Raiders 30, Buccaneers 24 (OT)

October 30th, 2016

charliebrown

This one came right out of the Den of Depression playbook.

Early 10-0 lead for Tampa Bay, and then the Bucs allowed 17 unanswered points lowlighted by the Raiders taking the lead on a Donald Penn touchdown reception. Yeah, that Donald Penn.

And of course, a missed extra point by everyone’s favorite bad kicker, Roberto Aguayo, was a game-changer to say the least.

Your Bucs, now 3-4, remain winless at home and 3-16 in their last 19 games in Tampa. That’s hard to do.

The Raiders were beatable and they offered the Bucs chance after chance after chance today, but the Bucs didn’t have enough to overcome their weak pass rush and far too many bad tackles, plus costly penalties and blown assignments.

So the Bucs were gifted 22 penalties by the Raiders, and the Bucs didn’t turn the ball over, and they still couldn’t win? Jiminy Christmas!

America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, came up weak in his final fourth-quarter drive, and in overtime. His Raiders counterpart, Derek Carr, was sharp late in the fourth and in overtime. In a quarterback-driven league, that’s no recipe for winning.

Don’t look now, but the Saints (3-4) beat Seattle and Carolina (2-5) pounded Arizona.

Stick with Joe all afternoon and evening for plenty from the unhappy locker room and more.

  1. Bucs fan #7423 Says:

James Winston is not the one

  2. passthebuc Says:

    put a fork in them

  3. KoetterTheBrilliant Says:

Pathetic game by Winston. What an embarrassment for a franchise qb.

  4. Stevek Says:

This was our game to win.

Joe, where the hell was Gerald McCoy? We need him to make impactful plays in the fourth quarter.

  5. cmurda Says:

VH3 reminded me just how much of a rookie he is. Dude can’t hang with the good WR’s. He got his butt wiped on the field but mostly Dirk and his offense when it mattered flat out embarrassed all fans.

  6. BusteisWinston Says:

Busteis is not the answer. Hopefully the can get a nice haul to move him in the offseason. But he has the worst accuracy any Bucs QB has ever had. Glennon is captain checkdown, but at least he can hit a receiver within 10 yards of the line. Busteis is not worth keeping, get what you can now.

  7. Jeffbuc Says:

Dirk cost us that game with his conservative play calling.

  8. Tb501 Says:

    Not enough weapons to win.

  9. Ndog Says:

    McCoy is useless!!!!!!!!!!!!

  10. Bucsfan040 Says:

WEAK? OUR OFFENSE PUT UP LIKE 50 YARDS IN THE 4TH QUARTER AND OVERTIME! our offense was abysmal!!!!!

  11. passthebuc Says:

the opposition has 20+ penalties and you lose? I can only blame Winston. He is just not as good as you think he is, Joe.

  12. cmurda Says:

22 penalties on the Raiders and Dirk still fails to get his team to win a game at home. Let’s see Dirk’s comments about selling tickets now. Win a game at home, you bag of rocks.

  13. JMN Says:

Time to fire sell anybody who is worth anything on this team. Bucs fans, we continue to be in rebuilding mode for 10 plus years now.

  14. Bird Says:

We didn’t deserve that one. The raiders were our MVP. Pathetic. Jameis and Aguayo looked so scared. Baghdad ‘ s qb

  15. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Poor playcalling late in the game and absolutely giving too much time to Carr the entire game…..doomed!!!

  16. Mikesmithisgoingnowhere Says:

Horrible defense, no pressure all day and no adjustments.

  17. AceofAerospace Says:

I’ve never watched a Bucs game that they deserved to lose more than this one. Hang your heads tomorrow when you cash your paychecks. Not one of you or your coaches earned it.

  18. University of Seffner Says:

I have to say, even though the Bucs lost, their effort is definitely required to be respected. This team WILL turn the corner eventually! Go Bucs!!!

  19. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Where was Ayers? Spence?

It wasn’t just McCoy out there.

  20. Pelbuc Says:

Fire the whole bunch. Now who are the pretenders?? BTW, Carr is the real QB. Winston sucks!

  21. ATrain Says:

The Highest Paid Player today was Absent..

    100million dollar paper weight

    BS.

Joe it’s time to Call him OUT.
YALL SCREAM ABOIT DIRK, CONTE , JAMIES…
MCCOY IS PAID MORE THAN ALL OF THEM TOGETHER..

    HE SUCKKKKKKKSSDDXD

  22. JMN Says:

No more articles Joe about McCoy being so great! Dude was a ghost all game.

  23. FLBoyInDallas Says:

    Called it. Typical Bucs.

