much easier to utter the words…”Licht is NOT the problem”?

  34. Buc'n Enough Says:

What a joke of a front office this team has been for 10 years +. Since they dumped Mckay. Just the pastdrafts have provided little starting talent and little depth.

“Rockstar” = multiple poor drafts and free agents
    2013
    Rd 1 Revis = Gone
Rd 2 Banks = Not Dressed
RD 3 Glennon = Back up QB
Rd 4 Spence = Back Up DT
    Rd 5 = Gouldson ?????

    “Barney Rubble” Licht =
    2nd rounf Bust = ASJ
3rd Pick = Sims ( never draft a running back that high that can’t run )

2nd Pick Bust = Roberto ( Count Chocula ) Aguaynooooo
4th Round Pick does not see the field ( Except returns ) = Robert Smith

And we wonder why this team performs so poorly. You draft a QB with the first overall pick and you do not provide him with the talent to succeed.
That is on Licht. He SUCKS!

  35. mdsbuc Says:

Joe, please don’t tarnish the name of the great HOF kicker. Why don’t we just call Aguayo “2nd Round Brindza.”

  36. Capt.Tim Says:

    Go ahead!
Be the typical , Dumb ass Buc fans
Bitch til they run the rookie outta town

He’ll be just like Donald Penn Yesterday
Laughing, while help kicking your asses.
He’ll be in the playoffs, while once again- we’ll be looking at the draft.

If you arent gonna give rookies time to deveolp, we might as well skip the draft.
Kid’s rookie year so far isnt any worse than Janokawski’s

Give him a year. We arent going anywhere, anyway

  37. ATrain Says:

The will to win starts in the locker room..

That’s why Jamies called out McCoy HE knows what the problem is but knows he cant fix it..

McCoy is high paid and is not going anywhere because NO team will pick him up with that pay check.. He plays a few gets hurt sits a few, makes a few plays and gets to go to the Pro Bowl…

McCoy is the PROBLEM the same poison that Raheem brought to this team is still here. .”AS long as my job is safe I don’t care…”

TRADE MCCOY get another DT with an attitude like Ayers…

    WR / RB / DT

we should be able to get one of each for Superstar McCoy

  38. bobs dog house Says:

i just don’t get it…. someone on here states that the missed extra point didnt cost us the game… last time I looked the game was 24 to 24 at the end of the 4th… um let me see… 1 plus 24 = 25… oh my… we jumped up into the second round to get a kicker, when we could have got another safety or cb or another receiver…

  39. Tony Says:

5 weeks from now this will be a non story.

  40. BigMacAttack Says:

Derek Carr was outstanding yesterday. His passes were on the money. His receivers can ball. Jameis let the wind get the best of him sailing passes with the wind at his back. His receivers are slow, run bad routes and rarely beat defenders. The Raiders’ O line is big and rough and tuff. They threw around the Bucs’ tackles and ends like rag dowels. The Raiders are good enough to overcome a slew of mistakes. Koetter has no confidence in his offense and they are losing confidence in themselves. At one point in the game the Bucs started playing dink and dunk short passes and we’re rolling, but then Dirk stopped it. I’m beginning to think our head coach is over his head here. 1:54 left in half, no timeout called, run out the clock. They were getting better but just got way worse.

  41. 813bucboi Says:

@bobsdog…..when Roberto missed the extra point the score was 16-17….we scored making it 22-17…plus 2 which made it 24-17….if Roberto made his extra point to begin with the score would’ve been 17-17….with the next score it would’ve been 23-17…with him hopefully making an extra point it would’ve been 24-17…..not sure what your referring to….GO BUCS!!!!

  42. 813bucboi Says:

    @bigmac…I agree….dirk is an oc…not an HC…GO BUCS!!!!

  43. SOEbuc Says:

I agree with everyone that is saying Licht made the dumbest draft decision in the history of time with trading up for Aguayo in the second instead of a receiver or other needed position, but you cannot go through the every draft and expect every player to be superstars. For example ASJ was the top TE on everyones draft board coming out of Oregon and he turned out to be a soft, drunken bafoon. Sh*t happens. If everyone just wants to fire a HC and GM every year (or after one crappy game) it will never work out.

  44. Silent_Partner Says:

For those saying his rookie year is as as bad as Janikowski’s you are right that h was very shaky his rookie year, but you’d also know that he was drafted to a legit Super Bowl contender. They were in the AFC championship game the year before and the kicker they had at the time lacked range and was bad at kickoff depth. You neither were a Super contender nor did you draft Aguayo for distance. You drafted him because he was accurate, despite him actually missing half of his 40+ yard kicks last year, kind of defeating the purpose of getting him for his accuracy. Thus, it’s a fail of a pick and the sooner you admit your mistake, the better. However, that’s probably going to cost Licht his job.

  45. Tom S. Says:

SOEbuc, A. ASJ played for Washington not Oregon. B. He was not the consensus number one TE that year as Eric Ebron out of UNC was a top 10 pick and plays TE. ASJ went in Rd 2. A lot of people had Jace Amaro ahead of ASJ that year as well (ESPN, NFL).

Licht passed on Jordan Matthews, Allen Robinson, Marquise Lee, Davante Adams, Timmy Jernigan and Carlos Hyde in Rd 2 for the bust known as ASJ. Just another nail in the coffin for “No Biscuit” Licht.

  46. LakeLandBuc Says:

Tom S, don’t forget about Jarvis Landry. He went to the Dolphins in the 2nd round.

  47. BigMacAttack Says:

The Bucs need to completely forget about kicking extra points and go for two point conversions every time. The risk is worth the reward especially when Aguayo is going to miss half of his kicks anyway. They just need to practice this a lot. And even if you owl convert half the time you’re still breaking even. Forget about Aguayo period and go for forth down conversions on anything less than 7 yards. Go for it and stop making excuse Dirk because what you’re doing isn’t working, like punting on 4’th and 5 in OT at the 50 yd line.

  48. BigMacAttack Says:

Koetter has no balls. Big problem

  49. SOEbuc Says:

True that Tom S. Washington not Oregon, sorry. But at that point we needed an all around TE. We drafted ME in the first that year so they probably weren’t gonna go back to back one and two WR especially with Vjax still having both kneecaps at the time.