  24. Say What? Says:

Sorry folks, but franchise QBs are made in games like that. There was one franchise QB on the field at the end of that game and he was wearing silver and black.

And by the way… Why are Bucs DBs lining up 5- yard off the receivers on third and 4, and 4th and 4 at the end of the game? Both Carrs third down throw and 4th down throw were easy slants. Pitch and catch. Carrs third down throw was just bad, but the receiver was wide open

  25. unbelievable Says:

    No pass rush.

    VH3 manhandled.

    Jameis wildly inaccurate.

    Koetter coached scared and conservative.

Despite 200+ yards of penalties gifted by the Raiders.

  26. Doolnutts Says:

Jeffbuc are we watching the same games? The only reason why we are in any of these games are the “conservative” play calling. Winston is officially a liability. When he isn’t throwing near picks he is over throwing, we won’t bench Winston and shouldn’t but he is still learning so the next best thing is run the ball and screens whether it works or not. We won’t throwing until Winston can pull it together.

  27. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I saw McCoy make several plays. You people are blind.

  28. Blake_Bucsfan Says:

This game hurts, almost as badly as the Redskins game last year. The good lord gifted us an opportunity to seal this game when Janikowski missed that feild goal, twice… I’m shocked at how Dirk Called this game. Got way too pass happy, and yet again mismanaged the clock egresgiously . The way we let the clock run down at half-time was unsettling. And then we turn around and do the same thing at the end of the game, basically resigned us into halftime, which still almost didnt happen. We should have won this game, the Raiders practically served it up to us, And we clutch defeat from the jaws of Victory.

  29. Arealbucsfan Says:

Well I was a BIG Jameis supporter. But wow. This ish has got to stop! These overthrows and horrible accuracy is the reason why we are losing games

  30. Ed Says:

We live in Loserville. Raymond James needs to be blown up, the Bucs are horrible playing in front of their home fans.

The Raiders gave the Bucs 4 or 5 opportunities to win today and they refused the favor.

I don’t think Buc fans can stand this kind of a loss.

You really have to question the talent level of Jameis Winston, the overthrown passes are absolutely devastating.

Derick Carr was so much more of a pro than Jameis. There is no doubt he doesn’t have command of he offense. As much as Glennon sucks he would have made at least one of the overthrows. Here were 5 of them. No way a team will have a winning record without a good QB.

  31. unbelievable Says:

Watch that last play, it perfectly captures what the Bucs have been for years.

:: 2 defenders running into each other, missing the tackle, allowing the opponent to run free into the end zone to win the game ::

  32. BucFan20 Says:

And this is why people look at you like your a fool when you wear Buccaneer colors in public. Well after 40 years. Never again!!!!!

  33. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Dirk got pass happy because his only good RB got injured, people.

  34. Dan Says:

    Gutless Bucs!

  35. ATrain Says:

Bonzai what relationship are you to McCoy??

This guy gets paid Sick Money and is No Where

With that kinda of Money you get sacks.

He makes more than the whole F”*** DLine
You ask where this guy where’s that guy.

Trade this Bum if he is Sooo good then many teams want him..Go get several players..a DT a WR aDE..

    And still save money

  36. Blake_Bucsfan Says:

But this team is still very young. And I have faith in them yet. Glazers should fork up somemore dough and build a canopy around the stadium like they did in Miami. That way windy days won’t result in us not being able to throw deep. We will be fine.

  37. flmike Says:

What a bunch of whiners and crybabies, waaaaa fire the coach, waaa McCoy sucks, Winston sucks, waaa. We just don’t have the talent on offense that they do. Period end of story

  38. Pelbuc Says:

Someone please remind me how great McCoy Ayers and LVD are. Pathetic defense and offense wasn’t too far behind. Winston is way overrated. JBF, this team will always find a way to lose even when teams are handing them the game. All losers. Mike smith should be fired!

  39. MadMax Says:

Its not just the loss! Its THE WAY we lost!

Shouldve had this one….i mean they friggin set a new record for single game penalties!!!!!!

    WE HAD THIS….WHAT HAPPENED?!?!

  40. Blake_Bucsfan Says:

Bonzai that was late into the game dude. It was evident that we weren’t trying to pound the rock after being up 10 0

  41. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

“Derick Carr was so much more of a pro than Jameis.”

    Longer in the league, friend.

  42. EA Says:

SEASON is officially over, all teams in our division are playing better. With a below average QB in WINSTON, injury and coaches being out choached, Im putting this season to bed.
I really feel for fans that go to the games, coach Koetter if you gonna call the fans to come out and support you, you have to put a better effort on the field.

  43. D-Rome Says:

I’m just sad about the state of this franchise. The Raiders did everything they could to give this game away.

Also, I agree with Bonzai. GMC did not have a bad day. What do you people expect, pick 6’s or 3 sacks? Want him to drop back in coverage? He was disruptive all afternoon.

  44. Chris Says:

Sorry folks, the Bucs had nothing to compete with Raiders O. The only reason it was even close was all the ridiculous penalties they committed. The bucs are improved, but just couldn’t stand toe to toe with an elite offense.

  45. Greg Says:

Winston is horrible, 180 in five quarters(riders had more penalty yards). At least the Lightning play tonight

  46. Defense Rules Says:

Got news folks. The Bucs are officially the worst team in the NFC South. Raiders committed 200 yds in 23 penalties … an NFL record … and STILL beat us handily. Den of Depression doesn’t even begin to describe what we saw at RayJay today. What I saw was a terrible offense, a terrible defense, terrible special teams play and terrible play calling … all on the part of the Bucs. Remember that earlier article Joe suggesting that the Raiders were pretenders? Wrong. The only pretenders on the field today were Bucs.

  47. Mike Evans GOAT Says:

ZERO PASS RUSH is what did us in. Our safties suck, we need another WR and a Cb. This team is years away from contending. Us fans are stuck in this constant carousel of losing while these guys get rich off of our depression. This game was gift wrapped to us and we couldn’t take it. Dirk had the wrong rb in the game @ the end. Smith is like Sims, can’t run up the middle. Should have had Barber in the game. JW3 with to many over throws and ME13 with a key drop. Good news is Spence looked good in the first quarter but was invisible after that.

  48. Blake_Bucsfan Says:

Great point Fl mike. Crabtree and Cooper are playing phenomenally well. And Mike doesn’t really have another outside threat opposite himself.

  49. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

B, don’t rewriye history. They were running a lot up until the injury. Hence, the rushing TD.

  50. gotbbucs Says:

I’m done. There are so many things I could be doing rather than watching this sh!t show of a team.
What a joke. Really the entire NFL as a whole anymore is a joke. Kickers and refs decide games and nothing about that is entertaining.

  51. LargoBuc Says:

This offense is far from a finished product. It sucks but I don’t blame Jameis as much as I did, say, early in the year. Drops by everyone and not getting open, paired with the usual misthrows equal not being able to get a first down in ot.
Overall I liked the guts this team showed but boy do we need a reciever/tight end. It sucks that we can’t win at home.

  52. Arealbucsfan Says:

If it were us that set the record on penalties we would have been blown out the water, yet the Bucs have a team do it then and we allow them to win. This team is way to far from winning. Our best are getting to the end of their careers. Time to trade everybody except for a handful and get actual players that have toughness to play the game

  53. MadMax Says:

Want to get some value for a trade? Trade Jameis for some D players. We’ll draft his replacement 1st round!

  54. Tbbucs3 Says:

    The pass defense still suuucks

  55. LifeOfABucFan Says:

The Jude penalty is what killed the win..we would have been able to milk to clock and win it..

Either way, you cry babies..we still played very excellent ball against a top notch team..

  56. MadMax Says:

It aint working with JW3…..i know I’ll catch jit for this but is what it is…..same feeling I had when I was feeling this with Freeman. Cut the loss now LICHT!

  57. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Bucs are NOT pretenders. They nor the media never claimed to be more than they are.

  58. Chris Says:

I saw a heartless team out there. No fire, going through the motions

  59. Pete Mitchell Says:

That was not complimentary football!!! Defense was hung out to dry all fourth quarter and overtime.

  60. LakeLandBuc Says:

I need another beer and more peanuts, watching the YUCS crap the field, has me all excited. lol

  61. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    Heartless?????

Get real! They fought hard. The were NOT heartless. They just are not good enough. Yet.

  62. ChanEpic Says:

Comparing Carr to Winston in a vacuum is ridiculous. Carr has Cooper AND Crabtree. Jameis has Evans and Evans has the dropsies in bunches. Jameis has to get better, no doubt but he could get better real quick with those weapons

  63. Jim Says:

We were counting on Jameis to yell at the refs until they cowered in submission, but America’s Quarterback let us down.

  64. Not there yet Says:

An NFL record set for penalties and we still couldn’t take advantage, the corners for abused like usual and nothing was done to address weak secondary, because how often does a rookie corner change the fortunes of a defense. You simply can’t keep blaming the coach who works with what he’s given. Like last year receivers get wide open regularly and there’s zero pass rush

  65. LifeOfABucFan Says:

Whoever said they were heartless is probably the biggest eejit on this planet..probably a miserable person who has a big fat wife to go home to.

Fook off all haters…we played HARD!!!!!!!!!!

  66. Buccaneers Says:

Too much to complain about……..You know what Dirk go bleep yourself calling out the fans. I go to 1-2 games a year and its been eight years since I saw this garbage excuse of a franchise win. I’m glad I went once already, I’m not subjecting myself to this embarrassment watching us get pushed around at home……….in fact, I hope they bring back the blackouts so I have good reason to not watch at all………..This teams a joke. Dirk your lucky Tampa fans have class cause if you were coaching like this in the northeast some drunk punk fan would probably crack you in the back of the head with whatever projectile they could find. Your team is soft bro and that’s on you.

  67. Ed Says:

Not sure what game defenders of Winston saw. Winston had Evans and Sheppard at least 4 or 5 times in the game in one-on-one coverage and they beat their defenders deep and Jameis wasn’t even close with his throws.

Those plays were there to be made and Winston wasn’t even close on a couple of them. There isn’t a defensive coordinator in the league that can watch film on him and tell his defense not to worry about the deep ball, just keep the field tight and make Winston throw into tight coverage because when his receivers do out run he coverage he has no timing to be grow a catchable ball.

  68. Phred Says:

Fact is: Raiders are a better team. They had more talent on the field today. Bucs are a year or two from being a playoff team. Most important thing, even with injuries + lack of depth the Bucs are playing better than last year.

  69. LakeLandBuc Says:

200 yards in penalties, 626 yards of offense. 200 + 626= 826. WOW I never witness anything like this this in my life. Props to the RAIDERS for overcoming the penalties to score 30 points and get the win. The Raiders almost had as many yards of penalties than the SUCS had of offense.

  70. Warren Says:

Wow is this the worst fan base in the league? Going by these comments you would think so. They’re a better team with far more talent on offense and marginally more on Defense and we held them to OT. We got gut punched as a team and fought back. Coaches had a reasonably good game plan and Raiders penalties can partly be attributed to them wilting in the good old Florida sunshine. Tell me we lose this game if we had a second top flight WR the likes of Crabtree or Cooper or Evans? I’m not happy with the loss but damn if I’m not proud of the mettle this team showed. Yes we wilted down the stretch offensively. From what I’ve seen this season, the coaching staff will continue to put us in better and better positions to win and our players will continue to grow leaps and bounds. This season ain’t over. Bring on the Falcons!

  71. Jeagan1999 Says:

Here’s what I saw today….Our pass rush is lackluster at best….Carr had way too much time to throw…Winston looked tentative and inaccurate for long stretches of this game….Winston was also far too locked in on Evans on many plays, and missed some other open receivers….Koetter played it too conservative on those last couple of drives…even though they committed so many penalties, the Raiders kept battling and just wanted it more.

Sad…could have been a real confidence builder for Tampa going into a short week.

  72. Buccaneers Says:

Mike Evans played great all year. Then we get two drives to win the game and he drops a ball on each possession. He’s unreliable when it counts……….Well never win with this guy….hes a choke artist. And yeah i know he took a luck on the first one but an elite WT pulls that one in. This guy can’t be our go to guy if we an on winning meaningful game……….Thanks for letting a entire stadium down…..what else is new

  73. LakeLandBuc Says:

And i’m not hating, i’m only stating facts.

  74. orlbucfan Says:

Well, well, well, I’ve been saying it and I will say it some more: NO MORE MUSICAL HEAD COACHING CHAIRS!! How long has Del Rio been with the Raiders? The Bucs are slowly developing into a good team. Leave DK right where he is for 2 more years!! The Bucs beat themselves today cos of all the rookies including the head coach on the team. Watch us win next Thursday night. Go Bucs!!

  75. Buccaneers Says:

Great call the see Smith try and fumble the game away and keep him out there to drop the game away………Real HCs don’t allow for that.

  76. ARGH_M8E Says:

Everybody shut the F$&K up!!!! This team is garbage!!!!!!!!! I no longer care!!!!!!! I’m done. These bums ruin every Sunday.✌️️Peace out jbf

  77. JMN Says:

Rose color glasses Warren? Oakland with all their penalties is what got them to OT.

  78. The Buc Realist Says:

    @Buccaneers

so, should the coach have benched him for the 5th or 6th string RB????

  79. Buccaneers Says:

How do you let the Raiders embarrass us with the Donald Penn YD and not get mad and play with some fire………Thats poor head coaching………Dirk you have been a major letdown. Thanks for nuttin

  80. Buccaneers Says:

Yes realist or change sets……When a guy can’t handle a pressure moment you don’t leave him out there for more.

  81. Buccaneers Says:

Publix still carry brown bags BTW…..in case anybody cared to attend the games.

  82. ThunderSack Says:

I’m not going to lie. This one hurt.

Our defense hung in there for a while, but you can’t do much against that Raiders offense if your offense is going three and out consistently. Plus, the defense just did not look good in terms of pressure with our line.

We played against a better team that was having a sloppy day and we still could not win the game. At home…

Hopefully this is the wake-up call!

  83. BigStinky Says:

Every time we lose there are more excuses. Gotta get better, gotta be MORE precise, gotta eliminate the turnovers, blah blah blah . People keep on saying we need MORE playmakers when the playmaker we REALLY need is at QB. I see overthrows and inaccuracy in Jameis almost EVERY week. We should’ve won this game even though I thought we would lose it going into the game. We won the turnover battle and they missed 2 FG’s to win but we couldn’t take advantage of it. Winston is NOT clutch when it matters and wound up with a 50% completion rate (16/32 180 yards 2 TD’s). He has NEVER won 3 games in a row and had the perfect opportunity to do it today. MG8 almost won 4 games in a row AND 4 out of 5 in his FIRST year. How long is it going to take for Jameis to develop? Is he any better than Glennon? Go BUCS!

  84. SOEbuc Says:

Agreed Chris. Every time I saw Jameis on the sideline in the 4th and OT, he was rocking a face like I would expect him to have when Oakland ran in that TD.

  85. Buccfan37 Says:

Carr had all day to find the open receiver. I never felt the Bucs might win while watching. Swap QBs and the Bucs would have won, the big difference in the game.

  86. Buccaneers Says:

You can blame Winston all ya want……but he did have the ball three times for a game winning drive………
    1st drop pass………
…….2nd drop pass…………3rd drop pass………… by no means did Winston have a good game but it’s been two years now and every time he has had a game winning drive change a drop killed it……maybe not every but darn close to it……….Our receivers are a bunch of choking p***ies

  87. Buccaneers Says:

We lost this game when Penn embarrassed us and we did nothing but plAY even softer…………we are losers with loser mentality plain and simple………i demand a apoligy

  88. c-spann Says:

alot of people are mad at jw. i get it. but imo it was the bad defense that lost us the game. carr was pressured maybe 2 times in the 2nd half he had all day to throw. the def failed us

  89. Ana Says:

Inafective offense put 27 points on the board! Defense needs a stop when it counts, at the end of the game! How often can we really expect Jamies to keep bringing us back after we give up a lead?

  90. Ana Says:

Lynch, Barber, Rice, Brooks and Sapps heads must be exploding!

  91. c-spann Says:

i still believe in the team. i think the playcalling needs to be addressed on def and off. we could not get home rushing four. you would think we could have mixed in some zone blitz pressures or something

  92. JM Says:

Jameis would be Luigi to Super Mariota

  93. Defense Rules Says:

Folks can sugarcoat it all they want, but the Bucs got manhandled today. Only thing that made it a reasonably close game was the 200 yds in Raider penalties. Raiders had the ball for 15 mins more than the Bucs did. Why? Because the Bucs offense couldn’t do diddly. Our defense was on the field for 45 mins today … 45 mins. And that against a Raider OLine that thoroughly beat down our DLine. Zero pressure on Carr. On big thing I did notice is that our LBs stunk at coverage today. Raiders had receivers open on the flats and crossing middle all day long, and very often they made big yardage. Keyed on Alexander a lot today, and he was constantly out of position in the middle, was thrown around like a rag doll on a number of plays, was constantly a step or two late and didn’t tackle well today at all.

  94. Pit Says:

    Not Dirk’s fault!

  95. Kevin Says:

The glazers brothers fault. For firing a Super Bowl coach everyone was proud of and ran a respectable team. So what if he cursed them out. Bring the man back

  96. sho nuff Says:

if you still go to these games…you’re sad

  97. Nole4JabooANDdBucs Says:

Warren…and some of you other realistic fans

You are a breath of fresh air!

Soooo let me see a struggling young team, short of a LOT of key positions. Played a team with 2 ELITE receivers, RB, and Carr had ALL DAY to throw. So let’s blame Jameis …WATCH THE GAME FOLKS…we are missing A LOT of effective pieces…

And we still kept it close, led or tied it. More pieces, more wins!

That’s right trade your 22 year old QB, so he can come back and put a Penn on you!
